The service is absolutely top notch (Hey, Kendall!) and I adore the decor. Having said that, I haven't found that signature delicious dish yet after two visits. This might be my fault for trying to eat 'healthy' at a diner that makes homemade biscuits. (Eggwhite mushroom omelet was 'meh', turkey sausage the same. Easy on the superlatives, buddy..... I spent my formative high school years, eating in the short order, greasy spoons of the rust belt in Southeatern Pennsylvania. Staples like eggs and bacon, manhattans and meatloaf were the mainstay. So when I find a diner in a small town it is always with the expectation of getting a mix of good and bad on the plate. But, EVERYTHING at Toast was.... Perfect. I didn't have to add butter to the delicious, creamy grits. The biscuit was huge and soft and tasty on its own, but the gravy was too good not to dip. The over easy egg yolks were perfectly runny, but the whites were firm. The bacon was crispy with just enough chew left - and the home fries were the best I've ever had. Super crispy and hot with the perfect fluffy center; they were taken out of the fryer at the exact right moment so there was zero grease, and they were well seasoned and the portion was enormous. The staff were friendly, polite and responsive - Alicia was great! One of the best bacon and egg breakfasts I've ever had. Don't miss this place if you are in town. read more

We took my 83 year old mom here and it was okay. Nothing to write home about. Service was slow, orders not correct. Nothing homemade about the biscuits. The bacon was so tough and chewy you couldn't eat it. I liked the sausage patties. I ordered cheese grits and the first time she brought them it had a scoop of pimento cheese on top. What a GEM! This place has figured out a way to keep the Nostalgia of the original Toast Cafe with major upgrades!!! Open 7-3, 7 days a week, this is truly a gem in downtown Anderson. This place is amazing. They took a smoky old downtown café and turned it into the brightest cleanest little restaurant for breakfast and lunch so cute. We had biscuits and gravy and ham and eggs. They also have mimosas and bloody Mary's. The service was great and the food was wonderful. read more

5 star for upgrade and ambiance, 2.5 star for food, & 3.5 star for price. I can accept the price if the food was better, I used to love The Toast Cafe. (I still do, but the food was a small let down) -The biscuits and gravy weren't to my liking. And they were cold, -Wife ordered over easy eggs and got over hard-You know where the outer edge is crispy and the center tastes rubbery, -The wheat toast is a definite no go, unless they change supplier or something was wrong with it, almost tasted stale & then toasted, (no butter) asked for a side of butter for my toast and a side of butter for wife's pancakes. They charged us $0.75 the receipt said (extra butter & jam) never had any to begin with. But i did have jam. Hash browns were good & crispy Bacon was good Sausage is good for restaurant sausage, 1st cup of coffee was decent my second had coffee grounds. The service was fine 4 star. Please note: this is my personal opinion, I'm a foodie, love food and always will, but I have gotten picky on my food especially since I paying! I want my money to be well spent. please check them out for yourself. The Toast is/was a small dinner located in the downtown area of Anderson. I say was because it is currently closed for renovations. A couple of guys bough the diner about a year ago and renovations started not long after. It is taking some time but the wait will be worth it. They are returning The Toast in to a classic dinner, or so that is plan I read. When they are finished, it be great I am sure. The Toast is a place I go regularly for a classic diner style meal. Nothing fancy, nothing Michelin-esq. Just you basic diner. The prices are very resonable and the food decent. It is popular with the locals, of which I am one, and can fill up quickly of a morning. I have tried most everything on the menu and haven't had anything would order again. My go to is two eggs, over medium with bacon, hash browns, and a coffee. If you know the movie Dirty Harry and the scene where Callahan goes in to the diner in San Fransisco to get his usual cup of coffee, then you should have some idea of the coffee at The Toast. I nice new building and really friendly staff is the only thing that got me to bump up to a second star. Food was a little less than so-so. It is not anything close to as good as what it was when The Toast was under the previous owners. Two people with basic breakfasts was just under $34 before the tip. The portions were huge. what we got for the two of us would just two breakfasts was easily large enough to feed four or five people. Have been once for lunch and it was overpriced but ok. Came back for breakfast and it was the worst breakfast I've ever had in my life. Ordered corned beef and hash and it came out looking like raw diced potatoes with chunks of ham in. Also had brown mucousy looking random pieces of mystery meat or vegetables in it. Wasn't edible. Ordered an egg fried hard and it came out with the whites still see through and was completely raw except for the bottom that maybe touched the griddle for 20 seconds. Terrible service! First time ever stepping foot in this place! Never ordered and won't try again! Service is beyond appalling! There were several folks there at breakfast. The hostess said it would be about a 10 minute wait because the kitchen was behind. She cleaned and set all of the tables. There were several tables cleaned. There were 3 older ladies ahead of us that had been waiting longer than my wife and I. My wife has leg problems and can't stand for long periods of time! I finally asked the hostess if she could at least seat the ladies for their wait. She blew up on me telling me how she said it'd be a 10 minute wait. Why couldn't we wait sitting for instead of being a fire hazard in front of the door. The hostess was extremely rude and disrespectful chasing us out the door yelling at us! Right off the bat, the place reeks of cigarette smoke. it smells so bad I had a hard time enjoying my food. although there wasn't much to enjoy as the food was very bad. Ok I'd recommend stopping, look at the old place, and move on. By far the worst breakfast I've had in a long time. I stopped in today while in town on business and ordered the Denver Omelet. The egg portion was way over cooked and tough, the veggies where raw and still cold in the omelet, the ham well they forgot the ham. Was there this past Sunday 11/10 and business was booming. My only complaint is with the guy a manager called the bread man. He was handling food orders to be served, with no gloves on. I asked the young blonde lady manager why he wasn't wearing gloves. She said he's the bread man, and his hands are always clean. She never said anything to him about putting gloves on. I made mention of this to a cook, and waitress who did say something to him. He was handed glove which he put on, but soon took off. Me, and 2 patrons next to me, continued to watch him as he later scratched his neck, touch his hair, and put his finger in his ear as to scratch it, all while touching the order screen and handling plates of food. My food was good but just lukewarm once I got it, but I totally understand. The order out area was congested, and at times looking confused as to the way things were being handled. It was super busy and my waitress was swamped. The restaurant was clean but we didn't quite understand the power cord running across the lunch counter. Will try again once the newness wears off.
