Really enjoyed my time here with one of my girl friends. Thankfully got a $25 Groupon which made it a great deal. The regular price for the lessons, canvas, paint, and apron is $35. Our instructor was very good and gave great tips. We went during school vacation though and most of the room was filled with 8 to 14 year old girls (at least 12 of them) and one particularly large group of young girls that made it hard to follow the instructions because they were quite chatty and loud. I understand it's a social event, especially chatting while painting but I wish they quieted down or whispered during the instructions. I look forward to coming back but hopefully on a night with a more respectful group. Thr chairs were a little uncomfortable but I loved that we could bring food. I took full advantage of it and brought a pasta dish that they allowed me to heat up in their office microwave. Also brought some dessert. It was great! Makes it less expensive night than Paint Nite (which I've also attended). You can't bring a drink in though because they have a liquor license. However my friend brought in her Dunkin Donuts drink and they didn't say anything. Drinks aren't cheap but not crazy overpriced either. They sell beer, wine, and soft drinks. They also sell snacks like chips. They were also very accommodating about changing our reservations last minute. Parking and entrance is on the side of the building and plentiful. There is no entrance on the street facing side. Looking forward to coming back. My husband said "I ACTUALLY like this painting" and had me find a place for it right away, so I'd say the evening at Brush it Off was a success! read more

She was extremely helpful and patient, especially as we did not have a final headcount until ~12 hours in advance! Denise and Morgan both came to the conference center: they brought all of the materials, set everything up, and our group of 30 painters had a fantastic time! We booked this location, actually, for a "paint and sip" birthday party for our 5 year old daughter. We supplied the cake and juice boxes, they supplied the "paint". We found it to be a GREAT idea and the parents who attended with their children loved the concept as well. The kids, due to their age and therefore, level of skill, were able to choose a small ceramic figurine in the back and paint it, which was later dried and glazed for them prior to leaving. They all enjoyed themselves and there was a very good variety of figurines and paint colors to choose from. The kids liked it because they were able to leave the party with something they had painted themselves. I was quite pleased, overall, with the business. They lose one star because the instructor was a half an hour late. We had arranged to show up at 10:30 AM for set-up, with the party to start at 11:00. The instructor arrived and opened the door to us at 11:03. While she was apologetic, I hardly consider that level of tardiness acceptable. There were a few very anxious moments because all of the guests were in the hallway and we stood alongside them with our cake, ice cream, favors, decorations, wondering if anyone was ever going to show to open the studio. It was a little embarrassing and not the best first impression for those people who had never been there before. read more

All I can say is this place is starting to become a habit. I went for my first session at the request of my sister-in-law and had no idea what to expect. Since July, I have been back about ten times. There is no previous experience, or talent for that matter, required. All you have to do is show up. They currently have a frequent "flier" program where you get credit for the painting of the day plus an additional one for new people who come with you. They encourage mommy groups, birthday parties, bachelorette parties etc and have kids paint classes as well. If, you have a group, I recommend booking in advance. New paintings are always being added to the rotation, and they want feedback as to what you would like to paint next. They even created a painting based off of a picture that I took while on vacation. The atmosphere is friendly and the music is always playing. The instructors walk through the classroom to give advice on parts that you might think are particularly tricky. They also encourage you if you are inspired and deviate from the plan. I never leave disappointed and always look forward to the next time. read more

