::My sons have been been playing NFL flag more than half their lives and they are 12 yrs and 9 yrs old. This league has grown so much within the years. My sons play every season and we have had good and bad seasons.. but they learned from each one! They both play year around (Spring, Summer, Fall & Winter), because they love it so much! There is recreational and competitive in this league. So if you have a beginner start off at recreational. And if you have a son or daughter that is advanced, they can try out for competitive. My oldest plays competitive and youngest does recreational. They both love it! They have this league all over San Diego, but the best it is in Santee! Friday nights lights and beer garden there. Fun for parents and kids! Can't go wrong with that! Remember, this league has volunteering parents that are coaches, so you have to be patient. There are some that have been coaching for years and some that are brand new. The more your child plays.. they will establish a team. My boys play between two different teams sometimes depending on the season. During sign-ups, you can do coach and/or friend requests, so bring a friend! Staff is great. Never had any issues! My son has been with SD NFL flag since he was in 3rd grade and he is now in 8th . This league has brought us so much joy into our busy lives but we can always count on meeting new friends/ players that turn into family and creating a lifetime of memories. The staff has always been nice and communicative, schedules and practice locations are sometimes wonky (per the city not them) but they always do their best to make it happen. My son has played 3-4 seasons a year since third grade (now he's in 8th). I agree that this league has gone downhill. The summer league was especially terrible. We played two games. That's it. The web site says we get 4 games plus playoffs. There were only 2 teams in my son's grade, and we were not given a choice to drop out. Had we known there were 2 teams and we would play them twice for the only games we had, we would not have stayed. read more

Don't waste your time and money on this flag football league. Our boys and their friends have been playing this league for 5 years and each year, it declines more and more. There's no consistency on where practices and games are held. One minute it's Santee, then it's El Cajon, then it's Santee. There seems to be no proper screening when they hire refs. More often than not, the refs aren't following the rule book, rude when coaches are asking them to clarify, and ultimately it's the kids that get the short end of it due to bad Refereeing. Examples in 2025: They don't secure appropriate practice locations and could have you drive far in traffic to hold your practice. We started practicing at Woodglen Vista park and they somehow lost that permit to practice there. Then it's only Town Center but only on Wednesdays and only on the turf football field. There are dozens of teams...how can we all fit? Oh wait! You can now drive in 30minutes of rush hour traffic and practice in El Cajon. Ummm, we signed up for a Santee league....not El Cajon! Our 3rd/4th grade team was undefeated all season and through playoffs. It's the Super Bowl and the field is set up incorrectly. Why was our field longer than all the other fields next to us? Shouldn't it be the same? When coaches and parents asked the ref, we were met with disrespect and an attitude of "don't question me". Keep in mind, we've been out here for 9 weeks playing games....WE KNOW how the field should look! What broke the hearts of our 8 and 9 year old boys was that the game abruptly stopped at the end of the 3rd quarter. WHAT WE ALL THOUGHT WAS THE 3rd QUARTER. The ref never announced the 4th quarter! Coaches on both teams were surprised. The score was 18-12 and we all thought there was a 4th quarter left. Nope! The game just stops. Both coaches talked to the ref and he was not having it. If we had known we were in the 4th quarter, we would have called a timeout, not punted and went for it, put in our 2 fastest players. The icing on the cake is that there should be 2 experienced refs during the Super Bowl. We had one jerk of a ref and a newbie that was training with him. He wasn't in uniform and was legit in training! Uggggh sorry for the long rant. Seeing 8 and 9 year olds that worked incredibly hard, only to lose because of an unqualified ref is heartbreaking. Imagine if you could have had the perfect season and it gets taken away from you due to an incompetent referee that didn't know how to blow a whistle and announce the start of a new quarter. Or give any type of 1-2 minute warning. At one point of the game, both coaches even asked (In Front of the Ref). Is this 3rd quarter still? The ref said nothing and both coaches agreed it was still 3rd because 4th was never announced. NFL Flag....do better. Our son played 2 seasons with this league, and its unfortunate that for various reasons mentioned in other comments, we won't be coming back to play with them again. The coaches try their very best for the kids to learn football and have fun, but its tough when they lack the support from the organization. Key points and reasons to avoid this group: - Unorganized - You don't get your moneys worth - Refs do not know the rules - Field lights do not come on in time for the games (our kids were playing in the dark until parents complained only for the games to be put on hold for 20 minutes and wait for lights to come on at 8pm) - Coaches are volunteers, so you might get canceled if no one steps up. (Keep in mind this is after paying over $250 to play) yes you may get a refund, but count on waiting for it as unorganized that they are. - Yellow shorts and yellow flags, how do you differentiate trying to pull a flag that is camouflaged to the shorts? Check out my picture. Not to mention a poor kids shorts were pulled down on accident during a game. I hope this organization takes these honest reviews and apply the changes they desperately need. This is not an organization that has what's best for the kids as part of their business practice. They are very unorganized and unresponsive. In our most recent season our team made it to the Super Bowl, date and time scheduled and 1/2 way through the playoff game before the Super Bowl they tell the coaches they had a conflict and the Super Bowl game cannot be played that day as planned. Do you know how devastating that is to a group of 9 and 10 year olds who made it to the Super Bowl just to have the game cancelled by the league, how do you explain that to kids? NFL Flag should be ashamed of themselves and should do the right thing by the kids, let them play the game you promised and that they earned! read more

