I was looking to place a large order for a work event so I reached out to a few local vendors in early January. I needed 40 boxes of 6 piece truffles the week before Valentine's Day. Newfangled was amazing! They responded to my initial inquiry within a few hours. Quick replies really go a long way in my world! They sent an invoice, confirmed my pick up date, and just like that I was on to my next to-do. The chocolates were incredible and truly like little pieces of art! They were also much bigger than I was anticipating but no one is going to be sad about MORE chocolate. My only feedback is that I didn't ask each truffle flavor to be placed in the same placement of each box. This was for a chocolate and wine pairing so that made it a bit trickier because they were mixed throughout. Thankfully, we decided to plate the truffles so it all worked out. Just a quick update to sing the praises of the pralines that are available at the Best Chocolate in Town pop up on Mass Ave! I picked one up while shopping there yesterday and it was amazing! Fresh, delicious pecans with that perfect sweet, buttery airy crisp texture....they are sweet and rich, so one was big enough for two treats! I just checked out their website and noticed they are selling Best Chocolate in Town products...and had also noticed that the Best Chocolate in Town pop up store was selling Newfangled Confections products. I read further on the website and it looks like they bought the Best Chocolate in Town in early 2020. The great news is that both lines of products seem unchanged, and remain fabulous! read more

I was sitting on a Super Bowl Yelp Tour bus, when an adorable woman across the aisle isle asked if I would like to try a sample of her candy that she was working to turn in to full-scale business. Little did I know at the time, I was talking to The Frittle Queen, the guru of nostalgic candy, the friendly smile behind Frittle Candy, Carrie Abbott! I have a serious frittle addiction, thanks to Newfangled Confections. It all started a few months ago when a local pop-up boutique was selling these little brown boxes with a name I had never heard of before: FRITTLE. Being the type of girl who loves to try new things, I purchased a box not knowing that my world was about to change for the better. Inside my box were these little tan squares and an sugary aroma that enticed me to pop one in my mouth immediately. Just one square was packed with such a sweet, creamy, and peanutty taste that I couldn't help but pop another one in my mouth...and another...and another...and the next thing I knew the box was empty! It was like the frittle had me in a snacking trance. It was so hypnotic that I bought the other two flavors shortly after--sesame and coconut--both of which had a similar effect on me: GONE IN ONE SITTING. Having seen some Yelp reviews for 'Frittle Candy", I soon learned that the business behind the candy was called Newfangled Confections and it's just a stones throw off Mass Avenue on North Street. I stopped by the simple green house and grabbed a spot in the parking lot next door. There's a small sign in the window that has the company name and I saw they were open, so it was time to experience the amazing treats for myself! The owner/creator of the candy was there and she was packing a lot of samples to take to a trade show, but took time out to greet and help me pick out a package of Sweet & Spicy Pecans and a box of Frittle. The pecans are coated with both brown sugar and sugar, butter, and a combination of spices that add a little savory flavor to the initial taste. Then, there is a surprise as the spices kick in a bit of heat on the aftertaste. Quite tasty! The candy that seems to draw the most attention (well deserved!) is the Frittle. I've seen reviews try to describe it and the best I can offer is that it is a sweet peanut flavored candy that is cut into small flat squares. The texture is somewhere between that of peanut butter fudge and peanut brittle. There is a little bit of crunch, but much softer than I expected. I've done a lot of candy making on my own and know it is quite labor intensive and can be very unforgiving if the temperature isn't right. Heat it too slowly and the moisture steams off. Heat it too quickly and you run the risk of burning the sugars on the bottom of the pan (it can ruin a whole batch!) The ingredients swell and bubble and to the untrained eye will look like it will be done, but you have to keep stirring and watching. It's no wonder that the small boxes sell for about $5..not for the ingredients, but for the time it takes. And it will be $5 that you won't regret spending! Review #1378 read more

