I found Scott Viola's crew via a friend's recommendation. They were terrific in every aspect of their work, their craftsmanship, and dedication to making sure I was satisfied. Because they've been around literally decades, they had solutions to several issues they discovered in my house that was built in 1958 when not everything measured up. They brought to life my cherry hardwood floors in the dining room and laid a brand new floor in my family room. They were patient in cleanup and removed rugs and furniture as necessary. They used tarps and plastic to prevent dust damage throughout the house. Total pros who had a work plan and followed through. I would not hesitate to use them again. read more

Scott Viola is the owner/operator per their shirts. He and his crew of 4 arrived at 8:20 on Jan 9th (despite treacherous ice conditions) to install new hardwood floors in 2 rooms. They put thick paper down to protect our existing flooring in the foyer and hallway, taped plastic to openings to other parts of our house to prevent the spread of sawdust, and moved furniture from both rooms. They removed the existing rugs, padding, tackless, and staples; these were boxed and bagged and put out for trash pickup. The sub-flooring was checked for new floor suitability. We verified that the flooring they picked up was the proper one (it was!). They put in screws to eliminate several squeaky areas, cleaned up all rip-out debris, and put down resin (?) paper before starting the install. Each strip of 2-1/4 tongue and groove hardwood was aligned and nailed down. Threshold and 1/4 round moulding was stained to closely match the flooring and properly installed. Scott and his crew removed all their tools, cleared all protective paper and plastic, checked for corrective repairs (touching up, setting and filling nail heads, etc.) to the new flooring, and moved back the furniture. They removed very old rugs from all of them and moved furniture (although they may not be doing that anymore) and beautifully refinished our floors. I've had several good experiences using Viola flooring throughout the years. My mother had her floors done by them in the early 2000s and they refinished the floors in my first house back in 2007. At my first house I wanted a light, natural stain color but due to extensive damage done to the floors by the past owners' pets (pee stains) Scott recommended I go with a dark stain and he was right. The floors came out great and I enjoyed them for 10 years before selling the house. More recently in the summer of 2018, Scott and his crew redid the floors in my second house and they came out great! My only recommendation is to not have your floors stained in the dead of summer as it took a little longer than usual for the stain smell to go away in my house and opening the windows didn't help because it was so hot and humid outside. Spring and fall would be best, in my opinion. read more

I decided to only go with the one floor of my home (the original estimate was for both floors) Over the phone I was told how much the price would be for the smaller job... We scheduled the work to be completed... When they arrived, they seemed to be almost whining about being there in the first place.. someones foot hurt, there were staples in the floor (which were there during the estimate) and now wanted to negotiate a new price... The old BATE AND SWITCH... I was told how the price he gave me over the phone wasnt enough to do the job, and how it cost him $1400 dollars to pay his men for 2 days... which is laughable.. how much to you pay your employees? $1400 for say 4 guys is $350 each.. I guess I'm in the wrong business... well anyway, after stating the price he quoted me over the phone wasnt enough money... he said he would pass.. This was fine with me, after seeing what this crew looked like, I really didnt want them in my house to begin with.. completely unprofessional looking, almost as if they were still drunk from the night before... So they left.. no work complete.... COMPLETELY UNPROFESSIONAL! read more

