I love this club so much! I don't live in the Chicago area anymore, but have travelled here the last two years for their women's bonspiel, and am blown away by how amazing this club is! The members I've met are so kind and hospitable. They feed us well (during bonspiels), the bar staff is great, and the ice is top notch! My husband played in one of the open bonspiels last year and had a great time as well. As someone who plays on arena ice I am so envious of what a great facility they have. The viewing area accommodates a lot of people, the tables are spaced out enough that it doesn't feel too cramped, there always seems to be napping happening over by the fireplace, and the little museum room has a lot of fun history of curling. Okay, let's talk seriously. Curling is a sport that most people watch every 4 years, during the Olympics. And this last time (2018), was a banner year, with the US Men's Team winning gold for the first time ever. Woo hoo! But curling has been a great sport for a long, long time. And the Chicago Curling Club has been a big part of that here in the mid-west for like 150 years or so. Let's talk about why. Well, first, the CCC is a great group of folks. The mid-west is renowned for being friendly and polite, right? Well, the folks at the CCC are that times 2. Super friendly and ready, willing and able to not only teach you about the sport of curling, but just as happy to talk about whatever else is on your mind, all while buying you a beer. Seriously, I have yet to find a nicer bunch of folks anywhere in the country. Then, there is curling itself. Yeah, there are some competitive folks (hell, you can;t go to the olympics, much less win, without being competitive, right?). But there are a TON of leagues at the club that are purely for fun. Rookies, pick-up and other leagues that even the newest of newbies can join and have fun at. Add to all of that the social aspect. Multiple FREE events throughout the year, just for socializing and community. This is the kind of place that literally anyone can feel at home. Finally there is the sport of curling itself. Look, I like to veg out as much as the next guy. But this is damn near the only sport I could play, for fun or competitively, where I can literally have a beer while I play. Bad knees? No problem. Need hyper cardio? Got ya covered. Just want to play for fun and socialize? Check. Want to belong to a group that has fun and contributes to the community? You could do way worse! The CCC is a great group of folks, with a great facility, and perpetuating a great sport, all while contributing to the community at large. Swing by, have a beer, and learn to curl. For my birthday the fiancee signed us up for a Learn2Curl class at the CCC. Watching the Winter Olympics together and me explaining curling is one of her first memories of me, so it was kind of a quirky surprise when I found out what she had planned. At first I was a little apprehensive, but it turned out to be a super fun time. Also, we were both really sore the day after. The class is about two and a half hours long, in which you learn the history of curling, proper form, how to keep score, and you play part of a game. At the end there's a pizza party with beer, which even my fiancee didn't know she signed us up for. Who doesn't love pizza parties? Then they give a rundown of the history of the CCC and how to sign up to be a member. It was a great time, and the volunteer instructors are engaging and knowledgeable. Everyone there has a story, whether it's drinking with Olympians or how they're still learning after 42 years of curling. Just a pro-tip: have some Advil on hand afterwards. Sweeping is more strenuous than it looks, and hitting the ice is...well, about as painful as you'd expect. If we lived closer we'd definitely consider a membership (and you can apply the cost of your class to the membership cost), but as a one-time deal a class here is a great introduction. read more

Although I have not played here as of yet nor am I member, I went to check this place out for a field trip for my daughter. Given she is a in wheelchair I typically check out places ahead of time to see how they can accommodate her. Let me tell u that I met with Tom who is the club manager and he couldn't be nicer or more accommodating so my daughter could participate with her peers. He's willing to offer lighter weight stones to slide across the ice along with an extended stick so I help her push it. He's also allowing me to bring her wheelchair/walker onto the ice so she can be with her friends stand independently and have fun. This may potentially move to a five star review as I'll be attending the function as her aide to assist with her needs. Although there is a handicapped ramp to access the building, once inside there r two steps to get down the ice. The building is a little dated and the parking lot is all stones. You wear just plain gym shoes to play but it has be an extra pair u bring with you as u can't walk in the lot & wear those same shoes on the ice. This place is adorable! Came here for a corporate team event and had no idea what to expect. As soon as I walked in, I felt like I was transported to a cozy ski lodge. They also have a bar - could see this as a fun locals night hangout. Our team had a great time learning and competing. The instructors were so friendly, patient, and fun too. Yup, curling. Chucking big hunks of stone down a slab of ice towards a bullseye. Similar to bocce or shuffleboard, only colder. This is a private club, so you can't just show up and curl (unfortunately). However, they do offer "Learn to Curl" sessions for $10. Since the last Winter Olympics, it seems they're getting more popular and the learner sessions fill up quick. I've only been here once for a Bonspiel event that was open to the public. People were friendly (gave us free beer) but since all the club members know each other, we felt a little like we were intruding. I'm giving it 5-stars because there's nothing else to compare it to and thought the facility was great. read more

I'm a member and I love it! I am one of the youngest members of the club, but everyone makes me feel so welcome and is really enthusiastic about young people joining the club. They set up new members with mentors to show them the ropes and get them acquainted with the sport. If you are interested in learning how to curl - the sessions are $30 (I think) and will start again when the club opens for the season (It is closed April - September.) read more

Bought 2 Learn2Curl one for my dad (his 61st bday and one for me). I must say this place is AWESOME!!! If you are unsure if you think you can do it.....DON'T be! The instructors make you feel comfortable and assure you the whole time, they don't act snobby or pushy or make you feel like an idiot. Mind you curling is not easy and the pros make it look so simple. It's hard and all the positive assurance you can get is great. It is a good time especially if you are a fan of the sport. Chris was great and really welcoming and nice to my mom (who sat out because she has knee replacements and a bad back) the whole place is warm and welcoming. Again if you think about curling or watch it please please please do a Learn2Curl class and you will be hooked. read more

I went to this place about three years back, bringing with me a group of friends who have either never heard of curling, or saw it on TV but never thought of trying it. It was once of their free public session. We have fun. Unfortunately it's too far from where I live and I really can't justify becoming a member. It's a great game to play, and a challenging sport that requires team works. Introduced to me when I was studying in Rochester, NY where the Friendship Council would bring students to the local curling cup every so often. I think the people we met at CCC are very friendly, and willing to teach. All of my friends enjoyed it very much, and a couple even seriously thought of becoming members. read more
