Sadly, this place's good run is over. They got rid of the core two cooks that had been there forever. They now have their own cart at the opening of the Riker's Island Bridge (Los Primos). I stopped going when they charged me $10 for an OJ and my wife $20 for a cold sandwich, chips and a drink. It just...doesn't merit that. read more

I live a block up from Nicks and I've been going there for the past 5 years. It has completely gone down hill in the past three months. They are way over priced!! I once asked one of the works why they don't have breakfast specials in the mornings and he told me that owner said "Nicks isn't for everyone, if you cant afford the prices then you shouldn't come". I stopped buying food there the next day. The owner even took down the pricing so you can't see his outrageous prices!!!! Swung by Nick's en route to LGA to get some pastrami after failing to make it to any of the famous delis. We were bummed that there wasn't any seating. But I was completely thrilled by my thick-cut pastrami sandwich. I got it with mayo which was turned out to be unnecessary since the pastrami was so moist. I wanted to look for a deli that's open so we wouldn't have to stop so much and eat fast food on the way up. I looked on yelp and found that this place opens at 5am! That was perfect for our time. I came in around 5:45 and there was actually other customers besides me. I decided to order breakfast and lunch. I like how I could get a lunch order even though it was so early in the morning. I decided to get a bagel and a chicken BLT but instead of mayo opted for ranch dressing which wasn't a problem at all. Didn't get to eat here, but they were super helpful and friendly when I needed (several) bags to help me carry some items down the street. 'Why is this helpful to me if I need a BEC', you ask? It's not, but know that they're friendly enough to help a duder out in need. They easily could've said no or charged me a bunch, etc. So, trust them to build you a nice sammy. I've been coming here for years and have grown to know the cooks there since they've also built a relationship with my father who goes there quite frequently. Their food is great and have lots of options for breakfast lunch and even smoothies/juices. I'm pretty disappointed in Nicks Deli though and I hate to say it, but it's for the smallest but most important reason. The door clearly says one MUST wear a mask to enter and if there are 5 people, you must wait outside until the others leave. I've noticed time and time again, that the owner allows his friends or specifically the correction officers to come in and out with large groups of their coworkers with no masks. Today it happened again but this time the owner himself had his mask around his neck the entire time while bagging food products up, taking credit cards, and touching all kinds of items. I found it frustrating that the owner is having favoritism and also NO consideration for the cooks and employees health there who work very hard. I asked the owner if the signs no longer apply and he seemed a bit frazzled by the question and responded that it's kinda hard to make people wear their masks, as he struggled to keep his from falling. I'm just disappointed because regardless of individuals beliefs about covid, it's best to just play it safe as a store owner and at the very least require ALL and themselves to wear a mask. For their own safety, customers, and employees safety, regardless if correction officers agree or not. I hope to see this change because it honestly is a really great community deli and I would hate to not go anymore due to something that could easily be implemented. read more

Where have you been all my life? I've passed this place a million times on my way home from LGA and figured it was some hole in the wall. Today, I stand corrected. The store isn't huge, but has an incredibly robust menu. It has all the healthy options of Soho on 31st Street, with none of the lines and chaos. I got a chicken pesto sandwich, which came with roasted peppers and homemade pesto and was served on fresh olive focaccia bread. I had one bite in the car, and it was so good that I finished the whole thing before I drove away. Sandwich was $7, and it was huge. They have a full hot food counter, smoothies, the expected breakfast options and a whole lot more. This is out of the way enough that it probably only gets traffic from neighbors, but it's one of the better delis I've been to in Astoria. They are only open until 4, but I see a lot of delivery lunches in my future. read more

