Massage: 5 VERY ENTHUSIASTIC stars Booking experience: 2 stars I have been to Nichole twice now, once before COVID and once this morning. She is an excellent masseuse. I have a lot of back and shoulder tension and she gave me just about the best deep-tissue massage I've ever had. Although it's been a while, I used to get massages every month or two, so I know a good massage. Nichole listened to what I said and used her judgment to address problem areas. I told her to skip the legs and feet and just focus on the back, and that was not a problem. 60 minutes on my back...heaven. Painful at times, but she was very clear that I should tell her what felt good and didn't. I chose to embrace the pain rather than asking her to back off because I wanted the session to be as productive as possible and I know working out knots pays dividends. Nichole also is happy to talk if you like a chatty massage, but she was happy to be quiet too. She took the lead from me and I appreciate that. I don't know what happened with this Groupon deal lots of Yelp reviewers mention, but those reviews are mostly from 6-9 years ago. I wouldn't let them influence you overmuch. Despite my positive experience at the appointment, you can see I'm rating the overall business at 4 stars. That is because booking the session was frustrating. Nichole uses an app to book all sessions (no text, no email, no calls) and you can book up to 29 days out. Originally when I tried to book, every single session was full. Okay, fine; clearly she is in demand. Not a bad thing. I eventually managed to wake up early enough to book a session on a weekday so I put in for a half-day of PTO. About three weeks later, a week before the massage, I got an email saying that the session was cancelled. I was annoyed but immediately went to her website to rebook, and she had switched booking services. I signed up for the new app, rebooked, and changed my PTO request. A few days later, I checked the new app again and ended up switching to a Saturday spot that had miraculously become available. Hallelujah, no need to use PTO! Then, a day before the originally scheduled massage, Nichole texted to confirm it. Alas, somehow the first booking app had erroneously sent out cancellation notices when she switched to the new one. This explained why the cancellation process had been so oddly impersonal; it wasn't supposed to have happened at all. I told her what I thought had happened and she confirmed that the Saturday spot--Booking #3--was in my name, and that Booking #1 would not count against my gift certificate. She was sweet and understanding. Phew. Walking out of my massage today, I immediately wanted to schedule my next massage. Got on the app; completely booked. Again :) I can definitely see myself going back to Nichole if I can manage to snag one of her 2 (3?) Saturday slots. However, because the booking process is SO hard here, I don't think I will look into the monthly massage package. I would be afraid to pay for massages when I might not be able to schedule them, particularly with the limited availability on weekends and the lack of weeknight appointments. I get it; it's a small business, and business owners need to do what works for them and their families. Clearly Nichole has lots and lots of loyal clients despite the booking system. If the booking system were to change to something easier to navigate and this business had a more flexible schedule, I would buy the monthly package today. read more

I have been to Nichole many, many times over the years, and I can honestly say, I have no need to try anyone else. I've had massages prior to going to her, and she is the best by far. Nichole has magic hands. She gives amazing massages that always leave me relaxed and happy with the experience. She is flexible in that you can let her know what is good, or if there's anything you'd like done differently. She knows the various massage strokes to a T, and she provides them in a very comfortable environment. She knows how to employ music, essential oils, and sets just the right atmosphere. Now that I've walked the earth for three decades, I'm not as spry as I once was. I'm still exercising like a madwoman---albeit not as intensely as I once did---but I get the most ridiculous injuries now. I recently had a swollen disc in my lower back from holding a yoga pose that used to be my all-time favorite pose. (I'm talking about the wheel / upward bow---or Urdhva Dhanurasana, fancy pants---if you must know.) I couldn't stand up straight, couldn't twist at the waist, couldn't even get out of bed without shouting out in pain. I had some other knots and pains going on in my shoulders and upper back, so instead of being hard on myself and hating my body, I made an appointment with Nichole Honeycutt for a deep-tissue massage. Honeycutt's office is located inside Broad Street Chiropractic on Broad Street, across the street and down a bit (toward campus) from Whole Foods. Park on the street or in the business's parking lot, up a steep driveway, round back of the building. This was by far the best deep-tissue massage I have ever had. Most people are afraid of hurting you (particularly if you're already injured, which makes perfect sense), so the pressure is too light, and others can use too much pressure. I'm getting over this, but I've always been a people-pleaser, so I have trouble sometimes speaking up if the pressure isn't quite right. But that wasn't necessary, since Honeycutt somehow knew exactly the right amount of pressure to use. And she is very strong! I was amazed that she was able to consistently use that amount of pressure for the full hour. I had her focus just on my back, since that was very much my trouble area, and---lo and behold---I stood straight up immediately following! Like with any deep tissue massage, your, well, tissue feels mushed up and bruised for a few days following. If you're fair-skinned like me, you may end up with a few visible bruises. But that feeling is such a massive