Extremely well run school. Place is always clean, staff is thoughtful and dedicated, and children are well balanced in routine and freedom of self exploration. They offer mandarin immersion with English, Spanish, math, and music classes, as well as quarterly themed projects, various activities, and seasonal events. I have been sending my 2 preschool kids to Ni Hao for weekend immersion. We first became customers in 2016, after a few trials here and at other Chinese language schools. I found Ni Hao to be the most clean, organized and culturally atuned to my needs. We also had a friend introduce us as her daughter goes here. The facility is new and within a higher end shopping mall at the foothills of Torrance, right before you enter Palos Verdes. The classrooms are bright and open, well decorated and functional with even an indoor playroom with a slide for little ones to burn some of their extra excited energy. After class on the weekends, I see the cleaner come clean the bathrooms and classrooms. That's awesome - she does a good job. Though this location has quite a number of different people manning the front desk, I always reliably get a call or email back when I have questions. Similar to our swim lessons, the teachers always have a quick synopsis for each parent, about what the kids did today and what they are working on. When I want a face-to-face discussion, I am never shooed away. It's not like public school! I am first generation Taiwanese but identify as ABC given how early I came to the States. Culturally, Ni Hao is atuned to American standards of gender equality, independence, emotional compassion and curiosity. This is important to me as I've witnessed the 'old school' approach to teaching (myself and at Ni Hal's competition) where the teacher may look for qualities that are sometimes the norm in Asia - preference for boys, not awarding confident vocalization but silent obedience, emphasis on being like others. This is hard for me to describe here but easy for you to observe. At home, for example, I do not let my kids watch Chinese cartoons where female characters are meek or weak. I know Ni Hao finds what is culturally appropriate for the kids when I have my kids in their care. Ni Hao asks up front of you want your kids to learn to read/write in traditional or simplified Chinese. We chose traditional so, alongside kids who chose simplified, our kids color and trace traditional conji. Operationally, it is very smooth. We imagine we will be supporting Ni Hao for years to come. I have been eagerly awaiting a weekend immersion in their Redondo Beach location (so much closer to home for us), one of the sites they relatively recently opened as part of their aggressive multi-year expansion plan. read more

Our daughter has attended a number of programs (Saturday School, Preschool, Online & Pre-K Immersion) at Ni Hao Chinese School over the past few years and each program has been second to none. The teachers are amazing, the curriculum is thoughtful and educational, and our child has been treated with incredible care in each program. Our daughter started with the Saturday class at Ni Hao Chinese in Torrance at 3 years and because of kind and warm teachers like Momo Laoshi, our daughter had instantly enjoyed attending the classes. Our daughter then transitioned to full-time preschool at Ni Hao Redondo Beach school when she was 3.5 years old and the teachers and staff were exceptional in making my daughter and us comfortable with the transition from another preschool. Besides instructing our daughter in a new language, the teachers at the Ni Hao Redondo Beach showed compassion in their teaching standards, emphasized the importance of values and cultivated our daughter (and each child) into leaders and compassionate people through their classes and lessons plans. We were amazed at how quickly she picked up the language and was either singing songs in Chinese or saying phrases. When COVID-19 first hit, Ni Hao Chinese showed how remarkably prepared and capable they were and within two weeks of the mandatory school shut-down, Ni Hao Chinese was able to transition into online learning. Though it was difficult at first to transition pre-k students to online learning, the teachers did an amazing job of creating an online curriculum that reflects the core tenets of Ni Hao Chinese while still keeping the students engaged through projects, videos and worksheets. From art, to math to science, history and more, the curriculum provided by Ni Hao Chinese gave our family the foundation to continue our daughter's daily education. We fully utilized and supplemented her curriculum with daily worksheets provided as well as videos from Ni Hao's YouTube channel. The teachers were always communicative with both my daughter (in-class) and with us (via email) and through daily and weekly reminders, we were properly prepared for each class. As things return to a new normal in the semi-post pandemic, we decided to enroll our daughter into the Pre-K Immersion Program at Ni Hao Torrance to help prepare her for kindergarten in the fall and the opportunity to integrate her socially with other students. The transition to the in-person class has been seamless. While we had many questions, the staff were amazing in planning