Newark PD is terrible. There was a collision, and they tried to arrest me and charge me for felony DUI instead of taking me to the hospital for a concussion. Their untrained assessment of the fact that I had "slurred speech and other signs of apparent intoxication," which are similar to someone who just got hit in the head by another vehicle, they chose not to take me to the hospital for medical assistance, and instead chose to get bloodwork done and transferred me to jail. The jail nurse assessed me for a concussion, and I was treated properly by the Alameda Sheriff's. What a bunch of imbeciles. Furthermore, the DA has refused to file criminal charges, despite having tried to charge me with a felony. A vehicle hit me, but they chose to transport 2 people in the other vehicle that t boned me for minor injuries, yet I was transported to jail to get proper medical care by the jail staff nurses. This is ridiculous. Newark PD needs better officer training. Beyond ridiculous that they made me do a bunch of checks after being hit by a car and in their right mind thought I was drunk. The staff also refused to release my collision report to my insurance company, and when I spoke to my lawyer, they said it is not true that they can't release the collision report and diagram to me. So, I have no idea what they are talking about. Also, your officers need to stop flirting and doing PDA in the library parking lot. We see your unprofessional behavior. read more

Horrible egotistical cops. Had to help coworkers dealt with a restraining order issues. The cops came out and helped us remove the assailant but when it came to court papers to be filed they were rude and dismissive and even laughed behind our backs. My aunt had given me a car to work on for her while she was out of state and was parked in front of my house. I was driving it once a week, it was moving constantly. The city decided to tow it thinking it was abandoned without even coming up to my door to ask me to move it into my driveway. Completely just stole a vehicle from me. I am so impressed with Newark police last night at 2 am my outside dog was barking like crazy I knew something was wrong as she was going crazy! My son went outside with her and found a huge possum he thought our dog killed it we brought the dog inside and he tossed a pebble at it and it moved? Our dog is an 80 lb Husky shepherd mix I am sure she injured it I called animal control at 2am and they dispatched an officer as it is a holiday weekend and animal control was off, an officer came and he was great he took care of it my son was with him (16 years old) I did not get the officers name but he had such a positive effect on my son they worked together to move the possum he was such a nice guy read more

Today, has to file a police report. Yes, today, it is sunday. The lady there is very nice and fill in all the information and then meet with the police officer, he is also very nice. I actually file a police report a few days after. And police officer told me, next time, could call they will send police car there when "that event" happen. I as a Good Samaritan witnessed a non life threatening auto accident and stayed behind to give my statement, here's the confusing part The officer taking my statement called in my identification and asked if I was on probation or had any felonies? I asked her why she was running my name? Her response was "because your a witness." I obviously got agitated understandably. If I'm on probation it's because I took a lollipop from the grocery store when I was 2yrs old. My adult life is offended. As others have posted... Newark has the most unresponsive officers compared to SJ or even Oakland. I'm not sure what they all do all day but I definitely do not see them patrolling around town. Called to inform them of a car sitting in front of our house for over 5 days and no one came out to make or investigate.... they seem to spend a lot of time on FB updating their page but complaints in neighborhoods get ignored and are never resolved on time. Please be careful when going to lakeshore park! I've been to this park a couple of times during SIP & there have been a few times I've seen people attacking the ducks there, no one ever patrols this park! Today was the worst experience I've had here so far, there is a bench at the lake near Edgewater street these african american teenagers hang out, today I saw them throwing rocks at the ducks and continuously trying to hurt the animals so I yelled for them to stop from the opposite side of the lake and they started yelling obscenities and threatening us, thankfully there were people around to make sure they didn't attack us. The police were called and said they'd patrol the area, I left so I don't know that they actually showed, I never saw police in the area 30 min after the initial call. Disgusting how these teens attack animals and disrespect women. Please be careful in that area! read more

Lady wasn't very friendly. She was helping the police volunteer w my ticket which needed a sign off. She asked twice where I parked. And I just didn't like havwong to say my address and phone number aloud. Felt that was confidential info esp when someone was right behind me in line. I said thanks and she didnt respond. Someone must love their job! I decided to write my info on paper. .I went to pay at the cashier, he didn't even greet me either but came around and spoke a little. He fixed an error the lady downstairs made on the form and he said we were on same page but not the lady downstairs who I was working with for 5 min. Luckily the good looking cop who signed my ticket was cordial and helpful. The stars go to these individuals. In any job dealing with the public, it doesnt hurt to be friendly especially when no one ideally wants to visit the police station. read more

They towed my car for expired tags. The tow company left the clutch in when they towed it. After paying to get the car out, finding the clutch no longer worked, I contact the Newark police to ask them not to tow it again because it would be parked overnight in front of the tow company. The officer put me on hold, contacted the tow company, told them they never should have released the car, the tow company owner came out with a fork lift, and took my car back. The officer told me I have to go to the DMV and get a one day release, get the car smogged and pay for the registration, then present that to the Newark police department and after I do all of that, the tow company can released the car. Newark Police Officers are friendly and helpful, specially after crime incident I suffered at Sycamore Bay Apartments, Newark recently. They were here in a few minutes and so helpful, They made sure I was OK and that my family were safe, then started their investigation into the incident. These Officers are professional and really helped us out a lot and made us feel safe and I can't say thank you enough. They gave us all the paperwork we needed and contact information if we needed anything or needed to get update dated information for insurance reasons. read more