Terrible. LOTS of Teams are stacked so if your kid joins "solo" / without a (coach) hand-picked group, they will play with all the kids who have little to no experience. Garbage League. Unorganized at its best! Unresponsive unless you blast the whole league and all parents. Parents save your money. When you don't get a good coach who can communicate effectively and active you might as well quit because you won't get much help from the league admins. We ran into this issue and we should've listened to the other reviews. They preach read the website and a lot of info is there but you show up to practice locations and coaches are a no show and you are in a group chat with other parents trying to figure out when practice is because there is no coach who communicates what time and location on a large field to meet at or the coach will give you a day and time (no location still) and not show up. When you try to reach out to the league they reply insinuating that parents aren't reading the website but no mater what you try to tell them as far as no communication coming from coaches they still turn a blind eye and insist we aren't reading the website. You spend all this money and you find yourself in the middle of a short season and still no communication other then show up on game day and meet your team. It sucks for the kids because they dont get the same amount of practice as other kids and the show up to a game and get blown out by other teams. What kind of trash league leaves a team of parents in the dark and doesn't even offer a refund? An entire team of 8 kids parents paid $200 or whatever the league fee was for Nothing. Not much help, no communication and garbage customer service. PARENTS save your money and go find another league where customer service is better and communication is king. Don't break your kids hearts and get their hopes high for team dynamics, friendships and mentorship because you wont get that here. read more

