For our last dinner in Prague, we asked our guides multiple times for what they thought was one of the best restaurants in the city. They suggested Restaurant Zvonice. Located on the 7th and 8th floors of the Gothic Bell Tower in the middle of downtown Prague, minutes away from the main square, this was an absolutely wonderful choice. The Bell Tower itself is fascinating. One suggestion before describing the restaurant: go to the top and enjoy the view before dinner. We didn't do this and the viewing station was closed. So go to the top first before enjoying the meal. This restaurant is gorgeous. The structure is so old that there are beams throughout at about 5 feet high. The wait staff learn quickly to constantly bend their heads, otherwise they'll get repeatedly hit in the head. This interesting and ancient architecture makes for lots of intimate spaces for the tables. Both along the border where there are windows and in romantic corners. The wait staff was absolutely first rate. Totally. Our server Jason and his assistant could not have been more attentive to our needs. We started with a wonderful Czech red Merlot that complemented the meal completely. Jason was really helpful in guiding us to select some excellent dishes. We started with the appetizers of Goat cheese with apricot, beef bouillon and a rucola (arugula) salad. The goat cheese was heavenly. Apricots are grown in this part of Europe and the dish was amazing. For entrees we chose and truly enjoyed the venison with pumpkin sauce and sweet potato, and risotto with truffle sauce. There is a very pungent flavor of truffle in this dish. I love it. But just be aware if this is not your taste. For dessert we shared the chestnut moose with apricot sauce. OMG. This was truly a highlight that completed a most memorable meal. The cost was not cheap, but certainly very reasonable for the elegance of the restaurant, the superb quality food and wine. The service was great (although I will say I went at 8:30pm on a Wednesday, and there were only 3 other tables). But definitely get a reservation as there are a very limited number of tables. The views are great. It's so cool to be having dinner in an old bell tower. And to get amazing food and wine with the experience just topped it off so nicely. Restaurant Zvonice was our first meal in Prague this trip, and I still think it might be my favorite. We learned about the restaurant from a group of travel bloggers we've used for trips both in the US and globally. The restaurant is located on two floors in Henry's Bell Tower, near the Powder Tower. As some have noted, the restaurant is on the pricier side. However, the food is so well prepared that if you are in the mood for a splurge in a unique location, you should go for it. My husband, stepson, and I had three different traditional Czech entrees -- the wild boar ragout, the duck breast, and the venison with dumplings -- and all three were outstanding. Combined with a traditional Czech pils, you can't go wrong. We skipped dessert in favor of a fresh chimney cake on our walk back to the hotel. The restaurant took us a little early for our reservation, which was helpful as we were tired from our day of flying and ready to get to bed. The service struck a nice balance between being attentive and not overly so. The crowd was a mix of tourists and locals enjoying a nice dinner. The vibe was casual and unstuffy. My mother always said "if you can't say anything nice don't say anything at all" But this is my exception. This restaurant wants to be upscale but it's not. The presentation was nice but the food was not. I'll spare you all the details but give you a few hints. The Beef soup lacked any "beefy" to it and was more like beef water. The Bohemian Roe deer tenderloin was dried out what a disappointment. The other dishes of chicken were dry and lacked any flavor along with the salmon it was a total disaster. My husband and I went to Restaurant Zvonice for an anniversary celebration. It was recommended to us by the tour we were on. While the ambiance was certainly beautiful and different, the service was lacking. It took 2 1/2 hours from the start of the dinner until we left. The time between courses and to get our check was frustratingly long. As for the food, while it was delicious, it was also not hot. It was very expensive and I expected better service and a hot meal. Vacationing in Prague and hubby and I wanted to try Czech cuisine. This restaurant is llocated close to the Art Nouveau Palace where we were staying. Located in Henry's Belltower, you take an elevator to the 7th or 8th floor where a server greeted us. We were the first patrons and we got our pick of seating. Note that there are not a bunch of windows with views of the city, but we did get a window seat with a partial view. We had complimentary appetizer that was very tasty. I ordered veal cheeks that came in a brown gravy with a potato