They have a lot of cool, easy ramps for beginners and some intermediate but overall a really good skate park definitely recommended

I'm the Nana of a very busy 2.5yo boy! This park is wonderful! We visit SRB frequently from Ocala…read moreso having a few reliable outlets to play (besides the beach) is vital. There's plenty of shade from the trees and benches all around. There has always been plenty of parking, too. HMP has a variety of slides in all heights so littles have the opportunity to start small with a caregiver's help and move to tall ones as they gain confidence and mastery. The very small slides are separate from the medium and high slides to lessen the chance of injuries and anxiety. There are interesting additions in area like climbing walls, car/plane on springs for make believe, and letter/number rollers. At the swing set, there's one swing for children who need more safety equipment and 3-4 with seats and chains. Our little guy needed help to get on any of them. There's a high tire swing that also requires adult assistance for small ones. The metal climbing dome was too advanced for our guy but he looked pretty proud of himself going in and out of the bars. There was a lot of sand or small gravel to kick around underneath. It did seem to catch the leaves and litter more than other areas. I liked the 4x4 border that allowed our guy to practice his balance and do "tricks" ( jumping off to the sidewalk)! We haven't used the small covered area: 2-3 picnic tables. It would be perfect for a birthday party or picnic. I don't know about reservations. The splash pad has never been open when we were there but it looks well maintained. There also appears to be a skate park across the parking lot that I'm sure my guy would love to observe. So, is HMP recommended by this Nana? A resounding "YES" and a great big "thank you" to the management and maintenance crews!

Spread over 12 acres Lots of slides and activities. A miniature zip line, tire swing, regular swings, swings for smaller children plus a skate park, tennis courts, ball fields, indoor swimming pool inside the recreation center much more. There's picnic areas, a pavilion, grilling options, clean rest rooms, nicely landscaped with plenty of shade and it's wheelchair accessible with loads of parking. For address, directions and more: https://www.gulfshores.com/sports-facilities/johnnie-sims-park/ There's a number of special events around the year like music, movies, festivals and more but I'm so impressed with how community comes together for to support one another. For example, last night was a very nice event in our neighborhood for the Sims Park Christmas Celebration! There was the Rudolph movie playing, a petting zoo with camel rides, vendors, Santa taking pictures, holiday treats, crafts, hot cocoa & chili provided by our fire department and the 6th Annual Snowball Drop with prizes and more. After the cancellation last year it was a beautiful night that we were able to get out and meet up with friends and neighbors as meet some great folks. Bottom line: I'm feeling the Christmas spirit officially so Merry Christmas everyone!!
