I went the Celebrate Recovery Mtg last night my old friend was there it was a really moving experience, but what got me interested was listening to Marcus preach vis YouTube from March 9, 2025 it was the Holy Spirit working through Marcus that got me there. For many years I avoided churches. I can honestly say that it had been more then a decade since I have felt fellowship from a church and wanted to return. If you are looking for a traditional Christian church you're welcome to attend but you might find that NewBreak is not your cup or tea. However if you're looking for a church of Christ Followers who truly try to follow and live the preaching then please come on by. No bible thumping here however Pastor Mike or Pastor DJ do preach and provide life lessons from the bible. They have many self help courses called Life Groups where you will interact with fellow members of the church and leaders to better and enrich your life. I would have signed up for 1 myself but unfortunately schedule does not allow. Everyone from the clergy to the congregation are humble and down to earth. You literally can come in shorts and a tshirt and still be greeted with open arms. Worship is amazing as the congregation is beyond talented and I always find myself singing along which I have almost not done at any church in many many years. If you're looking for a home, looking for a place to feel welcomed, looking to find answers and seek fellowship I whole heartedly ask you to attend a service and see if NewBreak could be that for you. We attended this Church when it was called canyon view and during the transition to NewBreak. We LOVED Pastor Mike. He was biblically accurate, and he was emotionally honest. Pastor Mike cared about the members of his congregation and about the community! However, Pastor Mike has retired and the new Pastor is a hard stop for us. Spent well over a week trying to just get a hold of anyone who could help me schedule a meeting. Finally two weeks later the best I could do we was a phone call while t he Pastor was driving. The sermons are no longer focused on God and how to serve God but on how poorly the congregation is as humans. The Pastor floored me when he spoke about a personnel situation that happened (his child had burned the carpet when an iron and he asked his congregation, "where was his mother!" Among other times he publicly called his wife out. He used terms during the sermon such separative words as "you, him, her, them" I never heard a sermon where the Pastor used inclusive terms, "we do this, all of us fail at, or just me-I do this" as the Pastor Mike used. This creates a holier than thou feeling, very quick. The community outreaches are not there either. The church no longer exists to serve the community. This is the worst part. It's so very sad. read more

I've been coming to newbreak tierrasanta for almost 3 years now. I grew up in church and newbreak has a lot of the same preaching style that I'm used to. However I grew up in a small town and am still getting used to the size of newbreak. I absolutely love pastor Mike Quinn and pastor Danny and I loved pastor Kevin when he was head pastor too. When things went bad with pastor Kevin they didn't really address the church as a whole and let us know what was going on. Some people got emails and others didn't. Which I didn't like that.... Also, I was in a life group for over a year and finally I had to leave because I wasn't making any real connections in the group... Seemed to never fit in and when I finally left the group I never heard from a single life group member again... Which sucked. But I love how much pastor Mike loves his congregation and his preaching style is phenomenal! read more

Interactive service. Relate able content. Warm & welcoming. Love the name tags & the coffee break is great too. The worship is ordained and clearly led my the Spirit. Ron and the team do a wonderful job. The service flows quite well and Pastor MIke keeps the attendees engaged and interacting with his teaching. The Saturday night service is extremely convenient and feels quite intimate too. They now offer Newbreak Nights which is an extension of the service on Saturday nights. It includes food trucks, family style tables to enjoy community with other attendees and live music. It's really quite a great idea. read more

Gosh, I wish I could give it somewhere between 2 and 3 stars. First off, it's your typical non-denominational christian church meaning good contemporary worship, shorter sermons, and free coffee and donuts. However, after 6 months, we left. The church did a 4 or 5 week series on tithing, a questionable practice to burden today's christians with, as new testament only calls us to be a cheerful giver, but regardless, many churches are teaching the 10% thing, so I get it, even if I don't agree. No, what was abominable was the "money back guarantee" they gave on their "90 day tithing challenge." (90 days, 10% of gross income entirely to NB). I give them credit for trying, but also was disappointed to find out that the pastors don't write their own sermons, rather they have a paid sermon writing team at the head office in Tierrasanta, and all pastors at every one of the 6 or 7 campuses give the same sermon every sunday. Children's program was great, and it's hard to find any fault there. When I left the church, those who we were friendly with stopped calling us completely. Disappointed. And, since the people ARE the church, not the building according to scripture, this place gets only 2 stars. If you were to wander in on an avg sunday and never get involved, it might be higher. read more

