DONT believe the hype . I did my research weeks before coming here and was so excited to come. Even the owner seem so pleasant and cool on social media until come to find out he's actually a jerk in person. atleast through my experience. Drove 40 minutes to for this appointment to be turned down after being a few minutes late due to not being able to find the entrance. I was on the phone with reception the entire time trying to find the entrance, I'm explaining to her what is it that I'm seeing so she knows I am in the location but it's unclear as to where the entrance is and her exact words were "please try to hurry because we do have a 5 minute lateness policy" and it was already 3 minutes into my appointment. I was already rushing stressing out to find this entrance and when I finally found it which was probably two minutes after she said that the receptionist tells me over the phone, "am sorry but we won't be able to take you" as I am coming in I see the owner Nick and I ask him like hey I literally was here this whole time I just couldn't find the way to get in and his exact words were "well we do have a 5 minute late cancelation policy so I wont be able to take you cause it would make me late for my next appointment" I booked the wax and tint so I asked him after he said that if there's anyway you can atleast clean up my eyebrows with out the tint and with out even thinking about it he said "no". I'm sorry but if your customer already paid for the full service you can atleast say as a owner I can't do the full service but I can try to clean it up or try to do what I can with the time remaining. he didn't do any of that he just walked away and instead went outside and was talking to his friends with 25 minutes left to my appointment he definitely had enough time to at-least clean up my eyebrows even if he couldn't tint them. I more than anyone understand people have their policy but as the owner of a company you have to learn to work with people. The attitude he gave you would think I was 25 minutes late for my appointment. I tried reaching out after that to see if he could atleast reschedule and he never answered. That was literally $65 down the drain that for some people is a lot. At this point is not about the money, or him not taking me it's the poor customer service and attitude from the owner himself which was very disappointing. Worldwide pandemic? Same five star rating. I thought it would be appropriate to review how businesses are operating during COVID-19. Nicck Townsend and his staff were professional and very sanitary. One of the young ladies at the front desk came out when I approached the front door and asked for my name and appointment time. She said I would be called in when they were ready for me. Less than five minutes went by and I was called in. Upon entering, I was told to sanitize my hands with hand sanitizer provided by the salon. Vira (the senior brow stylist) took care of me and did a fabulous job. It was my first time getting my brows done by Vira. I definitely recommend booking her when Nicck is not available. She explained what she was doing and why she was doing it. The entire staff was wearing masks while I was there. Vira and Nicck disinfected their tools and sprayed down the chairs after each customer. The whole place was spotless, as usual. Sucks because I really wanted this to be my go to. Loved my first appointments where I wasn't kept waiting more than 5 mins. It was busy and I didn't mind. But there's something cruel and pretentious about being 8 minutes late, turned away and then charged. I get it. Businesses have to function. But it's rush hour and there's a 5 minutes detour off Ridge Avenue. So, never going back. Good thing there are lots of options not far. I suggest Dream Lash right down the road. Love it here! Love the location, which easy to get to. They have a parking lot too but it can get packed quickly. Love the ambience and set up of the studio, the snacks and the packaging for purchases. All of the staff is friendly and nice. Appointments start on time and Nicck only focuses on you and isn't doing other things. The service is pretty quick, even if getting dye. I've only been serviced by Nicck twice and each time was a 5 star experience. I am very happy with my results and THEY LAST. It would be nice if more empathy was shown for new customers trying to learn how to navigate the area. Additionally, if possible, please consider not taking for services not rendered when an appointment is cancelled. It is already an unfortunate experience for new customers who genuinely did their best to get there. This is not feedback about Nick personally (as we did not have the opportunity to meet), just something to consider regarding customer service from one professional to another. I also don't disagree with penalizing people who are inconsiderate enough to be repeatedly late. But, a little forgiveness or empathy for new customers (who are 6 min late) might be a consideration on their first appointment. I would have loved to have learned more about Nick and his services. Update: The owner graciously reached out to me regarding the gratuity that was charged. The matter has been resolved quickly. When a company shows that they can address an issue within reason, that says a lot about their level of service and can typically satisfy a customer's concern. I debated writing this review, but after much thought and driving 2.5 hours getting there and 2.5 hours driving back considering it was an all day event and time is money..... I decided to write this review. My appt. was at 10:00 am. on 9/6/23. I was late, but according to their grace period of 5 minutes, I was not late for the scheduled appointment. The owner couldn't see it. Not to mention his next appt. (his 10:30 a.m.) was my sister. He still told me NO. I have bought all his products and my other sister had an appt. on 8/19/2023. Meaning he just lost three customers. I must say the service itself was top-notch. The staff here are skilled and attentive, and my sisters left with perfectly shaped brows that exceeded my expectations. However, my experience with the owner was DISSAPOINTING. While the employees were warm and accommodating, I found the owner's demeanor to be less welcoming. It would have been a more enjoyable experience visit if the owner had exhibited the same level of friendliness