A week in a half ago I received LASIK treatment in both eyes from Dr. Newman and I am already beyond pleased with my results! My surgery was completed at the end of April of 2022, so at the time of this writing it's been 3 months. My eyes coming into Dr. Newman's were far from perfect. I've been wearing glasses since the 2nd grade. I had heavy astigmatism in my right eye and nearsighted in my left eye. As a reference, in my contacts I wear toric and toric XR monthlies. The one toric XR was for my right eye. I was previously disqualified for reasons that made little sense to me the day prior, however, I came into Dr. Newman's knowing this and prepared for questions and alternatives. I advised the office staff of why I was DQ'd at the other place. They took a look, reviewed and performed the same diagnostic tests. They found no such issues with my eyes and stated that they were healthy with enough corneal tissue to proceed. This was great news but I was still left doubtful and why shouldn't I be? It seemed like a night & day diagnosis. In order to proceed, I had the option of dilating my eyes now or when I schedule the surgery. I decided on getting the dilation done that day just to clear out anything lingering on the day I planned for surgery. After dilation, they explained the procedure and I was also seen by their optometrist. She reviewed my chart, the tests, she looked at my eyes and basically told me that I'm cleared for surgery as well. However, I had the option to wait for Dr. Newman to give my final review and clear me for surgery for reassurance or I could go ahead and schedule that day. Opted to wait for Dr. Newman to give me the call back because I really wanted to be sure. Long story short, I was cleared for surgery! I opted for the newer tech LASIK which reduces the halos seen at night. I liked the fact that Dr. Newman's office and staff were so kind and were not pushy in this decision. I loved that there were options and they also asked Dr. Newman of my alternatives if I'm not given the ok for LASIK. I'm 3 months down the line and I was advised my vision will reach full healing by the 6 month line. If you're wondering why it's taking me so long to reach 20/20 perfect vision, it's because both of my eyes started off on 2 different healing paths. Patience is key. Additionally, coming to all of the follow up appointments and following the directions given for after surgery care is critical to the healing process. Some people see clearly a few days after surgery, others take some time. Those halos are there but they're not so obvious and blinding me at night as compared to the standard LASIK (which was also offered to me). I will provide an updated review of how my vision is after 6 months to 1 yr. So far though, my eyes are on the right path and I do see improvement. I highly recommend Dr. Newman and his staff. They are professional and never push you to make a decision. Dr. Newman has a soothing voice, so during the procedure he tells you what they're about to do before proceeding. Every single staff member I met at the office was also very kind, welcoming, and personable. I've been in contact in glasses where my whole life, I'm 25 and finally decided to look into getting Lasix. About 15 years ago my mom went to Newman Lasik Center, she is still on the receiving end of the benefits of Lasix. I was pretty nervous going into my procedure but their staff was above and beyond to making me feel comfortable. Showing me dog pictures and talking about what makes me happy right before the procedure to calm my nerves. It was a little things that made me so comfortable. I had surgery on both my eyes in 2016. Here I am in 2024 still with 20/20 vision. I have to say my experience at this office was so amazing. The staff are super helpful and explain everything in a way so that you can understand what's going on. The doctor explains what is happening during the procedure. The procedure itself is so quick. When I went in I wore coke bottle glasses...the next day, I could see everything. It was weird getting used to not having to put glasses on as soon as I woke up in the morning. Aftercare Dr. was not helpful after my wife's PRK treatment. All the care in the world before the sale, but after they have your money, they don't care about you at all- you're just a number to them. Aftercare Dr. told my wife that everyone has dry eyes, then said everyone's been complaining about dry eyes for the last 2-years because of this sugery, then said her dry eyes was because of environmental reasons. My wife can now see without glasses, but her eyes are dry and painful now after the surgery and the Dr. at this clinic doesn't care about anyone after they have your money. Well it has been close to two years since I had my Lasik surgery done by Dr Newman. So far so good. My vision... daytime, nighttime, computer reading... are great. I did a lot of research about the procedures and went to two other local Lasik centers for consultations. They all advised me that due to my prescription, they all recommended monovision lasik. In that they corrected one eye for distance and the other for near sightedness. That enabled me to go eyeglass free. The consultations are not done by Dr Newman. Actually you don't meet the dude until the very time of your surgery. The initial consult is done by his staff. The eye exam is done by an optometrist. She provided me contact lens to try out monovision. My tip to you is to be honest when doing your eye exam. I mean when you are looking at those darn eye charts, be honest and tell them what you can or can't see. Don't exaggerate because that will be the info to set your surgery prescription. Remember it's a surgery, the doctor can't put back the tissue he lasered off. A staff person will work with you on the financing. Dr Newman's pricing was a few hundred dollars cheaper. But I chose them over the others not by the price but by Dr Newman's ratings and my comfort level with the knowledge and professionalism of the staff. The surgery itself was less than 15 minutes, if that. The doctor had a great bedside manner. Positive enthusiastic attitude. Steady hands. He does talk to you before the surgery. I had no pain or vision issues after the surgery. I did follow the two prescription eye drop schedule to a T. Make sure you get your prescriptions before or quickly after the surgery. Don't confuse your prescriptions or skip on the schedule. My surgery was on a Thursday and I was back to staring at a computer and driving myself home at night on the following Monday. I suggest before you get back into solo night time driving after surgery, take a mini drive around the block in your neighborhood. I did and was fortunate not to have that issue. If you see