This is a very non traditional church in the sense of teaching the bible, but their beliefs are traditional. Just to clarify...You can literally go in your shorts and flip flops if you want and no one will look at you like you are crazy. (This is a leap for this Catholic girl...lol) They are affiliated with the Assembly of God church. We have been there with the Pastor preaching his sermon in person and when the Pastor preaching through a video screen. LOL...Apparently he was at one of the other churches and it was live streamed to the church we were at and also the other churches. The Pastor is very blunt in his sermons...it will not be your typical day at church...lol Don't get me wrong, he is not offensive, just very open/blunt. The church seems to be spread out among the businesses that surround it. The children are split up into different age groups and put in different classes for their teachings. My son loves it. :) My daughter hasn't gone in yet...she is in the awkward faze of being too old for one, not old enough for the other. So she has stayed with us. What I do find very comical is that as you enter the parking lot, leading to the church, it is a one way/one lane, and there is a drive up ATM...lol... read more

This church is so down to earth and real. The people and pastors really care about you and show it as they live their lives and show God's love through their words and actions. The worship experience is AWESOME and the coffee breaks during services are pretty cool! They have great kids programs and small groups for any topic you could ever want! We came across Newbreak (Canyon View originally) back in 2006 on a very bad emotional day for me and thought what the hay let's give it a try. We fell in love immediately. Everyone took their time out to introduce themselves, get to know our kids, and help us. After 6 months, I found myself in the 2 yr old room working every Sunday for almost 2 years. We had 2 children accept Christ and 2 that were dedicated there. It was our home away from home. After we moved we had not been able to find a church that we all felt comfortable in. Now that we're back in the area after almost 3 yrs being gone, we still enjoy coming. With our first day back, we ran into people left and right that we knew and lost contact with. The pastor staff remembered who we were even by name. It just confirmed that Newbreak is our home, it was truly like we hadn't left at all. The children's ministry is beyond fabulous still. Always inventive, outgoing, and full of love. The sermons are on target, conveyed with today's themes, and very easy to grasp. The life groups are amazing. My only wish is that one day they'll open a location down in Chula Vista so that we can have life groups down here as it's not feasible for us to drive to Tierrasanta 2 times a weeks. If you are considering visiting Newbreak, don't hmm & aww over it; just do it. You will NOT be disappointed. read more

Theologically solid with practical, relevant teaching. Music and video are exceptional. Church makes people feel comfortable; very relaxing, inviting environment. The only gap I see are in their small groups. The four groups I attended (and hosted) seemed to lack real connections, authenticity, and depth. This many be unique to Newbreak due to the high number of military families living in Tierrasanta. read more

This post breaks my heart only because of how we left. We used to come here and left a few years back. We have twins with disabilities. The Sunday school does not support children with disabilities. It wasn't a problem for us because we just took them inside with us. However, the main pastor approached us after a sermon and said it would not be appropriate to have the children in the sanctuary for the next month because it will have adult themed preaching. We explained that we can't take them to the children's ministry because there was no support. Beating around the bush, he told us that we might stay home for the month. We were taken aback. When we scheduled a meeting with the lead pastor, he did not show and one of his associate pastors met with us outside. When we told him that we were leaving and why he told us good luck. James 2:2-3 come to mind when we hear someone who comes to this place. The faith here is surface only. read more

I started going to church because I felt that it was what I should do. Now I go to church because I LOVE it & I can't wait to go! Newbreak church has a firm understanding of what living a life centered on Jesus Christ is all about. Their core value is "In a city, loving a city, impacting a city for Jesus". Newbreak church is the hands and feet of Jesus. They are always doing acts of kindness in the communities. The congregation is friendly and inviting and the pastoral staff is amazingly anointed. Newbreak church is a multi-site church so each location has the same message, but by spreading out throughout the different communities they are still able to maintain a small and intimate congregation feeling. There are 4 service times (1 on Saturday & 3 on Sunday) at the Tierresanta location and 1 Sunday service at El Cajon, Santee, Pacific Beach & Mira Mesa. Newbreak church is diverse and always has something to offer for everyone. This church has helped me establish a relationship with Jesus and I encounter Jesus personally each weekend. We have been attending Newbreak for 2 1/2 years now. I grew up catholic turned episcopalian and we had been thinking about trying out a more non secular type of worship. I have a few friends that attend Newbreak but not at the Tierrasanta campus. My children & I were at the tierrasanta parade one day & happened to park in front of the church. Fate? We were warmly greeted by Oreda who told me a little about the church. We attended as a family the next day for the Sunday service. We LOVED the laid back atmosphere and everyone was so friendly & welcoming. The messages are great & relevant & the music is amazing. We have been back every single Sunday since. I play guitar & my husband teaches Sunday school. We are involved in life groups & have made lifelong friends. I HIGHLY recommend coming here :) read more