and professionalism as the rest of the team. Despite this, I will recommend the shop for their exceptional brow shaping service itself. If you can overlook the owner's attitude, I just can't let anyone treat me like that. I have been going here for years and it has been my go to eyebrow spot. I even got a couple friends and my mother to start going, too. Undoubtedly they do great brows, but my issue is with their late policy. I have never been late to an appointment prior, but today, Scotts Lane going up to the business happened to be closed off which prevented me from making it to my appointment on time. I was not aware of this beforehand. (Not like it's broadcasted on all the news channels or something.) Unfortunately, I was 10 minutes late due to many detours around town to enter the business from another direction. Upon arrival, I was told I could not get my eyebrows done because I was late, which I understand. I would not want to push their schedule back. The part that was offsetting to me was the fact that they took my deposit despite it not being my fault that I was more than 5 minutes late. I spoke to Vera and Nicck and received the same cold "it's in the policy" response. I will not be returning due to the inflexibility of this business to understand that sometimes unexpected things do happen. And what's even more frustrating is I've had to wait so many times on their couch because they were behind schedule, but never once complained because I understand things DO HAPPEN! This salon has the worst customer service I've ever experienced. I booked my eyebrow appointment using their online tool for a week later than I thought. When I got to the studio and told them I thought my appointment was today and I can't make it next week, they wouldn't reschedule my appointment to any other time. Just flat out refused to allow me to change the appointment to a time that works for me even though it was a week in advance. They did take my $65 though and told me I could rebook the appointment and pay again (to pay a total of $130 to get my eyebrows done once). I've also emailed their customer service multiple times and nobody has responded to me. Very dishonest business with ridiculous policies. read more

Terrible customer service. Never again. And I will be contacting the Better Business Bureau to report this business. They're thieves. I called on 2/24 to cancel an appointment I had on 3/7. I asked about a refund of my deposit. I was told I would not receive a refund because it's "in the contract". I asked to speak with a manager and Mr Townsend called me back with major attitude and again eluding to the contract. I will never step foot there again. I wouldn't know how well their work is, I wanted to try them out before my wedding to see if I wanted to come back. They have a 5 minute grace period rule which is absolutely absurd. My appointment was at 4 and I got there 4:08. It's not like it's easy to find parking in that area. I wasted time to get there and my appointment was cancelled as soon as I walked in. With these type of rigid rules he won't be in business long. I will never ever step foot there and I will make sure all of my friends know on every media I have available. My problem is they didn't even care that I took my time coming there. I had an appointment and was 8 minutes late because there was so much traffic. My friend and I had back to back appointments for a half hour each and it was my first time coming. My friend got her eye brows done and it literally took 10 minutes. We had AN HOUR blocked off for two appointments for a 10 minute service and her eyebrows were a bit uneven after all of that. Because I missed the 5 minute "grace period" they wouldn't see me or transfer my deposit to another appointment. If you are busy and I'm a few minutes late that's one thing but they chose not to see me to prove a point, it was just spiteful because you have a full hour to do two 10 minute services. AMAZING! AMAZING! When I say that Nicck Townsend is a MIRACLE WORKER! Due to over waxing and tweezing my brows hardly grow now and had no shape. I've been growing out my brows for over a year in hopes of correcting the shape and getting a fuller looking brow. What would normally take 5-10 mins at your local nail salon, takes Nicck about 30-35 mins. Now you may be thinking that that's a ridiculous amount of time to spend on brows but trust me, the way he analyzes the proper shape for you face, cuts, tweeze and waxes each hair to perfection, it is well worth the time! Prior to booking I heard a great deal about Nicck's eye brow shaping and tinting services. A few friends had gone prior to me and were always satisfied. On the day of my service I arrived a few minutes early, as to not violate the well explained and reiterated late policy. When I arrived the door was locked to create a safe environment for each client during Covid. The receptionist walked to the door, asked if I had an appointment, and instructed me to wait while a previous client's services were completed AND the area was cleaned for my appointment. I was very impressed. Mostly because it was apparent from the appearance of the neat and well designed waiting area that pre covid guests were permitted to wait inside the salon. I was appreciative that Nicck and his staff thought to adjust their standard procedure beyond what was merely necessary to keep the space clean and safe. When I came in there was sanitizer waiting, which I was asked to use by the very pleasant receptionist, and I was instructed to meet Nicck at his chair. He was very polite and asked how I heard of him and when I last received a brow service. After I answered he went straight to business and began drawing lines on my face to properly shape my brows to my facial features. I appreciate that Nicck was not dismissive of my eye brows as they were, and actually complimented their natural shape. I have experienced some artists who engage with new clients in a way meant to shame them for not seeking their services sooner, instead of allowing their work to speak for them. I did not feel like he rushed, and I could see by the look on his face that he was taking great care with attention to my brow shape. It's also worth mentioning that the wax Nicck used did not hurt, smell bad, or leave my face sticky at all. During my service we did not talk much, but that did not