*****Perfect***** My…read moreyoungest is an avid swimmer in the pool and in the ocean. She swims and body surfs. She already had fins and knows the Newport and Laguna waters well. She even has done Laguna and Crystal Cove Junior Guards. However, she just wouldn't try surfing with me. So, I enrolled her in a private lesson. I spoke to Amy on the phone and she understood. She recommended Jorge because he has kids of his own. Jorge was great. Right away she hopped up and rode wave after wave. He was proactive at identifying good waves and giving her a slight push with verbal instructions. Afterwards, she kept asking me for a board and to go back surfing.. Even if you are a great surfer, there are many advantages of getting a lesson for your child. They have wet suits and giant foam boards. This saves money instead of going out and spending two or three hundred when your kid might not even like it. Using a larger board is the way to go and it eliminates the frustrations of learning on a shorter board. Jorge was great. He was proactive, engaging, and well versed with kids. I ended up buying a used foam board for her to practice more on. As she progresses, she can get a regular board This is a great place to take a lesson. Open communication and the follow-through makes me a fan and then some! Don't just go to the beach and take selfies to post. That behavior ruins the beach and it's a stupid way to live a fake life. Take a lesson and get in the water. Enjoy the ocean for all it has and have someone else take real pictures of you enjoying it! A nickel says you will have a blast Or, give your kids a great experience they will always remember. They make it easy here!

Instead, he arrived with one that had a broken leash and spent 90% of the time going back to shore, leaving me without instruction. This was beyond frustrating and completely unprofessional. To make matters worse, the merchant promised to take pictures during the session for two hours. She showed up late, despite the sky being clear and bright 30 minutes before the lesson was set to start. In the end, she only took photos for half an hour and never sent them to me despite my constant reminders. This experience was a total disappointment and an absolute waste of time and money. I would never recommend this service to anyone. The merchant was also being racist, and accusatory. I have the recording if anyone is interested. Overall, just stay away to keep your insanity. Many other surf schools in Huntington and I trust there are many other non racist people.

I've sent multiple messages asking for an update and have received no clear response or information about my refund. This has been a very poorly managed and disappointing experience. At this point, I'm actually glad my daughter didn't attend. I would not recommend this surf school based on how this situation has been handled. I am still waiting for my $675 refund and confirmation that it has been processed.

I came back to Huntington Beach 2 weeks later with my boys and booked private lessons for all 3 of us per recommedation from the owners. They matched the instructors with each of us very well. Mine was 6'3" and could easily handle holding my board and helping me figure it out. My 10 yr old instructor had him surfing within 45min on day 1. The young lady instructing my 7yr old adjusted board, and had him up and surfing on day 2. At 56, with 3 knee injuries, including a torn meniscus, was able to stand up finally on day 3, 4 times, in some frothy (yet not too big) waves. The beach area is an ideal learning platform as it has no rocks, coral, or other obstructions underwater except lots of hard packed sand. In the end we had a special father & sons memory of learning to surf together. We were all successful. We had an amazing time, and the staff could not have been more helpful, encouraging, and supportive. I highly recommend private lessons, because I feel like the ROI is 90+% with private lessons, and about 45-55% with group lessons. IMO group lessons can be good later on as refresher.

Another thing worth mentioning is that their rates are much more affordable compared to most places in the area, especially considering how popular the location is being right near The CAMP. My 10-year-old son absolutely loved this surf camp! He went in with high expectations and came home each day even more excited to go back. By the end of the week, we saw a noticeable boost in his confidence--not just in the water, but overall. The staff was incredible--friendly, attentive, and clearly experienced with kids. One of the biggest things that gave us peace of mind was the staff-to-student ratio. It really showed in the level of attention he received, both in terms of safety and skill-building. We were also impressed with how well the camp creates a safe environment. From clear communication to structured routines, it was obvious that safety was a top priority. As parents, that level of care made all the difference. We couldn't be happier with the experience. Just had the sickest time at Newport Surf Camp and it was totally gnarly!!! The instructors were all super chill and totally knew their stuff. They gave us all the lowdown on how to catch sick waves and helped us improve our skills on the board. We spent all day carving up the waves and the instructors were right there with us, showing us how to do some serious shredding. Everyone was stoked to be there and we all had a blast together. The instructors were all super friendly and we all bonded over our love of surfing. Overall, I gotta say that Newport Surf Camp is the real deal. My instructor was knowledgeable, patient, and encouraging, which made me feel confident and excited to get into the water. My instructor, Jonny Smith, (who is obviously in the water ALL THE TIME given how fricking tan he is!) was able to break down each step in a clear and concise way, which made it easy for me to understand and put into practice. Jonny was there every step of the way, helping me to find the best waves and giving me tips on how to improve my technique As a beginner. They were extremely patient and supportive, which made me feel at ease in the water. The location was also perfect. Overall, I had a fantastic time with Newport Surf Camp and I highly recommend it to anyone who wants to learn to surf or improve their skills. I sent my son who is relatively new to surfing, I was a little nervous about him attending a camp, but the instructors and staff made me feel at ease right from the start. The instructors were all highly experienced and passionate about surfing, which made for a great learning environment. What really stood out to me, though, was the overall vibe of the camp. My 12 yr old son and his buddy wanted some fun beach time to surf without a lot of restrictions. Both boys loved the first week and their surfer dude instructor Jack. They were able to catch waves on their own when they wanted or Jack would give them a perfect push onto a wave. Every day I picked them up they were incredibly happy and excited to sign up for a 2nd week with instructor Antony who was terrfic. Now they are even considering a third week of surfing before summer ends. And the "swag bag" of floating sunglasses, hats & t-shirt was loved! We'll be back next year! read more

