Really great hobby shop for all things trains. My father recently got my girls a Lionel train set for Christmas so we stopped in here to see what other options were available to add to our new set. They have an amazing selection of trains, including all different gauges, also miniature buildings, animals, people and everything else for your trains set. We didn't have an opportunity to stay too long so I'll be back to take a more in depth look in the near future. The staff are very helpful and super knowledgeable so come with questions and leave with answers. They also have a display with several trains set up with buttons for people to try to see what lights up or makes sound. The trains were not moving while we were there and they were kind of busy in the lead up to Christmas so we didn't ask to have them running, but I'm sure they would have turned them on if we had asked. read more

A brick and mortar store that you hope will never shut its doors. They sell many unique toys, models, and trains, perfect for 5-12 year old birthdays or arrested 40 somethings. They recently cleaned up a little so it's less overwhelming and looks more like a store than a hoarder's wet dream. The employees are lovely on the first floor. This is a great train store for price and service. I called them 4pm on Friday, dealt with an extremely friendly salesperson (Brie), ordered 2 items which were hard to find yet priced much lower than any web site I had searched (including E-bay) and the items were delivered to my doorstep by 9:30 the next morning! I truly did not think hobby stores like this existed anymore. It was wonderful and wonderfully strange. The entire second floor is devoted to trains. It is jammed with merchandise. I have no idea how they know what they have in inventory, but somehow everyone working there knows where everything is when you ask. I am not an expert in model trains, but my 65 year old brother decided recently to create an HO scale layout in Michigan, and I'm visiting him in a few weeks and thought I'd bring him something interesting for his set. I purchased an engine, a rail car and a building. I had a great time and will be back. read more

I've always been very pleased with Nicholas Smith Trains. The IN-STOCK selection of the O Scale ARTTISTA figures is the BEST I've found. I live quite a distance from the store and always get FedEx delivery. The figures are always safely packed, and delivery is fast. This place is like walking into the Twilight Zone of trains and Toys. Many years ago, there used to be neighborhood hobby shops that carried toys and trains. This place is like going back into time. Downstairs is like a doll factory. They have tons of model figures too. Don't forget to go upstairs! All of the exotic trains are upstairs. From N gauge to G gauge. Stopped by with my kids to look at some toys, not your run of the mill toys, the ones from my childhood or collectible types. I was honestly surprised by the collection they had. There were Disney and old toy soldier types that I hadn't seen since I was a kid and it was awesome seeing my kids eyes light up looking at them. The prices are higher than I would expect but again it's a niche store and give them the benefit of the doubt that demand is lower due to the niche nature. My 4 year old was having a conniption, but this place is surely a diamond in the rough. I would have gladly purchased something if "our"attitude was a little more cooperative. I stumbled across this place at their recent tent sale and wound up walking out with around $30 of wooden Thomas trains for my son. The owner spent a lot of time talking to me and was willing to answer my questions. I can't imagine him not having anything a train buff would need. Then, a little over a month later, I brought my 2 year old son and wife here to buy him his first train set for his birthday. The owner, again, was as nice as can be and invited my son to play with the Thomas trains on the tables as long as he wanted. We then walked out with another $70 of merchandise. My wife has now told me she never wants to go to Toys R Us again. I think I agree. This is a local family business that is definitely worthy of your support, and will be a destination trip for my family hopefully for years to come. read more

I am a training novice but a friend gave me a bunch of O gauge track (old) so I thought I would give it a try. I went to Nicholas Smith Trains to get some addition track, cars and accessories. They sold me some track, 4 remote switches ($70 each) a new locomotive ($120 used) and some accessories. Total purchase was around $600. I had a hard time getting a layout I like so I went back 2 months later. I wanted to get a store credit for what I previously bought and purchase a new set (fastrack), some additional track and some more accessories. So I spend another $600 at the store (how stupid am I). The same guy I dealt with before told me that what I was bringing back was junk and would give me $50 for it. I explained that I had recently bought it from him and he said he didn't care, that he really did not want it back. He gave me $50 credit on my purchase for the $600+ stuff I just bought from him. After talking to a friend who knows something about trains I went back to the store to buy back the box of stuff that he gave me $50 for, since my friend told me that it was worth $350 - $450 on E-bay or Marketplace. I saw the guy in the store and when he saw me he ran to the back room and refused to come out and talk to me. The kid at the counter called him twice and he said that he was too busy to come out. Not only did he rip me off and take advantage of me - he would not even give me the courtesy of talking to me face to face. I will NEVER go back to this store and will tell anyone who will listen what a rip-off it is. read more

