New York Mart on Sunset Strip is a large grocery store. The inside looks clean, and there are many products to choose from, including dry goods, canned food, sauces, and many Asian ingredients. They also have fresh vegetables, pork, chicken, and seafood like shrimp and fish. The prices are a little expensive overall, but I understand that many items are imported. I do not expect too much from the service, but one thing that should be improved is communication. Many staff members do not speak English well. I absolutely love New York Mart! It's a great international grocery store off of Sunset and has all of the ingredients, snacks and treats you could ever want. The store itself is quite large and offers a variety of packaged and fresh items. They even have a large selection of fresh seafood. With it being so large the aisles can feel a little cramped but I think it is a welcome consequence for the amount of variety here. All of the service workers are quite nice and rather efficient, the lines move relatively fast. My favorite part about this place is that I am always able to find something unique here to try and for usually reasonable prices. LIVE FROGS HERE... A traditional Asain market with questionable live delicacies which include live frogs and eels ready for chopping by the butcher for customer consumption. Most of the inventory are so unique that I have never heard of. The aisles are in perfect order and staff was eager to assist with limited English. We bought their watermelon on 5/16. It was frozen and defrosted. Not edible! We bought raw chestnuts from there in November and they were all rotten after we roasted them - they were from last season. Fruit like lychee and exotic ones were all bad and we paid too much. Meat and fish are acceptable if you can tell freshness. No ambience and bearly average service. read more

There's a sign at the door that pictures are not allowed! It has a nice seafood department with live lobsters for $11.99/lb. They didn't have any Kit Kat. That's part of why we came here. They did have several types of pomelo though - green, honey (2 types) & another kind. They have ginger root for $1.49 per pound but the spicy ramen is $2 per pack or $7.99 for a pack of 4!! Definitely shop around! Got a spicy chicken and cheese buldak for my nephew and some candy for my niece. I've never bought Buldak so I couldn't compare the price. Bought some basil that wasn't labeled so I hope it's basil. Also bought a couple cucumbers, Hass avocados, tangerines, and imitation crab sticks. Bring a jacket or a sweater because inside the store is cold. The market is in the same shopping center as Ten Ten Seafood restaurant so you can eat dim sum and then go shop. read more

Make sure to check your product before buying as it might be expired. They say no returns on the receipt, but I was thankfully given a refund for a snack product that had an expiration of March 2025!! They had a nice selection of steamed buns that looked yum as well. Besides the expired food product incident, I maybe would come back for the frozen buns. read more

The prices were good, especially on sale or promo items. Pricing for some items was a challenge to find, and aisles were just a bit tight. The environment felt like a genuine Asian market you might have to go to China Town for in most cities. I loved the selection but not so much some of the employees. Side note: I had some more photos to share of specifically the seafood area, which my father in law and I were impressed by, but an employee in a green vest came over and singled me out for taking photos and asked me to delete them (which I did), citing that her boss does not allow that. I will point out that there were others taking photos as well, but only I was approached. This is an "impressive" Chinatown market that makes you feel like you're not in Florida any longer. It has a huge fresh fish and vegetables section. As we were walking in, the monger was dispatching a fresh fish for a customer. Not for the squeamish. My husband called me over to show me the huge (and I mean huge) oysters. I looked down and saw live frogs in an area right below them. Eek!! Avoiding those, I saw all the many types of fish available... And vegetables... if you can think of it, they have. Plus if you're non- Asian, they have many types of fruits and vegetables you definitely won't see in Publix. And may not know what they are... There are narrow aisles of spices, packaged goods, dried items, noodles, teas, candies, cakes, nuts, etc etc. And don't forget all the frozen prepared products. There's an area with household goods, kitchenware, and cleaning supplies, even. They didn't have the almond cookies I was looking for, but we did get a couple other things. And it was fun browsing. If you're in the area, you should stop by. It's a trip -- no passport needed. read more

