My relationship with Gustavo began the day the salon opened and is still very much in its honeymoon phase. I have seen many hairdressers and colorists in my life but the professionalism and talent with which Gustavo treats me and my hair is undeniable. He works with me to make sure that I get exactly what I want. The one time the color ended up not exactly what I had in mind, he stayed late to fix it, because he wanted to make sure I don't leave the salon unhappy. If possible, I'd give this salon zero out of five stars. When I first got to the salon, I had high hopes because of the positive feedback I've read about this place. I came with a party of 3 to get hair and makeup done for prom. I had asked for a half up half down look for my hair, but even before I left the salon, all of the pins started to fall and slip. When I got home, I even had to recurl my hair!! The nightmare doesn't even stop there. One of my friends with me had gotten her makeup done first. When hers was done, I saw a tear roll down her face. She hated the makeup she had received and was too embarrassed to tell the artist. After the hair, I went over to the makeup station where the artist had asked to see a picture of what I wanted. The result of my makeup looked so horrendous and nothing like the photo I had asked for- a pink champagne color on the eyes with winged eyeliner. I'll be honest, I cried in the bathroom-- I was on a time crunch. It was so bad I had told my second friend with me to tell the receptionist that she would no longer want the makeup service. After complaining to the owner, he was extremely rude to us, raised his voice at us and caused an entire scene in the salon while he attended other guests! He was absolutely disrespectful and even threaten to call the police after we had told him we were unhappy with the service. After leaving the salon, I had to cover my face with a hood because so many people were staring at me. I have never been so embarrassed in my life. Called me classless (real mature name calling) , posted my career information (like why does that matter) and few other false statements including what the price included (guess doesn't want his insane price out there on Yelp). . He has since updated his response but read on and see the show when you post an unfavorable review and his playground name calling and lies. Surprised he didn't say my mother dresses me funny. My hair was a mess? It had a Keratin treatment & upscale products & services prior to you. I do go to the salon frequently because I am very gray. Yes - I kept returning because I "prepaid for a package! I moved into the city and needed a new salon AND it's your product - your brand -so why wouldn't I ask Tundella to do the re-tape & blowouts? I am not bargaining price but merely stating you are the most expensive option. Did I ask for a refund? Email (from the co-owner): I can not fix the issue myself as I can't do hair and Gustavo has clients prebooked weeks in advance . I offered you to come in but you are writing another review. Not sure , what exactly you are trying to achieve by that. This is all ridiculous as obviously the situation is created where there is no reasonable cause . NO REASONABLE CAUSE? You haven't even seen the issue. I NEVER demanded Gustavo do the blowouts but asked that a new assistant understand the texture of my hair and my goal before tackling the blow out. In fact, Gustavo never did ONE blowout. Is asking for an experience stylist an unreasonable request for an upscale salon that you call yourself? The day I left upset was a scheduled appointment at 10am (you open at 10) with Gustavo so that person did not make a special trip for me. Keep exaggerating though. Then when I repeated that no show experience to someone you exaggerated again. She was not an existent client as she told the story. But I regress - Yelp is about my experience. MY REVIEW: I wrote a review last week but removed it because I was assured things would be rectified. I am still waiting. I started this journey beginning of May or so to help grow out my shorter hair. I paid $ 800.00 (for a little more than 2 packs) although other salons are $ 500.00 That DID NOT INCLUDE COLOR AS THAT WAS DONE AT THE PRIOR APPOINTMENT. I thought I was paying for quality hair at a top salon but it's one issue after another. I even actually had TWO scheduled appointments with Gustavo where he didn't even show and the stylist covering couldn't reach him. I had a blow out package and no one knows how to record it properly and I believe blow outs were subtracted when I didn't even get the service. I also paid for color and blow out package and it got confusing considering no one but the owner knows how to do that record keeping in the system. Of course, they defend that as well as their product being superior and priced right (as the previous reviewer stated). Forward to my first re-tape at least 25%of the hair was not needed. Rich did the re-tape and he is spot on with