I felt like I was on vacation when I walked into the Artisan Bakery. So many cases filled with the most beautiful pastries. This must be Paris or some place exotic. Cakes, cookies, donuts, bread, tarts and so much more. It was hard to choose. I sampled pistachio cookies. Yum. The clerk was friendly and patient as I carefully inspected each case. So, you take a tray and clean tongs and pick what you want. I selected a pumpkin filled empanada and a Nutella puff pastry. OMG, the prices are so reasonable. The pastries were huge and delicious. My pumpkin empanada was not too sweet and was like a Thanksgiving hug. The Nutella puff pastry was light and tasty. If I lived closer, I'd stop by every day. The Artisan Bakery is a perfect stop for a special treat. They make cakes to order, and have a few on hand. The cakes are beautiful. There is plenty of parking in the little strip mall. Artisan Bakery is a relatively small yet inviting panaderia, or Mexican bakery, offering a combination of delicious bakery items and hospitality. I'd been seeing Artisan when heading out to my parents' home. I recently hired a nearby lawyer to handle my father's estate, so a visit to Artisan finally became convenient. Artisan offers the unique panaderia experience (see Nicole S's review for a description), however, you can also tend to just get service. Being a wheelchair user, I tend to get pretty easy consideration for that. This location is in a small strip center. I wouldn't say there's accessible parking, however, the parking lot is pretty naturally workable and the sidewalk is almost exactly level to the ground. The double-sided glass doors are easy to manage, though employees are friendly and helpful. Artisan offers custom orders and they also have some delivery options. They opened in 2018 by the Reyes family and offer service in both English and Spanish. You can get traditional Latino favorites - Conchas, Empanadas, Galletas, tres Leches, Pan de Muerto, Rosca de Reyes, and more. However, you can also find more Americanized offerings like donuts (only two kinds), Disney cakes, pastries, cinnamon rolls, croissants, wedding cakes, fruit tarts, etc. The offerings here are quite diverse. The prices are fair (this is located in a very working class area - I wouldn't quite call it residential, though there are both housing additions and apartments nearby). One other really cool thing they do - if you go to their website, they have a feature called "Learn" where you can learn about many of the pastries and items they offer. It's absolutely delightful and a great way to know exactly what you're getting into when you go in the door. While they'll no doubt explain things to you, this is a great way to learn about a wide variety of products. I love it. This bakery is about 3 minutes from my mom's house so we wanted to take some dessert to a family gathering and I had heard amazing things about it. My husband is a pastitas (butter Cookie) lover and so he HAD to get some. There were light and buttery and he was happy. We got the butter muffins, which were delicious. I love that they aren't too sweet and yet flavorful. We got almond cookies, an apple turnover with powdered sugar and a slice of the Oreo tres leches cake. I've never had trea leches cake but this was phenomenal. Moist with just the right mix of whipped icing, chocolate and cake. The shop seems small on the inside and it got crowded about 2 minutes after we arrived but it's clean and the items are well labeled. Small but mighty Mexican style bakery. Friendly service in both English and Spanish. Super clean, which I find important when dealing with foods. Great selection of pastries, cakes and giant rolls. Unfortunately, I don't know the names of the various goodies. The best I can do is to identify churros, which are also sold here and are delicious. I just pick whatever looks delicious and there are also signs telling you what it is. My favorite was a sort of jelly roll cake with strawberry and coconut filling. I saw this store and have always had a soft spot for local bakeries. This bakery brings out the Babette best in Mexican rolls and sweet breads. You walk in, and are almost overwhelmed with the fragrant aromas of fresh bread. Grab a tray and tongs, and go to town! The clerk saw I did not speak much Spanish, but was ultra friendly and welcomed me to the store. The sweet crème taco was delightful, but the sweet cream turnover was unreal! This is a cute panaderia with a good assortment of pan dulce, but also some other kinds of cookies and sweets, like alfajores, filled pastries, donuts, turnovers, palmiers, tres leche cake, and more. They also have a case full of just bolillos. If you already know what to do at a panaderia, then you can skip this part. But for those that don't: It's customary at a panaderia to serve yourself. So look for the large silver platters and tongs. Grab