significant halos or glares, go back to doctors office to discuss. I was told in the consultation that halos may occur and may diminish over time. The follow up exams are conducted by his staff optometrist. The staff did not remind me of the follow ups. No email, text or voicemail. Everyone was very nice, but my vision started reverting soon after surgery, when I went back for check ups, the medical assistant assured me it was just dry eyes. I believed her... until it got bad enough that I could not read road signs again. I went to my local optometrist and have been in glasses/contacts since, Newman only insures his work for a year. The entire process was a great experience. I was a little nervous about the surgery, as expected, but when I made the appointment over the phone, the person I spoke with was patient and informative about the procedure. Once I came in for the consult, the entire staff was friendly and resourceful. I never once felt pressured to go a route that I didn't want to. They were as concerned with me being comfortable as I was and it made me feel safe. Once it was time for the actual procedure (I did the custom PRK), Dr. Newman walked me through everything as I was under the light. There was never a moment that I freaked out because he literally explains everything as it happens. Also, they give up some numbing drops so you don't feel anything when it happens. The overall surgery took maybe two minutes per eye. I'll be honest, the first day was a little tough on me and I was extremely sensitive to light but the pain went away the next day. It's been two weeks since my surgery and I can 100% say I am satisfied with my decision to do lasik. I had custom wavefront Lasik performed by Dr. Newman almost 6 years ago, and I still have 20/20 vision in one eye and 20/15 in the other, so my distance vision is fantastic! And my ophthalmologist said everything looks good with my flaps at my latest visit. Overall, it was a good experience, and I'd get Lasik again, but I wish I was more prepared for the slow healing process and complications. I, unfortunately, ended up having uncommon extreme light sensitivity for months, which eventually went away, but it was a hassle because I couldn't go outside without sunglasses for months. I also dealt with severe dry eyes and had to take prescription dry eye drops for over a year, along with rewetting drops. I still use Systane daily, but my dry eyes aren't nearly as bad as they were the first year. Now, there are a few of permanent downsides to Lasik. First and foremost, your nearsighted focal point changes (which they tell you), meaning you won't be able to see things super close up as you were before Lasik. This caused me to have to start using reading glasses a couple of years sooner than I wanted, but reading glasses are inevitable. Second, you may get night halos, even if you get custom Lasik. I see night halos when I drive at night, which I've gotten used to, but initially, they were a hassle, and I wasn't comfortable driving at night. Third, your eyes may become a lot more sensitive. My eyes get irritated and red a lot easier ever since I got Lasik, even 6 years later. Fourth, you may have permanent dry eyes to some extent and may end up spending a lot of money on rewetting drops. I still have dry eyes, they're not that bad, but I do spend about $100/year on Systane drops. All-in-all, Lasik was life-changing for me, but not without its issues. Regardless, I'd get it again because the benefits of being able to see long distance with perfect vision greatly outweigh the issues I've faced with it. read more

Dr. Newman is a phenomenal Doctor! I am so happy and grateful I found this Doctor. I had very bad astigmatism in both eyes. Even with glasses, I was only seeing 20/60. Contacts wasn't an option for me as they were so irritating on my eyes. I thought about having this surgery for the past 12 yrs, i was very nervous. Finally I went for it. I did my research and made a consultation with Dr. Newman. He was so kind, knowledgeable and trustworthy. Before my surgery I had always had dry eyes most of my adult life. Had my Lasiks done here in 2019. Since then, I don't regret my decision. Dr. Newman and the staff were very nice. After the procedure, I had dry eyes and they offered a check up to ensure my eyes were still ok, and they advised that I need to drink more water. They were not wrong. My vision improves the with more adequate fluid intake. I still have 20/20 vision. I may have to use eye drops every morning when I wake up, but dry eyes are one of the common side effects of this procedure, and each procedures have their risks. If you're thinking about LASIK, I absolutely recommend it. And if you're in the Sacramento area, look no further, this is where you want to be. I went to a few different locations to get a consultation and ultimately went with NEWMAN LASIK not just because it was the most affordable, but because their staff were the most friendly, knowledgable, and non-bias. I felt I received the most information on all the surgery type options available to me, and I also felt they had my best interests in mind. Some of the other locations were pretty convincing with new technology options, but they omitted the longer healing times with those newer bladeless machines, including higher risk. My consultation went smoothly, the surgery was quick and painless, and my recovery was just as expected. I was provided some anxiety medication to help keep the nerves down before the surgery. The staff communicated to me throughout the entire procedure with what to expect, including what I would feel, see, and smell. The entire procedure took about 7 minutes total (honestly maybe faster). I was able to drive home without my glasses! I went home and rested my eyes for about 2 hours and was already seeing improvements in my vision. The following day I could see perfectly. They had schedules a post-op appt for the next day, the next week, the next month, then 6months, etc... I still have a 9month and 1yr post op, but no issues at this point. I initially complained about some haloing in the evening, slight dryness, blurred near sightedness, vision going in and out, and one eye seeing worse than the other, and they assured me that all of these were normal and would correct overtime. Sure enough all those went away around the 2-3 month mark. They also notified me that women may experience changes in their vision in 10+ years with hormone changes, pregnancy, and just general aging. And even still I would consider this 1000000% worth it. I would do it again in a heartbeat. They also accept FSAs which covered nearly most of the cost for me so I didn't feel like I spent thousands of dollars in one sitting. read more
