I visited the bay front store and had a thoroughly enjoyable visit. The staff member was very friendly, helpful, and professional. I told her what I was looking for and she directed me right to the candle I wanted. I purchased the "At The Beach" candle in the next to largest size. It is so beautiful and has a light fruity scent. There is sand at the bottom and shells of various sizes rest on the sand. Lots of bubbles throughout the blue gel make it extra pretty. I love this candle so much that I am going back tomorrow to buy another one as a gift for a friend. read more

I was visiting Oregon for the first time with my fiance from Las Vegas for an Oregon State vs Tulane baseball game. We drove to Newport for a quick overnight trip. I walked into the bayfront store on Saturday to buy some candles and see what else was for sale since I love these types of things. We walked in and the older lady who was working there said to me, "We are only open if you are going to buy something." Then she basically showed us the door before I could even speak to her. I found her attitude to be extremely uninviting and rude. YES, I would have bought a lot in your store to bring back to Las Vegas, but not with that dismissive and condescending attitude you had with me after I just stepped foot in the door. I would expect better customer service from a small business like this. read more

I visited this store during summer of 2021 and FELL IN LOVE with the Thin Blue Line and Redwood Cedar scents! OMG it was like I found my soulmate in a candle. So I bought them from the wonderful staff there and took them hom to California. However, a year or so later when I ordered online, the Thin Blue Line candle fragrance I received was drastically different. Not what I wanted at all! It smelled more like berries and not like the earthy, woodsy scent from before. I even kept a little of my original to hold on to that magnificent fragrance. Well, I figured I'd try the Redwood Cedar again and ordered 2 medium sized candles. But when I got them (Christmas 2024) was disappointed again because the fragrance had changed quite a bit. These smelled too soapy and not that deep earthy woodsy scent I crave. (One of the reasons I visit the Oregon Coast!) I called the store and spoke to a nice clerk who said the person/company that manages the scents had changed. Ugh! It doesn't specify that anywhere on the website. Big wake up call for me. Scents change. Best thing for me is to get back to the store and smell in person. Otherwise, great staff, location, candle quality, online ordering is good, but fragrance consistency is questionable. read more

Came through this store while on a lunch stop through Newport. I'm a big fan of candles (I mean, whoooo isn't) so we had to check them out! I was surprised to find that most of the candles here are like jelly. Like, the texture is a jelly instead of a hard wax candle... It's pretty interesting. Most of the scents are pretty good and they sell other sorts of gifts here, too. We ended up buying a wine accessory for a family member. The shop owner was super nice. She made conversation with us at the register (as most people should) but was super personable and was asking us about our son's due date, name, etc. and was sharing her experiences with her son as well. The thing that attracted me to the store was the window displaying cute wine signs.. I walk in and was immediately greeted. Looking around there are cute/pretty/funny decor for the house. Even a "man cave" section! There is a large variety of smells for the candles that are beautifully jarred in clear jars (candles are colored).There is wine candles in a wine glass.. there is even a Christmas section! I finally found this place after growing up in Oregon. I wasn't really paying attention to the nice lady behind the counter and I apologize! The candle I chose has the most fragrant, longest lasting scent ever!!! I use candle warmers and when typical candles loose their scent I make fire starters. I don't know if I will ever have wax to use again! When I went online and found out they refil/fill jars, bottles, vessels and such, I was so excited. Good thing my FIL lives in the area!!!! Love these awesome gel candles! They are beautiful and smell so wonderful! I used to visit the Florence, Oregon location each year on vacation, but that location has unfortunately closed. I didn't make it to Newport this summer, so I ordered candles to be shipped to me in Colorado instead. They make excellent gifts! One was broken in shipping, even though they were packed and wrapped very well...a middle candle was squeezed and smashed. I contacted customer service and they sent out a replacement quickly. I was so excited to try these candles as the store in Newport Bay smelled so delicious when we Walked in we selected our candle and were instructed on how to burn it correctly and that it would burn for up to 300 hours we followed the directions the candle not only did not burn for 300 hours it turned black lots of black smoke and even turned my wall black I was able to clean my wall but am highly disturbed that I was breathing this in so sad to say I cannot give a positive review and will not burn these candles again. read more

