Love everything about this place! in the summertime it's got that great nostalgia old style ocean side area feel to it. You get good food without a stuffy environment. I go there specifically for their fried clams. And, usually end up taking home some salmon and cooked fish out of their market side of the place. After a Yelp search for nearby lunch spots, I treated myself to some fried shrimp and onion rings. The shrimp were so big I wish I'd only ordered 6, but they were delicious. I was actually looking for the WORST Reviewed Seafood Restaurant, all to see if things would be the same upon my arrival and I had to remember that most Seafood Restaurants are closed for the Season (aside from the spots away from water) that have their seafood shipped in and sitting forever. I probably passed Uberti's MANY TIMES over for I once lived in Stratford and I even recall when this location was some other Fish Market that I avoided as a kid and a young adult growing up for it always looked a bit run down and tired but today I learned a very tasty lesson. Your Fisherman's Platter, that had a piece of COD that was larger than most to hit my plate from other locations talked back to me when I took a bite. It said, "Fool, what took you so long?" and I had to apologize to the Cod. I allowed poor judgement on my own behalf to hold me back like an after school fight where everyone else knows what is going to happen but you and your friend tries to stop you. The Cod was all too tender and literally fell apart when I picked it up as if it had somewhere to be, besides in my mouth. Cod, where are you going baby?? COME ON HOME TO BIG DADDY!!! Then I grabbed up the fried shrimp and again, the frying technique must be a quick blanch in fresh oil because you do not taste the grease and it was not over cooked. Light and crisp with a clean and respectable snap on the bite; again very fresh!! The scallops also tried to escape when I picked it up. Just as I started biting into the scallop, it took its own fried coating off and slid into my mouth. I never experienced a transition on scallop so damn smooth and it was delightful to my tastebuds. A breath of FRESH FISH AIR that came dressed to impress but chose to be naked instead and I loved it. Even the Lobster Roll on that lightly toasted buttered roll was impressive. Filled with lobster meat and not the type of meat that tastes as if it came from a can but more as if they just caught the lobster and filled my bun up with the best type of bite any lobster could possibly muster. I am beyond fascinated with the output of fresh fish you all put out, even when we are clearly out of the season. It is as if, you do not stop at researching the best of the best to ensure your market has it ALL and in full supply to fulfill the needs of the Seafood loving community. Everything was so good that I literally forgot to eat my stuffed clams and New England clam chowder but I am coming back MULTIPLE TIMES OVER AND SOON to keep chopping away at your entire menu and I will bring guests with me. Lobster roll is basically just lobster with a little seasoning-delicious, especially with some clarified butter from a lb of steamers that we ordered from the fish market side. Man, this place is great. I love Umberti's. They are the real deal. I am here quite often. Went just today with two people and we got the works..Fish-N-Chips, Whole Belly Clams. And because this is also a fish market, you can buy lots of yummy stuff to cook at home. Crab cakes, Scallops, chowder, Stuffed Clams, Lobster..just..it's all here. AAnd for some reason I had thought they closed in October BUT NO! They are opened all year round. Seafood is a problem in this area as there are not man y options. We ordered a soft shell crab sandwich, fried scallops, and fish and chips. Great french fries and root-beer float. From the other side we had fresh shucked oysters. So delicious we ended up with 2 dozen of those babies! We brought home (4) 1and1/4 lbs live lobsters for dinner and the most luscious Lobster bisque. I am a fan of thick bisque. This one is superb! Came here after the beach and was craving some seafood. Uberti's is a small seafood spot on the side of the highway. Looks like a lot of people order and go. They do have some indoor and outdoor seating if you choose to stay. There's the fish market part and the food ordering part is outside in a separate location. I saw a couple of reviews saying customer service here is lacking and I agree it's not amazing. But given that the seafood is fresh everyday it seems like all the employees here have been working super early and are exhausted by dinner time. I got the fish and chips (fries were swapped for onion rings), clam chowder, and a crab cake. Everything was perfectly deep fried and crispy!! Whatever you order you need to eat asap while it's