Large Asian market located in Sunrise in the Nob Hill Place shopping center. It's part of the Queens, NY based New York Mart Asian grocery stores. The place is your typical Asian market, if you have been to others in the past...they have their produce section with American staples like carrots, potatoes and onions that also carries Asian favorites like bitter melons, Chinese eggplant, Chinese cabbage, Chinese broccoli, etc. Here you will also find the seafood area that sells many live items like frogs, fish, oysters, lobsters, etc. For those less adventurous, they have many items in their frozen section, so you can take home something that already has been cleaned and packaged. I went to get some sauces and their selection was really good...got some Hoisin sauce, some Garlic chili paste, some sesame oil and some oyster sauce....all of which I use frequently in the kitchen. Their prices were comparable to other stores in the area, but one thing that I liked was that most sauces had expiration dates about 2-3 years out....some Asian stores around have items that have expiration dates only 6-9 months out.... For those looking for noodles, rice, cookies, snacks and kitchen ware, they also have a good selection of all of those...Overall a very complete market. The smell inside the store is very pungent, again, if you are used to it, no problem. My husband had to step outside because of how strong the smells were. This place is awesome. It's an authentic Asian market tucked into the corner of a strip mall. And they have everything from live frogs to rice cookers. If you're making an Asian recipe and you need a particular ingredient, this is the place to go. For those of you who are not familiar with Asian culture, the smell is not what you would expect. As I said, they have live frogs. They also have a large seafood department and the fish is fresh, and not wrapped, like you would see in an American supermarket. In short, there is an odor to the place that might take some getting used to. If it's too strong, turn left and head to the other side of the store. The smell isn't as strong there. Then work your way to the east side. There are people there who can help you, if you can't find what you're looking for or you aren't sure about an item. Just ask. read more

I love coming here there is such an amazing variety of fresh vegetables! I think the main reason I come here is for bok choi and leeks freshest out of anywhere! But I've discovered the Chinese cabbage, not Napa although they have Napa that's fresh & green not yellow like Publix. Wow! Great variety of Asian food and products. Wonderful prices and variety of kitchen ware also. We were able to pick a bamboo steamer that was the perfect size for us. They had at least 4 different sizes. My daughter is begging for a tea set. All I can say is that no, you do not need to order your ramen bowls, spoons, tea set from Amazon. Get them here. I'd be here every day if I had one in my city! If you don't know, I'm obsessed with Chinese food and culture. My brother and sister-in-law live in Guangzhou, and that only made me feel more connected to it and increase my desire to explore it deeper. So every time we're together, I make a big deal about cooking Chinese food with my sister-in-law. Her family is from a smaller city in the Hunan province, and I love her family recipes. She says she's a bad cook, but to me, it's all delicious, and more about the experience of sharing that time with her. This market is around the corner from the house, and to me, feels like walking into a bustling market in Chinatown. There's a beautiful seafood counter complete with several live offerings like eel and frog, a big Butcher's case where I often discover new cuts (like beef heel aka calf muscle - pun intended) and a huge produce area with all sorts of greens, fruits and veg! Produce might be my favorite because there are so many new to me varieties, and on this last visit I discovered the discount section where lightly bruised or older veg gets stashed! You can find some incredible deals there on stuff you need to cook within a day. Be sure not to miss the bbq cart too! They have house made cha siu (red roast pork) and crispy whole roasted pig! Freaking delicious! New York Mart is a winner for me. I'm not sure why the overall isn't higher, but I suggest you check it out! read more

You're on your own. The New York Mart has a really, really, really great selection of Asian grocery items. There's a meat section, frozen foods, fresh produce, packaged foods, canned foods, cooking oils, spices, candies, dough, tea, wine, and everything else you can imagine. It's a treasure trove of things you can't find in your typical American grocery stores. But you're going to have to sift through it on your own. And the labels aren't always in English, so get your Google camera-lens translator ready. Asking an employee for help is not an option. It's difficult to tell if the majority of employees don't speak English or simply feign not knowing so they don't have to assist you. Example: I was able to find a small, 3 oz. can of S&B Oriental Curry Powder, but wanted to know if they had anything larger than the 3 oz can. When I held the can up to an employee and both verbally and gesturally inquired as to whether they had any that were bigger, he cut me off mid-sentence to say, "No more. All gone." That man was a liar. There were a dozen more on the shelf, but he didn't take the two seconds necessary to listen to my question. I went to the register to pay, asked the same question to the woman who was ringing me up, and got a dismissively unfriendly, "I don't know." If you plan to visit, allot for some extra time, as you may not find things as quickly as you would in other stores. read more

