    BLT

In terms of a sandwich I'd get again, I might consider Nick's for a filet mignon. The famous filet mignon sandwiches are pretty good with the meat quality and size, but overall, not too special for the price. 10 bucks acn get you a pretty tasty hoagie/sandwich/roll in these parts. The BLT was small, not really flavorful, and led me on a journey to satisfy my BLT craving- it turns out, you can easily make one better at home. Would love to try the BBQ here though. Maybe another type of sandwich as well.

Not gonna lie this was a very good sandwich, but with all due respect I was a little bit too hype to try it. Granted the roll was amazing and spinach and cheese added a nice flavor, but it left something to be desired. I think the ratio of bread to meat may not have quite hit the spot for me, as well as the actual flavor of the meat. Somewhat of a charcoal cooked taste but it could have been a little bit more seasoned imo. That being said it was a tasty lunch and filled me up. Definitely would love to try something else from here another time..

Great example of very good pieces not working great together. We got Nick's special filet mignon sandwich. Very good filet mignon. I guess for the price of $10.25 it was an appropriate amount. Very good sarcone roll but the roll kind of dominated the sandwich. Cheese, my kingdom for more cheese. Very good news for Mike Rant Sr., Kristen from The Inquirer has taken your title as world's guest eater. She commented that this was a very good sandwich but not a cheesesteak. Good overall experience.

Filet Mignon Sandwich with extra Provolone Cheese, Lettuce, Tomato and an order of Onion Rings on a round seeded Sarcone Roll.

The Culinary Adventures of Tom Coghlan, FB I have been ordering From Nick's Charcoal Pit since he opened up at 13th and Jackson Sts. in the 90's. I became friendly with Nick and was a great fan of his business! I ordered from him regularly. After some success, Nick moved to 1242 Snyder Ave. After some time, Nick sold his successful business and trained the new owners well. The new owners have been continuing his legacy to the tee, down to Nicks savory house made BBQ Sauce! I basically order two items regularly from Nicks. The first Item I order is The Filet Mignon Sandwich with extra Provolone Cheese, Lettuce, Tomato and an order of Onion Rings on a round seeded Sarcone Roll. I put as many Onion Rings as I can comfortably fit onto the sandwich. The filets are trimmed well and cooked to perfection every time! The seeded Sarcone Round Roll is the coup de gras! SOOooo good! The second item I order are The Ribs! I believe Nick's cooks their ribs slowly in a marinate and grills them to order, rather that dry rubbing and smoking them for many hours. I like both methods and I Can't say I like one more than the other... I like to mix it up... The ribs are tender and juicy, and the meat falls off of the bone. The BBQ Sauce compliments then well!

Small hole-in-the-wall sandwich shop in South Philly

This hole-in-the-wall near Broad and Snyder in South Philly is famous for its filet mignon sandwich. This is another one of Philly's incredibly diverse sandwich offerings. I tried one on a Kaiser roll and found it tasty. I did not find it quite as delicious or as large as the filet mignon sandwich I raved about at a similarly named (but unrelated) place in Paoli, but still it's a sandwich hard not to like. You can eat-in or take-out but if you want to add to your sandwich, def order it to-go as there are minimal condiments on offer at this shop.

I stumbled upon this place during one of my lunchtime walks in South Philadelphia. The sign said they specialize in Filet Mignon sandwiches- I was sold. I tried the quintessential Nicks sandwich- "Nicks Special" Filet Mignon Char-broiled with Sauteed Spinach and Provolone Cheese. Yum!! The Filet was prepared well-done and was piled on the sandwich. The cheese was melted and stringy and the spinach had excellent flavor. The combo made for a very delicious sandwich. The sandwich comes alone, but you can also make it into a platter with fries and coleslaw. There is only 7 seats in the small dining area. I would suggest you get your order to-go. The people who work here were super friendly and welcoming. My food was ordered and I was rung up and out the door in 5 minutes. Very quick, great service! I will definitely be back again.

We've trusted Mike to cater not just one but two of our office events, each with over 100 guests, and every time the food has been a crowd-pleaser. Mike's generous portions really stand out, and the menu always surprises and delights. The collard greens with black-eyed peas were a hit--something I never expected to enjoy so much! And don't even get me started on the rest: the mac & cheese, potato salad, ribs, and chicken had everyone raving and coming back for seconds (and thirds). It's such a relief not having to fire up the grill ourselves when we know Mike's BBQ will deliver mouthwatering food that keeps everyone happy. If you're considering catering for your next gathering, I can't recommend Mike's BBQ enough--it's a guaranteed way to make your guests happy and your event memorable!

