First, the design questionnaire was excellent - especially for someone like me who doesn't know much about interior design. It was able to identify my design preferences by showing different living rooms and asking which ones were to my liking. In addition, its questions served as a great preparation for the home visit, so Stephanie came well prepared for our meeting. Stephanie was very creative, professional, and helpful throughout the process. When she visited my place, we decided on a design together, in an efficient process, where she was able to translate my needs and preferences to interior design decisions and furniture choices. After two weeks, she assembled a furniture shopping list, within the budget I requested. I purchased all items she suggested. The furniture items were sourced from many furniture stores and I felt she did an excellent job finding items that were beautiful, fit the overall design, and reasonably priced. I get nothing but compliments about my place (even from my Architect friend who is quite stingy with design related complements...). Well done Stephanie! As to the cost-effectiveness of the service - had I done this process myself (even with friends help), I would have surely spent more time, more money, getting worse results. We found the perfect BPC 2 bedroom and needing it move in ready in just 4 weeks, she created a livable contemporary design with custom artwork, sourcing new furnishings, which we never would have picked ourselves, but love, and coordinated all painters and any contractors. She really took the time to take our needs, lifestyle, and design aesthetic into consideration when she created our outdoor garden (no easy task given the awkward layout of the space, windy conditions, and my need for outdoor art). She really takes the "living" room concept seriously as her designs are both beautiful and comfortable. Emma and her team have now planted our garden for three years in a row. Every year, it's something different. And every year, it's breathtaking. Working with Alicia, the lead designer of Broooklinteriors made my life easier and way more…read morebeautiful! I found Brooklinteriors on instagram and was originally struck by how, unlike many designers, Alicia did not adhere to a single style across all her projects, but really understood the style of each client. I checked a bunch of her references (because I was very nervous about finding someone on social media!) and they all said the same thing: you get so much more than what you're paying for when you work with Brooklinteriors. I have found that to be true a hundred times over. Alicia helped us put the finishing touches on our home renovation project--sourcing and positioning cabinet pulls, fixing lighting problems, and designing and upholstering a window seat cushion. Then we moved on the furnishings--the fun part. After creating a inspiration board, Alicia researched and presented me with many options for dining tables, couches, chairs, and more. I was struck by all the interesting, often local, and affordable companies she sourced pieces from--pillows from two sisters who are based in my neighborhood, a USA made leather ottoman with a cool table that nests on top-- she introduced me to so many brands and craftsmen that I had never heard of! She found gorgeous art and accessories made by artists that we are very happy to showcase in our home. Alicia managed the ordering, schedule, and even a couple tricky returns/refunds for everything we picked. She is meticulous and her attention to detail throughout the entire process was super-human! Throughout the project, she was respectful of our budget--never suggesting or pushing anything outrageous and often finding pieces that were priced lower than I anticipated paying. She was also very open to feedback, if a piece wasn't quite right, she wasn't married to it, and would quickly find new options for that space. The overall effect is a home that truly represents our lifestyle and aesthetic, but with more unique and interesting elements than we could have designed on our own. I'm eager to do another part of my house so Alicia can work with us again. That being said, she never really stops working on a project--she thinks of me often for little additions (like art) that we may want to add to the space and pops by whenever I have questions about what to do next. I started working with Alicia at a time when our lives were pretty chaotic--I was starting my own business and moving into a new home, among other things--it was so nice to have Alicia leading the design. I walked past after seeing a movie and was immediately greeted by the owners wife. She told me a little bit about the store, her wife, and offered to help me find anything if needed. Everyone working there was very kind. The Black Home is one of those stores that you cannot walk out empty handed because there's something you want, need, or didn't even know you wanted or needed. The store has a mix of pricier and not too expensive items (the wine glasses were absolutely adorable) ...I walked away with a mug and a candle that had a dreamy and sexy scent. They have items for the home - robes, incense, adorable glassware, candles, and more. They also had a DJ when I went it and was just an all around great vibe. I'll have to walk out the other way next time so I don't spend all my $$! Jk. I'll be back.
