New Salem Corn Maze has the "Witches of New Salem" event throughout most of the weekends in October, weather-permitting. They offer 3 night-time activities including: The haunted corn maze, zombie paintball, and a walk through the Witches' Woods. The haunted corn maze was closed due to mud when we went on Halloween night, so my husband and I did the other two activities. It was a very chilly night, but we were happy to see the staff was still festive and excited to take us through the night.
First off: zombie paintball, where you sit with other participants at the back of a trailer which weaves in and out of the farm with various zombie strongholds. The "zombies" come charging at you and you get to shoot at them without getting shot back! Surprisingly fun, even though our fingers were frozen by the end! Would be nice if there were a few more zombies charging at us, perhaps if it was a warmer night.
Next activity was a walk through the Witches' Woods. There are 2 trails here: Wicked and Twisted. Only Wicked was open on Halloween night and that was enough for us! This path led us through various little houses with different themes like "funeral home", "butcher shop", "school house", along with walks through the creepy paths that connected them. This was amazing! My husband and I really enjoyed this with characters coming out of the dark to startle and scare. If you're not into the startle factor, stay away! But for a nice thrill, this was just perfect! Kept you looking around the corner and watching your every step, but kudos to those doing the scaring for keeping in character and being creepy to the max!
Highly recommend! read more