What a gem! Went looking for some model train tracks to use for an art project. Boy was I in for a surprise once I walked inside. Entering this place is like stepping back in time. The ground floor is packed with all kinds of toys. They have games, model planes, remote cars, and so much more, I couldn't explore it all. There is even a "doll room." However, nothing compares to the experience upstairs, it is floor to ceiling, packed with model train paraphernalia. Incredible. Prices are still hand written on the side of boxes or on little stickers from an old-school price gun. The staff is all exceptionally friendly, helpful, and knowledgeable. Expect to have a chat, not a place to rush in and out. A great experience overall. I'll be back for future art projects. read more

One of the best and most complete train stores I have ever been to! I try to go there once a week. They have so much it will make your head spin. I model in n scale and they have everything I want and need. Prices are very competitive even with online pricing. Staff is very cool, helpful and never rush you. New and preowned items available plus books, guides and magazines. You can literally get lost in this store! Go downstairs for the best in toys both past and present. Their models are great also, I saw a lot of things I used to have when I was a kid. They cater to all ages, and you can't be too old to enjoy this place or too young. Stepping into this store is, at least for me, a trip back to my childhood. The toy store on the first floor (the model train store is upstairs) is very small by Toys-R-Us standards, but its narrow aisles are crammed with the kinds of old-fashioned toys I used to play with, or longed for. My favorites are the die cast models of planes and tanks. I've fulfilled some of my childhood dreams, buying some of these die cast toys that I couldn't afford as a kid. I guess it's true what they say: that the only difference between boys and men are the price of their toys.... read more

While visiting this store my Deaf Autistic son was so elated with all the visual stimuli throughout the store he decided to lay down on the floor and vocalize happily (as how he typically expresses himself). To both my surprise and disappointment we were asked to leave and not return to this store. Obviously this person has a lot to learn about inclusion and folks with Autism. I'm very disappointed and will NEVER step foot in this place again nor recommend it to anyone. read more

I absolutely love this place! The downstairs has cool model cars and die casts as well. The upstairs is where I spend my time. The train selection is the best. I have been coming here for around 20 years. Their prices are cheaper than the online clearance sites and always have a nice preowned section as well. Fantastic staff, great selection, pricing is competitive with on-line (toy store section). The staff here are modelers and hobbyists themselves, not just clerks, so they like to 'talk shop' and are always happy to make suggestions. This used to be my go-to toy store. I've always supported my local stores over online retail whenever I can. It was nice to have one in the area, and I coughed up the substantially extra costs of items to support a local store. You'd think in an age when physical stores are going bankrupt every day because their owners can't figure out how to compete with online retail that the owners and employees of the stores would go out of their way to be friendly and to make coming into their store an enjoyable experience. Unfortunately, the owners/employees of this store have not learned that very basic lesson. The last few times I've shopped at this store, the counter-help have been very rude. "Pay for that on the other side of the counter." one of the cashiers snapped at us, The last time I went, the counter help snapped at me across the store not to touch something. Really? In a toy store? If you don't want your customers touching certain things, here's an idea: try hanging a sign. Regardless, you certainly shouldn't yell at your customers across the store. I will not be shopping in this store ever again. I'll buy what I was looking for online. If this store goes out of business because of their high prices and nasty attitudes, then hopefully other retailers will learn from their mistakes. read more

The store upstairs and down is like going to an old time toy store. It is a great place to check out - only gave it three stars because of the owner - what a pill - the best way to put is the money grubbing Mr Scrooge of retail - pay him but don't interact with him - he is awful - I am not so sure why he is in this business other than to get a large dose of misery everyday. He is knowledgeable about his passion for model railroading, but otherwise there is not much else to him. I wish I could say that was the way he was if I had been there one time, but have been there enough to say it is him - unhappy all the time. read more