They were out of pastrami but no worries I ordered 2 Philly cheesesteaks and a turkey panini. Everything was really good!! I only bring that up to lament the fact that the majority of those people will never have a chance to eat the Pesto Chicken sandwich these guys serve. I ordered my food 1 hour and 50 minutes ago. The delivery time listed on delivery.com was 30-to-45 minutes. It just arrived. When I called them after 1 hour I was told that it would "be there in 10 minutes" and the delay was due to delivery.com not giving them the order right away. While it is indeed true that this is an issue with delivery.com, I'm also notified via a text message when they've actually received it (as opposed to when you just order it). My order was placed at 11:13am. They received it at 11:17am. Forgive me for not blaming a 4 minute delay for their 70-85 minute delay. But more to the point... as mentioned, when I called, they said it would be 10 minutes. It was 50 minutes since that call. No delivery.com to blame there. So that wasn't true and they obviously forgot to keep an eye out for online orders. Then the food came. A cheesesteak with almost no cheese, soggy french fries, and a cold egg sandwich. Best deli in Queens?? Very possibly. I love the huge lunch specials every day, and the pastrami sandwich is right up there with the best in the city. They have the slab sitting in juices the whole day making it moist and intense. I had been waiting for the right moment to have one - this morning was it, and it was good. It's small, there are no tables, and they close early because they mostly are here for the workers in the area from Laguardia, electrical dudes, or multiple levels of the NYPD. I do think that the pastrami could be better if they got a supplier that wasn't Boars Head, like Katz's or 2nd Ave does - but their method is spot on so I'm only 5% complaining - and 95% is 5 stars! So I'm only able to review their breakfast at this point. From the first time I decided to try Nick's I realized it was a popular spot. Cars were doubled parked all over the place. I had to park a block away. So I've tried their bacon, egg & cheese (BEC) two different ways: club roll and regular roll. First the BEC part of the sandwich is killer. Not too much egg, cheese gets to actually melt on and yes crispy bacon. The crispy bacon is so key. Now the bread part of the sandwich has been equally as good. Nice soft inner roll with a just the right crispiness on the outside. A solid 4 star BEC. Also, the coffee was good, just wish everyone did the Dunkin Donut type of coffee lid. They had two guys working the grill and one guy working the register/coffee. Things move at a good pace there. read more

I love using yelp to find food options in the area I'm at! Nicks deli was Indeed delicious! I arrived after they stopped serving breakfast so my plan to get an omelette changed to ordering a pastrami sandwich on rye knowing I wasn't going to make it to Katz deli this trip. I was a little disappointed when I opened the package to see there was no cheese or mustard or pickles included on/with my sub but when I took my first bite I was thoroughly impressed! The pastrami was prepared so perfectly that none of those things are really needed. It may be better than Katz pastrami! If you do want those things I'm guessing you can simply request it. The tuna wrap was fresh and tasty also no too mayo-ie. The fresh juices are made to order! Keep in mind if you order a Greek salad it is not served with tomatoes and comes with white onions and black olives. Not what I was expecting, but again everything can be made to order so just ask for what you want and if you want breakfast make sure it's "breakfast time". This would easily be my favorite deli if it actually operated during normal hours. Every time I have a craving for good deli food and am in the neighborhood, this place is closed. If they stayed open past 7 even for just one night a week, I'd be sure to stop in and buy certain things for weeknight dinners. When I was off last summer, I was actually able to swing by this place. The food and service are both fantastic. The breakfast sandwiches are solid, and the cold salads (especially their no-mayo tuna) and hot foods are delicious. Even something as simple as grilled chicken breasts have so much flavor here. The chicken parm. is so greasy, over cooked and I guess they forgot the marinara sauce today. The welfare green beans are disgusting. The Pastrami sandwich, it's AMAZING!! The pastrami is juicy and flavorful. I used to take time after work to stop at Katz Deli or Sarge's Dell in Manhattan for their pastrami sandwich till I tried Nick's on a whim. I was blown away by how great it was! My only 2 gripes are they need better pickles and most of all, they need better work hours. I've lived in East Elmhurst for awhile and the only reason I tried their sandwich was because I took the day off to work from home and they were open. I get off work at 5 and they close at 5, they are losing a lot of the after work crowd. But none the less, that's probably a good thing or I would be obese by now. read more

We live in the area and have picked up sandwiches from Nick's on several occasions. I always get the pastrami. It's some of the best I've ever had. The wife has sampled more of their menu and has also liked everything, especially the philly cheesesteaks. Ordered delivery once and food arrived fast and hot. I highly recommend this place. The only reason I'm omitting a star is due to Nick's not staying open for dinner. I don't work in the area, so I'm usually not able to get lunch here, but if I could pick up sandwiches for dinner on the way home from work, I'd be a weekly customer for sure. read more

I lived really close to Nick's deli for a couple of years. Great place to grab a quick breakfast or lunch. Breakfast foods were nothing to write home about, but still good. The sandwiches at lunch are huge and delicious. They use good quality meats. My only complaint is that the sub bread is isn't exactly soft. In fact, it was downright hard to chew sometimes. They also offer salads (which are nothing special) and hot foods, which I never tried. Prices are fair and staff are nice. read more