and answered all of our questions and put us at ease with our concerns about social distancing, masks, class size and sanitizing the school. Though my daughter is the oldest in this program, the teacher has been able to integrate her very well with the other students, along with providing her unique opportunities to develop learn and grow. While it is currently three days a week, she has said that she wished she could go to Ni Hao school every day! Our experience at the Ni Hao School through the many different programs (Saturday School, Preschool, Online & Pre-K Immersion) has been exceptional and we love being part of the Ni Hao community. Ni Hao is incredibly thoughtful in every aspect, from the curriculum (and multiple learning platforms, books, videos, app, etc.) to the teachers and staff, to the facility, and to the programs and activities. (We also loved their Lunar New Year Festival, which was such a wonderful family activity!) Ni Hao has made an impact in our lives, as reflected in our daughter's recurring comments about how much she misses her past teachers from each of the programs. If I could give Ni Hao 6 stars, I would! My daughter (who is now 1.5 yrs old) and I have been taking Parent & Me classes since Ni Hao opened several months ago. My daughter has responded so enthusiastically that we now attend together 6 days/week! Ni Hao is always the highlight of each day, for both of us! The best part about Ni Hao is not the extremely clean environment, the colorful yet simple decor, the helpful class materials, or the fact that the instruction is nearly 100% in Mandarin Chinese The best part about Ni Hao is the staff! Every single staff member is extraordinarily friendly and helpful. The director, Lisa Hsu, is delightful and bends over backwards for her clients. She has opened up several classes for clients at their request. For instance, I recently heard a parent (whose son loves yoga) ask Lisa if Ni Hao would consider opening up a yoga class for small children. Lisa enthusiastically agreed to open one, if just a few more parents expressed interest. Another example: When I asked Lisa if she could help me find a particular Chinese reading toy for my daughter, she had her brother in law buy one in Shanghai and bring it back to the U.S. for me! The main Parent & Me teacher, Momo, is one of the most gifted teachers I have ever met. She is genuinely and abundantly loving, warm, and caring. My daughter has absolutely blossomed in the glow of Momo's love. Momo closely observes each child. She asks questions carefully targeted at their ability level, and waits patiently to give each child a chance to respond. Her classes are structured without being stifling. Momo modifies her curriculum from week to week and even day to day, to respond to the particular needs and learning styles of the children in attendance. For example, my daughter likes being outside. Having observed this, when there was a small class one day Momo held most of the class outside (in the safe, pleasant office complex where Ni Hao is located). My daughter adores dancing. Knowing this, one day Momo held a special dance class just for her. My daughter was thrilled. The amazing part is that all the teachers are like that! Emmy, another Parent & Me teacher, recently asked if there was something special my daughter would like to learn. I told her my daughter is obsessed with makeup. A few weeks later, the other children in class were all absent. Emmy pulled out a bag of makeup that she had been saving for the occasion. She then devoted the entire class to teaching my daughter about makeup terminology by letting her play with the makeup and even giving her a pedicure! My daughter was in heaven. Because my daughter is being taught in a way that interests her, in an environment where she feels safe and loved, her Chinese is developing astonishingly quickly. Although neither myself nor my husband speak Chinese, all day long my daughter rattles off Chinese words, songs, and rhymes that she learned at Ni Hao! My husband and I are so grateful to Ni Hao for enriching my daughter's life and blessing her with this incredible educational and social experience. read more

My son has been going here since he was 3 1/2 and he is 5 years old now. What I really like about this school is how caring and involved the teachers and the staff members are. Our whole thing was to get our kids acclimated and exposed to other languages and have fun while doing it so when my, I kid you not, 3 1/2 year old boy told me that he wanted to try Chinese School for the summer, I didn't hesitate and went straight to Ni Hao. Lisa-the director knows all the kids' names and even knows what the children are working on. I can ask her how my son is doing and she will tell me, or she will ask the teacher and get back to me which I think is great. You can tell that everyone that works there truly loves working with kids. They are always smiling and joking with the kids. They currently have a service where they will walk kids from a nearby school to Ni Hao after school. Too bad for me that we don't live that close, but they did just acquire a cute van to start carpool services for schools in PV. i think it's so cute when I hear my kids come home singing Chinese songs and how