Terrible organization. They were begging for volunteer coaches about to cancel the team my son was assigned to if they didn't get one. The poor guy who stepped up is clearly overwhelmed and has been given no support. He doesn't know the rules, doesn't teach the kids anything, and forgets how to even cycle players so kids wind up on the bench half the game. THE WORSE LEAGUE AND RUN BUSINESS EVER. They are SO unorganized. They hire refs who have NO clue what the rules are. They are extremely inconsistent with different refs from different leagues, who actually admit to the parents and coaches that they don't know the rules. Yes, it's supposed to be fun, and the kids are supposed to enjoy it win or lose--but unfortunately, the ghost of a President named Chris and the lousy Vice President with the short man's complex make it so the kids are beyond frustrated. Sadly, they don't respond to emails, they are missing on the field 80% of the times (except to pop up for picking up pylons), and they just simply don't know how to do $*%#! Every single game in every season has had an issue. Not like one issue, many!!! They don't start on time, missing refs, teams playing in crossing guard gear, cutting the fields in half, lights going out after games and walking in pitch black to your car, etc. Oh and yes, when you challenge a call, the refs talk back and talk #*%^ to the coaches and parents telling them "why don't you win then." Unbelievable. Then to get follow up emails after we show them video proof of their VP acting inappropriately and escalating the situation, the president tells all that head coach and VP are suspended. I love how both are suspended but the league and the president take ZERO accountability for why the incident started -- refs admitting that they don't know the rule and making inexcusable calls!!! And, you can't challenge anything that the ghost president says because all he throws out is how he's grown this league and has had professional football players that attend the games. Nobody cares about that! Quit living in the past, Pres! It's supposed to be about the kids and making it fun! I could go on and on. It's sad, so very sad that we've spent so much money and volunteer time with this horrible league. Our whole team and the parents felt like this. Never again, this is it. The fall season is over, and so I complete the trilogy that is my review. My family's cumulative experience has been more good than bad, and so I give 3 stars. Our 5th/6th grade San Marcos based team was offered a total of 9 games, including 2 travel games to Menifee. We played the league's guaranteed seasonal 8, forfeiting our last travel game, ending our season with 3 losses and 6 wins. Six games ended in mercy rule (we were on both sides of the mercy rule endings). Two of our games ended reasonably close. Our team then advanced through the playoffs to the Super Bowl. The league has improved its no tolerance on poor sportsmanship by coaches and players, but the refs continue to be an issue. Better training and a second ref at super bowls would be an improvement, and I've been assured is under review by management, once the nonprofit organization can find room in the budget. Cost to join will range from 185-230 per season depending on how early you register, and does not include the required helmet at $50 and sponsor fee, if your team cannot find a sponsor it will split between players. For this you receive 8 games, uniforms, flags, and a hard working volunteer coach. This volunteer coach will be the person responsible to teach football fundamentals to your child. Expect to register for spring during fall season, and fall during spring season. I find it funny that the league advertises great fields, they are all publicly maintained. They are fine fields, but throughout the season the dimension of the playing fields are different, especially the end zone markings. I've been assured the league is working on it but they didn't get it this season. As a parent, the less you care about details the happier you will be. Coaches must be organized in order to navigate everything, and finding fields to practice at can be a challenge. My gripe is an adult one. My kid sees nothing of it and is happy to play. The organization seems chaotic. The schedules, conflicting information from one league employee to the next, fighting for a decent season schedule, among other things. I understand it's a new organization and is impacted with kids at our age level. Do not expect to find the coordination that the Kahler's in basketball have, or even Lalo at PCG competitive boys gymnastics. But my son has learned safely the fundamentals of football, has made lifelong friends, and loves the game. We lucked out joining a team early with a kind, organized, patient coach. Despite the poor record keeping that would improve the schedule when only 8 games are guaranteed, despite the feeling that the league essentially chose to gamble rather than use information to schedule the first four games (or half) of our schedule, my son wants to play another season. I've reluctantly registered him to play with his friends for another spring season. Meanwhile I intend to care less about details and be flexible in my own schedule to allow for inevitable changes. read more

I previously gave a one star review based on my previous experience. Since then I have changed it to reflect the responses given by Chris and Greg who run the organization. I now know and understand their frustrations and challenges dealing with the city of Chula Vista on reserving the fields and scheduling games. It is out of their control. Last night was the first game we played on the field they were originally set up for at the start of the season. The experience was what it should be. The remainder of the season should now be flawless. They have now hopefully worked out the issues with the city and we can enjoy the NFL flag season. I have signed up for the next spring league and I'm positive it will be great. My son loves it! Thank you Greg and Chris and keep pushing to keep this league great for the kids! read more

This league is very unorganized and unresponsive. They change schedules last minute leaving parents to scramble and provide schedules late. We understand now why they can't get coaches, because they are so unorganized. In addition, they've reduced the field sizes for games since last year. Likely so they can get more kids to sign up and get more in fees. There's very little room for the older kids to actually run and make plays. This is not a volunteer run league other than the coaches. Management makes a lot of money and one would assume that it would be better run. We've been in a lot of sports organizations and this is the worst by far and we won't be back. read more

