All Hy-Vees are very spacious with wide aisles, always clean, has everything, and people are genuinely nice! It also holds a special place in my heart, as it was one of my first jobs when I was 16 and also in college. Their company motto- "A Friendly Smile In Every Aisle"- explains it all!

She continues to yell at the associate and the customers about how it's getting too late. I come inside to wait for my tire to get repaired and the manager starts yelling at another associate about how he needs to get doing stuff and he said he's getting on it. Mind you this one was a new hire and wasn't sure of the situation fully. The manager keeps yelling at him until he gets out into the service bay. She then talks negative about the poor kid to the customer she was talking to. The associates were very helpful but the manager was degrading to the staff and customers. The fact that the employees maintain a positive attitude with such disrespect from their manager is astounding and they deserve better. The unprofessional behavior exhibited by this person is unacceptable and she should be terminated because I know this is a daily behavior and it is inexcusable no matter what is going on. To add to it I was charged double for something that said per tire not per hole.

Upon arrival (5 minutes before lunch time) Mike and his associates found a tire that would fit my vehicle, worked into their lunch time to mount it, balance it and got me on my way to make my destination!! Mike and the whole team were great to work with! They didn't see me as "just another customer" but someone in need of a repair, a long way from home and were willing to sacrifice a few minutes of their own time to help a total stranger! I can't say enough good things about the team and how willing they were to jump in and take care of the customer! Mike sets a great example for the team at Newton and it is evident that he takes pride in his work and the work of his Team! Thanks Mike for all you do for all of the travelers who show up at your door with an emergency looking for someone to just take the time to care. The WalMart in Newton is not a very great place to shop. The associates are generally either cold,…read moreor completely rude. The products are generally cheap in quality and don't last long. And the prices honestly aren't all that competitive anymore. It's more cost effective to go to a different retailer in Des Moines. As far as grocery items, mostly their junk food, like candy and chips, is at a very low cost, but their frozen meals, produce and meat prices are high....and their meat and produce are of awful quality as well, and not at all fresh. If you aren't an overly social person and prefer to shop at night, good luck! They often have large sections of the store blocked off for "cleaning." And lastly, their decision to drastically downsize checkers and set up more self-checkouts is likely the most disappointing change I've ever seen a retailer make. It creates a very cold and unpleasant experience, and most of the time if you need help, the manager on duty acts annoyed. I avoid this store as much as possible.

This brings me back to the neighborhood pharmacies on the square that I grew up with. Great place, great people!
