So we were excited when Bee Bowl'd agreed to attend our fundraiser! Well, 48 hours before the tournament, I called the owner, Danielle, in order to confirm what time she would be there. What followed was a very bizarre phone conversation, where she proceeds to tell me she's been "back and forth" about whether or not she should still come, since there would be 2 other food trucks there. Now you see, Danielle agreed to come to our event on April 17th, and she was also well aware that Kona ice and Carl's gourmet Hots would be there. Clearly, Açaí bowls are not in direct competition with shaved ice or hot dogs/sandwiches. We had especially wanted her açaí bowl truck because volleyball players LOVE acai bowls, which I tried hard to convey that to her while she was telling me she isn't coming. Unfortunately, she did not care one bit that even though she had committed to come to this event (which we were also promised 10% donation from each food truck as this was a fundraiser for us). She then asked me "we'll have you ever even eaten at my shop?" Ma'am what? Completely irrelevant as to why you're literally cancelling less than 48hrs before our event. Which by the way, I have no idea whether she was even planning to call or if she just wasn't going to show up? MANY players and parents were upset that the acai bowl truck was not in attendance, as it was advertised starting back in April when she committed. People were actually looking forward to this healthier option, and were very disappointed. Danielle had no reason to cancel, gave no actual reason other than "not wanting to compete with/take business away from" the other 2 food trucks. Well, even the other 2 food trucks thought it was ridiculous that she would cancel, especially so last minute. I'm left with an awful taste in my mouth from this experience with Danielle at Bee Bowl'd. Definitely think twice about supporting her "small local business" that clearly doesn't care about the commitments they make or disappointing hundreds of people from our community at our non-profit event Saturday! Not a good look, Danielle.

It can be pretty crowded and busy during peak hours (especially weekend mornings), but service is quick and they don't skimp on drink quality. Some of the pastries on display looked a little old and the prices were a little high. My latte was more milk-heavy than I expected and the shot pulled wasn't very strong. Not really a study spot, but great for grab-and-go. A few small tables in and outdoors plus a few stools are available for patrons.

First, despite my experience I spent $70 because I wanted the product, but not sure that I will return. When I entered the clerk was on the phone and continued on the phone while I shopped. When I was finished and standing at the counter ready to check out she remained on the phone. I found this to be totally disrespectful, so I said that I would return later. She then told the person on the phone that she had to go because she had a customer. She said that was the owner and it is hard to get in touch with her. I said that I am sure that the owner would not like you to miss a sale. As she was answering my questions a delivery person walked in and again she dismisses me to speak and hug the delivery man who was delivering honey. I felt totally dismissed and not valued. I end by saying that I am a 70 y/o, African American female. I did not look homeless or dirty. So, African Americans beware when shopping at the Edgewater location.

I had visited the store several times before and always felt comfortable. I had never encountered any issues with the employees or other customers until today. When I walked into the store, I saw three white people: the employee and two customers. The employee asked me, "What is it that you need? What can I get you"?, in such a nasty tone. I replied, "Please finish helping these people while I look around". The next thing I hear is: "I am going to call the police on you". I was shocked. Wait, what just happened? I am upset but calm. I will wait for them and I did. The next thing I hear is: "I am calling Cindy on you". I am confused and upset but calm. Who in the world is Cindy, lol... I turn around and she is trying to hand me the phone stating that Cindy wanted to speak with me. I am going to upload the video if the sites allow me to. I do not take the call. I am not running; I am still waiting for the police. I look up and there is the couple and they have me surrounded. The woman tells me to leave the store because Black people are usually the problem. I am calm, but I inform her to walk away from me or we are going to have a problem, she did but, not without making a racist statement as she was walking away - these niggers..... Black people will ask, why didn't you just leave, NO? Instead, I calmed the situation made my purchase, and then left. I sat outside for about 20 minutes waiting for the police, but they never showed. The employee has an issue with Black people and should not be working in a customer service role because she is a racist who is afraid of ALL Black people. I could have been murdered. During my drive, I decided to speak with Cindy about the situation. However, she dismissed my concerns, laughed it off, and made excuses for the employee's behavior. I hung up feeling that I could have been murdered--not because I was causing a scene or acting irrationally, but because the employee is uncomfortable serving Black customers. Is this still happening in 2024? This is not a safe place to shop for Black and Brown women.