Im going to start out by saying that I dont know or understand how or why the NFL has allowed these people to use its name. This league is so unorganized and such a disappointment its insane! We grin and beared it thru a the entire season only to get to the "superbowl" that really iced the cake as far as parents were concerned. The teams were out there all day, no one knew play times, field #s, there were huge delays and long gaps between games due to poor scheduling and that doesnt even include the 5 time changes we received in the middle of the night before game day. I want to say that this organization has been a great thing for my son. He has been playing for a couple of years and likes it a lot. He has been able to learn the fundamentals of football and play with a great group of boys - I know girls play too, but his teams have been all boys. Playing time has been fair, and he has had the opportunity to try different positions. The uniforms are pretty cool too! The games are short, and fast paced, the refs seem to work well with the coaches and things run smoothly. It is always a fun atmosphere. We plan on having him play as long as he can. My son has been playing in for NFL Flag for about 4 years. He LOVES it - I love it. It has been a really great experience. The coaches have made it very fun, and a great learning experience for the players. The league is well run, competitive, and affordable. The people who run the league have really gone above and beyond. The NFL Player day has also been such a great day for the kids. I know my son has had the opportunity to meet so many future Hall of Fame players. There is not another league that does this for our kids. As a parent it is so good to see your child build confidence through a sport. They get to learn football skills without the injuries that sometimes happens with tackle (my son plays tackle too). We followed Chargers QB Philip Rivers' and former back-up QB Kellen Clemens' lead and also enrolled our son in the NFL Flag San Diego league several years ago. It was a fantastic experience for our son for many seasons learning football skills, techniques, teamwork, and sportsmanship with an emphasis on safety and head protection. Coach Chris Williams was informative and fun. The league offered a great experience that prepared our son well for high school football. NFL Flag San Diego also offered discounts throughout the season to various retailers such as Dick's Sporting Goods and made us aware of free football camps run by NFL players and their athletic partners. Sadly to say knowing that this league is backed up by the NFL and I love football, it is VERY unorganized. You would think that with the NFL sponsoring this flag football league you would get the best of the best but it's quite the opposite. There are constant last minute changes to the schedules. Not enough equipment for the players and when the coach had requested certain jersey sizes for his team (kindergartens) we received sizes from the correct size all the way to sizes that fit a 10 year old. Out of the 8 games we play, we play 1 team 5 times and play the other 3 teams once. Don't understand why we cant play each team twice or come up with a better game schedule since we are going against the back to back kindergarten champions 5 times. Parents are paying a couple hundred dollars for something that is not quality but rather looks like quantity for the league. To top it off any questions or concerns you have try reaching the head coach of the league I'm sure he WONT be returning your call read more

We have played in this league off and on for 3 years, it Never gets any better !! You'd think after 3 years, a growing Co + Technology they'd be much more organized and put together. But they always seem to disappoint, not enough Coachs, coaches signed up for 3 teams when they've only wanted to coach one, terrible scheduling issues !! 2 games on schedule, same day/time, changing times of games less then 24 hours before game, you contact them by email and they have no clue what your talking about. They need to stop paying themselves so much, stop running a business out of a house and hire some people that know what they are doing !!! $300, plus a $35 sponsorship fee, and a $50 helmet, it's hardly worth any of this !! We play 4 other sports and have never had this many issues with any other leagues !!! read more

I have been to many games where the referee smells like weed, does not have a coin for the coin toss, does not know the rules of flag football, apologizes for not being prepared, blames NFLflagSD for their problems and then they treat kids and parents like crap. Everyone complains to the league, but every season it just gets worse. Don't waste your money, your kid will go home crying and you WILL be frustrated. read more

It is a great combination of competitiveness while stressing that sportsmanship and having fun are the most important thing. NFl Flag San Diego is the premier Flag league in San Diego and surrounding area. I wouldn't put my kid in any other Flag league. This league offers safe, fast paced exciting games for all ages of kids. Most kids love the competitive nature this league offers, for a slower pace, I do know they offer a (rec) division. They were the 1st league to institute wearing soft helmets for each kid. I personally love this idea, not only do they look good, they are safe. How could it be better? The fields are absolutely beautiful, mostly turf, some of the best fields around. Kids never have to worry about twisting ankles, or tearing ACL's. All kids get to play equal playing time, this is strictly enforced. Don't always agree with everybody getting equal playing time, but love that they look out for every kid in their league, regardless of skill set. The jersey's are just awesome. Kids get to wear their favorite NFL team jerseys. How exciting is that? Emails have always been answered in a timely manner with the understanding that with any business, sometimes things take a few days. Kids can pretty much play year around. The league has had a tremendous amount of growth the last few seasons and has had some growing pains. I truly believe that they will get these things ironed out, and will be even better in the future. To sum up NFL Flag San Diego. It's a dream come true for the youngsters of San Diego. read more