Not only Do I love this Church my Children Love this church. As a mom I am always looking out for my children and their salvation is very important to me. But I dont want them to be exposed to negative or hate. I am so pleased to say that the messages here are Positive, Uplifting and leave you feeling wonderful and ready for the week. I've attended this church several times in the past (20+) and always felt welcome until the last time I went, about a year ago. I felt singled out and wanted to leave. The message was about tithing (it had nothing to do with sexuality) and somehow, Pastor Mike worked it in that "we can't interpret the Bible the way we want" and looked directly at us as he said it. How dare we be gay and set foot in his church thinking we could possibly be Christian? It finally bothered me so much, I wrote the church and email which went without a response as to whether gays and lesbians were welcome at their church, already knowing the answer. I can say that Newbreak has a great worship band and the people who help out the worship minister rotate week to week, which is nice. For me, though, I need inclusion, not to be told that the gay "lifestyle" is bad and should not be supported. Beware:this is a "love the sinner, hate the sin," style church that does not believe God's love is for everybody, evidently. They are also associated with Assemblies of God, if that helps anyone. read more

We tried out Newbreak because it was in our neighborhood, which I thought was pretty cool and rather convenient. I'm a little surprised that bothers people. I do agree that it is a little non traditional, but as the saying goes, you can't keep trying the same thing and expect different results. I've been in church nearly all my life and so far this is the first time I have felt challenged as a Christian to not only pursue a real, authentic relationship with God, but with the community around me, as well as areas that may be lacking community. They have done events at my kids school and I find it really awesome how the kids see Newbreak at THEIR school and how excited they are that THEIR church is out volunteering and serving. My husband was raised catholic, so he does have hard time with the relaxed dress code. Coming from a single parent family that was pretty poor growing up, I feel like taking the stress off the dress code is more encouraging to those may not be able to afford "Sunday best" type clothes. Praising God is about coming as you and letting God meet you right where you are. If you aren't sure about attending Newbreak, I highly recommend trying out the Newbreak 101 life group to give you a better idea of who the church is and what they're all about. You won't be disappointed. We will be sad to leave when we have to move again. read more

We love Newbreak Church. We truly love God, love people and love to learn more of His Word together. The teaching is straight from the Bible, and all the men and women of the Pastoral staff (yes, you read that right!) are Godly, humble and committed to seeing everyone (regardless of where they are on their journey towards God) grow in peace, love, joy, faithfulness, kindness, gentleness and self-control. Pastor Mike and Pastor Teresa are so full of love and the Holy Spirit, and we learn so much from them! The congregation is diverse and friendly, and the many Life Groups (over 100) mean you are sure to find a time, subject and "fit" that works for you. Newbreak invests in the community, and keeping the facility safe, clean and welcoming for our precious littles and their parents and grandparents. Together, we see that our neighborhoods, work and school environments are all places where people are hungry for God, and we learn practical ways to reach people with the love of Jesus. Whether we are loving on teachers in a school around the corner or in Costa Rica - bringing clean water to a remote village under typhoid quarantine or handing out free drinks at a local parade - or making sure everyone knows God loves them and wants them FREE to be all He created them to be - Newbreak gives us the tools, the opportunities and the vision to make it happen. I love this church, I first found it prior to the PCS. I came during the weekend and went to a service. I fell in love with it, I wanted to move to Tierrasanta; but, we ended up moving to a different town for 2 years. Still went to newbreak Scripps campus. Now we finally moved to this side. This campus has stepped it up, the worship team is on fire every Sunday. The first time back they even had violins up in there. The lead Worship singer/director... he's awesome. So chill, makes you feel like you are in a lounge listening to just jams and that's the way worship music is supposed to feel. You're supposed to love it, fall into it and speak to God through it. They have this woman in there and she gives Adele a run for her money. Guitarists... I mean just everything. Although I miss pastor Daryl and Robert, I needed this shift in gear. Carrie I also miss too in the children's ministry; but, then again this one is pretty good too, now that my youngest is the right galaxy. She comes out ecstatic. They are so involved in the community and truly show Christ's love. We have a new pastor and he just came from Georgia. He has you on your knees laughing. He's down to earth and I'm truly grateful having this church. read more

This is a great church with a relaxed atmosphere and solid worship and teaching. The church has a core focus on mid-week small groups.

I have attended and worked at many churches in my life, and this is the healthiest I ever known (these ranged from small Methodist churches to the Crystal Cathedral). Leadership is an issue of the heart, and the heart of Pastor Mike and the rest of the leadership team is one of humility- Exalting God Only! In over 11 years of seeing this church from the outside and inside, I find that, in spite of the imperfections found in any organization, Newbreak continually seeks to be about Jesus and not about themselves. I have been going to this church for many years and I really like it. The pastors and leaders are real people and I don't feel like I have to be fake. However it makes me sad that there are a couple reviews hear from people who have their own agenda and never have actually attended the church. The church was going to let a charter school that was focused towards helping military use their facilities in Tierrasanta but apparently some neighbors had issues with any extra traffic. I do not understand how this is a negative thing? Nevertheless my kids love the church and I really enjoy how the focus on serving their communities. read more
