I signed up my daughter for Next Step Dance and when she came out she said to me that the dance teacher she had called her You think you're special? "Being" the so called dance teacher? WHAT?! Then the next time when she went to dance class the teacher was yanking her like a heavy stick off the ground. The benches are uncomfortable, the costs is SO HIGH,(paying $180) the security cams are bad quality. We've tried other dance studios before but nothing is like this. Please, don't go here. read more

The coaches and directors have trained me in ways that has shown so much growth as a dancer and person. This studio is absolutely ridiculous! They charge you for every little thing. I was thrilled when they said they only did one recital/revue a year but then I got the charges for costume, expected but for the price that costume better have gold weaved through. The costume for a child under the age of 7 was $84 plus a revue fee of $68. At this point I took a deep breath and dealt with it. Well I've just found out that we now have to purchase tickets in order to attend...the tickets are $23-$35 PER PERSON!! Why?? It's held in a high school auditorium. I had family that was planning on attending but now are unable to. The amount I'm going to have to pay for my small family to be there is ridiculous. If you want to watch your money burn then feel free to attend this studio. read more

The teachers seem to have trouble maintaining order in the classroom. Many of the kids are good at paying attention and following the instruction but the ones who can't are basically allowed to run wild and end up disrupting the rest of the class or killing the time of the class trying to coral them and cheating other kids out of the full session. When you are teaching the routine half is doing it and the other half isn't. Divide the class between the 2 teachers, so 1 teacher focuses on guiding each kid while the other one stays on the front guiding the class. Please don't stop the class early to try on the costumes for the recitals. Some of the kids are not attending the recital and four year olds don't understand why some kids have costumes and they don't or why they aren't attending the recital and it seems almost intentional guilting of the parents who haven't paid to have their kids in the recital but the reality is it's far more impactful and potentially damaging to the child and is just unacceptable. You guys have a good reputation on older kids, but there seems to be a lot lacking in knowledge and experience in properly dealing with and instructing younger children. My daughter seems to enjoy it and we love seen her improve. I just wish there was more professionalism and discipline when educating children. read more

I have been a dance instructor for two years and I have never seen a creative movement class sit down for majority of the class time. I am horrified by the two year old teachers on Saturday morning. Numerous moms have seen how hard they yank the children around when doing corrective action. The structure of the class is poor and the teachers do not seem to have the energy to be in instructing the class. I would not pay $80 a month for this studio. read more

I can't speak about the actual studio, just about the manager/owner. I signed my daughter up for her first dance class ever, but after three weeks of me trying to convince her to go I decided to cancel since we didn't even make one class. Instead of trying to work with me and being understanding of my situation, the manager/owner said tough luck and that I signed a contract and they were keeping my $135.00. I understand every business has policies (I've owned and operated my own business for several years), but when you stop treating your customers like human beings and make exceptions when appropriate, then it's probably time to pass the torch to someone who actually cares about the customers and the community they are building. read more

I'm writing this review because even after complaining in person it was still clear that the folks at the dance studio don't understand what they did wrong which is scary to me since, whether they realize it or not, for at least one hour a week they are very influential figures to the children who attend their classes. My daughter joined the semester late and the recital at the end happens to conflict with a family vacation so my daughter is not signed up to attend the recital. Today was photo day and my daughter was the only child in her class that is not attending the recital and therefore does not have the recital uniform. I had to painfully watch today as they took the group class photo and physically moved my 4 year old daughter out of the photo and let her watch the rest of the class take 5 more photos without her in it. I asked her later if she knew why they moved her out of the class photo and she said it was because she didn't do the pose right. I know the teacher/photographer didn't actually say that to her, but that's the point, 4 year olds don't understand, or have the capacity to logically reason out a situation like that. It's humiliating for her and to be solo'd out and not understand why she isn't part of the group is not only embarrassing and hurtful at the surface level, it could have long lasting psychological impact, it could be one of the many little events that happen to our children in their young lives that create deep seeded insecurities that ultimately shape their character and lives. Since the group running the studio seems to be completely oblivious to how terrible their handling of this was I wanted to offer some common sense ideas to avoid this in the future for other parents and children: 1) have extra recital outfit(s) for the kids who are not attending the recital but are part of the class learning the dance every week and deserve to be part of the class picture. 2) have something else prepared for the kids not attending the recital to do while pictures are being taken, you're a dance studio right? Go work with them on some dance steps or tapping or the routine. 3) tell the parents well ahead of time that kids not in the recital won't be part of the photos and give them their money back for that week of dance class they aren't actually getting and tell them to not come that week. 4) Let's get real, who cares if the kid is wearing a different outfit, she's part of the class, she's learned the routine and no one really cares if a 4 year old's dance class photo has kids in it that aren't in the same uniform, just let them be part of all the photos 5) Basically, anything you do except isolate a kid out from the rest of the class and make them feel different and less than equal would be far better. read more

