It would be difficult to survive in Astoria with mediocre anything. And this is why Nick's will be around for a long time. The deli selection leaves you questioning why you'd make any meal when you can go with their sides. I opted for a prosciutto and fresh mozzarella sandwich that was delicious. This is a small place, with stellar options for snacks or meals. The iced coffee was ok, but the food was a solid ten.

Hot Pastrami on rye with mustard, swiss and lettuce

first time trying nicks , i was craving a nice honey turkey on a roll but after yelping this place i noticed everyone talking about hot pastrami on rye. IT WAS DELICIOUS! super moist. The only reason i didn't give 5 stars were because well i called and ordered in advance , the guy on the phone seemed super polite. when i got there it was a different vibe. like i said it was my first time , when i walked in the guy at the deli section said can i help you , i stated that i called and ordered and the guy at the register damn near yelled at me for speaking to the deli guy and says don't speak to him if ii already ordered cause i'll confuse him ‍. there could've been a muchhh nicer way to say that -my thoughts. oh yea my swiss cheese was NOT MELTED ON MY "hot" pastrami btw - a hot pastrami cost $12.00, personally that's a little too much for me

Succulent hot pastrami. Next time, no mayo!

Swung by Nick's en route to LGA to get some pastrami after failing to make it to any of the famous delis. We were bummed that there wasn't any seating. But I was completely thrilled by my thick-cut pastrami sandwich. I got it with mayo which was turned out to be unnecessary since the pastrami was so moist. I don't feel like I missed out on Katz's and Nick's is now our go-to pre-flight deli.

My boyfriend and I were going on an 8 hour car ride and leaving super early in the morning. I wanted to look for a deli that's open so we wouldn't have to stop so much and eat fast food on the way up. I looked on yelp and found that this place opens at 5am! That was perfect for our time. I came in around 5:45 and there was actually other customers besides me. I decided to order breakfast and lunch. I like how I could get a lunch order even though it was so early in the morning. I decided to get a bagel and a chicken BLT but instead of mayo opted for ranch dressing which wasn't a problem at all. I had to wait a little bit but I ordered a decent amount of food so I didn't mind. The food was pretty good and standard deli. I would deff come back when I'm craving a good sandwich!

They ran out of focaccia so I got this loaf of bread instead. Nick's is heroic

Where have you been all my life? I've passed this place a million times on my way home from LGA and figured it was some hole in the wall. Today, I stand corrected. The store isn't huge, but has an incredibly robust menu. It has all the healthy options of Soho on 31st Street, with none of the lines and chaos. I got a chicken pesto sandwich, which came with roasted peppers and homemade pesto and was served on fresh olive focaccia bread. I had one bite in the car, and it was so good that I finished the whole thing before I drove away. Sandwich was $7, and it was huge. They have a full hot food counter, smoothies, the expected breakfast options and a whole lot more. This is out of the way enough that it probably only gets traffic from neighbors, but it's one of the better delis I've been to in Astoria. They are only open until 4, but I see a lot of delivery lunches in my future.

I saw sandwiches with deli meats (ham, turkey, roast beef). Too bad, for lent, on fridays, I gave up meat, so I couldn't tell you what I thought of these omelettes or heroes. Never to fear, I will come by another time to try it. I didn't see the prices, but I did try their orange juice. It was really satisfying. One plus is that the owner was engaging and approachable. I also saw snacks that you would be able to purchase at a local grocery or bodega. I saw a choice amount of beer along with cold beverages (non-alchoholic, kid-friendly). I even spotted danishes, muffins, bagels, etc. I even saw laundry and hand detergent and some common household products. The prices seem fair and moderate.

This is not just your typical neighborhood bodega, this is a deli with all you need in a pinch…read more What I'm writing about today however is their Chicken BLT hero. It is a great sandwich and loaded with goodness. Crispy bacon, juicy tomatoes and a generous sized chicken breast, all on a large hero. This is actually 2 meals, being that eating it in one sitting will make you want to take a nap. If you're in the area I would give this a try, pretty sure you will have it again as I did. There are a lot of options in Jackson heights, and I say this should definitely be on your list. In addition in the mornings and during the day, they can whip up all types of other sandwiches and wraps. The only caveat is that they close the grill at 5pm at the moment. Thanks to the guys here for making this and I will be back for more.