everything. Zero complaints. Top quality stylist in my opinion and I left looking 10 years younger. The second re-tape with another stylist had no rhyme or reason in where they were placed and too far back from the frame of the face. So I have short sides and a long back. A great look if you are stuck in the 80's or want Pat Benatar hair or want to sport a half mullet. It was even further cut to help blend it???? I asked for the dead ends from the bangs growing out to be removed and a good 2 inches was cut off. Kinda defeats the whole purpose of getting extensions while you grow your hair out. What further blows is It added that 10 years back immediately and for an old hag like me, that's not a pretty site. I went back in and Rich attempted to fix the best he could with the time restraint and was told that the owner(s) would rectify and schedule me in. I'm still waiting for when it works for them. While it looks better from Rich's attempt to re-tape as many as possible because he had a time restraint, I still have a shelf look and a disconnect from the real hair to fake hair. As soon as this disaster of a re-tape is rectified, I will update the review. But it's over a week and counting. Not much different in the previous review with the disconnect of hair blending and no return calls although offers to make it right. It's like I'm begging at this point! Quality hair is meaningless unless it's installed properly. Don't waste your time unless you go to Rich at the salon. Clearly by their empty chairs and other reviews of high turnover, they need to zone in on why that may be. Good thing is for $800.00 I can find superior hair and spot on re-tapes (not part of the $800.00 as that is even another charge which is normal) elsewhere. I mean, look at me. I'm a hairy mess. I'm from L.A., and we don't do humidity well. It was snowing and raining and just a yucky gross mess in Philly. My daughter & I showed up and they just took us in like the wayward waifs we were; no judging, asking us exactly how we wanted it. But seriously, the blow-dry I got here just rocked the block. I had a groupon for a keratin treatment. I've had it done in the past so I know the process, and I know how my hair will react and what the texture will be for the next six months. As Sara said, I had Mark and he also talked me into the additional $50 for the Coppola. I agreed, and the entire process took about 2 hours. In the past my keratins took just under 4. Big difference there. Mark was excellent, and I would recommend him to anyone! However the product or process just did not work on my coarse thick hair. When I left the salon, my hair was awesome, but not like it had been with prior keratin treatments. (my own salon stopped doing them). I waited the 4 days to wash - and when I did, it was all frizzy and big again. REALLY? I was so disappointed, I just wrote this place off (and I can walk!). I'm headed back to Passyunk. Anyway - I was really hoping this would have been a positive result as it's just around the corner from me. I had to have the keratin done again, (a month later, and yes it took just under 4 hours, and it's awesome.) Hello! I usually get my keratin hair treatments done back home on Cape Cod, from someone whom I've seen since I was 17, I am now 22. It took me a while to work up the courage to see someone new in Philly, and due to the promotion special and good reviews on Tundella & Co, I chose their salon. My appointment was at 10am when they open, with Gustavo, who I waited 15 minutes for, and whom I later learned was the owner, and his wife Margarita was the one who made my appointment, and quoted me $125 (price of groupon for an organic keratin) plus an upgraded price for the Coppola keratin treatment, stating anywhere from 50-75 based on the length of my hair (which barely touched my shoulders). Over the phone I expressed how my roots are tight curls and she said it shouldn't be more than $75 for the upgraded fee (which would have totaled 200 at most). I was highly disappointed with the outcome of my hair, and the process in-between. I expressed I would like most of the keratin on my roots since the ends were still relatively fine from my last treatment a few months ago. The flat ironing process seemed like a complete joke to me also. The heat was definitely not applied long enough throughout my entire head, nor close enough to my roots. I received my treatment on the 17th and washed my hair on the 21st (cannot get hair wet for 48 hours minimum) and again, was extremely disappointed. My roots are still curly, and the texture of my hair was stiff and dry. I have received this treatment several times and have never been so upset or disappointed with the outcome. Also upset I was charged $220 total, when they were so keen on honoring me the groupon price of 125 plus 50-75 for the upgrade. Sorry to say that I will not be returning to Tundella & Co, and I do not recommend them for keratin if you have ethnic hair of any sort. read more

