Being a past gymnast myself, it was nice to see good equipment and teachers letting little kids use it (carefully). They also have a toddler section where little ones spent most of their time. My son loved it there, however was at times he would get bored because some little kids who didn't want to participate were essentially wasting other kids time/turns. It wasn't the kids fault by any means, the teachers just didn't handle tantrums and bad attitude very well. Instead of letting those who don't want to participate sit out, they spend more individual one-on-one time with that kid, while other just waited their turn. Which was not fair to the other kids who were ready go and their thing. Thankfully this didn't happen too often. But when it did, it was very annoying to see. Another major gripe I have with flips is the location of their changing area. It's located right next to the main lobby, with doors that open directly to the outside. The dressing space is pretty tiny, and when one group finishes class and goes to change while the next group arrives to change for their class, there is literally no place to stand. And then, little kids have to walk by the exit doors in order to get to the gym area, which is always in use because people leave and enter all the time. So when it's winter time and freezing temps, barefoot and leotard clad little kids are very cold having to walk by the open doors and then stand in the lobby (10 feet away) waiting for their teacher to come get them for their class! Aside from these two negatives (for me), it's really a very accommodating and fun place for little kids to develop their physical abilities.

The members I've met are so kind and hospitable. They feed us well (during bonspiels), the bar staff is great, and the ice is top notch! My husband played in one of the open bonspiels last year and had a great time as well. As someone who plays on arena ice I am so envious of what a great facility they have. The viewing area accommodates a lot of people, the tables are spaced out enough that it doesn't feel too cramped, there always seems to be napping happening over by the fireplace, and the little museum room has a lot of fun history of curling. Wonderful club, wonderful people, wonderful ice! I love this club!!

And this last time (2018), was a banner year, with the US Men's Team winning gold for the first time ever. Woo hoo! But curling has been a great sport for a long, long time. And the Chicago Curling Club has been a big part of that here in the mid-west for like 150 years or so. Let's talk about why. Well, first, the CCC is a great group of folks. The mid-west is renowned for being friendly and polite, right? Well, the folks at the CCC are that times 2. Super friendly and ready, willing and able to not only teach you about the sport of curling, but just as happy to talk about whatever else is on your mind, all while buying you a beer. Seriously, I have yet to find a nicer bunch of folks anywhere in the country. Then, there is curling itself. Yeah, there are some competitive folks (hell, you can;t go to the olympics, much less win, without being competitive, right?). But there are a TON of leagues at the club that are purely for fun. Rookies, pick-up and other leagues that even the newest of newbies can join and have fun at. Add to all of that the social aspect. Multiple FREE events throughout the year, just for socializing and community. This is the kind of place that literally anyone can feel at home. Finally there is the sport of curling itself. Look, I like to veg out as much as the next guy. But this is damn near the only sport I could play, for fun or competitively, where I can literally have a beer while I play. Bad knees? No problem. Need hyper cardio? Got ya covered. Just want to play for fun and socialize? Check. Want to belong to a group that has fun and contributes to the community? You could do way worse! The CCC is a great group of folks, with a great facility, and perpetuating a great sport, all while contributing to the community at large. Swing by, have a beer, and learn to curl. I guarantee you'll have a great time, and you just might change your life.

She's been playing tennis for years but can't do tennis camp at our club this summer because they're still closed. She joined a tennis camp at Racquet Club of Lake Bluff but got kicked out after one day. I've known the pro there for years and I reached out to give him a heads' up about my daughter. Anyone who knows her knows how amazing she's doing, how much she tries to please people and act typically. I watched her in her tennis camp the other day and was so proud and impressed with her play and behavior - nonstop tennis for 90 minutes and she completely went with the flow. The pro called me the next day telling me she was no longer welcome at the camp. I called the manager who confirmed that she "talks too much" and needs directions repeated (ex. don't touch the ball now because of Covid, push the balls towards the net, not the fence). He was inconvenienced by her being different and, rather than call me to ask for tips on how to address to chattiness, he kicked her out. The club manager supported this decision. I pulled my son out of the camp there even though he was really enjoying it because I can't support a business that discriminates and that teaches kids that it's ok to be intolerant of people who are different and that there is no room for them in our society..

Miss Kristen is a professional, being a mother herself is very nurturing and kind. The vibes there are very calm, peaceful, and bright. The classes are carefully curated. The special events are well thought out, creative, and timely. For example, we went to a Peter Play Date for Easter, there was a Daddy-Daughter dance for Father's Day weekend, and we will go to a Baby Olympics in July. I am thankful there is a place in town that gives my child wonderful and unique experiences. Highly recommend this place if you want to aide in your baby-toddler's development through creative play.

FSA = a well organized frat party for little kids... My son…read moreabsolutely loves his schoolyard sports class he takes at Joy of the Game (they teach at a few different locations). He's in good company because I don't know any kid or parent who doesn't love FSA. And what's not to love? The coaches are high energy, friendly & have the ability to keep the attention of dozens of pre-schoolers at once. I don't know what happens at half the classes my kids attend due to lack of communication from the teachers, but FSA does an amazing job communicating via email with us. We receive weekly updates, they post a ton of cute pics and my son loves their monthly challenges. The February challenge was to take a picture of your kids eating veggies and they'll give them a piece of candy. My son was almost as excited to eat his veggies at dinner that night as he is to go to FSA every week. Between the emails I get from FSA and the limited info I get from my pre-schooler it seems like they are introduced to many different sports, but most of their time there is spent playing game after game (including a lot of different versions of dodgeball). While dodgeball may be my worst nightmare, throwing balls at each other is a dream for these little boys (or even the few girls who sign up for their classes). My son comes out of FSA with a huge smile on his face and always sleeps well that night...so that's really all that counts! The schoolyard sports class consists of the youngest kids, but they have sports leagues (flag football, basketball& baseball) as the kids get a little older. They also have a summer camp that is extremely popular among the elementary aged school kids And their bday parties are also always a good time. Basically FSA is "strong" when it comes to everything they do and I know my son is in good hands with them!
