This surf camp is the epitome of California Dreamin'! Such a cool vibe! My 8yr old son and my 16yr old daughter attended their 5 day summer camp this week and they both loved it! The instructors were absolutely wonderful and to those parents who worry about water safety, they have so many instructors actively monitoring in the water, specially with the younger groups. My son's instructor was absolutely brilliant with him. She was so engaged and made every day a fun experience for him. They played tons of games with the kids and encouraged them to ride the waves as often as possible while still keeping it fun and chill. I love that their location is away from the crowded section of Newport Beach. They're on 28th street which was totally secluded in the mornings. This made it easy for drop off and pick up. I loved watching all the kids go from newbies to feeling confident enough to ride the waves. This was a fantastic experience for our whole family and we'll definitely be back next year! read more

This is our second year enrolling my sons in this surf camp for the summer and they had a blast! Surfing in the morning (before the blackball flag), then free play in the afternoons with friends on the beach. They are supervised to play beach games, dig in the sand, find crabs, and boogie board! The Newport Surf Camp's mini classes are awesome. The surf instructor I had was Rilliey and she was a great surf instructor and she really got me more interested in surfing. She taught me all the basics about surfing and gave me many great tips that I will always keep in mind when surfing. Rilliey taught me tips on how to spot waves in the distance and when the best times to go surfing are for a better experience. All in all, the surf lesson is great and Rilliey did an awesome job at teaching me how to surf. I would definitely go back for more surf lessons. read more

I took two 6 week sessions of the 'grownup surf camp' aka 'Never 2 Late" and I would give Johnny and his crew of coaches six stars if I could! I feel so lucky to have had the opportunity to be in these classes. We started at the very beginning, practicing our position on the board and popping up on on the sand. From the first day they helped push us into waves and stand up. By the end of the six week session, we were catching our own waves and having a blast the entire time! Johnny and his coaches impart so much knowledge about how to be a surfer including surf etiquette and how to read waves, not to mention sharing the stoke! Our girls (9 & 11) and three of their friends did private lessons for a couple months and it was fantastic. Jonny was great working with the kids. We met up every Saturday and Jonny started with the basics, teaching them to pop up on the board. He taught them balance, footwork, and showed them how to read the waves. The first day all five of the kids caught waves which made them so happy. Jonny was patient, friendly, and made it fun for them. As parents, we got some great photos and were happy to find a sport they could all do together. I'd highly recommend signing up for surf camp or private lessons. The waves at 28th street are perfect for beginners or intermediate surfers. Our girls are dying to get back on their boards. Thanks Jonny for a fabulous time. read more

DO NOT ENTER YOUR KIDS INTO the NEWPORT BEACH SURF CAMP. I was out of town and my kiddos went to this camp. My 8yo daughter - who has never had a sunburn in her life - came back with her FACE BLISTERED from the burn. And my 7yo has cuts up and down her body from wetsuit rashes. On her neck, on her side. And they did NOTHING about it. Nothing to help her either. When I asked the owner and instructor about what happened the response was "It's not my responsibility" Kids from the day before were hit with the surfboards, in the head and in the eye and didn't return. I just finished their adult "never too late" class and it was so fun. The instructors were friendly, knowledgeable, and helpful. They helped us start from the most basic and by the end of the 6 classes were helping us pick waves and start to catch them on our own but still there for an extra push if needed. My 6 year old son loved every minute! I would say it's definitely one of the best surf camps in the area. The location was great, the staff was super friendly and helpful and the owner was present all the time answering any questions you might have. They provide wet suits for the kids and have colored rash guards to know what group each child is in so no one gets lost. I was super impressed. My son was up on a board within 30 minutes in the first day. My recommendations: 1) parking can be hard so give yourself some extra time in the mornings. 2) stay and take a couple pics. 3) Try to have your child do their "business" (i.e. Potty) before arriving. The walk to the bathroom is far and pealing off a soaking wetsuit is hard! 4) Do the half day for younger ones. I did the full day and my son LOVED it but it was a lot of sun (8-3) I would rather have done 2 weeks of 1/2 day - but my son would have rather done full day. If he hadn't of done full day he would have been totally fine with 1/2 day. read more