offend me as I respect and appreciate the need to focus when working. When Nicck was done, he handed me the mirror and I was immediately impressed! Having received the shaping only (without tint) I was doubly impressed by how full Nicck was able to keep my brows. M first appt was a couple of weeks ago. I walked in to the place, and the environment was very welcoming, pleasant and Nicck was very nice. He took his time looking over my brows, lining them up and brushing them. Finally he applied the wax and went to town. After looking in the mirror I was pleased. I didn't get the results I thought I'd get, well compared to everyone else. But considering how sparse, uneven and over-plucked my brows were before, I was definitely satisfied with the after. So here I am, 3 weeks later and I love them more than when I first got them done. I was going to wait until the next visit to review but I couldn't. My brows have grown since having them done and have grown into the shape Nicck originally envisioned and I love them. I've been going to Nicck since July or August. The Asian $10 per wax had totally destroyed my brows. When I fist met Nicck he told me to give him 5-6 months and would only do touch ups every four weeks. I was veeerry doubtful as I had been screwed over so many times. Recently having moved to Philly from Chicago, my eyebrows were in need of a nice touch up. I used to get them threaded back home, but Nicck explained that with threading, there is no good way to really shape and personalize eyebrows to each person's face. So, all right, I said, let's get on with the waxing and plucking. Nicck was very precise and detail-oriented. He really takes the time to shape your eyebrows to fit your face. He is an expert and although never having my eyebrows waxed before, I felt completely comfortable in the hands of Nicck. Price can be a bit much (if you're used to getting your eyebrows threaded on Devon Ave in Chicago for $5), but this a different experience. I am not a high-maintenance person, beauty-wise. Years of traveling and/or bicycle commuting got me out of the habit of bothering with make-up and I still rarely wear any. As far as manicures go, I think I've had 4 in my adult life. So professional eyebrow shaping was not really on my radar. Until I saw my sister a while back and hers were great! This week marked my third visit in three months to Nicck, and just as the first time, I was impressed. In fact, I was even happier because my brows are now framing my face much better than they were before! I have found that I haven't even had any maintenance to do on my own for my brows in between my second visit and this week's visit. That in itself shows just how well he has tamed my brows! The salon itself is clean, beautiful, and gives off a very luxurious vibe. Within the time that you have scheduled with Nicck, there is no other customer allowed in his salon except for you. I can not begin to tell you how wonderful my brows look since Nicck has been shaping them for 3 months. I came to him via Instagram ( after searching for someone amazing to my brows )and I couldn't be more pleased! The 1st time I went in for him to correct all the wrong doings of other technicians ( and a little of me try to fix them ) , I felt right at home and relaxed from the moment I walked in his salon doors. His salon is beautiful, clean, modern and completely perfect. BEFORE THE SERVICE: Okay.....so i would love to give this gentleman a 5 but unfortunately the "experience" didn't live up to 2 months i waited for. I have been following Nicck on Instagram for about a year now....was never able to book an appointment because he's always so booked. I finally found a date that i can make things happen for. I am a south jersey resident but work in Trenton. Now my work schedule is 9-6:30 everyday...i made sure to leave work at 5 & to book the latest appointment available so i would be sure to not be late (i am a cosmetologist & makeup artist so i know how IMPORTANT being on time is in this industry). Driving from Trenton to this part of philly is an hour ride...WITHOUT TRAFFIC. Unfortunately, it was rush hour...hence why i gave myself an extra half hour. I get to the area of the salon (@ about 6:20 so be mindful i just drove an hour & half to make this appointment I've been dying to go to for MONTHS) to see that there is some type of fashion show going on next door...absolutely nowhere to park. THE ACTUAL SERVICE: So when i get there i had to park so far that i was having a hard time finding the building. I call them & the lady comes out to find me. So now I'm like okay cool...we're making small talk on our way into the salon. As i walk in i see that they're cleaning up as if they're getting ready to leave (which is fine....that's not what bothered me. I get it you want to go home right after your last service). The space was spotless btw! Nicck is there wiping down the seat. I say hello...he says hello back & tells me to have a seat. I put my stuff down, have a seat, & he literally asked me 2 questions. They were "how did you hear of me" & "when was the last time i got my brows done." He starts waxing my brows..............................doesn't say another word for the rest of the service. Literally 9 MINUTES LATER HES HANDING ME THE MIRROR & TELLING ME TO HAVE A GREAT DAY. The young lady asked me if i still had the same card on file & if it was okay for her to charge it. I said yes & they sent on me on way. I was walking out of the salon at 6:39. MY ISSUE: In this business your clients are your money makers & you have to create an experience that's worth the price you're charging. Before Nicck I was going to a young lady named Tai (Benefit Brow Bar @ Ulta in Deptford) who does an equally amazing job for half the price. When looking at Nicck's Instagram you can clearly see he's the best of the best. I was a first time client...who didn't get a consultation, booked 2 months in advanced, drove an hour & a half, & IS ROOTING FOR ANYONE WHO IS BLACK MAKING A NAME FOR THEMSELVES. I SUPPORT BLACK BUSINESSES ANY CHANCE I GET. I waited 2 months for a 9 minute service that i could of gotten at the nail salon (sorry but true) & paid $40 for it. So my point is if you're in a rush...or don't want to be there past 6:30 then take that time slot off your website sweetheart. Don't rush my service because you're ready to go home.