Holy smokes, this place has some sweet gel products to light anyone's fire. I never thought I'd get so excited over candles ever, and yet I walked out of Newport Bay Candle Co. with 4 awesome fragrances to rotate through my place as I see fit. This place is a pinnacle of awesome service. The sales guy was knowledgeable and informed about their product line, what each fragrance was made of, how they were made, burn times and the distance they "throw" their scents. And yet he wasn't pushy in the least. I left with a lilac for the general house in spring and summer and gingerbread for fall and winter. For my "dreamy/gooey eyed girl" selection I picked one called "My Boyfriend's Shirt" that is scented with masculine cologne from Abercrombie/Hollister. And for the "Haha, that's Awesome!" selection I got one called "Hippie Chick" that smells like.... I kid you not... Powell's Books and Music Millennium in Portland, Oregon. The set me back around 10 bucks a pop and will each burn for 120+ hours. They can be ordered online as well, in case I don't get back to the coast to replace them before they burn away completely. read more

I've debated posting this for a long time because I assumed that I had caused the fire somehow but for the health and safety of others I think it's important to at least report it. I bought two candles here about six months ago and about a month after buying them I lit the candle I kept in my bathroom and continued my business in the bathroom for a few minutes. The candle burning fine. I then went back to my room and luckily my boyfriend walked by the bathroom a minute later and started screaming fire. I ran in, the entire candle was engulfed in flames. All of the gel had caught on fire in a big way. Me and my boyfriend watched the glass shatter in front of our eyes as gel that was on fire began seeping all over my counter. I didn't even think about anything other than keeping the fire contained so I grabbed the hot glass that was still intact on the base of what was left of the jar and threw it in the sink. Getting it there and putting water all over it did put it out but I got horrible burns all over my hand leaving me with blisters all over. I have had many types of candles in my bathroom over the years and never had issues like this. I remove any candles from the bathroom when I clean because I've always known that cleaning products can be flammable so the candle was never exposed to any flammable chemicals in my home. It was out of nowhere. If my boyfriend hadn't walked past my bathroom at that exact moment then the fire probably would've reached the hair products that are about a foot away and then maybe the towels next to those. I would NEVER buy these candles. For months I told myself that I must've caused this in some way and I would HATE to give a review on a small company like this when it wasn't their fault. But one of my friends just came home with a candle from this store and she has little kids and I told her what happened with my candle and she told me I need to review because if she had seen that review then she would've thought twice before spending $22 on a candle that could be flammable. Sorry Newport candle company but the only possible thing that could've contaminated my candle was dust and only a months worth at that. The candles didn't really cause any scent the few times I burned it before this event but that doesn't really matter anyway since it almost lit my bathroom on fire. read more

If you need candles, this is the place! This is the factory location, where they are all made... Also the lab, where the new fragrances are developed. The owner is a real nice woman. She will answer any questions you have.... And with a description of your fragrance likes/dislikes will point you to the one that will work best for you. These candles are made with care and are gel type ... So they will last longer and the aroma will be stronger-longer than a regular wax type... Yeah, this place is candle heaven!! The candles are kind of pricey considering they are candles but it is totally worth it!! They actually produce a scent, which is more than can be said about most candles. I got Hippie Chick and Oregon Rain. When I burn Hippie Chick it takes me back to a place you don't want to know!! Or maybe you do :) I have yet to burn Oregon Rain. I have been saving it for a special occasion! I also bought At the Beach as a gift. I was literally in a candle abyss. For those of you that love Candles, this is the place. Since finding this place it's the only place that I will buy Candles from. Every time I go to the beach the Candle Store is a must visit. I just love the Jasmine Rain fragrance, in fact everytime I shop I almost buy them ALL out. Rather selfish of myself but I just can't help it. I have been at the stores in Lincoln City (which has since closed-Boo-Hoo) and Depoe Bay and the water front in Newport. Wherever they go I shall follow if feasible and it's also a great excuse to head to the beautiful Oregon Coast. I've had many flavors and loved each and every one but of course there are always some that capture your heart more than others. My family came into the store today looking for beach souvenirs for our children. We found necklaces tagged for $7.99 each. We brought two to the register. The woman charged us $9.99 each and refused to honor the price on the tags despite a table full of them all priced $7.99! We were not only upset she would not honor the price listed but would not return them once our girls paid because of the no return policy! We had not even left the store for 3 minutes! We purchased candles that were in wine glasses on August 31,2012...when I got home and unwrapped them from the bag the gel had slide sideways and are a mess. Kendall didn't apparently know how to package them. What a waste of money! read more
