Bylers is that good ol country store. The deli is pretty decent. I get lunch meat, pork ribs, mild Italian sausage, jumbo hot dogs, bacon bits and pieces and pre peeled eggs. It has all been pretty good. Several things I think could use improvement. The fresh bread is not so fresh. I like pumpernickel but it seems the sell by date is always the following day. I have bought it several times anyway only to find mold on it two days later. In addition, I stumbled across shrimp with spiral noodle frozen meals which I absolutely loved but they do not carry it anymore. When I asked one of the workers they said they sell whatever is shipped to them, that they have no control over what they offer. They have not had that since. I wish they were open on Sundays because that's when I do most of my grocery shopping. Lastly, the cashiers always seem so miserable! read more

Don't let this discourage buying. On a recent trip, I purchased several expired items with confidence and they tasted just fine. Super friendly staff and very clean and organized store. We went to the Byler's in Dover and thought we would check this one out as well. It's a little bit smaller than the Dover location and it doesn't have all of the Home Furnishings but it's still a cute little store. The store is busy for good reason. There are a lot of things to get. I was just passing through in search of soda pop and candy. Huge selection of candy. I was amazed. Great store with lots of goodies. Has an in-house sandwich shop as well as an ice-cream parlor near the entrance. I recommend trying their peach cobbler ice cream and hot, fresh cinnamon rolls. read more

Bargains galore! Lots of interesting things to shop for here. They have many items in bulk, a lot of local offerings, some discontinued or out of season items, and a very impressive selection of candies, baking goods, and spices. The sandwiches are PACKED, and the classic Italian sub was terrifically filling and flavorful. We ordered some meats from the deli, too. Looking forward to trying the sausage and super thick cut bacon! Definitely shopping here again next time we're in town. read more

Bylers has the best selection of baking supplies, candy making supplies, dried herbs and spices, grains, nuts, different types of flour, noodles, and dried at a reasonable price. They buy in bulk and repackage and sell per ounce. I feel so lucky to live nearby this gem. They also have a variety of candies and canned goods reasonably priced as well. I am in DE for a 4-day horse training clinic. I stopped in here during the lunch break to grab some snacks. Pros: I thought the bulk foods methods were REALLY awesome! I wish e had something like that in Boston. Cons: There were no humanely raised meats (grass-fed, pasture-raised, etc.), but I'm finding that true with all grocery stores I go to here. The cashier was obscenely rude. I said "Hi, how are you?" with a smile on my face. In response, she looked at me and shook her head, then proceeded to get annoyed with me for asking for one of the bags of candy to be left out. I was a cashier all throughout college and I know how much it sucks, so I always try to be curious and offer a smile to make things easier. I have NEVER had a response like this. read more

The ice cream sales area is located in the front of the store, immediately inside the front entrance to the store. . At "6:53 p.m." on "Wednesday, 6/6/2018," the parking lot security staff person (a male, attired in a flourescent yellow- colored safety vest), denied me entry into the store to purchase ice cream from the ice cream vendor stand which is situated just inside of the front door entrance of the store (where ONLY ice cream is sold, and paid for SEPARATELY, at the exact same spot). Although my Husband and I are reside in Harrington, as a direct result of this negative experience with the staff person whom I encountered on today, I will henceforth ONLY patronize the Dover, DE location of Byler's, if I even bother to spend my money with them at all. Employees of any business establishment should always bd mindful that they represent their company. In addition, the tone and body language that they present to the public, their patrons, must always be professional and appropriate. Love going and finding some of the best deals on food! I can make the money I spent go a long way compared to places such as Walmart, Food Lion, etc. My 4 year old favors the candy section the most. My husband tends to buy stuff from the bakery section the most. I personally love the soups, salads and SUBS!! Best subs around in my opinion. I also love finding new items I'd never think to try. The only downfall is they don't keep the same foods stocked all year round. There's something different every time I go. If I like something, I tend to go back as soon as possible to get more because of this. I have also heard many a great things about their homemade ice cream. I have yet to personally try it as I always seem to find another dessert in the store to have but one day soon, I plan to. read more