still fresh and crispy. I think this was some of the freshest seafood I've ever had! I grew up in Milford CT and I buy my fish from Uberts This time I was very dissatisfied I love softshell crab season, and I purchased softshell crabs from their fish I went there four times in two weeks Three times I was satisfied all softshell crab were the same size and you pay quite a bit of money. It's cheaper to buy lobster Big Y go to Bird to buy Shell crab. The last time I went to Uberts's, they really chipped me I always trusted them. I never looked at the package before it was closed and I paid for it. I find them untrustworthy at this time. There will no longer there. Stiles in Westport is more responsible to their customers and honest I called the store. I left my name and my phone number. The manager never returned my call. I'm back in Florida and I must say growing up there in Milford CT and still returning at age of 62 years old My grandfather, my father and I used to go there for lunch on Wednesday for fish fry. I've been coming here since I moved to Stratford 5 years ago. My girlfriend and I went today on Good Friday and placed an order that was supposed to be ready in 15-20 minutes. An hour later we get our food and go home to eat. We then realized that half our order was missing. We called and called and no one answers. I head back over there and proceed to the front of the line and told the cashier. She looks up the ticket and says that it will be ANOTHER hour to get my order. I asked to speak to a manager and someone from the kitchen yelled just refund him. I stood firm and said I would like to speak to a manager. He comes out with the ticket and calls me a liar since everything that was put into the bag was notated on the ticket. I told him to refund my whole order (reasonable request or not) because half the food was going to be soggy and disgusting. They did not take the opportunity to take this unpleasant experience and turn it into a positive one for a patron. There are many things they could have done to affect the outcome and not lose a customer or potential customers through my recommendations. They could have refrained from implying that I was lying and therefore stealing. They could have apologized and redid that part of the order without attempting to make me wait another hour. They could have redid the entire order as it's Fried food that needs to be eaten in timely manner. (Would be nice but necessary) They could have done anything except for what they did and it would have been a better outcome. I understand that today was a busy day and I get it. What isn't acceptable is blaming me for holding up other customer orders and bringing your kitchen to a halt. Today this business chose not to do the right thing. read more

This was my first time at Urberti's, and it really held up to my friends' rave reviews. We bought fresh salmon and tuna for a truly memorable hand-roll sushi dinner for four. The young woman who helped us with the succulent pieces of fish was up-beat and confident, adding to the anticipation of the fabulous evening to come. The decore is truly classic "fish market" with crab baskets, colorful signs, and fish of various types all displayed in the refrigerated case. Next time, I'd like to try their raw oysters, which my friends assure me is every bit as delicious as any in the fancy restaurants in NYC! Mom and I decided to try Uberti's again...and I wish we hadn't. Firstly there's a sign up saying that cause of rising fish prices and cooking oil prices everything's gone up 30%. Yes, I think that's steep too!!!!! We had 2....two for Tuesdays....that's two pieces of fish and chips. Both orders were over-fried and extremely oily. When you go to bite into the fish it's all batter. It's like well under an inch of fish....more like 1/2 a centimeter. I ordered a crab cake which was way way over-fried and couldn't taste one bit of crab in it. The stuffed clam I ordered didn't taste fresh and had an over amount of lemon on it. I also know to not order any of their fountain sodas here. Why? No matter what you spend they will not give you a free refill. The time before this we spent well over $50 dollars. My mom wanted a cup of coffee and the owner wouldn't make her any. When I asked for it he looked at the coffee maker and said.....sorry it's not made. On the last two trips, I've brought several cans of soda as my beverage and my Mom had some too. So....lastly....this was our last time at Uberti's. If you are interested you can have overpriced food, greasy food, hardly any fish inside the batter of the fish and chips, no free refills of fountain soda, and no coffee. If you are interested have at it...WE ARE NOT!!!!!!!!! P.S. I forgot to mention the fish and chips were so greasy I was up all night after eating it....with a bad stomach and vomiting.
