Perfect pancakes, hamburger got rave reviews even the grilled cheese was amazing but we were floored by the delicious pizza. The dining options in Anderson are actually quite limited for a city this size. But Nick's is a pretty good option for breakfast or lunch. Nothing fancy, but A LOT of food for not very much money. I ordered the Beef Manhattan (a rare find) and there was E Pugh food for 2 people. My one complaint was the gravy was very salty. Despite that, I would not hesitate to return here. read more

The menu was attractive. Lincoln Square style. Buuuuuuut. I had eggshells in my omelette. And the top musta come off the salt shaker. My wife had both a black AND blonde hair in her omlette. I remember Nick's growing up we used to have chicken dinners at the one on Scatterfield Road (dry cleaners now next to Gene's) ... the Chicken back then was exactly like another lost local restaurant The Red Brick Inn.. Nick's fried chicken was very good, just not like the old Nick's .. onion rings were very good.. service was great, place has been remodeled and was very clean on inside. If you have read any of my reviews, you will notice that I am a breakfast aficionado. I am always on the look out for new and tried & true places to satisfy my urge for breakfast, and Nick's was the radar this time. Nick's Restaurant in Anderson been a staple of the Northside community since the 1970's at least. Maybe longer. I have to admit that this was my first visit to Nick's ever. I know. I know. I have been like this for many a restaurant icon where I live. This review is about the breakfast I had at Nick's. It is only a reflection on that, nothing more. My choice for breakfast this particular morning was the Hungryman Skillet. The Hungryman Skillet consists of a layer of "homestyle" potatoes, otherwise known as hash browns, onions, green peppers, ham, bacon, sausage, and country gravy. Sprinkled with some shredded cheese over that and then topped with two eggs, any style. Finally it comes with your choice of two buttermilk pancakes, one slice of French Toast, a biscuit, or toast. I also had a cup of coffee and a glass of water. Our server was friendly, helpful, and checked in on us throughout our meal. Our food came out of the kitchen quickly and was hot. It all looked delicious. When it comes to breakfast, I am very critical. My mantra is good food isn't hard, and when food I order falls short, it is disappointing. The Hungryman Skillet is meh. There is a distinct lack of flavor. The potatoes had little or no seasoning, were kind of wet, and not crispy at all. The onions and green peppers were diced very small and were hidden behind the blandness of the country gravy. The country gravy still had a flour taste to it and also had no seasoning. The ham, bacon, and sausgae were also diced/crumbled very small and contributed nothing to the overall dish. Overall, the Hungryman Skillet is a disappointment. Coffee comes a close second to breakfast in my book and may even be ahead at times. I enjpy a good cup of coffee. The dark, rich taste of the coffee beans wakens my senses, and picks my soul up si that I am ready for the day. That is not what the coffee at Nick's is or does I am sad to say, however. The coffee at Nick's tastes like centuries old, "generic" brandname, burnt, brown liquid. I was in the military for sometime so it takes a lot for me to not consume even the poorest of coffee but at Nick's, I pushed my mug aside after the first sip. Even though my breakfast experience at Nick's was not up to par, the other menu items may be great and worth a try. I will return for lunch and diner at some point and let you know what I think about those experiences. read more

Our breakfast was delicious! They make everything from scratch. Their biscuits are light and fluffy with a gravy that is creamy and savory. Veggie burritos are not normally an adventurous meal but here they are. You have to try the homemade salsa with it. Amazing! Home fries are real potatoes too. Coffee better than Starbucks. I have had the food from Nicks in the past and it was always fine. I had never dined in the restaurant before, only take out, but tonight I dined in for someone birthday. My food was fine, though everyone who got onion rings said they were all cold. The waitress did offer to have new ones made but everyone declined because we had already waited an hour for our food despite there only being like 2 other people dining there. The place was just gross honestly. Gnats literally everywhere. Someone had mopped near the bathroom and it was super wet and I almost fell. The waitress wasn't great and took forever to bring our checks. Said we could pay her or pay up front but she never came back to our table so we all had to pay up front. I took a group of my assisted living residents for lunch. We were there for over two hours, has the most horrible service I think I've ever had. Our waitress ignored one of residents who was trying to order, so she could talk to another coworker about a fight or something she was having with a boyfriend. Very rude, and treated us like we were just a big inconvenience. If I still worked customer service and treated anyone the way we were I would of been fired so quick. The food was decent, but if you want a good meal AND good service I would avoid it. read more