Since writing my original and poor review of the work performed by Scott Viola who runs this outfit, our floors have continued to deteriorate from the condition they were left in by the Viola crew. Within 12 months of their work in our home, we had to hire another group to completely repair the damage done to the floors: sanding them and restain to get them up to par again. Imagine not only the cost of re-doing this work but the upheaval to our home to have our hardwood flloors once again re-sanded to their base wood for the second time in a year. To say hiring Nick Viola's team. led by Scott, was a huge mistake would be an understatement and perhaps the biggest misjudgment of a professional organization we have made. In addition to the very poor workmanship, not just incompetent but bordering on negligent, we have been treated in a shocking and unprecedented manner by Scott Viola in response to our asking, then begging him, to stand behind his work. He wouldn't even come back to the house to see for himself. In response to a text, he called me names I wouldn't expect from my worst enemy. See screenshots of them on my more detailed Angie's List review. (It's interesting that the "positive" reviews for this group on Angie's List are from people who didn't use them but thought they were "nice" in the quote process even though they didn't hire them to perform any services.) We did contact the BBB about this company...you might want to check out their rating there before committing thousands of your hard-earned money to this outfit. We wish we had. EPILOGUE: people from Nick Viola's floors have taken to stalking my Yelp account and leveling personal insults at me as a response to my review. We have a +50 year old home in NE Philly. After taking up carpets and discovering the oak had a chance, we hired Nick to refinish the living room, dining room, hall and one bedroom. Just had my home's hardwood floors done by Scott and his team, and they did an amazing job. We called them again because we had them do floors in our last home in 2016 and they did such a great job. Everyone was professional and polite. They were able to mix colors to get the exact shade I desired. I love how the floors turned out! They kept our home very clean too! Nick viola's hardwood floor company came to my house to sand and repair if needed along with refinishing. This was something I had waited years to get done. They came to our house and promised that our floors would look like new and that it would be done professionally. Let me tell you it was anything but. This experience with this company was atrocious and even intimidating, to say the least. Nick's son Steve viola is a vile, unprofessional man who obviously has a horrible work ethic and is not loyal to his customers but instead has adopted an attitude of being grandiose. Steve came to our house with all sorts of promises about how great the work to our floors would be. Let me say how disappointed I am to feel as though this experience with him was so negative and the work completely horrible, that I wanted others to know. Steve and his workers were rude and a little scary I might add. Steve's dad and owner had an agreement with us about our floors being sanded down to the original bare bones part along with a few replaced and coated. They were to move the furniture and then put it back. They did not sand the floors down smoothly and it was rushed then they coated it but I was home and they said they did put a second coat that was agreed upon and proceeded to tell me it was done and that it was good enough. They did not. When they were done as per the arrangement between the owner and my significant other, he would be home shortly to inspect the work and pay them. All of the sudden there was screaming and yelling inside and out front if my house that they weren't putting anything back until he arrived with payment. Let me point out my five year old and I were here the entire time they were here and we were not going anywhere, we hadn't the entire time that they were here as it was.I felt completely intimidated by these men. Steve himself had arrangements with my significant other that when the job was completed and looked at when he got home from work they would be paid. Apparently they were done sooner than expected( hence the horrible work they did to my floors) so my significant other was finishing up at work and coming home to pay them. After everything including the cursing and insinuating that they will do damage because they believed he was not on his way or that he was not going to compensate them for the second rate job they did. I was here with my five year old alone with these people during all this and was a bit intimidated and a little nervous. Yesterday we called them because the coating is coming off and looks even worse.since they did the work I tried to have Steve look at my floors and I was met with screaming and more derogatory statements about how I must have put acid on my floor. This experience with nick viola hardwood floors has left me upset and disappointed at the behavior of his son Steve and their employees. I am pretty sure that if nick himself knew about the behavior and horrible work that was done in our house he would be livid. read more

I thought I was good at this, but homeowner abilities, couldn't hold a candle to their professional skills. They work fast, efficiently, cleanly, with an interest in and commitment to the outcome that rivaled mine. Their work revealed the beauty of the mahogany I'd been hiding. I called around to get estimates before I decided to use Nick Viola Hardwood Floors. A friend referred them saying they used them about 10 years ago but didnt know if they were still in business. They were the lowest price of the other 4 companies I called. I spoke with Scott (the 3rd generation owner I learned) who was very professional on the phone and he met me at my property the following day. He actually hand wrote me an estimate. I called to schedule the work to be done and he was personally on the job for all 3 days. They were are very courtous and professional. The area of the house they were working on was completely sealed off from the remainder as they were treating my house (and pets) with respect. I really cant say enough of how professional these gentleman behaved. My floors didnt even look this good when I bought the house and that was part of what sold me on buying it! Only after I had a get together at the house did I realize that a few of my friends had already used them before for their homes from other personal referrals. Everyone had only good things to say as they looked at how great my new floors looked. I would refer them to anyone looking to get their floors refinished.They even made a few patch repairs that we didnt realize were so bad until after the rugs were pulled up. read more

Nick Viola Hardwood Floors refinished the hardwood floors in my house. They did an outstanding job, including removing a mold stain in one room (you can't tell it was there) and patching a damaged board near a door. These are 60 year old floors that looked like it before, but now look better than new. The crew arrived on time, were courteous, professional, and very friendly, and were finished ahead of schedule. The price was very reasonable, but I am really impressed with the results and the pride these guys had for doing their job the right way. I had a transition into a different floor I was worried about, and they made sure it looked perfect. If I could give this 0 stars I would. We had Nick and his crew of thugs come out, did our floor in one day. They were so unprofessional. Cursed, fought, sounded like a dysfunctional family. Threw out the F bomb constantly. Returned our furniture the following day; all furniture left marks on finish same day. Nick came out to touch up - complained that everything left marks. Within three months we had the floors redone. We never called Nick back to complain. Honestly, was afraid he'd harm us/home in some way. Figured it was a lesson learned. Never hire a thug!!! read more