amazing it is every time I hear them speak to my husband in Chinese. We now upped his classes to 2x/week and on Fridays (which is included if you take a regular class) they have Culture Day/homework help day which is great for parents like me who do not speak the language. Fridays are more of a relaxed day where they get to do fun activities and arts & crafts. If you are looking for a Chinese School in the Torrance/PV area, I highly recommend you check this place out. We signed our kids up to encourage and strengthen brain activity so that they will strive to become high achievers. They have learned so much. Our 8yr old can write and understand over 250 characters and our 7yr old about 150. They both really love their teachers Joyca Lau Shi, Ma Lau Shi and Wei Na Lau Shi. The owner and office staff are all so kind and professional. They have really been very helpful to me and my husband who do not speak Chinese at all. My daughter started coming here in 2013 just after she turned 3 and is now 6.5 years old. Prior to this I took her to mommy (even though I a dad) and me classes at the Palos Verdes High School in Lunada Bay on Saturday mornings. That one was a big waste of time and I would have left that one sooner but it was inexpensive and you had to pay for the entire academic year. 2 other families in that class also later joined Nihao so it re-affirmed my decision. Nihao has been great, I don't speak mandarin so I can't help my daughter but I have taken her here for culture day (free, but we haven't gone for quite some time because it doesn't fit in our schedule at the moment but I'm happy to know its there), she attends 2 classes and sometimes I have her there for a 3rd as a private lesson. We have also started the art classes and go on sunday mornings. There are at least 6 families that I know in her Kindergarten school that also attend here. read more

Hi, I have been meaning to write a review for this school for a very long time. Lisa is the owner and she is very personable. My boys have been going to this school for about 2-3 years. We are not Chinese, and do not speak Chinese at home. I have seen that my boys have learned the language, though it is a slow process. Just stick with it. I took Chinese for a bit to help reinforce what they are learning in the school. It is quite a difficult language for English speakers, but I feel that my boys' teachers have really taken care to work with them individually. Lisa continuously takes the school in a positive direction and we will continue to stick with them. They have programs that continue on past the preschool years. The Parent and Me class has been a wonderful way to introduce our kids to Chinese. We have been attending for a few months with our toddlers. The teacher, Sandy, is terrific and engaging. Each class introduces and reviews basic words and concepts in a fun, interactive and age-appropriate way. My daughter goes to Ni Hao Chinese and she is having a great time both learning about the language and the culture. I have tried/researched many other Chinese schools such as yak academy, Ivy, South Bay Chinese at West High - but Ni Hao is the best. I like NIHao for the many reasons: 1. Lisa Hsu is the director of the school and she takes the time to test the student for proper placement of level and even adjusts accordingly after session starts 2. Textbooks are excellent with lots of pictures and some English instructions for easy reinforcement at home by the parents 3. Very clean and organized classroom setting 4. Very small classes done on purpose to ensure best learning experience 5. Teachers eager to teach and care about the students. And they talk to the parents to continuously update parents on the child's progress 6. After each lesson, the child takes home a paper that shows assigned homework and any other teacher comments. Shows organization and teacher-parent communication in this school 7. Any questions to Lisa are responded in a timely manner and always open to suggestions to make improvements. 8. Culture day allows students to experience the Chinese culture, music, create new friends, and enriches the experience 9. 1v1 attention when needed. Students are kept longer to practice particular areas if need. That is a big difference as compared to other Chinese schools. As a parent, I want to make sure my money and time is working hard for my daughter's education and future success in this global economy. We have been with nihao for 5 years now and can't say enough about how Fantastic this school is. First off my son is learning so much due to the interpersonal and engaging instructors. They always have a fun activity for the kids to participate in and my son can't wait to go to school. He has learned so much he is teaching me at home. Secondly the administration is so so so wonderful. They are always willing to work with parents and bend over backwards to make sure requests are handled in a professional timely and courteous way. I cannot say enough about Lisa the director at ni hao. She is amazing and very catering understanding empathetic to the parents. She will help resolve any situation or concerns parents have immediately. And has several times assisted w helping me resolve other issues I have concerning my children on the side.