I know I'm giving it 3 stars but it's still on of the best places for breakfast. Key word is breakfast, the rest is good to decent. The restrooms are not very good and the service is good but not amazing. They don't get a lot of business and yet it still takes a little while. My 8yr old got the skillet meal that has the eggs potatoes ham sausage and bacon w 2 pancakes. FIRST time he has devoured all his food in so long he LOVED it! My 15 yr old got the turkey manhattan. Wow. I want to support local businesses here in Anderson. I love Anderson . I want to see it thrive. Without commerce and attractions that are high quality, we are not going to see revival. I have driven by Nicks hundred s of times and last week I decided to call in an order for a tenderloin and onion rings. This is standard fare for central Indiana and I thought this is just a little dive restaurant and I bet the food is fabulous. Unfortunately the exterior of the building matches the quality of food that I was served that day. Perhaps it was a one off. The tenderloin tasted old, dry.. a beige color and rough texture.,the tomato was wilted and generally it looked as if it was put together carelessly. The onion rings probably a total of 8 to 10 rings all 10 saturated with oil. Perhaps there is an audience that prefers onion rings limp but I like mine crispy and crunchy. These were more like a spongy texture. I don't want to put the restaurant down. I just want to give my honest opinion of what the fair was like. To top it off when I went in to get my order , I was not greeted. I was simply asked ,"are you here to pick up?" My bag was handed to me without a word. The food is amazing and this place has the best customer service of any restaurant I've ever been to! I could go on a big long tangent about all my favorite foods here, but honest to God everything is delicious! Almost everything is homemade and made fresh upon order! They have great specials and award winning fried chicken! Mexican street tacos are the best in town! Real authentic Mexican food! They are most known for breaded tenderloin, onion rings, chicken, and pizzas, but they have a huge selection! Breakfast here is phenomenal! This is hands down my favorite restaurant! We stopped here after a three hour eye doctor visit in Anderson and it did not disappoint. We were greeted when we walked in the door and the first thing I noticed was how clean everything was. Under the counters, shelves, booths, spotless! ER both ordered the breaded tenderloin and mine was big enough to take half of it home.The onion rings were the best I've ever had. Had lunch at Nick's today for the first time. I had a skillet, which was really good, although I asked for no green peppers, and got them anyway. My daughter got potato skins and said they were awful. They were very full and she said it tasted like the whole thing was deep fried. The waitresses were very nice and attentive and seemed to know many of the patrons. Service was great. The special today was pot roast and it looked incredible. I just got back from a trip to my hometown, Anderson, Indiana, and thought I would review a few of my old favorites. Many have gone downhill, but there were a couple of nice surprises. Nick's was one very nice surprise. The old location was run down, stinky, and greasy--both the food and the windows. I can't even imagine what the kitchen looked like in those days. Still, I loved their onion rings, even though they often made me queasy. After a run of business spanning more than my whole life, Nick's went out of business a year or so ago, only to reopen under different owners. I visited expecting the worst--at the very least I thought the food would be different. I was wrong. I had the tenderloin and the onion rings. The onion rings tasted just like the old days, only less greasy. The tenderloin was the real thing--not a fritter in disguise. I would have liked more breading, but the flavor was great. My stepson had the chicken and dumplings off of the special menu. I took a bite and it was excellent. The whole place is much cleaner, you can even see out the windows. It is also full service now. If I recall correctly, it was counter service in its earlier incarnation. What a great exception to the rule. So many old places in Anderson have gone out of business. We went there and the food was amazing. I had the lasagna. It was different but my goodness it was good. My husband got the fried chicken. It's been years since I had such a delicious taste of home made fried chicken. My granddaughter got the strawberry french toast stuffed with cream cheese, another winner. My son got a burger that was seasoned perfectly. His wife got bacon and eggs, again very good. Home fries were perfect. All in all this was some of the best home made tasting food I've had in this area. Mind you the restaurant was very dated and the back setting needs allot of attention. Would recommend you sit in the front. The pretty, young waitress was quick and attentive. I can't say enough good words about the cook and his style of cooking. You could literally see her butt crack hanging out of her jeans. My food and daughters food came out before my fiancé's. Daughter's food was ok but mine was ice cold. I had the beef manhattan. Took about 5 minutes but finally got someones attention to get mine replaced. Fiancé's food came out a few minutes after that. Took another 5 to get my hot food. So we didn't even get to eat as a family. Fiancé asked for ketchup and they bring it out in a plastic container with a lid. The server dropped it and ketchup got all over his pants and no apology. My beef Manhattan was so nasty I couldn't even eat it. The beef was very fatty. My grandma and I drive by this place all the time and never stop, but tonight we decided to try it out and we were very pleasantly surprised. Nick's is one of our go-to places to eat. Let me tell you why. First, they have a really varied menu. Breakfast all day, plus everything from hamburgers to gyros to ribs and broasted chicken and a really good lasagna....everyone can find something that sounds good! Since it's cooked fresh, there's no trouble with special orders. And, since it's cooked fresh, with real ingredients, there aren't strange marinades and secret ingredients to mess with my allergies. They offer two large pizzas for $20, which is useful when feeding the bottomless pits that are teenage boys, and the quality is nearly as good as Art's, and miles above any of the national chains. The staff are friendly and welcoming, and are good at their jobs. They remember our drink orders, and on Sunday mornings always remember what we normally get, even! The restaurant is clean and even when they're busy, they look like they're having fun and have things together. I believe in supporting local businesses, and in this case I can put my ethics where my mouth is and have a good meal to boot! read more
