You know you are done when you are done! I've purchased my seafood at New Wave in Stamford, CT for several years and have always found everyone to be very friendly, seafood fresh and the prices very good. In the past year or so they have hired workers that have no retail skills. They don't say hello, thank you, good bye - nothing but the total of your order. I've tolerated this until today! The person waiting on me (brown hair and glasses) was VERY RUDE! I ordered a pound of shrimp, he said shell on or off, I said on. He proceeded to put the shrimp in a plastic container, which they have never done before it was always put in a plastic bag. He weighed the shrimp, and I asked "Do you take into consideration the plastic container"? He said "No". I told him I didn't want to pay for the plastic container, he laughed and said "We have to pay for it", I said "I'd rather have paper, which he totally ignored. He continued his sarcasm by laughing, "WOW"! and finally he said "Holy ......" which I couldn't understand because he was mumbling. I walked out of the store, and will never go back. Too many options for me to shop at. P.S. I wonder if this is a question for the US Department of Weights and Measures?????? read more

I've known about this place for a while and finally decided to come in for myself. I was craving a lobster roll (the traditional warm one on a toasted buttery bun) so I looked it up on yelp. They had a CT Cajun lobster roll available to order online or the cold lobster roll kind. I ordered the Cajun one for pickup with sweet potatoe fries. The lobster roll looked small, especially when next to the huge tin of fries but it was very filling and delicious (and spicey!!). The guy that helped me said they can cook lobsters there for you too as well at no extra charge, and to call a few hours ahead for that. I've gotten scallops/salmon from here and cooked them at home and they always taste fresh. I like this place. Don't forget to bring your own bags! read more

I really want to like this place. We live about 5 minutes away and it would be fantastic to be able to grab dinner on occasion. We walked in last night at 5:45, and the employees said they were closing soon (at 6), so they didn't have any platters available. We went back today, arriving at 5:15, and the employee in charge said he wasn't sure if we could get 4 fish platters made as they were closing soon, and he would have to ask. The fellow in charge of the platters said that he could only make a fried platter, as the grill hadn't been open in several hours since they "had been slow today." We gave up! read more

Brought my dog in, which I wouldn't have done if there was a place to leash her up outside (and, I've brought her in quite a few times before). The owner was incredibly rude to me about it, which is his right, but his approach was very dickhead-ish. I was in line a week ago behind some woman who clearly had no consideration for the other customers. She showed the man up front a picture on her phone and asked him to cut the fish that way. She did not specify sizes so when the man came back out with her fish cut in that same exact way, she got mad at him for not cutting them a certain size. She wanted him to go back and recut them even though he explained there was long line of customers waiting. She did not care and made him go back despite the growing line. Upon coming back, he kindly asked her to call next time she comes in. He said she has done this multiple times and each time she is told to call. I'm writing this review because I saw this woman write a very nasty review that was undeserved. I appreciated how much this man wanted to help the other customers. He even told this woman that the other customers matter and he doesn't like keeping them waiting so next time she needs to call. She then walked away all pissy which wasn't fair. read more

We came here for more fresh, hot food than for stocking our fridge - so we didn't realize it was more of a seafood market, but it certainly satisfied our cravings. The lobster roll was served cold - but we actually enjoyed it this way. The lobster was fresh, meaty and luscious. It was served in a hot dog bun, so we missed that buttery toast. My favorite thing was the sweet potato fries, which were crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. The fries tasted like they were just cut from a fresh yam! We also ordered a cod cake and a crawfish cake which both were delicious! There was a good seafood to breading ratio. read more

I hate to disparage local businesses... and this happened about 2 years ago, so things may have changed. But the one and only time we bought fish at New Wave it had worms in the fillets. I used to work on a fishing vessel in Alaska so I'm familiar with this parasite. You normally find them on the liver of the fish, not in the fillet. As you might imagine, this experience turned us off of New Wave. (It actually turned me off of fish completely for about a year) We informed them of the worms in the fish, but they basically said "oh well" and that was that. I don't think we will ever give them another shot. read more

Hi seafood fans! For fresh fishes I used to go to paganos in Norwalk but we recently moved here and I was so glad to know about this seafood store. Today was my third time here. For making curry I asked him ( the guy with cap - I don't know his name) to cut the fish he didn't cut it completely and I asked him nicely to cut it little more. He started scolding me for not explaining how small I wanted the pieces but I tried and he didn't bother to listen. He was in too much rush. I have never experienced this kind of rude behavior. I asked him to give me little ice for fishes because I had to walk long distance. He did it again he was scolding me and he made me feel like I was not buying fishes I was begging him or what.. I am a fussy fish buyer, and this is THE place for fresh fish in lower Fairfield County! And the best lobster salad anywhere! My 87 year old dad agrees, and he's been a lobster salad fan for a little while! :) Every visit, that lobster salad travels from CT to NJ, and it's so fresh it's still divine the next day and the day after that! Back home I routinely ask for salmon with the skin on (great for grilling), and they always have been happy to retrieve a fish to accommodate me. Salt, pepper and olive oil, and suddenly I'm a gourmet chef! It's all the quality of the fish. More than a year after a taste, a friend from Manhattan asked where she could buy some while here. Everyone raves about it - no exaggeration. (Seal it hot and then cook low and slow, skin side down, to buttery medium rare. Heaven!) Not made on premises, but wonderful (from MA, I think) are the crab or cod cakes and other prepared and frozen foods. Buy a sealed package frozen and enjoy any time! They, too, travel well and often. Real good size clams too. Only knock is that it ate more like a pudding than soup. Also, could have used a tad more seasoning. Fr Oysters: Nice firm FRESH oysters. Wish they had a bit more flavor. I could see or taste no crab whatsoever. Had I known it was not really crab as the sign in the case advertized, I would have gotten the tuna wrap for same price. A tad hefty for tuna but not likely the subject of bait and switch. Have purchased their lobsters in the past and found them tough and unclean, as if they had been in the tanks too long in recirculated waste. I returned only because of location convenient to Camp Avenue Car Wash. If I spend less on fish, I prefer frozen at Trader Joe's or Costco. If I'm paying up, even though Bon Ton in Greenwich is far more expensive, I'd prefer it to be fresh and high quality and not some ersatz hook wantonly exploiting ignorance, indifference and passivity. read more

New Wave Seafood is just amazing,when you come through that door you see an amazing array of fish and other undersea life. I was astonish when I saw the lobster tank it was like wow look how many of them. The guy in the counter told me that the price may be high but the fish is high quality which is acceptable because when I brought some King Salmon and some tuna home It was just fantastic like if the fish was made from gems. I go here for my seafood purchases because it's convenient, but I have to say I'm not really impressed with the selection. The place is HUGE, but they only have two cases with fish, one with shellfish and one with prepared foods, plus some whole fish in limited quantities. Maybe I'm missing something?? The quality of the fish is fine, don't get me wrong, but the selection is a bit underwhelming when you compare it to The Lobster Place or something like that. I also wasn't enthused that they wouldn't fillet my whole fish. Maybe I've been spoiled by other establishments like The Lobster Place in the city, but I think it should be a basic service of a seafood shop to prepare fish if requested - goodness knows I have no friggin' idea how to do it! read more