I have to say I'm not getting my hair done too often but this time I needed to go to event and decided to get a cut and Ombré. I came and friendly receptionist (she turned out to be an owner Margarita Gazaryan) offered me a beverage and asked to fill out a registration form. A professionalism level here is very high. I was in a stylist chair in 5 minutes. Gustavo (the other owner and a stylist) asked all necessary questions and did an excellent job with my ombré and a cut. I highly recommend this place for your hair services. They also do amazing hair extensions and keratin treatment for frizzy hair. FYI: they hired a licensed aesthetician recently, so waxing and facials are also on their menu now! read more

I came here with a Groupon for a $99 keratin treatment. Mark talked me into a $50 upgrade from the standard Organix to the Coppola. I can't tell you if the upgrade was comparatively worth it, but I was very happy with the results of the treatment. Mark was great about answering questions about the treatment & how to make it last. The salon is small, but cute and clean. And I won't complain about the complimentary wine! The downside is that this salon is a bit on the expensive side, and they are very concerned with marketing their products to you. For example, Mark kept trying to make me buy a $25 shampoo to preserve the keratin treatment, but I found a $7 shampoo that works perfectly. A bit annoying, but not the end of the world...I just prefer stylists who will be honest in recommending the best inexpensive product over whatever their salon is marketing. read more

Second time at Tundella. They tend to run on the pricey side. I came in with a Groupon for a cut, style and highlights. When I showed up, Mark had to come around the side and let me in because the locks on the front door had messed up the door. My appointment was with mark this time around and he did a quick consultation of what I wanted done, which was appreciated. One thing I noticed though was that one of the other stylist's nieces was hanging out in the salon and was essentially being babysat by that stylist. There was only me and another client but still. Also, there wasn't a receptionist at the desk during the first hour and a half of my appointment (which started at 11 AM) so the stylists were running back and forth to answer phones and letting people in. For the type of salon, I'd expect someone at the desk the entire day. Mark was good, got a good cut from him. My highlights came out a little too blonde for me though. I originally visited Tundella because my friend and bikini waxer, Irina, had begun working there two days a week. It was a great experience! I received a coupon for 25% off a haircut, and a follow-up email introducing me to the "Tundella concierge," an automated service that allows you to set up appointments, leave comments, etc. The salon itself is bright and clean, very pleasant, and easily accessible by any form of transportation. Parking is ample. Unfortunately, Irina doesn't work there anymore, but soon after that visit, I used my coupon for 25% off a haircut. It was the best decision I ever made. I'd been going to the same girl for over 10 years, but she lost her lease and although I could get my hair cut in her basement, I couldn't get it colored and I needed to find something else. Getting my hair cut (and sometimes colored) is a hugely therapeutic experience for me, and I get bored with my hair easily and do something extreme at least twice a year. The first time I had Gustavo cut it, I was so happy with the results that I told everyone I knew that they had to go to Tundella. Not only is the work of extremely high quality, but it's actually affordable! And unlike other salons, they suggest certain products for you to buy, but they don't try to talk you into anything you don't want. After I got comfortable with the salon, I started asking for more complex cuts, and I loved every single one. Finally, I decided to go for the bright, vibrant red highlights I'd been dying to put in my hair for ages, and I could NOT have been more thrilled. They were perfection. And Gustavo gave me lots of tips on how to keep the color from rinsing out too quickly, which is a risk that you take when you have dark brown hair and you get red put into your hair. I think it's a pretty big deal when a salon owner helps you to avoid having to come back and get your hair redone! Now, I'm growing out my hair for my sister's upcoming wedding, and it takes forever to grow out my hair -- usually because I get so annoyed with it, I chop it off. Well, it's long enough now for a ponytail and I'm still growing it! Gustavo manages to find some way to trim it and shape it so that I love how it looks, but he doesn't take off a ton of it and I can live with the length for a couple of months and let it grow. I can't recommend Tundella highly enough. Try it out, you won't be disappointed (despite the few negative reviews on here, which I'm sure were isolated incidents -- and as you'll see, the salon is quick to try and fix it!). read more

