Our go to golf course since it's nearby. It's not the prettiest nor greenest, but so many good memories here with the guys. We ain't no duffer, but they are times when we have shanks or bad hits. I got a birdie here once actually, but no one recorded it, god damn! Lol. We come in the morning to the range to practice our hits and try out our clubs before hitting the course. Staff here is super chill and it's never a bad time. Go early so you can reserve a golf cart because that shit goes out quit and I hate walking the whole course, especially when it's hot and sunny. Bring some sunblock, it's a must. You also can't forget the bar/snack area! We be stacking up with those Truly's seltzers. There's a game we play where that if you have the most points, you gotta shotgun the whole can. Don't yack though or at least be lowkey about it in the restroom. read more

Avoid this place. Incredibly rude and entitled staff. Horribly disorganized. I would give this place zero stars if I could. The staff here is shockingly unprofessional. After paying for a round, they wouldn't even give us a receipt. It got worse from there: they double-booked our tee time, and when we politely let the other group go first to resolve the confusion, the staff blamed us for the delay. We were constantly harassed, yelled at, and threatened with being kicked off the course for being slow, entirely because of their 10-minute scheduling mistake. The tone they used was immature and entitled. To make matters worse, the course is in poor condition and you have to tee off on old, worn-out mats. The greatest course ever that's close in the Newport Beach area to the public. Everyone's always friendly. Great crowds and people always having a blast at the pizza restaurant and bar. Recommend to any beginners getting into golf as most are par 3s and good even for advanced players that want to improve certain shots. read more

The front nine is nothing but dirt and weeds. They don't provide rubber tees for their mats that are on cement slabs, nor can you sink a tee in dirt that's as hard as rocks. $30 to walk for 9 holes...a true rip off! read more

This course is a staple for anyone who lives in the Newport Mesa area. Is it Pelican Hill? No. But does it cost what Pelican Hill costs? Also no. The course is fun and if you need a quick fix, you can crank the front 9 in easily less than 2 hours. The back 9 offers a few more lengthy fairways. Depending on the crowd, you can usually ask the guys to play the back 9 instead of the front if you prefer it and don't have time for all 18. All the guys that work in the pro shop and at the check in are always so sweet. They also do their best to help advise on when carts are coming in or any other questions you might have. This is a great course for group events, having fun, and for any one who is a beginner to advanced. Most people are there to just play golf and have some fun and I appreciate that out of the tons of times i've played here, i have encountered maybe 2 people who were rude or trying to play through (my friends and i can keep the pace just fine). The driving range is also great and is big enough that even when it is really busy, you can usually get a spot right away or with a very short wait. I'm sure original pizza has its own yelp, but NBGC gets a million extra points for this place. And i'll include the snack window in that comment as well. Great drinks, great food, you can get things to go easily to take to the course, and if you want to watch sports, there are a LOT of tv's. If you don't like the mats aka NBGC, you probably aren't fun to golf with and you shouldn't go there. read more

This is the one of the worst golf courses I have ever played. The course remains in HORRIBLE condition after years and years. The driving range is a great facility and the restaurant I've heard has good food options but haven't tried it. But this review is mainly for the course. It's also 30 dollars plus 12 dollars per person for a cart so if you are playing with a group you are paying a lot more money for a horrible course. Easy parking, nice calm course to walk or ride. Great for practicing short game some holes you have to use mats not fun but others are decent for driving off grass. Greens are always in good shape! Variety of levels of players so pace can be slow when busy but what course isn't busy these days! Golf pro shop is fantastic and restaurant bar is packed with tv's food and good bartenders! Gotta know what you're getting into here...this place straight up sucks. It's not maintained well. you're hitting off of mats. You have to literally cross oncoming traffic to get to the holes 3 & on. Someone from the course approached us to hurry up when no one was behind us. He did this on hole 9 when we were only playing 9 lol. The bar was good, but you can't really mess up alcohol. I came here recently to practice at the driving range. It was early and only a couple of people mid week which was very nice. The prices are reasonable and the location is convenient close to the airport and freeways. I would highly recommend this place. read more