one of each, and then proceed to try to open the case, grab your items and balance them on the huge tray at the same time without them all falling onto the ground. It's like a Mexican game of Topple! I wish panaderias would instead use baskets or bowls or something that isn't unwieldy like a large platter, but what are you going to do? The stress of gathering items without them falling to the floor is part of the charm of visiting a panaderia. I got a donut and it was fine -- but you don't really come here for the donuts. (And anyway, they only offer two different kinds of donuts.) You come for the conchas and the cookies shaped like pigs. I also got two different alfajores, and they were amazing! One had dulce de leche inside, and the other had raspberry jam. I will be loading my platter with alfajores next time I visit. I was in Avon on Sunday morning and saw this little bakery in a strip center. As I entered the store there were signs on the door saying that masks were required and also telling you to wash your hands after you enter. There was a sink right by the door as I entered and I washed my hands before I started looking at bakery goods. The bakery had Latino specialties. I saw a couple people at the counter take trays with tongs. I really didn't see us sign that said I needed to do that but it makes sense since you pick up items out of cases. I found many items that I liked to take home, of course! I took home some jalapeno cheese bread to eat with our chili for dinner. This was some hot stuff it was loaded up with jalapeno and the hubby loved it. I also took home several different shortbread cookies, and a molasses brown sugar cookie that was only slightly sweet, some cream puffs, and cannolis. I got a variety for a dinner, and everyone loved them! 10/10 on the food, however I was a little confused how to serve it since it's self serve and I didn't see the sign until later. Also the employees were distracted having a conversation and when I asked for a box I had to fold it myself, however they were polite and I do imagine that they probably had a long day. All in all the desserts were phenomenal however in my opinion the sign for instructions should be placed somewhere more visible. I definitely will be going here again! Best pastries around this area. I moved to this side of town and have driven by this place so many times. It is often packed and I always say that I should stop in so I finally did! When you walk in, you can grab a pair of tongs and a metal plate/dish/pizza pan. You'll use these items to choose your pastries. On this occasion I tried an almond croissant, a strawberry jam filled pastry, and a jalapeno and cheese filled pastry. After mentioning it was my first visit, the lady offered me a piece of tres leches cake. So I had cake for breakfast and shared the other pastries. The consensus was that everything was delicious. Everyone Loved the cake .. it was a anniversary gift and made a wonderful gift ..i am glad we decided to go here .. We have had black forest cake from the rockville road location and it was the best black forest cake in all the location we have got from ( best in the city for me ). When i found out they had 2 new location close by we wanted to go see if we could get the black forest cake. We will be back! We were very blown away by the subtle flavors and quality of the pastries. If pastries are your thing, you should be able to find something to fit your taste. I believe what we tried was as follows: A thousand layer cake with mixed fruit, an orange (?) flavored yo-yo, a cortadillo (fluffy bread with slightly toasty crust and a smooth buttery sugar spread), and a mini Mexican cheesecake. Flavors were on point, and definitely not sickly sweet (which I think is a big plus). They also offer cakes for special occasions. I think these would make very delicious, fun birthday cakes! Right down the street from work, I decided to visit Artisan Bakery and Pastries since they were open after a long work day. There is a variety of pasties and breads available that are hard to resist. You get a big round flat silver tray to place your bakery items on. You use tongs to grab yiur bakery items from various cases which I like better than using those thin bakery sheets that involves people reaching their whole hand and 1/2 an arm. Since COVID-19 is still a factor in our daily lives, I am more cognizant of just how many ways diseases and viruses can spread quickly. I think they should offer disposable plastic gloves to don before grabbing the tongs as an added protective precaution. I settled on 2 cookies, chocolate chip and confetti for my mini me and a slice of oreo cake. The cookies are more of a crunchy sugar cookie texture and mouth feel. They are large so you can eat 1/2 immediately and the other 1/2 later. The oreo cake is a layered cake with oreos in it and it was tasty. Definitely large enough for 2 people to share. I did see customers ordering cakes and there is a book to help guide a customer on options as well as the staff offers help quickly. I only saw 2 employees but they efficiently handled 6 customers with ease. read more