mash. Hubby ordered duck with dumplings. We didn't care for the food. We did enjoy the Czech wine. I wandered in Restaurant Zvonice shortly after arriving in Prague, wanting to get a taste of local cuisine. It's located at the top of a historic tower - offering a unique, cozy, intimate interior. This was my first experience with the cuisine and I didn't know what to expect. I ordered the Boar Tenderloin (Marinated wild boar tenderloin roasted on thyme with fresh blackberry sauce, served with baked Old Bohemian pork patties and mushroom tartar with forest herbs). The restaurant is at the top of an old bell tower , it's super cool and to top it off the service was excellent, Lucas my waiter recommended the Roast duck as " what we would have in Czech on a Sunday dinner" I couldn't argue with that, I wanted to try the venison pate with my beers as they cooked my duck , served with two pieces of bread and seemed like every bite I took was better than the last , The duck showed up (huge portions) was tender juicy and served with dumplings for sopping up the brown sauce that the duck was on , the heart was cut up into pieces in the sauce and just added another texture and taste to the best duck I've ever had . We came here on New Years Eve based on all the great reviews we've seen around this restaurant. When we sat down at the restaurant, we found out that they had a special NYE menu which we noticed was quite expensive (~$30+ USD for appetizers!) but my fiancee was quite hungry so we decided to order a couple of soups + 2 apps. Boy, what a huge mistake that was! For 2 soups and 2 apps, the total came out to be $120! And none of what we ordered was worth even a quarter of what we paid based on any metric (taste, portions, presentation, creativity, value versus other options, etc). Ultimately, we were the fools for not getting up after seeing the price like a few other tables did, but a tough lesson learned indeed. read more

We just returned from Prague and I have to RAVE about this one! First, I was traveling with 12 clients of our travel agency and I was looking for a unique experience for foodies that would include local cuisine. Zvonice knocked it out of the park. Dining in the belfry of an ancient clock tower is pretty cool, but when you add the exceptional food and service - its a true WINNER. Roman took great care of all of us and our clients were thrilled with both the food an experience. This is NOT to be missed when visiting Prague. I got there late too but she sat me right away with an admonishment to order within the next 10 minutes. Not a problem. Glass of house red and the crayfish gravy soup. I can still taste it. So good. There was a little something from the chef first to get me going. Ok now I am settling in and I look up and the huge bell is just above me. Dark and romantic (I was solo, lame) the place feels small but there is eating in nooks and crannies everywhere. The main came (I ordered the steak salad) I would say the whole thing was a 9 out of 10. Definitely worth the price which was high but I am only on Prague two days. read more

The thick menu looks like a manuscript from the middle ages. Service is excellent from the moment you enter to the moment you leave. The food is all craftily prepared. We chose to pick several dishes to share. The food was flavorful and interesting. It is more of the experience of being in a belfry and the food is part of it. For me the food itself was good. The duck dish for instance was good. It wasn't particularly overwhelming, but it certainly was good. The portions are not exceeding. It is measured and just the right amount. The location has two floors and you enter on the 7th floor. We were seated near the bell. It's crazy to think how old the tower is and how they added a restaurant around the bell. We thoroughly enjoyed a wonderful, relaxing meal in an amazing setting. Excellent food and welcoming service left us with memories we will reminisce about for years to come. We're hoping to duplicate the sauerkraut soup when we return home. We also enjoyed the pate and ordered the veal tongue to say we tried it, but were pleasantly surprised and would order it again. This was quite an experience. Dinner in a castle! The food was delicious, atmosphere was fun and the service was excellent. We had the sauerkraut soup which was surprisingly delicious to someone that does not enjoy sauerkraut. We had the half fuck with bacon and potatoes dumplings which was so tender and moist, the trout, the duck with sour cherry sauce and the steak that was easily. It through and cooked to perfection. The waiter spoke very good English and the portions were surprisingly large from what we had been experiencing in other restaurants. We set upstairs and it was a little warm though Prague had been having unseasonably warm weather so that may have been why. Remarkable restaurant that I would absolutely go to again. read more
