Walked in and my sweet tooth immediately quivered at the sight of chocolates galore! Initially told myself to just get a small bite of something, but ended up walking out with the following: CHOCOLATE COVERED POTATO CHIPS = my not-so-secret obsession! There was only 1 package left and I snagged it immediately. Delicious combo of salty and sweet. Don't tell, but the package was half-empty by the time I got home. WHITE CHOCOLATE FUDGE WITH WALNUTS = Rich, thick, and sweet with plenty of nuts to give just enough crunch for an enjoyable, contrasting texture PEANUT BUTTER SANDWICH = had no clue what this was when I first saw it in the display case, but it silently beckoned to me. It is a graham cracker topped with peanut butter cream, then covered in milk chocolate. Need I say more? MILK CHOCOLATE TOFFEE = this is what Newberry Candy is known for! Toffee was buttery and easy to bite into. Generous covering all over of your choice milk or dark chocolate. Who needs Willy Wonka? The proprietor, John Newberry, has my dream job. He gets to be surrounded by chocolate all day long, then gleefully hands out bites of happiness to all the folks who enter his shop. He loves giving away samples and, even now, I'm wondering if anyone ever turns them down. Upon checking out, John carefully placed all my purchases in a burgundy bag classy enough to be handed off as a gift for a loved one right then and there. Such small quality touches are appreciated and will keep me coming back for these yummy handmade creations. I hadn't been to this mall in about 2 years-I was at Hans Shoe Repair next door and a cute little candy store to the right of me caught my eye. After dropping off my favorite boots for new soles...I wandered over to Newberry Candy. The owner was behind the counter and she was very happy to come right up and introduce herself and offer me some candy. Of course...I couldn't say no. (I mean-who would?) I am a big baker myself so it was fun to see what treats she had and how she made them. The store had a very sweet feel to it-no pun intended! Ok, maybe a little! I liked the variety of items, I was able to ask about everything in the store-I did try an orange peel covered in milk chocolate which I thought would be weird...but how wrong I was! One bite and I was happily saying-Wow~ !! I didn't know what it would taste like-but I am not one to back down from an offer of free sweets sooooo.....I tried it and it's actually really interesting and tasty. Who knew an orange peel was edible and delish!?! Try it people...let me know how ya like it! I also like that this Candy store offers help with fundraisers for schools, businesses or sporting teams...what a great way to reach out to the community and give back! They would be great to order from as well for big parties or events. I believe they have a delivery service as well. Stopped in here on a whim and went home with some toffee! I wasn't going to buy anything but the friendly man behind the counter offered me a sample and when I heard it was toffee I accepted. I love toffee. What makes their toffee so lovely is the way the caramelized sugar on the inside isn't as hard as a rock like most other chocolatiers make it. It has some give and a little softness to it than makes it taste like I remember from my childhood. Everything here is home made and you can taste that it's all made with love and skill. I bought milk and dark chocolate toffee and my husband and I each got to eat our own bag. They were big and contained a lot but they didn't last long in our house! :) read more

I wanted to buy one of their Caramel Apples when I was there the first time, but they were sold out! So, I made a special trip on my way home from work and they had about 5 left. So delicious... I got the caramel with pecans and chocolate drizzle. I think the highest compliment you can give is to say it tastes like homemade. I was fortunate to grow up with a mother who loved to bake and also made fabulous candies, so I know what good homemade candy tastes like. I took my 85 year old mother to the shop the first time I went and we both tried the fudge. I said it is just as good as yours, mom. She said, "it's better than mine." Nuff said...! read more

I have been excitedly waiting nearly a year for Newberrys to open. I went in on their opening day this past Sunday and was greeted by two young ladies handing out samples. Having worked for many years with Candy Industry Magazine I have had the opportunity to sample Good, bad and mediocre candy confections. Unlike some of the reviewers ahead of me, I am not a friend of the owner nor do I have any interest I. The store other than a place to get delicious candy. Here are my personal opinions. 1. I sampled the pumpkin fudge and found it to have a nice aroma, good coloring but a "grainy taste, usually consistent with early crystallization at too high of a temperature. Proper Fudge should be brought to a "soft boil," of no More than 235*mentioned this to the owner and he replied "pumpkin is hard to work with." I sampled a piece of chocolate fudge and found it had the same consistency. Some people may like the grainy texture but most enjoy the creamy consistency of soft boiled fudge cooled slowly. 2. The toffee is out of this world! Delicious chunks of toffee with a soft crumbly coating. The bag I bought (expired in April 2017?), smelled wonderful,tasted exquisite upon first taste. It's next foray onto my palate wasnt as good,as the candy wasn't soft nor hard inside. It tended to stick to my back molars without the classic crunch. Still an eight out of ten. The price is $11.99 for a ten ounce tray. 3. The high schooler behind the register didn't know how to count change back to a customer with a $100. She needed assistance from a nice well seasoned woman. I will return again in a few weeks and update my review. read more

I got some candied orange peels (which were good), white chocolate fudge (very good) and milk chocolate toffee (insanely good). First of all, the sweets themselves are amazing, and there's a huge variety here for all taste palettes. John is very friendly, and delivered twice to us during quarantine, always masked and letting me know that the treats had been delivered. This Candy Store is wonderful. My mother, who is 84 years old called to place an order for my husbands birthday. She has placed an order for her great grandchildren previously for Christmas last year and was treated with patience and helpfulness by the owner. It was also important that she find someplace willing to deliver (which this store does). We just received the basket loaded with the most delicious chocolate homemade candy. Lots of wonderful English toffee, candied apples, chocolate covered potato chips, chocolate caramels, etc etc etc. The candy is just so good, fresh, and decadent. The owner takes pride in what they make and I am thankful that they are so patient, kind, and helpful with my elderly mother. This is definitely a wonderful establishment. We happened upon this amazing gem today. The owner, John, was so gracious in telling us about their specialities and the recipes. What a find! We caught the sign out of the corner of our eye as we turned onto TOBlvd east from Hampshire Rd: "candy shop!" John is a happy dude AND he makes seriously great candy. We sampled the dark and milk chocolate toffee--both winners! Smooth and melts in your mouth. We stocked up on both added a lil fudge and a giant peanut butter cup. We just had our company holiday party night at Newberry Candy. It was a huge hit for a festive, enjoyable evening doing something new together. We learned to make Caramel Apples and got to dip them and decorate them in the most delicious and fanciful ways . All genders and ages had a wonderful time. John Newberry was a kind and patient host and Bambi was wonderful as well. They were encouraging, helpful, warm and good-hearted. It was really perfect for what we wanted. Can't wait to go back when one of my kids asks to take their friends or have a party. They were also so kind about allergies and had things set up so everyone could enjoy a safe and tasty treat. The toffee is delicious and so was the almond brittle and white chocolate bark. I can't wait to go back to buy more and I will definitely be stopping in for treats or gifts. This is probably the best candy shop in the county. I tried "almost" every chocolate candy they had from candy apples, to turtles to fudge and they were all a 10 out of 10. I absolutely love this place! I had always seen it when I was passing by and finally one day I went in. They're chocolates are so good! You can go to those big brand stores but they don't stand a chance compared to this place. The chocolates are made with so much love. I recommend them to everyone.