This outpost of the New York Mart chain is a welcome sight. It's about a 30 minute drive for me, but usually combined with a Sunrise trip to Dim sum and Sawgrass Mills outlets it's worth it. Price-wise New York Mart almost can't be beat for Chinese and Asian fresh produce, especially their weekly sales. Large varieties of vegetables, meats, poultry and fish are in abundance, at non-Publix prices (fresh ginger root 99 cents vs $6.19/lb!?) I've learned to bring an ice chest with blue ice along. You'll find lots of food, staples and even sake to buy. The BBQ deli roast duck and crispy roast pig are also delicious. Get your order before going to the checkout. The aisles and store aren't messy and confusing like Foodmart, but not as wide and clean as 99 Ranch Markets, the premiere Chinese/Asian American supermarket chain. Lucky for NYM, 99 Ranch hasn't arrived in FL yet. I long for the day when an Asian supermarket opens in Fort Lauderdale east of I-95. read more

New York Mart is an Asian supermarket that sells fresh live seafood as well as fresh cuts of beef, dried goods about a million other asian goodies that would make you feel as if you're in the middle of Chinatown. They also carry a large amount of fresh vegetables and even sake, so really, this place has it all for you to host a truly asian themed evening at your place for your weekend guests. Don't want to cook? They have fresh roasted duck, bbq pork or roasted pork that looked really good. This location is a little far for me since I live in Miami Beach but I heard they're opening up a huge place just off of 167th Street east of 95 in what most people refer to as our "Chinatown" of Miami, which isn't a really true statement. We have a bunch of Chinese restaurants with about 3 different Asian grocery stores, but nothing of this magnitude. NY Mart has already bought a large portion of shops that used to house the Toys R Us location directly across from Krispy Kreme and are putting together their latest location that promises to be a place that will undoubtedly affect the other surrounding Asian stores but competition is good, and I can't wait until they open closer to my digs. read more

Be careful and check the meat product before purchase. They are very clever with getting rid of old rotten meat by hiding them underneath a level of fresh looking layer. This meat tray i bought was very expensive, if only I didnt live 35mins away and had toss away my receipt I was return it. The closest Asian market to me. They used to carry some products that I use but suddenly they're off the shelves. They have lychee squares! They have a window of baked goods and and pastries. But you have to buy the goods there at the counter separate of your groceries. The also have hot foods, duck and ribs. They can be chopped and cut up and packed with some seasoning sauce to re-cook. Chaitime is a bubble tea spot located inside the supermarket. But someone of their teas are made from powder and water on the spot so it's not really well mixed. Not the best teas. On the right side of the store, are lines of fish on ice and some exotic "Asian" sea goods like frog!, crabs. There's also a wide variety of meats. All cut up right behind the glass windows. When you walk in you can smell the fishy of it all. The produce section of vegetables are always stocked. And the prices are very reasonable, sometimes cheaper! read more