How do you get ahold of an owner or get ahold of the highest manager they have running the golf course? I loved this place and came out at minimum 4 to 5 days a week. Idk what the curly hair guy with the mustache that works the range problem is but dude is the most unprofessional guy they have and he walks around like he has a chip on his shoulder. Zero personality and all around not a people person. We had an issue to where he told me I can't go back anymore and I've emailed the website email it has under "Contact Us" but have yet to receive any kind of response. So if someone can tell me who I can speak to I'd like to speak to someone because you don't treat customers the way that guy does and take money right after they paid and then told your kicked out before even hitting a ball and keep the money. You can't beat 6:30 AM tee off from the green carpet with your own rubber tee protruding from the small hole made just for your driving pleasure and hundreds of practice balls scattered all over the fairways and everywhere you hit the first shot of the round and having to look for the same colored white golf ball that you just got from the PGA golf pro-shop paying too much for three little round balls and not finding it. Nevertheless you won't find any better priced private golf courses in Orange County anywhere bar none. The greens are kept pretty clean except for depressed area where the wet mud is waiting to destroy your brand new Foot Joy leather white golf shoes costing you a good fortune! The flight path of airplanes taking off the Santa Ana John Wayne Airport is right above your head blasting out of the runway with near vertical takeoff and noise and jet fume can only hurry you along but you cannot always have it both ways: Cheap and Loud or Insanely expensive and Silent Ambience overlooking the Pacific Ocean like Pelican Hills Public Golf Course! I am definitely not good enough to drop $350 for around of golf when I can book 18 short course for $18 or less. I don't mind that I have to wear ear plugs and wear weather proof shoes and rubber socks. I keep asking the proshop unprofessional pros if they can buy an air compressor for blowing the wet grass and muds off my Foot Joy and socks and they always laugh! I don't know if they will start a Tip Jar to start raising some money for several much needed improvements such as Air Blower, bathroom upgrades, shoe cleaners, grass tee boxes, etc. I ain't complaining just suggesting and not get laughed at every weekend. read more

Cheap greens fees, easily walkable, cheap driving range are the positives.... No tee boxes with grass, it's just mats over a concrete patch. Virtually no fairways to speak of just tee boxes and greens, range balls scattered all over the course, greens aren't anything to write home about, they work. Played 3 holes and went somewhere else. Fun course, had a great time. However encountered a disrespectful worker. I was putting with my buddy waiting to tee off with another duo. They had not hit yet, and he walked out of his little office and said "if you guys don't go tee off right now, you're going to have to chip the first hole." Which normally I would have been fine with, but his tone of voice, and a prior interaction about hitting a bucket of range balls made me think he did not have good intentions. It messed with my head for the entire first 9 and I hit awful while I normally hit very well. I was bamboozled by this golf courses website. For starters, I thought this was a normal 18 hole- golf cart course. What it really is, is an easy walking course. The only clubs I used were putter for the greens, pitching wedge to tee off mostly and a 9 or 8 iron on longer holes. I booked two tee times, 1 for 1:30 and another for 1:40 for my second party each party. I book like this to allow ample time and to not have anyone on my ass while playing. But as you can see in my picture this is not the case. I was in line waiting to check in and the person in front of me while waiting asked what my tee time was and I said 1:30 and 1:40 Then the gentlemen replied and said his tee time was at 1:40. How is this possible? I booked my two reservations online and yet another person was able to book the same time as me? Jesus get your booking straighten out to prevent a back log. Then at hole 1 The guys in my picture who were last in line their tee time was at 1:20 before mine. They said they were late because they were waiting for a golf cart which were not available. Crazy and unorganized, not returning. Go to a different real 18 hole course. 2 stars because the driving range is nice and decent. read more