Called the non emergency , I was followed and waited and racial profiled by police unit on Clark and Sycamore St, asked where I can report the incident and all they say no stop was made .... yeah but he circled and made u turns and made another turn opposite exit my apartment.... how convenient, I like near the police department and never felt so unsafe being a resident of Newark for 2 years now .... when I called they said they are there to serve and protect, lol k . Recently had the need to have a ticket "signed-off". The ticket I received was issued by NPD and the instructions on the back specifically stated that only an NPD Officer or DMV employee can sign off. Darn, I thought, because Fremont PD is so much easier to locate and park. So I went on a Friday and surprise. It was furlough Friday so the front desk was closed, argh. A sign of our times economically. Returned on Monday and spoke to a female clerk. She asked a few questions and I had all the right answers, whew. I mentioned the language on the back of the ticket and she said that I could have had any officer sign off the ticket. They should probably fix that, not that I plan on getting another NPD parking ticket. I then waited in front for an officer to meet me. When the officer arrived he was not the most friendly guy in town. That's understandable, but still, a decent greeting and a "You're welcome" when a citizen says, "Thank you", is not asking alot. I mailed off the ticket and end of story. I will say, this place is definitely NOT easy to find. There are ZERO signs saying NEWARK POLICE. From the looks of it they need a new facility. From prior experiences with NPD I will say that it has been hit or miss. Some officers are professional, eager to help, and represent well. Others,....like the old crusty guy who signed off my ticket,....not so much. It's too bad that my most recent is a 2 star because I know they have better officers than the one I dealt. I've been pretty impressed with our Newark boys (and girls). Whenever there's a problem they show up in a reasonable span of time. I've had the pleasure of meeting 4 or 5 officers from the Newark department and they were all professional, courteous and helpful. I never once felt that any of them were on a power trip. I feel for these guys, they lay their lives on the line and they deal with a mountain of SH*T each day and yet when they need to go out and deal with someone who's pissed off because their home was burglarized or their car was vandalized or stolen, they're sympathetic and kind. When asked to patrol the neighborhood a bit more often, they obliged. Amazing because you can bet they're short handed due to budget cuts. Most would agree that all government offices make it difficult to get things done efficiently but hats off to the NPD for doing the best they can. read more

Returned my wallet! I was chillin' in my bed right now at 6 a.m. and I hear the doorbell going off. I thought it was part of my dream, but when I finally came to it, I hopped up and went to go answer the door. My sister thought someone wanted to kill us (of course), so being the ultra tough guy I am, I went and checked on the musical door bell man... I was so sleepy and disoriented, that I didn't even get the officer's name (I'm surprised I remembered my name.) He seemed like a really nice guy and the residents of Newark should be proud to have him working in our police department. I thanked him and he went on his way. They are nice and informative but lack any real police work when it comes to really checking out a crime in progress. When I asked a police officer on what or how I could proof that a crime was committed he gave me an attitude and sounded very insecure about me even asking questions on how to deal with certain situations. On top of that they are easily lied to by criminals and do not investigate thoroughly. I knew someone that called the cops on some underage party with there being alcohol and the police officer went into the home and did not even ask for IDs and let them all go just because the adult in charge convinced him that it was no big deal. Don't ask how I know this but I know for a fact that they don't do their work as thoroughly as other cities. read more

While Newark officers have always been polite, traffic control from Newark police department needs an attitude adjustment. Several times when there have been accidents, Newark police are at the scene, but just standing at their cars while long traffic jams buildup. Another time there was a road closure, with a police car and officer blocking the road, but no assistance as to which way to go to get around the closure. In my experience Newark officers have done the minimum, standing passively by, instead of proactively helping to minimize the traffic disruption. read more

I went in to resolve an issue with my vehicle being towed and was assisted by a lady whom I'm assuming was new or in training. A gentleman by the name of J. Beck was helping her with the process and seemed quite rude, borderline insulting as I was standing there and listening while he instructed the lady on how to process my paperwork. I asked Mr. Beck a couple questions regarding why the officer that had my vehicle towed from my home and didn't notify me since the vehicle was right outside my house and all he did was throw the policy/law book at me. My vehicle was towed and I obviously I know why since I'm there to pay the fee and resolve the issue. I asked a couple more questions and stated clearly that I was not arguing the fact but more wanted to find out more details as to why things were handled in this manner. Same attitude and same response..."well by law....". It wasn't until he stepped away that another gentleman asked what had happened and I responded "with all due respect, after my conversation with that other gentleman, I'd rather not go over t again". It was after that point did Mr. Beck suddenly have a slight change in attitude. I have no gripes with law enforcement officers and respect what they do and offer to the community. With that said, I would assume that someone like Mr. Beck who represents Newark Police Department would have a little more professionalism when speaking to fellow employees and the general public. I'm not a criminal, have a clean driving record, have an education, and a job. Perhaps Mr. Beck was having a bad day? read more

Last night on Wednesday March 4th,about 10:35 pm, I was traveling south bound on Cedar blvrd from Thorton Ave when I came across a police road block coming onto the railroad tracks.The first officer that I came into verbal contact with was one the most arrogant,rude individual I have come across from the Newark Police Dep. Instead of just notifiying me of a road block,he very rudely asked where I was headed,when I answered that I was headed home,he proceded to ask me in a very rude and arrogant tone of voice where my home was. After I responded in a defensive tone of voice once again that I was headed to my HOUSE, he then changed his attitude and told me I had to make a U turn and find another way because they had the road blocked. My question is : Why cant you just tell me that the road is blocked to begin with ,you dont have to be a rude ,arrogant person just because your wearing a uniform ? read more
