Matt was truly outstanding in his understanding, compassion, sensitivity and efficiency in helping us through this process. We had a rather complicated situation as our 94 yr old aunt passed away in late December, 2022 and we had no direct family members in town to understand and coordinate the process and service. He worked closely with us over the phone, as well as with our in town home care friend to make everything happen seamlessly. He was very flexible in setting up, coordinating and timing our celebration. Also, our situation involved the re-welcoming of a previously unknown family member to the service and back into the family. He showed outstanding compassion and sensitivity in his handling of the service and our time on site to allow for that wonderful new meeting to take place without any time pressures. It was a memorable family moment that his awareness helped happen wonderfully!! Also, given the timing (winter) and non-Ames residences, he was very flexible in coordinating a requested June burial and grave side service timing too! Used "Heart and Soul" as a funeral song for a 94-year-old! Are you kidding me????…read more Like most Funeral Homes, these guys are way behind the times and do not use today's technologies to easily work with families. For example, as as graphic designer myself, I had already prepared a PowerPoint slide presentation for my Uncle's funeral. It had a specific order, special hymn music and timing. When I asked the Jody, the owner of the Funeral Home about it, their response was that they can't use PowerPoint. Are you kidding me? Every PC and MAC in America can run PowerPoint!!! Instead, he said they would pull the photos from my slides and make their own, using their software. No way! I did not want to trust them with this. Instead, I suggested that I create a jpeg from each slide (so the layout and order would be exact) and they could simply import those photos into their software. Olivia, who I spoke to for this process was super kind and seemed to totally understand what I was wanting. She also asked me what songs I wanted and I provided her with the specific hymns that my Uncle loved. I followed up with her and she said that it all turned out great..the songs were all in place, etc. I guess my mistake was taking her word for it. Because on the day of the funeral, we show up and they had used their cheesy software (complete with a stupid treasure-chest themed opening) and only included ONE of our Hymns (Amazing Grace)...and that was the last song. Instead they had some ridiculous elevator-music...including "Heart and Soul"---That simple piano song from our childhood and from the movie "Big". Unbelievable. On top of that, the photos were all condensed to fit their software/screen format. So...everyone in the photos had long, skinny faces. Totally looked like a 10-year-old did it. I have no way of proving it, but I almost suspect that the work that Olivia did was not used, and instead, Jody thought his way was better. Very arrogant. So...do NOT trust Anderson to do anything with class or taste. Just sayin'.

When Dad passed away, we called Jamison-Schmitz Funeral Home in Oelwein, IA. We had done some preliminary planning with them and they were so helpful and knowledgeable in completing Dad's service. In December, 2010 they had helped us with Mom's service as well. At a very difficult time, Paul and staff were kind, caring and very professional. They took care of all the details from getting flowers taken to share with nursing facility after the service to putting together a lovely memory CD with pictures that played during the viewing. They periodically are sending us bereavement information which we appreciate. We are grateful for Paul and the staff at Jamison-Schmitz.