We ordered their: (1) brisket (rating 2.0/5) -- This was quite dry. I was also surprised to see only 3 small slices after ordering a half pound. After seeing Mike's show up constantly whenever people online ask about Philly's best BBQ, I was greatly disappointed. (2) brisket cheese steak (rating 4.0/5) -- This was better than the brisket by itself. The cheese and other condiments likely helped with the dryness, so this was decent, although a bit small. This was maybe a little too salty, but I liked the bread. (3) mac and cheese (rating 3.5/5) -- Not the best mac and cheese I've ever had, but not bad either. Decently cheesy with good flavor. I'd say it's slightly above average. (4) cole slaw (rating 1.5/5) -- Strongly tasted of vinegar and even seemed a bit spicy. It was weird. (5) cornbread (rating 4.0/5) -- To be honest, I like most cornbread, even the cheap kind from a pre-made mix and fast food cornbread. So while I enjoyed the cornbread here too, it wasn't my favorite. I prefer the outer layer to be crispier and it could have been less crumbly on the inside. Service Notes: This is a fast casual place and service was fine. Food came out quite fast. TLDR: No way this is considered the best BBQ in Philly. They were mediocre at best and also fairly expensive for the amount you get, so my hunt continues for a great local BBQ place.

The pulled pork sandwich was okay. Not the best I've ever had but decent. The Pigs in a Clover was a ton of food. Definitely could feed 4. The sides were better in my opinion than the meat itself. We loved the slaw, Mac, and potato salad. The half sour pickle was a little weird although I guess it did live up to its name. Tastes like a cucumber that isn't quite a pickle yet. The pulled pork was standard. The ribs were very smokey and charred but a little tough. Flavor of the meat was good just not standout. Overall I would come back here especially because the vibes are very cozy, inviting, family friendly, and warm.

I can't go often, since it's not that close to me, but when I go, I typically order the rib platter. I typically get the same sides (beans and mac n cheese) along with cornbread. It is certainly more deserving than my initial 3 star review on my successive visits, but I never updated my review. Not everyone will love the sauce, which tastes more tomato-based, but that's okay. As I've gotten older, I appreciate it more. It's almost like... they put... ketchup... in the sauce... and if that's what it is, I'm fine with it. It tastes good. The ribs on that initial visit were tough; that's not a lie. On three visits afterwards, it was not as tough as the first time. On my most recent visit today, the ribs were really, really tender. Like... this is how tender ribs should be. The only difference between my experiences before versus now is I placed a takeout order this time whereas I always ate at the restaurant before. If takeout will always yield the freshest, most tender ribs, I'm good with ordering takeout from now on. The ribs were tender to the point of being delicate. They were SO GOOD. Even the rib that looked like it could've been tough was tender. That's how you know ribs are good. I would give 5 stars for just the ribs alone, but aha... there were more items... baked beans... SO GOOD... they have sausage bits in them. Cornbread... baked fresh and cut in front of my eyes... WARM, SOFT, FLUFFY.... SOoo GOOOOD... the mac n cheese... well, ehhh... can't win them all... it was just mac n cheese. I have to remember to order something other than mac n cheese next time, but I always forget because I don't go here often enough. Still, this is a 5 star meal all the way and I look forward to more meals like this. I thought I had to drive over to Camden all this time to get tender ribs. Let's say that all again... the ribs are damn good... tender and juicy. Yums. Go get some. Parking lot on the premises. Hope you get the same experience I just did.

We're never great at eating our money's worth, so the pay-as-you-go setup felt like a better fit. We got the favorite set for two, which ended up being plenty. The biggest highlight right away: they grill everything for you. KBBQ is just better when you can sit back and eat instead of managing the grill yourself. They also use a back grill to keep things moving, so there's barely any pause between rounds of meat. It felt really efficient. Also, the place is surprisingly clean and doesn't have that heavy "you're going to smell like smoke for the next 5 hours" vibe, which I really appreciated. Somehow they keep it all under control even with constant grilling. Service-wise, the staff were attentive and clearly working hard, especially since it seemed a bit understaffed. That said, my friend did feel a little uncomfortable at times. There were a few moments where it felt like we were being watched closely, almost like they were worried about a dine-and-dash situation, and we were asked multiple times if we had paid. I personally read it more as things being slightly disorganized with a small team juggling cooking, serving, and payments, but I can see how it might come across differently depending on how you interpret it. Food-wise, the meat was very good, but the banchan really stood out to me. The cabbage salad with a gingery soy dressing was super refreshing and cut through the richness of the meat perfectly. Free refills on banchan are always a win too. I also liked that the grill came with corn cheese, egg, and sprouts, nice extras you don't always get. The corn cheese wasn't as sweet as I expected, and the egg was a bit on the salty side, but still enjoyable. The tilted grill setup was another plus since it lets the grease drain away, so the meal didn't feel overly heavy like some AYCE spots. Overall, it was a really fun experience.