This lesson gave me enough confidence and skill to go surfing on my own. All the people were very kind and welcoming. The owner, Johnny, helped choose a wet suit and board to start out my lesson. The instructor, Bella, was very encouraging with much knowledgable insight. This made learning to surf light and enjoyable. The lesson included mostly hands on learning with trial and error, rather than just talking, let us make the most out of our two hour session. From start to finish this week with Newport Surf Camp has been an exceptional experience for all 4 of my kids. The younger two; ages 8 and 13 loved surf camp and were up on the board within a day. The instructors are skilled and make learning so much fun. My older two took private lessons with Levi and had just as great an experience. Top Notch!!! We signed up for a 2 hour private for my husband, 15 year old daughter and 14 year old son and it was amazing. The instructor was great and so helpful and my family absolutely enjoyed it. Then my son did the 3 day (half day) surf camp. He had the best time and can't wait to do it again next summer since we are in Atlanta so hoping to get back next year. read more

He has stopped responding to emails. If you are looking for a reliable surf school that honors its refund policy when they cancel on you, look elsewhere. Unprofessional and dishonest management.

We emailed to request a lesson for my two kids (15 & 14) and the response was very quick. They scheduled a 2 hour lesson for the next day with Josiah. He was fantastic. He had both the kids up and surfing very quick. I highly recommend them. They were very easy to plan and work with!

Jim is gone for 6 years, Kevin is the…read morehead coach for swimming (2016-2022), he is good at it and a great cheerleader to get kids pumped for meets, but his hands are tied by Ross Sinclair the Aquatic director. Ross doesn't care about his swim team, only water polo, so if you are on the swim team, you are 3rd class. When pool closed in 2021, he found a place for WP to practice but not ST- go run on the beach. Team shrank during pandemic, lot of apathy, lost ST to Nova, and others. Not likely that Ross will be replaced since his HS WP team is a winner, but he is a one trick pony. We were there for 6 years and I wouldn't know Ross if he knocked on my front door. Our current team isn't like that, there are no queens or princes there. Remember, the higher your pedestal, the farther is your fall from grace. Ross has built himself a pretty high one. A problem with the old reviews is they don't distinguish between NBS- a swim team, the special Jr. Guard training offered in the Spring, and City of NB swim lessons run by NBFD- which runs NB lifeguards. Nothing is affiliated with NB Jr. Guards here- the test is at CdMHS. If you just want summer lessons (run by the NBFD), or some swimming for your child under 8, it is good. Kevin is really a great guy and family friendly, I would not expect anything to change with a new facility, probably get worse. Too bad, Olympian Aaron Peirsol swam on the NHHS team, so it has a good history, if anyone cared. I'm not aware of any WP Olympians from NHHS. There is a good program for Jr. Guard swim practice but it is short term, lots of kids swimming laps to get fast enough to pass the test. But for long term JO training, not so great. It's too bad, I really like Kevin, and the pool is very convenient for us, but we went to another team when the team abandoned us. Coach Jim, gone. Coach Lexie, gone. Coach Stephanie, gone. Us, gone.

They…read moredropped it off where I parked, and were even there early (8:50 on a Sunday morning when they were supposed to be there at 9). They even arrived early to pick it up! Everyone I talked to was extremely nice. This dropoff/pickup is so much easier than trying to rent, pack it up, bring it out, pack it back up, and bring it back (especially when you're coming from an hour away!). I'll definitely be using this service again!

I was nervous about finding the instructor on the beach but the directions given to me were so clear that I was able to locate them with no problem! The instructor was so kind and patient to answer all of my questions (even ones regarding sharks). The lesson included instructions about the ocean, surf safety, and surf etiquette. I really appreciate the fact that the instructor would stay in the water helping my son and others as they tried to catch waves. My son was so thrilled about the entire experience; he was smiling from ear-to-ear. The most exciting part was being able to get several pictures of him surfing. I highly recommend yougosurf!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