I never been to a golf course where it legitimately felt like the people working there don't want you to be there. I've been coming here for quite a while because it's a fine course for playing a casual round as it's not too expensive. Since it's not that expensive, I obviously don't expect the course to be perfect. I had an employee, who I guess was off the clock, pull up behind me on the course and literally yell at my partner and I for "Driving on the Tee-box." Our cart wasn't even moving and we weren't on the tee-box. I've never been yelled at by an employee anywhere. Super unprofessional. Not everyone is an expert golfer. No one is trying to destroy the course. (They do a fine job of keeping the course in poor condition anyways). I think the employees here could use some serious service training. I would rate 1-star if it wasn't so cheap to play. EDIT: since I have no way to reply to the owners response.... It was not me that employees talked to after our round. I was NOT present for remarks made between a member of my group and employees (I had to use the restroom) and when I got back to the starting area I found employee and his friends harassing my friend. I can't comment on the "under the breath" remarks, but I can say he was certainly entitled to be upset and annoyed by the conduct of your course's staff. I AM the one who was scolded for having my cart near the tee-box. I wasn't trying to drive on the tee-box, and if I made a mistake, there are so many better ways to approach this situation other than trying to chastise and embarrass your customers (especially when the cart wasn't even moving during the confrontation). I certainly drove around the tee-box, especially after "getting in trouble." Hope you guys improve on how to approach situations like this going into the future. Edit 2: FYI, your employee and his friends were literally calling us R*tards. So if it's inappropriate for my friend to make snarky remarks, it is certainly inappropriate for staff and those affiliated with staff to be calling people this word AT ALL! read more

Doesn't look like much when you drive pass it. The range is clean and well kept. I only come here because my instructor prefers to give lessons here. Btw, if you're looking for a great golf instructor for lessons, Kevin Shimada is an amazing instructor. The only reason why I'm giving this golf course a 4-star is because of him. He's precise, experienced, nice, patient and easy to practice with. Borderline Irvine/Newport Beach, so you get a mixture of people. So far the employees are nice and the overall facility is in good shape. The guests on the other hand, quite interesting. You'll see families with their little ones....cute, and the hardcore golfers that keeps it to themselves and demands a cart ASAP! Newport Beach Golf Course is an alright golf course. Most of the tee boxes are the range mats. I personally prefer to tee off grass because I want to be able to tee up my ball where ever feels good for me rather than where the mat happens to have the hole (if the mat has it) for the rubber tee but that's me. The fairways are hit or miss sometimes you are hitting out of grass and others you are hitting out of dirt. I didn't really have any issues with the greens. Overall, this golf course is meh and wouldn't be my first choice when I want to play golf. read more

This course is a short, par-59 course where you hit off of mats for everything except for the par 4s. I have never experienced any delays, but I always play in the morning. I don't see the issue with hitting mats for par 3s - you hit off mats at almost every other driving range in the area. No reason to dock a star there. Staff is friendly. I've heard good things about Steve at the pro shop. Golf is pretty inexpensive to walk. All in all, it's a great place to play especially if you're learning golf. Each hole will help you with different parts of your game. Don't trip over the people who bomb-review expecting Pelican Hill. For what it is, I think it's worth it. read more

The back nine was a lot better than the front except for the last whole that had dirt that was back dragged across the fairway and of course that's were my ball wanted to land. People were friendly and we had great conversations with other players. If you come to this course I hope you have a great experience like we did but don't expect to much from this course. It's a quick play executive course with one sand trap, no water obstacles to speak of and your mostly teeing off mats. This is a great course comprising of mostly Par 3 holes. It's small and perfect for those who want to practice their irons. I played with a 7 iron all day. $28 for a Sunday morning game, not including a cart. The grounds are god-aweful but the greens are in decent shape. Play can be a little slow as most people walk so it takes a bit longer. I was with a party of 4 and we finished 18 holes in about 4 hours. read more

Course is pretty small, so expect a lot of Par 3s and Par 4s. No Par 5s so its a pretty fast course to complete all 18 holes. Its about ~$25 per player on a Saturday at 130pm, which is great price! Not the most challenging course, with only one hole with an obvious water hazard. Driving range was great and well maintained. For 103 balls its about $13 on the driving range. Some things I wasn't a huge fan of how most of the tees start off with mats, and some of the mats were of different quality. Not the best maintained course I've been to, but considering this is a public course at that low of a fee, its not bad at all. Also there are a TON of stray golf balls to pick up. If you're low on golf balls you will find a goldmine at this course. read more
