Her eye for material and color is spot on. She pushed me to go outside my comfort zone which elevated the look and feel of the space. The flow from our entry way into a large living/dining space and our photo wall of memories makes me smile every time I come home. I appreciated her effort to stay within my budget .. finding less expensive but quality pieces in a few places so that I could get my must haves. It truly was a pleasure to work with her.

She transformed the Studio 300 sq ft to have distinct living, dining, sleeping, and working spaces. She tamed the chaos and created a tranquil space employing textures, artwork, storage, and layout. Our daughter and her puppy love their place. We found the perfect BPC 2 bedroom and needing it move in ready in just 4 weeks, she created a livable contemporary design with custom artwork, sourcing new furnishings, which we never would have picked ourselves, but love, and coordinated all painters and any contractors. On move in day, we filled the pantry, hung our clothes and just started living. What a treat to not have had to worry and just enjoy our new place. No matter what your space, Tina can work her design magic and make it stunningly, comfortably yours.

First, the design questionnaire was excellent - especially for someone like me who doesn't know much about interior design. It was able to identify my design preferences by showing different living rooms and asking which ones were to my liking. In addition, its questions served as a great preparation for the home visit, so Stephanie came well prepared for our meeting. Stephanie was very creative, professional, and helpful throughout the process. When she visited my place, we decided on a design together, in an efficient process, where she was able to translate my needs and preferences to interior design decisions and furniture choices. After two weeks, she assembled a furniture shopping list, within the budget I requested. I purchased all items she suggested. The furniture items were sourced from many furniture stores and I felt she did an excellent job finding items that were beautiful, fit the overall design, and reasonably priced. I get nothing but compliments about my place (even from my Architect friend who is quite stingy with design related complements...). Well done Stephanie! As to the cost-effectiveness of the service - had I done this process myself (even with friends help), I would have surely spent more time, more money, getting worse results. Finally, the service was well structured and transparent. Good stuff overall.

I saw a passive house he was gut renovating in Park Slope, and it was absolutely stunning! Jim knows how to preserve historic details while bringing the design into the modern era in a tasteful, classic way. He exudes calmness and wisdom and is a pleasure to be around. Full disclosure in that I ultimately had to choose a less experienced architect because Jim's fee, although completely reasonable given his level of skill and expertise, was a bit out of our price range.

The quality…read moreof his work and suggestions were exactly what we wanted based on my husband and my feedback. Jim is very detailed and each week during renovation, we had him manage the project with the contractor to ensure the final output was done properly. Most Manhattan apartments are not symmetrical, so the early stage on doing things a certain way goes a long way on the final look. He understands plumbing, and electrical well to communicate to our contractors. He referred us to a HVAC engineer. When it came to interior design, we had Sarah who provided feedback and suppliers information. She was also very helpful. Jim knows the DOB process well and helped us resolved many issues even during covid and DOB rule changed in 2020 and 2021. We also had him manage the project with the contractors. The contractors don't have the same design eyes and were a bit sloppy and forgetful so it was imperative to have Jim help us. Urban charges by the hour and provided an accurate estimate of the cost. Make sure what projects he's working on so he can allocate time properly. In the beginning with the design drawing schematic, it took a while cause he was on a couple of brownstone projects but overall still have a very positive experience with Jim. He was responsive.

I didn't need an architect. I needed a fun-loving design team who could take my ideas and bring them to life (and they had their own in-house architect, Hal Dorfman, who in the end, was fantastic in ensuring a smooth process). Robyn, Liz, Lisa & intern AJ were a delight to work with--their humor, kindness, and ability to keep on task regardless of the many hurdles thrown at the project along the way were inspiring and stress-reducing. They were always available, super fast to respond, and kept me sane during the entire year it took to convince my building's engineer my apartment rehab would be feasible. Robyn was able to bring to life every idea I had in her original design plans and when they weren't feasible she found terrific workarounds that were as good if not better. Her knowledge of local craftspeople (custom millwork, custom upholstery, appliances, lighting) was exceptional. Liz's careful eye for detail was terrific in how she helped pick really wise and fun furniture, fabric, and lighting choices. The many lighting challenges of my mid-Century building were handled with ease. Lisa kept me apprised of budget, contractors, and billing issues throughout and coordinated so many financial details. As a team, we ended up, through a lot of intense collaboration, with an end product that was stunning and beyond what any of us had originally conceived and dramatically altered the space. The many months delay in getting final approval to renovate became time to fine-tune and make creative adjustments that resulted in a spectacular gut rehab. After walking away for many months the best part came at the reveal--I didn't want to see it until it was complete. That wow moment and the joy of seeing it 99% together was a day I will never forget. Every room has a wow factor and has so many fun, creative, and useful elements. I could not be happier and am so grateful to Studio D with the investment of time and resources that we made to create not just a home but a live-work sanctuary for decades to come.
