Instead, our family left feeling disregarded and deeply disappointed by the way we were treated. Our experience with Andrew Brunsen was particularly upsetting. There was no genuine warmth, no welcoming greeting, and very little effort to engage with or acknowledge the family during what was an incredibly painful time. His demeanor made family members feel as though we were an inconvenience rather than people who were grieving the loss of someone we loved. What was especially troubling was the difference in how people were treated depending on who was paying for the arrangements. The person responsible for making the payment was treated with courtesy and attention. The other family members did not receive that same level of consideration or respect. That contrast was impossible to overlook and made an already heartbreaking experience even more upsetting. A funeral home should understand that this is not an ordinary customer-service interaction. Families walking through the door are often dealing with shock, grief, and an enormous amount of emotion. We were not looking for special treatment. We were looking for basic compassion, patience, and human decency. Instead, our family experienced an interaction that felt transactional and dismissive. There was a striking absence of the compassion and grace that should be fundamental to this profession. I sincerely hope this experience is taken as an opportunity for reflection. Carey Richardson was really helpful, communicating well via both phone (promptly calling me back) and by email (sending me services, prices, maps of the cemetery with the locations of various options).
