Came by for dinner the other night and it was a fantastic experience. Made a same day reservation and my table was ready upon arrival. Next Door seems to be affiliated with the Imperial restaurant next door. Both restaurants are featured in the Michelin guide with Next Door being Czech cuisine with a modern French influence. Started off with a fresh orange juice and it was tasty. For my appetizer, opted for the foie gras and it was excellent. The foie gras was seared to perfection and served with some blood sausage, peas, and mushrooms. Excellent. Moved on to the wild duck breast wrapped in a pork sausage and it was tasty. As wild duck is gamier and leaner than farmed duck, the duck was cooked to a perfect medium rare and served inside a pork sausage. Presentation and portions were amazing. Just a lovely early dinner for two -- no reservation needed at 4:15 pm, as we just walked in. The beef pastrami appetizer was delicious. Staying at the Marriott this is a 4 min easy walk. This is the sister restaurant to the Imperial across the street, so same chef/ ownership. Go see my review for imperial at which we went to as well while at Prague Open kitchen makes this lively atmosphere, service was perfect, 4000 crowns for two apps, 2 main courses, 2 cocktails and a bottle of red. An excellent place to dine, with delicious food, good service, formal ambiance, and old world charm. We liked the duck and the roast pork-didn't like the "bread dumpling" which seemed to us like a limp soggy piece of thick white bread. Otherwise thought all the courses and sides were yummy. Crawfish bisque was good but too rich... we should have split this with 2 people. This wasn't my first time at Next Door -- my husband and I had dined here before and loved it. Tonight, I brought my parents and once again, everything was perfect. We had the flap steak, salmon, Caesar salad, and beef soups -- all incredibly flavorful and beautifully presented. The desserts and drinks were out of this world. The dinner salads were good but the crawfish bisque was exceptional. The three of us who ordered halibut said it was very good. The rabbit and the veal were outstanding as were our desserts. Couldn't get into The Imperial so I went here instead and I was very pleased! Great food and service. I had their special swordfish with this amazing citrus quinoa salad. We enjoyed our meal, although it was different from our past experience. I had braised beef with bread dumplings. Our server took the time to explain and advise. In fact our server, Jindra (?), was the absolute best that I have ever encountered. His thoughtfulness and courtesy were supreme. At another table a couple were carrying a bunch of flowers and he brought out a vase with water to keep them while they dined. At another table they ordered a bottle of red wine and, after opening it, he poured the sample from one glass to another four times to air it before offering it to taste! read more

I came here for dinner and must say that this was one of the best meals I had in Prague! Even though I didn't have a reservation, the waiter was able to figure something out and I was able to be seated within minutes (the place was really busy though so I would still recommend a reservation). The decor here is more modern compared to Cafe Imperial next door, but definitely had it's own appeal. I ordered the Beef Tartare, Beef Cheeks, and Chocolate Ice Cream for dessert. Everything that I had was absolutely delicious and executed perfectly. The plating was also beautiful! The mashed potatoes that came with the Beef Cheeks were so soft and fluffy - I could eat them everyday. The ice cream had a rich cocoa flavor without being too sweet, and was the perfect consistency. The service here was the best I've ever received in Prague. The waiters were extremely attentive and continued to refill my water and actually checked up to make sure everything was okay (one of the few times this happened during my trip) This place is a great spot to bring a date or enjoy one last meal before leaving the city. Absolutely one of the best restaurants where I have ever dined. The breakfast buffet is top-shelf, with many great choices. I especially appreciated the local baked treats, and the cheese carving station. The only "ding" would be the lack of more advanced coffee beverages (no espresso options), though they did offer Prosecco!) But if you want a culinary masterpiece, come back for dinner. Our experience began with a delicious bread and spread (much like ham salad). We continued with our soups and salads. You know, an outstanding Caesar Salad and house salad are underrated - both are present here. A unique soup (the fish soup satisfies!) always impresses me too! But then came the main courses. Shut the front door! I savored the venison special - cooked exactly as I dreamed it would come out. Others enjoyed the tuna steak - with a hollandaise and a touch of wasabi I will crave. My wife had the veal schnitzel, and I observed some expertly dressed chicken at a nearby table. Then came the desserts. All I can say is they looked every bit the part of the kind you would expect to see in a magazine. While all that glitters isn't gold, these desserts were on-point - with many different flavors packed into beautifully decorated little packages. Service here is kind and exquisite. Great service - tried the special of wild boar and waiter recommended to pair it with a local Cabernet, both excellent choices! Oh - a bonus, the food came out amazingly quickly. Probably less than 10 mins from order to eating. There were lots of other starters and main courses on the menu I would like to have tried, maybe next time! This restaurant came highly recommended and did not disappoint. My wife had the daily fish special (swordfish) which was delicate & flakey. I had wild boar that was also very tasty. Presentation of both were high level. Service was solid, and the recommended Bordeaux to accompany the meal away great. Prices are higher than average for Prague but we'll worth it. Likely 20-30% less expensive than a similar meal in the USA. read more