relief compared to those twisted, tight knots that were there before! It's like that hard tissue just melted and fell apart. It finally relaxed after days of agony. I was a little cautious going into the appointment based on reviews. I like firm pressure, and am pretty picky when it comes to massages. I was given the LivingSocial as a gift, and was disappointed that I wasn't allowed to pay to upgrade it from a Swedish to a Deep Tissue. But I was very happily surprised! Nichole was very sweet and attentive. I mentioned that I had tense shoulders, ITB tension, and a scar on the bottom of my foot, and she dealt with them all appropriately. While it was lighter than I generally prefer, it was by no means "just putting lotion on" like so many others have said. She used long, gliding strokes and obviously knew what she was doing - I left feeling so relaxed! I almost fell asleep on the table. I got a groupon and was really excited to try this place. However, I was deeply disappointed!!! It is a WASTE of TIME and MONEY. Let me tell you why. I was told to be 10 mins earlier prior to appointment and that's what I did. Only found myself locked outside until it was appt time. Then Nicole came 10 mins late without even apologizing. It was unprofessional and a waste of TIME!. The massage, like others said, was more like a putting lotion on the body. The ridiculous part is when I asked politely if she could increase pressure (as she said, or advertised on her websitel, clients should make it clear what to be expected), I was told the only reason she could AFFORD discounted price for groupon is to do light-pressure massage, so although she can increase pressure, she can't do it for GROUPON. BUMMER. I have been to many massage prices and can definitely tell what a good massage is. And this IS NOT one of them. I also tried Groupon before and was never told I could only get DISCOUNTED SERVICE. This was the first time and totally surprised me. It is not smart for a business owner to do it this way to attract new customers like me. I was also planning to use their membership service, and as you can tell, that would never happen. I rec. a groupon voucher as a gift for this place, so I made my appt on a Saturday & was sooo excited about getting a nice massage & hopefully finding a great masseuse! I get there & talk with Nichole about "problem" areas & places she needed to focus on. 30 minutes into the massage none of my problem areas we spoke about had been addressed! What was the point of the mini interview session if your not going to focus on what is bothering me? I have been looking for a masseuse since moving to the Durham area & she is not it! Massage was okay, but didn't feel very alleviating of any stress points on my back or shoulders afterwords. Felt more like a day-spa experience than a therapeutic session, which is not so much my preference. Im giving this place 2 stars because after randomly checking Groupon for potential new therapists in the area, I stumbled upon this business. I called to see about the bamboo massage and s/he found out I potentially had a Groupon deal, the conversation quickly turned into talking about how Groupon deals were considered secondary. Just book people or don't! Talking to me about having to wait 2-3 weeks to make an appointment b/c i had a coupon was kinda a turn-off b/c. The tone was kinda negative and I cant imagine getting relaxed by this person. Im used to paying 100/hr for GREAT thai and combo massages in CA and NYC. * Note to this business... Never talk about that again with a new customer who doesn't even know if you are worth it yet. I don't understand why you allow Groupon only to make ppl feel less valued. When my masseuse of many years left the business, I wondered if I could find a comparable masseuse. Summary: I bought a Yelp deal in Jan and was finally able to schedule the massage in April, only to find out, AT THE LOCATION, that the massage was not a deep-tissue type, which is typical at any massage spa. Also, if you work full-time, you can forget about finding a slot because the therapist works part-time (two days a week) and Saturday appointments are all booked up. Details: 1. First off, it took me over 2 months to schedule an appointment. I tried calling the business multiple times and left messages. But did not hear back within 48 hours. Finally sent an email and got a response that online reservation system is the best way to go. 2. So I go online to look for an appointment. The only options available are on Tuesdays, Fridays and Saturdays. All Saturdays are booked and I was finally able to schedule a Tuesday morning appointment, on my day off. I later found out that the therapist works part-time, only on Tuesdays, Fridays and Saturdays. So if you have a full-time job, don't bother going here. 3. At the location, while filing up the intake form, I find out that the massage is NOT a deep-tissue style. The Yelp deal has NO mention of that. The therapist states that she does not do deep tissue for 'Groupon type' customers because it's hard on her body. If so, this should be stated up front, not after customers go through the trouble of finding an appointment and driving to the location. Businesses cannot wrongly advertise on Yelp to reap the benefits of increasing the customer base while offering lower than expected services. 4. During the massage, I asked for a little more focus on the back which was duly provided at the cost of little or no time on other areas. The therapist did not clarify what the customer meant and apologetically stated, at the end, that there was no time. Merchant was unwilling to honor a groupon voucher, she even said the voucher was no longer valid despite the terms spelled out both on her site and the voucher itself. Merchant seems to like make up new rules as she goes to satisfy her own mood. Merchant was completely unsympathetic to even the most reasonable of explanations for missing an appointment (could not locate business from the street, on foot).