I've been wanting to paint and drink ever since it became a "thing" last year. This place is so cool. Walk in, check in, and then grab an apron and get your paint. Note: put on apron before getting paint. I was the first person in the group to get paint on my sweater. Then, head to the bar where you can get $23 bottles of wine to share (or not share) and $5 beers. They had a good selection of beers including some local IPA's. Painting is SO much fun. Our painting was one of the "harder" ones. It was a coastal scene and was a 4 hour class. I couldn't believe how good everyone's paintings came out!! I love this place. I took my daughter for her birthday with friends a couple years ago and it was great. Then my friend took me last summer and I was hooked. My daughter and I go as something her and I can do together and it's the best. Every month on the Facebook page Denise who is the owner runs some kind of discount. My daughter and I got SEASON PASSES! Great price and we can go as much as we like. The pictures are beautiful and keep changing month after month. Hillary is the best instructor to have. She's sweet and patient and willing to help you out and give ideas. I keep bringing new friends and my family and they all love it as much as I do. My friend and I went there on a Wednesday night to learn we were supposed to register for a class as we were the only two students. Denise, the owner, I believe, accommodated us easily and quickly and acknowledged the wording online is confusing. Hilary from Brush It Off led my daughter's bachelorette party to complete our wine-themed day. We started with a wine-tasting and a lovely dinner, then ended the day with a private painting session held at the Salem Cross Inn. Hilary showed us several different options for decorating our wine-glasses or wine-bottles. The bottles were pre-drilled and Brush It Off provides lights for them to be used for home décor. Hilary was patient with us and offered to take pictures several times to help us capture the special night. Our glasses and bottles all were very pretty and everyone had fun painting together. Making arrangements for the party with Denise was simple. She walked me through the timeline for the day and was more than accommodating with our every request. We had such a memorable night. Attended a bachelorette party at this location and can absolutely say: YES! (to the canvas). I'd mark this down as a "pricey" evening. The fee for the canvas, paint (and necessary smock), and instruction is $35. If you want to do as the sign says and "Sip", then you're looking at another bill entirely. Beer, wine, and some bottle mixed drinks (Mike's Hard Lemonade / Twisted Tea) are available for purchase as no outside beverages are allowed (due to MA State Law: no outside beverages permitted in places which have a liquor license). Wine is sold by the glass or by the bottle, and I can confirm that the Twisted Tea that I invested in was $5.75". With canvas (16"x20") in-easel, we set to it! Our instructor (Andrea) was fantastic! She lead us step-by-step through the "Cherry Tree/Blossom" painting with encouraging suggestions and feedback (I had my own approach to it and she was totally supportive of individuality). We were able (and encouraged) to take breaks and chat and move around! Our party brought a huuuge spread of food which was set up over two tables, and I'm pretty sure it's unanimous that it was a great night. Lots of laughs, and lots of great compositions (I actually *liked* my final product!). Brush it Off has several painting options to choose from (classics, cubism, landscape, and even the ridiculous flamingo or beer-theme). While I'm pretty sure you can book same-day, I'd recommend completing your reservation (online! So easy!) ahead of time, especially if there is a certain night/composition you prefer or if you have a large party. Prepare to arrive early (as a courtesy...and also, the space is a little difficult to locate in the building), and don't wear clothes that you don't mind being stained (just in case *wink*). I'd recommend a sheet to put down in your car for the canvas, but it will likely have plenty of time to air-dry while you're enjoying a night out with friends (...and wine). read more

A friend recommended this exciting new adventure. Upon arrival, we were given an assortment of paint brushes to use for the evening and encouraged to find a seat at an easel. We were doubling with another couple so we filled a table in the front of the room. However, we would have been able to see just fine from any seat in the room. We purchased a reasonable $6 glass of wine and socialized for about 30 minutes before class. The instructor was talented and patient as she walked us through painting a sunflower. The 2.5 hour class was a lot of fun. I am not an artist, but was able to create a piece that I can actually hang in my home. My husband also enjoyed the evening as we laughed and joked together. This is just good fun! I have been at night and also in the afternoon and it is always great. I agree with what all the other reviewers have said, except for the 'pricey' part. We were there for close to three hours, bought a bottle of wine and felt we got value for our money. Whether you hang your final artwork or hide it in the basement, you'll still have a blast. The owner couldn't be friendlier or more accommodating and the art instructor was clear, concise, patient and friendly. I went specifically for Monet Water Lillies Pond as Brush it Off duplicated an actual photograph that friends took while on vacation in Paris. My husband and I received a gift certificate from our children, so we set off for a date night. Hillary, our instructor, guided us as we completed our paintings, sipping on a glass of wine and snacking on the cheese tray we had brought along for the evening. The studio is very attractive, in the old Mill Building, adorned with colorful paintings, a cool bar area and a great playlist to complete the ambiance. We had low expectations, as we usually paint walls and siding, not artwork. Hillary was so helpful and knowledgable and fun. The night was so relaxing and our completed paintings completely exceeded our expectations. We left Brush It Off knowing we should return and enjoy another date night, which we will look forward to. read more

In addition to led painting classes they also have drop in times which is great for kids and when you're feeling the urge to paint- they have ceramics and bottles to paint as well. An absolutely wonderful experience! I found out about this through Yelp a few hours before a class was scheduled to start, I signed up and paid online with my debit card and when I arrived, I just needed to give my name to sign in. We were given all of the materials that we needed to paint, including the brushes, canvas, and smock - all included for $35 with the 3-hour class, what a deal!! - and there was never any confusion at all about what we needed to do. Instructor was very accessible and you could flag her down if necessary. Although it is advertised as a bar and many bought drinks, I'd recommend taking a painting class even if you don't plan on drinking. (Plus, you could get lucky and witness the start of a bachelorette party on a Saturday evening - innocent viewing was so, so entertaining.) I saw a few mother-teenage daughter pairs in attendance. It was a very social experience, breaks between the painting, a great way to spend a night catching up with a friend! This would be a fantastic first date destination if you're the artsy type (and know enough about your date to know that you could tolerate them for up to 3 hours). read more

This place is amazing! I've been there three times now and I am definitely going back. The classes are very reasonably priced, as are the wine and beer options available. I was worried the first time I went because I am not the least bit artistic and I have never painted in my life- the staff was so friendly and helpful, and the instructor teaches step by step so even beginner painters can create something awesome! When people see my Eiffel Tower painting they always say, "I can't believe that YOU made THAT!" When I had trouble with the background of my painting, several staff members gave me tips and suggestions and it came out wonderful. I'll be going back with friends very soon! read more