Move out of the way because Artisan Bakery is Indianapolis' new bread mine for sweet pan! I must be honest and say I never considered myself a pan person. But between my parents those white paper bags full of bread had no chance. Sure, I would dabble in a concha or muffin every now and then but to ever drive out for the purpose of bread or put it on the grocery list? Never. Then word from the grapevine reached my mother, my uncle told her that this bread was the new "it." And believe me, they are serious about their bread spots. So I tried a concha not expecting anything exciting, but it was different. Airy on the inside, very fresh, with a sweet crumbly vanilla paste on top. I was hooked. I hate to say there's nothing worse than a flaky dense concha with a stale bottom and a brittle paste top. Since that fateful day I've hauled out of my way to drive to Rockville Road and my goal is to try some of the other sweet breads. So far I can vouch for the sesame seed roll (perfect for sandwiches!) The jalapeño bolillos, the canastas, and obviously the conchas. The bread feels very fresh each time, the place is pristine and feels so welcoming with hints of artesian decor and fully stocked bread cases. read more

I read all the great reviews and was really looking forward to trying some pastries here. I've been tasting pastries all around the metro area lately, so I had high expectations seeing 5-stars. Frankly, the flavors and textures on the items I ordered left me a bit disappointed. I stopped in and picked up an Oreja (flat, usually crispy heart shaped pastry), a Peine (a cream cheese filled usually flaky rolled pastry), and a Strawberry Ocho (a double sided spin on a Danish with strawberry on one side and cream filling on the other side.) What I noticed in the Peine and Ocho was an unsweetened breadlike (think dinner roll) flavor that was a little bit chewy. The filling and the appearance were great, but the payoff with flavor was the pastry itself being more savory than sweet. I picked up the Oreja for my wife who loves when she bites the pastry and gets a crunch. Unfortunately, the one I got was light in color and crunch. Very little sweetness here as well. I'm not sure if I caught them on an off day or if this is just their recipe for pastries. But if I'm on the west side, I think I will drive a little farther to Mama Ines for 5-star pastries. Yes, all the reviews are true and Artisan Bakery on Rockville Road truly deserves the Five Stars! There isn't much I can share that hasn't already been said in previous reviews. We stopped by yesterday and we were not disappointed. The bakery is very clean and bright with each glass case stocked full of delicious breads and treats plus those wonderful bakery aromas! Everything we purchased was just as delicious as it looked. Grab a tray and tongs then find your favorites!! The refrigerated area is on each side of the cashier counter. Inside were mini pecan pies, mini cream puffs, fruit tarts, opera slices, gorgeous full size cakes and more. The only thing missing were slices of flan but I still found an abundance of treats to take home. I have to say my very favorite thing we purchased yesterday was the Chocolate Crossiants which were so light, flaky and stuffed with rich, smooth and creamy dark chocolate. 20 seconds in my microwave was as if they just left the oven. Buttery, warm and melt in your mouth phenomenal!! The beautiful and flaky Almond Crossiant ran a close second but chocolate always wins out here. The Apple Strudel was not only gorgeous but as flavorful as one would hope. The tender crust, the sweet, perfectly diced size apples and spices stuffed inside the perfect lattice crust and dusted with powdered sugar was a wonderful breakfast treat with our coffee. The Spinach Bread loaf was the perfect size and so moist and tender. Scrumptious with Spinach Dip and our pasta tonight. I hope to be able to purchase a Jalapeno loaf during our next visit. Per my Son, the shortbread and chocolate chip cookies were terrific as well as the Pineapple Ochos and Cream Puffs. Let's not forget the Cinnamon Sugar Donuts and Cookies which are keepers for my husband. Basically, everything we tried was delicious and each of us had our favorites. You get your tray and tongs and place what you want on the tray, they bag it up once you get to the front. Great breads and cakes! Not always the best service. There are some young snarky full of attitude girls that really can make the visit unpleasant to some. I've just learned to ignore that when I do stop by on the occasional visits. The "slight older" ladies are truly nice! Maybe the owners?