There's something special about a business when the owner is just a great, outgoing, funny person. Carrie is just that. She shares her passions for her products in a fun, relatable, humorous way. As far as her Frittle, I'm usually only into chocolate when it comes to candy. That being said, this frittle is some of the best that I've ever tasted. It's sweet, but salty. It's not overly dry, but not too moist. It's the perfect texture with the best crunch. Also, can we talk about how cute the boxes/branding are? I had the pleasure of attending a Meet the Maker event here yesterday and got my first peek at this local candy store. I never realized that Newfangled Confections had an actual storefront steps from Mass Ave, although I always try to find them at local markets and events. Why? Because Frittle is easily one of the most popular small gifts I give! It makes a great hostess gift (especially if there are kids/you want an alternative to booze), a fantastic stocking stuffer, and everyone in my family loves it. You can't go wrong with Frittle. However, my absolute favorite Newfangled Confections item (so far!) is the pecan praline. Seriously addictive! The sweet and spicy nuts also make a fabulous addition to any cheese plate or salad! You can stop by this location to purchase Frittle, pecan pralines, or the sweet and spicy nuts, but you can also find the pralines at your local Yats and the other items at local markets and events. I was recently a guest at the Yelp Meet the Maker, Newfangled Confections candy making event. Owner, Carrie Abbott, hosted a small group to make Pralines that are sold across Indianapolis at Yats as well as on her online store. We all got our turn for a hands on event and eventually reaping the rewards and tasting our final product. She also let us sample chocolate covered bacon and buttered mints that she made. I'm not much of a sweet tooth, but everything was absolutely amazing! I took it home to share with the family, who were happy to take it off my hands. Several weeks later, as I was planning for a local meeting, I thought it would be a nice touch to share a little local flavor with my team of 50. Carrie met me downtown with her little brown boxes of Frittle wrapped in our company's signature blue ribbon. Can I just say that everything, and I mean everything, that I have ever had from Newfangled Confections has been AMAZING!! I haven't ever been to the actual store, but always find it a point to seek them about at any event that they have a booth at and buy my stash otherwise when I go into Goose the Market or Homespun. The Frittle is melt in your mouth heaven. I never like the taste of traditional peanut brittle with all of its sharp edges. This is not like anything close to that..if you haven't tried it, you must because it is glorious. If you have friends that are gluten free, no worries, you have just found their Christmas present because Frittle is gluten free. My other absolute favorite are the Pralines. I seriously have to stop myself from eating the whole thing in one sitting. Usually I don't succeed, but I try. It is sugary, wonderful goodness. The sweet and spicy pecans are also wonderful. If you don't live near or are looking for a Christmas or birthday gift, all of their wonderful creations are available for purchase online. The best thing about Newfangled Confections is that wherever you find them - festivals, markets, events - they are always serving up samples! That's how I first found them, at the Indiana Artisan Marketplace last year, I think. The pecan pralines are my favorite and are HUGE. The bigger, the better, in my book. I'm a sugar addict so those make me very happy. I also love their Frittle, all the peanut buttery goodness of brittle, but in a much easier to eat (not as sticky/hard) form. I am not a huge fan of peanut brittle so I was hesitant to try this version. I was pleasantly surprised when I realized this vegan wheat free option was the best brittle or i mean "frittle " I've had in a long long time. I tried the original frittle with peanuts and it was really good, sweet and crunchy, not too sticky. Then I tried the sesame frittle and it was so good! This is definitely worth trying! read more

Whenever I pull out that little white bag of sweet nutty pralines, I become the best mom ever. I search this table out whenever I sneak off by myself to INDIEana Handicraft Exchange or Yelp Totally Bizarre. I haven't been in the shop. If you lack will power when it comes down to amazing candies, be careful how much you buy! Now, I love nuts... most nuts...but I'm not a big fan of peanuts and peanut butter is just a no-no. So, I was a tad dubious when I saw frittle at the Yelp's Totally Bazaar event a couple of years ago. But, hubs loves peanut butter, and I'm always up for a free sample, so we tried it...and left with 2 cute little boxes of frittles and a couple pralines. Both were delicious but I love that frittle texture of fudge meets brittle. I rationed out the frittles so we wouldn't eat them all in a couple of sittings. Since then, we've bought the frittles a few times when we've seen them, but I haven't seen the pralines. The boxes make frittles the perfect holiday gift for just about anyone that doesn't have a peanut allergy. Since our first frittle encounter, they've brought out chocolate covered frittle!!