Nextdoor by Imperial is a companion restaurant to Cafe Imperial across the street run by Czech celebrity chef Zdenek Pohlreich, who is famous for a number a Television shows, especially Ano Sefe which is similar to Gordon Ramsay's Kitchen Nightmares. Pohlreich is the real deal, and despite his celebrity status his restaurants are really what makes him famous. I have been wanting to go to Imperial for the past 10 years, but it always seems to get passed up on my trips to Prague. So this time I went the with suggestion of the Taste of Prague blog on Instagram, since I heard Imperial has the best and most authentic svickova. So even before getting on the plane I made reservations a week in advance. Nextdoor by Imperial is very plush with a wonderfully decorated and maintained dining room. Upon walking we were greeted by a host/maitre'd who were among the most professionnel I have encountered, based on my experience of dining at Spago and Melisse. The front of house staff was great and they work very hard. They are the least bit snobby for a 4 star restaurant. Another surprise of this 4 star restaurant with the 4 start service was the prices, which were comparable to the touristy places around old town square. Incredible! I ordered their house beer which is brewed for Imperial and although it was a dark beer, it was refreshing after a long day of sightseeing, but I was there to try the best svickova in the Czech Republic, and possibly the world. The Svickova is service is a thing to behold. it is brought out with a basket of dumplings (knedlicky) and what I didn't know, it comes with endless sauce. Here is where the 4 star service comes in. Whenever I was out of sauce or dumplings, our waiter or another waiter would be right there to give me more omacka and take the dumplings from the basket on the table and put them on the plate. I didn't even have to once get my own dumplings. Amazing! The one thing I took away from this meal was how stupid I was for not making the effort for going 10 years ago. read more

Also make a reservation if you want to be seated between 6 and 9pm; we could not get a table on a Thursday night around 6:30pm because they were fully booked so we made a reservation and came back the next day. Reservations are highly recommended as I was not able to make a same day reservation for the busiest dinner times but they were able to accommodate me the next evening. I had an amazing meal, with excellent service, attention to detail, and a good view of the kitchen area which made it an even more enjoyable experience. There's nothing like watching the hustle and bustle of everything being prepared for the guests. I had the beef broth soup, terrine of marinated duck liver with rhubarb and ginger bread, and Braised beef with creamy sauce, bread dumplings and cranberry compote. My friend and I wanted to try Cafe Imperial when we got into the city, but unfortunately we couldn't get a table. We were trying to find a place to eat as we didn't have a reservation for a Saturday evening. We decided to come to Next Door to try our luck. We were, at first turned away, but as we were looking for another place, the host came out and said he could squeeze us in for 45 minutes. We decided to go for it. When we walked in, it seemed pretty empty and spacious. But that definitely changed by the time we were leaving. We split the beef broth soup. I think they were not accustomed to this since they just gave us 2 spoons, which was not a great way of splitting a bowl of liquid. So we asked for a small bowl, which seemed to have confused the waiter a bit, but nonetheless we got one! :) I tried the fish of the day, which was salmon on a bed of beets. The fish was cooked perfectly and the veggies were nicely flavored. Overall, good meal. I would say 45 minutes was pushing it a bit. Often when in a new city for just a few days one finds the gem restaurants so easily. My wife had the benefit of the interwebs, so it was a little easier this time, but still... it's tough. Next Door by Imperial was worth the money. We had the wild boar, mushroom soufflé and iron hanger steak. All were amazing. All melted on the palate. Beat and fennel salad for a starter share? I made a reservation here based on all the amazing reviews, and then found out it was connected to the hotel we were staying at, so it worked out perfectly! We ordered the veal tripe and the flat iron steak. I wasn't a fan of the tripe, but I also didn't know what tripe was before I ordered it which was my bad. The steak was PERFECT. So so juicy and delicious. One of the best steaks I've had. Definitely recommend that dish. The setting was romantic, upscale, and modern. read more

Food was decent but service was not so great. The waitress took a long time to bring the menu and when I asked for all of the menus, she said that was the menu. I pointed at another table and she said that was the wine menu and I asked for it to order something.... She didn't come check on us during the meal at all. This was our first meal on our first night in Prague, after several days in Vienna. We were able to make reservations for two for 19:30 on a Wednesday (non holiday) with a half hour notice, though the place was pretty full. We had the Veal with dumplings and the duck leg over shredded cabbage, followed by the house peanut-czech-desert (essentially a profiterole/cream puff with peanut sauce) and the white and dark layered chocolate cake with cherries. We had a lemonade and a house semi-dark beer with dinner, followed by tea with desert. Everything was excellent. The veal was tender, with a ghost of a blush, and a perfect balance of salt to cream in the sauce. The Duck was delicious, cooked to medium or medium well with a crunchy skin and was excellently paired with it's sides. The deserts were both quite good. The tea was fine, and was of a good brand (star tea), which seems to fairly consistently be the case in the area. The service was wonderful, and the waitress was fluent in english/very helpful. The place was warm and charming. The prices were great. The whole meal cost about 930 crowns, including tip, though we had a coupon for the desert and tea... at the time this is only 37 euros/US dollars... we spent more on breakfast in Vienna. read more

Wow! Best meal in Prague. We came here on recommendation of our hotel without a reservation. We only had to wait about ten minutes for a table. I got a free range chicken dish with candied truffles and a poulanta that is something to write home about. I haven't had dessert yet. But my meal is so amazing, that I had to leave a review. Owned by a famous Czech chef, Next Door offers delicious and beautiful food. The service is very high end and the staff is extremely attentive. If you are interested in having fancy or creative cocktails this is a little lacking on their menu. They offer standard choices found at any bar but nothing particularly special or unique. Extremely impressed with the Prague Snail starter and Crayfish soup. I ordered a traditional Czech main course and would not recommend this. Although it's cooked well, it is really just Czech food you could find at any pub for a fraction of the price. I would recommend other mains as they look delicious. They have a great dessert selection and wide array of beautiful and delicious cakes. read more
