I really love katsu, so I got the Pork Katsu plate, which comes with a scoop of rice and your choice of side (I chose potato salad). I loved the crispiness of the pork katsu, it came nice and hot. The Japanese rice was carb heavy, just how I love it. The potato salad was good, although I typically crave a macaroni salad with my Hawaiian plated food. There was a huge line when I arrived, and I was afraid, very afraid. However, it was a bunch of people standing around who had already ordered (another sometimes bad sign). But, I actually ordered without any line, and those people quickly dissipated. My food probably came within 10 mins. In that 10 mins, we ate the poke first, then got our Ichiban order quickly after. The two restaurants are so close together by driving, that I would highly recommend pairing the two restaurants together, if you want to share food items, and try different Hawaiian things, without making an extra trek. Would definitely recommend it right after getting off the airplane too! I can't say it was worth driving here all the way from Kaanapali though, since there's nowhere to sit down. There's a parking lot right at the restaurant itself, and it's just to-go, but you are allowed to eat in the parking lot. So can't really say much about ambiance. The service was quick though, and credit card was allowed. Not bad.

I'm always on the lookout for good BBQ, and it's nice that in Hawaii we are getting more and more…read moreoptions. So when I was in Kihei not too long ago, I settled on this joint. The wagon shares a lot with a seafood place and what I think was a shave ice stand. There was plenty of off-street parking. It was a blazing hot day, made worse by pavement and a lack of shade or much greenery. You have to walk over some gravel to place and get your order. The window of the truck is very high; I could barely reach it. They do take credit cards. The owner is nice and chatty, and was busy flirting with the young women in line in front of me. Since I never know if I'll be back to a BBQ place, I always go for a sampler plate. The three meat option set me back $25, but the portions were generous and could easily feed two, or maybe even three if their appetites were light. I don't care for coleslaw, so I asked for a double heap of potato salad. But my request was forgotten and I ended up with coleslaw anyway. I was told I could change it, but I didn't want to waste food. The owner said it was pineapple coleslaw and that people who didn't like coleslaw liked it. (I didn't care for it.) There were some tables and chairs but no umbrellas or shade. I was told the unbrellas kept getting blown away or stolen. I didnt want to eat in the car so I sat at one of the tables and hoped for a breeze. The meats I chose were brisket, chicken, and pork ribs. The brisket was best, soft with a nice smoke ring. I tried the house-made BBQ sauce; it was the thin and vinegary type. It was okay, but mostly I went without it. The chicken is usually my favorite, but it came in second here, being a little on the dry side. The biggest disappointment was the pork ribs. The meat was really tough and had to be dragged away, kicking and screaming, from the bone. (It should fall right off.) I liked the potato salad. If I ever go back here, I'll just order a half-pound or pound of brisket by itself.

It was a great decision. The wedding and reception were outside, at the oceanfront with waves crashing in the background, late afternoon into evening. The food was fabulous. I'll let the menu speak for itself: Passed appetizers: - Strawberry and pineapple skewers - Coconut shrimp with marmalade - Brie and mushroom in pastry cup with mango chutney - Kalua pork pot stickers with BBQ sauce - plus a terrific sushi and sashimi bar. Dinner stations: - "Island Favorites Buffet." Kalbi ribs, macadamia nut crusted mahi mahi with passionfruit beurre blanc, wasabi potato casserole, and sugar snap peas with sesame and ginger. - "Carving Station and Salads." Sirloin of beef and pork loin, with mint jelly, Maui Gold pineapple chutney, and horseradish sauce. Hawaiian sweet bread rolls. Upcountry baby Romaine with Kula corn, dried mango, toasted macadamia nuts, and citrus vinaigrette. Marinated Kamuela tomatoes, shaved Maui onions, and Surfin Goat dairy cheese crumble. - "Stir Fry Station." Beef, shrimp, scallops, chicken, tofu, an assortment of vegetables, Soba noodles, penne pasta, jasmine rice, ginger garlic sauce, lemongrass sauce and spicy coconut sauce. - And the shusi/sashimi bar continued through dinner. Dessert was Chef Gannon's famous individual pineapple upside down cakes with vanilla ice cream (with bowls of berries for those that couldn't do the dairy/gluten issue). The presentations, serving setups (ie, marble slabs for the sushi station) and attitude of the staff were all as good as it gets. Even Bev Gannon herself showed up pre-wedding to see how the setup was going.

I had been initially referred to Tiffany Ward through my wedding coordinator & I'm so glad I booked Tiffany. I booked them in 2016 & unfortunately had to postpone our wedding to 2019 due to health reasons & chemo treatment. Tiffany was very understanding & was so wonderful to work with. She was responsive with all my emails, texts & phone calls. She also coordinated the equipment & furniture set up so it was one less thing for me to focus on. Tiffany helped me determine how much alcohol to purchase & accomodated my guests' dietary needs (gluten & chocolate allergy). Tiffany made our wedding go so smoothly. The appetizers, drinks & the main course meals were amazing! The tri tip was medium rare (cooked to perfection) & the mahi mahi was amazingly lousy & tasty! It's so difficult to cook for large catered groups that I wasn't expecting too much. Wow, was I blown away by the food! I ate as much as I could during dinner. At the end of the evening Tiffany had kindly packed a meal for my husband & me. Once we got home around midnight, we devoured our packed meals & they were just as tasty! Tiffany catered & helped coordinate a large part of the wedding. She also set my the ceremony chairs, reception tables w/ the centerpieces, a kids corner with blankets & pillows, 2 separate lounge seating areas for the guests. She also had to coordinate where our shaved ice vendors, malasada delivery & Photobooth vendors would set it. The day went along so smoothly mainly due to Tiffany. I highly recommend Maui Catering Services!

With the top down in our rented BMW, the drive to the farm was magnificent and set the perfect tone for the day. When we arrived, we were greeted at the gate by Jake, who welcomed us as we waited for the rest of the guests. Once inside the open-air kitchen, Whitney warmly introduced herself and gave us a brief overview of the schedule. Jake then shared an introduction to the land and his farming philosophy. As a former finance manager, I appreciated how clearly he understood both the economics and the regenerative methods that make the farm sustainable and healthy. We began with introductions, sharing where we were from, our names, and what we were grateful for which created an immediate sense of community. Jake then guided us on a tour of the farm, walking us through the plants and trees that would soon become our lunch. We tasted herbs, vegetables, and fruit straight from the earth. His depth of knowledge, from soil health to post-harvest practices was impressive, and he thoughtfully answered every question. After the tour, we moved into meal preparation. Family-style, we chopped, stirred, whisked, and even made our own tortillas. The fresh salsa had a wonderful bite, and preparing the vegetables and eggs ourselves made the meal even more satisfying. To top it all off, we enjoyed a homemade vegan ice cream made with fresh fruit from the farm, the perfect ending. Jake and Whitney were gracious, kind hosts who mingled easily with the group and created an environment that was both educational and welcoming. We highly recommend this class. It was not only delicious, but deeply informative and memorable.