I visited Tundella awhile back when I couldn't get an appointment with my go-to stylist at my regular salon for a quick wash/trim/thin. I was in the area, they were able to fit me in at a time convenient for me, and at the time - they held 5 stars on yelp. The salon is cute and clean, nothing spectacular. While getting my hair washed the staff was very attentive and offered refreshments while keeping casual conversation. I thoroughly appreciated all of the recommendations made and still incorporate a few into my daily routine in maintaining healthy hair. Onto the cut.. My stylist was Zarah, friendly indeed, but looking back probably not the best match for my individual style. Zarah is a bit risky and her energy made me want to follow in suit. As previously stated I wanted a simple wash/trim/thin to which Zarah replied "I could do that or I could do.." and goes on to present this very Mad Men inspired cut. As the words "go for it" left my mouth, I immediately regretted it. Sure looking like Christina Hendricks SOUNDS great but how practical of a cut is that? Had I not just explained that I am hair challenged? I can hardly blow dry my own head. I digress. As expected (and feared), my hair was lopsided and took months to grow out. Though I do not doubt that Zarah is in fact a great stylist, she mentioned her time in London doing hair in fashion shows - the style just didn't work for me. Additionally when leaving, the Manager was super sweet and took time to ask how I felt about my cut and overall experience in Tundella as well as giving a percentage off my next visit at the salon. First the good: Gustavo is amazing-friendly and professional and applied my extensions with obvious expertise. Every staff member was very accommodating and made my visit very comfortable. Now for the cons: When one spends this much on extensions (human hair and was assured they were top quality) one expects to be told everything concerning what to expect. Starting from the day after I received my extensions, the ends started turning extremely dry, brittle and frizzy....not what I expected from top quality human hair. Since my extensions weren't really cut, it's also now very one-dimensional without layers/texture...not the most appealing look. After my first wash (complete with deep conditioning (very expensive brand I may add) treatment) today, it didn't get ANY better....so I called the salon and told them of my issue. Firstly, I was told that I wasn't fully filled in on what to expect...and that extensions tend to be drier than real hair. I wouldn't have gotten them in the first place if I had been made aware earlier at my initial consult! I was then told that a hair masque would help...so I applied one (again: another super expensive product that had never disappointed me before), rinsed AGAIN, towel dried, and applied an oil treatment (again, very high quality product) then blew dry. Surprise, surprise-no improvement. I hoped for/expected more given this salon's reputation as one of the best sources for extensions in Philly. Update: after my previous not so stellar review margarita reached out very soon after and extended an offer to make it right. And make it GREAT they did! Gustavo fixed my previously terrible extension ends (and informed me he had sent an email to the supplier...defects, though rare, remain a possible occurance after all.) with a trim and keratin treatment. Very happy with the condition of my extensions now and will remain a repeat customer happily! I have now been to Tundella & Co. twice for keratin complex treatments. I love this place!! Parking right out front has never been an issue. The inside is adorable and well lit. I had Anastasia this time and she was amazing! Very sweet girl who did an incredible job on my hair. I will absolutely book with her again. The owners, Gustavo and Margarita, and so sweet. Gustavo makes it a point to meet everyone who comes in. Margarita exemplifies 5 star customer service- they offered me a glass of wine while I was having my hair done and when I said sure, I'll have a red, Margarita didn't even tell me they were out but instead snuck out and bought more so that I could have a glass. If I could give this place 0 stars I would! I cannot believe all of the good reviews on this salon; worst experience ever and I spent $500.00! quick story ...went in for hair extensions. I have curly hair to start. Gustavo matched up the color but gave me straight extensions (tape). He assured me they would curl up and match my hair but if they didn't he could spot keratin the curly parts no problem. Paid $500.00 and left. BTW..I have been doing keratin for years and had hair extensions awhile ago and they were great..loved them). After having them a few days I hated them; they were straight my hair is curly..they made my hair look puffy and you could see the tape. The worst! They said to come in and they would keratin the parts that were curly. I went in someone else keratined my hair and she did all my hair including the extensions so now my extensions were even straighter still looking horrible and straighter than my hair. The tape showed and because he did wide pieces of extension with tape they hurt to sleep. My hair was so bad I went and had them taken out. Gustavo said he would fix them. I really dreaded the thought of going back but I also spent $500.00! I called several times spoke to his wife who told me hair extensions are non refundable. She said we can't use them again; I said NEITHER CAN I AND YOU HAVE THEM! She said she would talk to her husband and he would put in curly extensions. Call after call and no return call. Oh and get this..she said sorry no refunds you picked them we didn't make you get them. They were VERY patient in trying to help me vision what I want. When I walked out of the salon, I was unsure about my new haircut cause it was shorter than what "I wanted" and what we talked about. BUT, now I love it!!! After I washed the hair products off, it gave me the look I wanted without having to anything to it. I was in Philly for a wedding made an appointment to have my hair curled with a flat iron. I specified that my hair is super straight and fine, and a flat iron is the only tool that makes curls that actually last. I retierated this when I walked in, but the first stylist told me that it "would never work," and she wanted to use a large barrel curling iron. I had to fight her on it (I know from experience that curling iron curls do not last on my hair), but she insisted on comparing the curls from the curling iron and the flat iron. She realized that I was right, and started curling my hair before abruptly taking another customer. Only then did the appointment take a turn for the better! Kelsey (young, blonde stylist) took over and did an amazing job with my hair. She flat iron curled my entire head and made sure it looked perfect when I left. Even with a minimal amount of hairspray, the curls lasted through a rainstorm, six hours of dancing at a wedding reception, AND they still looked amazing when I woke up the next morning. read more

