This is a tricky instrument, but I had taken music lessons for much of my life and wanted to really master this one. As an adult there is nothing more frustrating than a music teacher giving you 'Mary Had a Little Lamb' to practice! I showed up with a Chopin piece at my first lesson and rather than tell me I couldn't play that, she said, 'let's give it a go!' Lani treated me as an adult from the beginning, with adult iinterests. She has always pushed me beyond my abitliy and made piano fun at the same time. When things got a bit frustratiing she sensed the need for a change and a different piece of music was introduced, yet we always came back to the frustrating music at a later date, and as a result I Ihave some wonderful pieces in my repertoire. Lani is the one of the kindest people I know and her love for the instrument is palpable. It's fun watching her nerd out on piano theory and making theory fun for students as well! But piano is not only about the music. Piano is about getting to know yourself, experiencing the frustration together with someone you can trust to keep your best interests at heart. I have grown as a person through the years of piano lessons, and I do believe a great teacher will help one grow. Seeing her students go on to study music in college may be the biggest compliment one can give to Lani as a music teacher. Her upbeat attitude and positivity are infectious. She makes the lessons fun and engaging. I was literally going to cancel this morning but she beat me to it because when I pointed out that she demands respect for her time but gives none for ours it becomes clear she's not the right person to be dealing with... as the adult paying the $300 a month for zoom lessons. zoom. not in person. zoom. For her to call me aggressive for asking to end a lesson 10 minutes early and her telling me to cancel and lose the $60 with almost zero communication as to why i responded by acknowledging that her demand for respect on scheduling only goes one way, hers, and that's not Ok with us, she then proceeded to call me 'aggressive' . Lol Not in the slightest. I've got text receipts. Anyhow, if you like people canceling last minute, not refunding you and only teaching on zoom for an outlandish fee then by all means. But it's a big no thank you from us.

I have always admired the cello and really wanted to learn. I was unsure of how difficult this would be not knowing how to read notes and possibly not having enough time to practice. This is where Carli comes in - she is a godsend. Carli is extremely patient and focuses a lot on technique, which I really appreciate. I also like that she focuses on nailing down the basics - the bow hold, shifting and scales so you have all the tools to play most any song and play it well! She also goes above and beyond and has often gone over the lesson time to make sure I get things right. Further, she suggested extra material and pointers that I have found very helpful while learning the instrument and techniques. Make no mistake, the cello is a difficult instrument to learn and master but Carli makes this process easy. In addition to her incredible skills as a cello instructor, she is very accommodating with her time. This is important for me since my schedule tends to change a lot and she has always been flexible. I highly recommend Carli as a cello instructor for people of all ages. She is an extremely gifted teacher and a wonderful person to boot!

Forcing me to relearn everything. At first, I had to string my Violin/Fiddle backwards and played it that way. The Orchestra teacher at Sprague high was so jealous that I had successfully done this he told me "You are not good enough for my Orchestra." So, I did not play in High school. However, I had a surgery usually only done on Parkensens Patients where, there is a lesion in my brain so, yep, now I can and do play the correct way again. I originally learned in Eugene, Ore. the Suzuki method so, I won't be near as difficult to teach. Just please let me know about how much it may cost and any other info you may feel I need to know.