I was almost sure I had written a review a few years ago but it is not here so here goes. Great market for authentic asian dry goods and fresh/frozen foods. There is also a Chai bar and a hot food area where you can buy a whole roasted head on duck to take home. There is a small bakery with some sweet and savory items. I have purchased fresh fish and been happy. They will clean it and debone it for you but you still pay the weight of the whole fish purchase. They have some exotic items like live blue crabs, live snapping turtles, and live tilapia swimming in tanks. It was fresh smelling today but I have been there when the odor can knock your socks off walking in the store. The fresh produce area has many greens and fruits. Some you can find in the American markets but I would only buy my beans and bok choys here. They are sold buy to pound so take what you want. The fruits are good and some you can't find anywhere else. I also like that you can buy herbs by the pound too. The dry goods is honestly where it is at! There are so many Asian ramen packages with different flavors and the canned Asian veggies are cool and weird. In the meat department, you will find everything from frozen whole octopus (raw) to parts of the cow that I didn't know they harvested. The staff is as friendly as they can get with a huge language barrier. I have noticed that the cashiers have a much better grasp of communicating in English now than when they opened. My daughter is obsessed with sushi bake, boba and trying all sorts of Asian snacks she finds on TikTok so I was looking for a local Asian market so we could buy ingredients for fun recipes. This place is conveniently located in Sunrise in the same plaza as Doris' Italian Market. It's clean and carries a wide variety of products both fresh and frozen. I was able to get krabstick, kewpie Mayo, furikake seasoning, nori, imported Lays with all sorts of different and fun flavors and tons of ramen packages. They also sell frozen Boba tea kits, all manner of dumplings and bao buns, beauty products and more! They also had a fresh produce section that seemed reasonably priced as well as a fish counter that even sold live blue crab. I had a great time browsing the aisles! Most Chinese people enjoy coming here because they can get their variety of veggies, fish and meats, like when they shop in New York Chinatown. However, we're in the burbs. But, they do try to offer a wide variety of fresh seafood. For the more creative chef, they also carry Japanese, Korean and Thai items; jars of kimchi, bulgogi sauce, soybean paste for miso soup, seaweed sheets for sushi, pad thai ingredients and a wide variety of dried and fresh noodles. Try Korean sweet potato glass noodles. They are gluten free. Some of my favorites; oyster sauce, instant tea and coffee packets with cream and sugar, almond cookies, chili flakes in oil, frozen shrimp balls by the pound, frozen dim variety packs, sesame mochi ice cream, canned grass jelly and lichees, fresh varieties of mushrooms, and egg tarts from their front bakery. I've passed this place a few times and decided to check it out last week. It's... okay. It's much bigger than the Asian mart that I usually visit and the variety of items is a huge plus, but the quality of food is not there. To be fair, I did not purchase any meat or produce (which they have plenty to purchase) so I can't speak on that. However, a lot of the packaged food that I bought was expired, which is disappointing. I know that with processed food (i.e. packaged noodles, candy, etc.) there can be some leeway (and these are obviously international items), but the products I picked up were expired by months which isn't encouraging. Not sure if I would personally stop by here again (I went later in the day and the boba tea stand they had wasn't open, so that is something I'd like to try), but if you do come here and look at the packaged items, make sure you check the expiration dates before putting anything in your cart. read more

Very nice Asian market! It's large and clean and has almost everything I need! They have a great frozen section, fruit and vegetables and lots of snacks! I can get a lot of the Asian spices and sauces that my mom loves too. It's far from our house so we come here every once in awhile! This is my go - to asian/oriental mart. They have everything I need (plus Chatime! ). Majority of items are mainly Chinese but they have a decent amount of Korean, Vietnamese, and some Filipino items as well. They also have a nice selection of fruits and vegetables. They also have hard to find produce such as honey mangoes (the small yellow ones, my favorite kind), Korean pears, a variety of mushrooms (I recommend the enoki for hot pot) and the infamous stinky durian. Their produce is fairly price and even on the cheap side. When the mangoes were in season, they sold a BOX of 20 something mangoes for $5. Publix sells it for $1.29 each. Their pomegranate and cucumbers are currently priced much less than Publix as well, just as an example. When you walk in, the horrid fish smell is going to eat your nostrils hard. At first, it may seem unbearable but you get used to it. I am used to smelling that smell at wet markets in Asia, so it doesn't phase me. But my boyfriend even after 10+ visits still finds it weird and offensive. Another thing you might find offensive is the live or fresh seafood selection they have. I've seen them sell turtles, live crab, live tilapia or snapper, and various clam specieces like geoduck--if you don't know what that is look it up and you will immediately think it looks like something sexual lol. Personally, I avoid this section, because the mussels I got where really foul! After that experience, I just don't trust it. But they have a lot of live items, so I can't imagine that would be bad. Please, if you have tried seafood and had a positive experience please message me. I'd like to restore my faith in them. On the otherhand the meat section IS resh. I always get the thinly sliced meat for hot pot and never had any issues. In fact, sometimes it is very flavorful (better than restaurants). My last stop before I leave is to get some baked goods and roasted duck/chicken (both located in the front). They aren't as fresh as I would like, but still tasty. And of course if you are here you have to get some bubble tea from Chatime. Even if you don't cook a lot of Asian dishes at home, it is worth coming to browse for the experience. read more