The cut was about $45, a steal for most salons. So I came back again today for highlights and am really happy with the whole experience. When Gustavo and Rita (the owner) of the salon saw my review, they started sending threatening messages to my cell phone. Not only did they threaten negative karma for my life by saying "what goes around come around," they said they will be posting a picture of my wedding dress on facebook (my wedding is in 6 weeks) in hopes of ruining my wedding day. It is very disappointing that i put my faith in a salon that could be so vindictive to a long time client I write honest reviews on yelp to help others know about my experiences, good or bad. Unfortunately I did not have a very good experience with this salon, I got to ask for some extensions of course I had my extensions I managed to talk to the owner and he told me that the price was between 295 to 400 approximately but I am going to give you a discount He said later that I decided to put them on, I went and the boy who put them on explained the procedure to me, but during the time that I put them on, he talked too much with other clients and that made the time drag on so as not to tell the story so long after 2 : 30 to 7:00 at night I paid 495 dollars to have them on for a single week since they left me loose and that created discomfort in addition to that when I collected my hair it was notorious because they looked at each other from the bottom and from the sides I called and they told me that it was Saturday of course I could not that day we left the appointment for the following week and it turns out that when I was going to the room the place was closed I went the next day and the same I opted to remove them as it was uncomfortable for me, besides that I had some pimples on my head, I definitely do not recommend it. They were overbooked, I was underwhelmed. It took over an hour for the man to even touch my head. And when he finally did, I ended up at the very back haircut...as he went between working on myself and the person with the appointment behind me. By close to 2 hrs into my stay I just wanted to get out, bad haircut and all. Thank goodness it's almost ponytail season. read more

And now the owner leaves ME a nasty review for leaving MY honest opinion of MY experience! Mind you I left that review over a year ago, and she just now cared to notice and give her 2 cents. Please grow up, and realize that your shop is not perfect, and maybe...just maybe...I didn't enjoy MY experience there. You act as if after I spent my hard earned money at your shop, and I looked in the mirror and wasn't completely satisfied that I'm supposed to be ok with it. I gave your establishment several visits, and the point is I wasn't happy. Period. Isn't that the point of this whole Yelp thing? To give yanno...your opinion. Did not get what I asked for at all and I am very disappointed and upset. I came with a lot of hair, plenty to work with and they cut all my hair off without even giving me what I showed them a picture of. I will not be coming back and do not recommend this place. Very cocky considering what they did. Good color though. Horrible cut. read more

Went back to the salon, as they offered to re-do the color which I had previously recieved and did not like. Gustavo did my hair and he did a great job correcting the color and giving me natural looking highlights. He was attentive and detailed and the salon redeemed themselves in my opinion! read more

I'm an obnoxious salon customer and I know it - I reschedule frequently and I am very picky without being specific about what I want. My biggest pet peeves about my last salon were a) the scheduler was a snob and b) I didn't like any one of the stylists' hair, so I was constantly worried I would end up walking around with trashy hair, even though everyone in the salon said, "it looks great!" All I want in my hair is classy and sexy. I knew I was in good hands because the stylists and clientele were both those things, so I trusted their judgement when they oo'd and ah'd. Katie did a fantastic job on my color; she took her time and made sure my hair processed just right. Margarita, one of the owners, was very sweet and hospitable. Super glad I found this place! I found them because of Groupon but call the salon first before buying it online to make sure it fits what you want. read more

Olivia Lushaj, the stylist here, is amazing. She had been doing my hair for over 2 years now, and I refuse to go to anyone but her. She makes my hair look sooo good and also is great with education. Because I cannot make my hair look good, ever, she teaches me what brushes to use, how to blow dry, things like that, so I can try and replicate the looks that she is able to produce. I still can't do it, but I'm getting there. Wayyyy better than before. If you're looking for a new hair stylist, go to Olivia! You won't be disappointed. read more