So I'll preface this by saying I've never had an issue with the dance instructors or staff... my review is solely based on two observations that I find less than impressive. The lobby gets packed during the day, and I mean packed. Lots of people are forced to block the hallway or sit on the lobby floor and when one person gets up it's like fight club musical chairs as someone else rushes to get their seat. We are paying good money for our kids to dance, could it kill the place to provide additional seating?? Maybe move some of those huge safety hazard trophies off the ground and add some more benches. Not to mention it gets SO hot in the lobby with that many people crammed together you think they could adjust the air conditioner accordingly. This brings me to my second, more annoying observation. My kiddo is younger so I don't feel comfortable leaving so I choose wait in the lobby (as most people do) until her dance class is over. Well, like myself, there are many other moms waiting and have younger children with them. I went to change my baby's diaper and can you believe there isn't a single diaper changing station in the entire establishment???? So many moms and children in attendance and they can't add a simple changing station in the restrooms? While I like the dance instructors and for the most part my kiddo seems to enjoys it, I feel like the studio is lacking in many ways and parents are an afterthought (minus the monthly withdrawals coming from our accounts, of course$$). I mean to put things into perspective, the place where I go to get my oil changed in my car has a changing table! Accommodate parents, and at least let them have somewhere to sit, along with a place to wipe their baby's rear end! read more

This dance studio, while a very nice location and with really great, friendly teachers, is just not for us. The classes went very well for the first few times and my daughter loved her weekly "ballet day". The problem occurred when it came to recital time. This dance studio takes their recitals wayyyy more seriously. Starting with their youngest class (2-3 year olds) you are expected to buy a costume (inexplicably skimpy at times for such young kids) and for both the recitals and the professional pictures (they set up a studio in the dance class) you are expected to put them in FULL MAKEUP. They call it "show makeup" and it includes mascara, pencilled in eyebrows, looooots of blush and bright lipstick. We're talking full on Toddlers in Tiaras. I was shocked. I can't condone that type of backwards behavior. We should know better than to subject our daughters to that nonsense. My daughter is beautiful, inside and out, she doesn't need makeup. Especially not at 3. We're sticking with gymnastics. read more

I danced under the direction of owner, Michelle Stafford, since I was 2 years old. The passion, dedication, and commitment that the teachers have at this studio is unmatched. Choreographers from around the country come here to teach master classes and choreograph pieces for the company dancers. This is an incredible place for young dancers to train and learn to be disciplined in dance as well as in every aspect of their lives. The talent and hard work at Next Step is incredible. My daughters highly respect the direction and positive encouragement they receive from the Senior Drill Team director, Jen Contreras. WE have been going to Next Step Dance (NSD) for 7 years and Love it there. My daughter was on Hip Hop Crew and we have had nothing but a great experience there. The staff is incredible. I signed up both of my daughters for the ballet class for the 7-9 year olds and after 2 months pulled them out after my daughters requested to stop. They both have taken ballet classes before since they were 4 years old and this place is by far least concerned about the happiness of the students and parents. They just care about getting your money. Half of the class time was wasted just with the teacher standing there taking role and having the kids do stretches. Not only was the teacher late on 2 occasions but when I brought it up to her, instead of apologizing, she just talked back to me in a rude way. During one week the teacher was out for whatever reason and I saw a kid was teaching the class! When I inquired it turned out it was the teacher's daughter teaching the class, which in my opinion, I did not pay to have an inexperienced child teach my kids. The teacher was rude and cannot start the class on time and some days ended early! Find a place that actually cares about the students and not just about getting your money and pushing you to sign up for recital because everyone else is signed up. read more
