I've been a patient here for years. Things have changed. 1. The receptionist desk is completely inadequate. Expect to be put on hold permanently until you hang up. An a subsequent call, the receptionist said she'd call me right back, and didn't call back at all. When I left my comprehensive appointment, I was given either someone else's prescription, or an incorrect one. 2. I don't know the name of the doctor I saw (neither of the Dr. Nightingales, for the first time). He seemed competent enough, and I had no complaints at all - except that I left the practice with the wrong prescription - a single one for a progressive pair of glasses (which I haven't worn in years), and not for the two pairs I HAVE worn for years which I came to update. Since the receptionist is incompetent and doesn't answer or return phone calls, I don't know if the doctor or the desk was at fault for the wrong prescriptions. When I finally had a call answered, the receptionist sounded confused by the problem, but said she would email the correct prescriptions "in an hour." Shocker: she didn't. A subsequent call, and the receptionist said she'd call me right back. Shocker: she didn't. On my fourth or fifth call, I spoke to someone different, who took charge and finally sent what I THINK are the correct prescriptions. All of this delayed the new glasses by at least 5 days and counting (partly because of the weekend.) I'm now expecting to shift either to the excellent Dr. Hornbeck around the corner, whom I've seen before, or downgrade to simple optician in-house eye-testing for routine glasses/contacts prescriptions. read more

I did not see the MD's, I saw the optometrist. But the staff behind the counter are not the most friendly-they can't be bothered with you. And they are noisy! Loud and laughing-annoying. The music is kind of new age-it could be worse, but that was annoying too. And they was another patient who was talking, loudly, on the phone forever-even took it to the bathroom with her. All I wanted to do was sit quietly and read my book until I was called in. I understand these are minor complaints. I was finally called in by a resident optometrist. He was the best-he was kind and understanding - took his time and listened to what I was saying. Then the regular optometrist came in. He was OK, but it was clear that he wanted to get rid of me...."any questions? OK good night'. He must have said 'good night' 5 times-couldn't get me out of there fast enough. Money-Hungry, Uncaring, and Borderline-dishonest The first mistake I made was upon arriving for my first appointmen at this practice. I was greeted with the information that a check-up, which I'd scheduled, required a $100 test that insurance doesn't cover. I replied that I'd have to cancel my appointment and headed for the door. As I reached for the knob I was told I could skip this test after all. I should have kept walking. Impressed by Dr. Nightingale's fancy diplomas, I returned to this practice a few years later and, as I was expecting, was told I needed cataract surgery in both eyes. Then I was told that in order to schedule this I'd have to make another appointment, involving another co-pay, for the exclusive purpose of scheduling surgery. Dr. Nightingale mentioned that he strongly recommended laser-assisted surgery but said I could decide between this and traditional eye surgery. At the scheduling appointment the person who handled this for Dr. Nightingale began laying out the cost of laser surgery in the waiting room, in front of five other patients. She acted annoyed when I asked if we could do this in private. When we got to a private space I asked if she could wear a mask, as I was, since she was hovering over me. She refused and I had to have the office manager instruct her to put a mask on. I was all but sold on paying more than $4,000 for each surgery. When I saw Dr. Nightingale for my six-month post-surgery appointment and reported continuing to see bright haloes and spokes around lights at night, he told me (I couldn't make this up) to see an ophthalmologist. I've been using Dr Andrew Nightingale for the past three years as he needs to monitor an eye problem I have that I take drops for. My vision is perfect but I need checkups a couple of times a year to ensure that my eyes stay healthy. Dr Nightingale is a nice guy and a great doctor. Went in for a consultation on cataract surgery. Good facility and friendly staff. But be careful to get full information on what is and isn't covered by insurance. When I reviewed the paperwork later, I realized that I had been bamboozled into a so-called "premium" surgery when all i needed, like most patients, was just routine cataract surgery. The difference is about $4,300! No one at the office, least of all the doctor, pointed this out. My regular eye doctor says all the cataract surgeons push the "premium" service because they are unhappy with the amount the insurance companies pay for routine cataract surgery. read more

I visited Dr. Nightingale's office on Central Park West a couple months ago to have my peepers checked out. His staff was friendly, efficient and his waiting room was very comfortable and clean. He even had a closet to hang up my bag and coat, something most doctors I've been to don't have. After an initial check up by his staff, the doctor met with me and was very patient. All too often doctors act like they're trying to run out on you as fast as they can. He took the time to talk to me and explain the test I was undergoing and he listened to my concerns. Clearly this is a doctor who understands that only part of being a doctor is treating the physical, part of it is psychological as well. I can't say enough about how great an experience I had at Dr. Nightingale's office. I was planning to do LASIK, so I wanted to go to someone reputable even if it meant I had to travel to NYC. First, it's very easy to get to. From Penn Station, I took a subway that took me just a block and a half away. The office is tucked away on the side of the famous Beresford - you know, the gorgeous landmark, Central Park West building where the rich celebrities live. The office waiting room is small, and can feel a bit cramped when full, as it was during one of my visits. But, it's tranquil and there's a water cooler, magazines, coat check and a rest room right there. Dr. Nightingale is personable and friendly and has a calming way about him. He did not rush through the consult or exam as other doctors I've seen have. The pre-op was on a Thursday at the office while the procedure itself was at 55th on the East Side the following day. There was a bit of a wait, but Dr. Nightingale would poke his head in every so often to let me know when I could expect to be seen. That was a nice touch that kept me from feeling too anxious. The procedure last about ten minutes, and I felt minimal discomfort. I did have to have my right eye treated again a month later, and that was painful, but after he gave me a painkiller, I rested my eye, and felt fine the next day. Now, over two years later, I can report that having LASIK done was the best decision of my life. In follow-up visits, he continues to be caring and provides excellent service. read more

I like Dr. Nightingale. I was searching "eye doctor" on Emblem Health website. Of course, I try visit somebody near my place. I start make phone calls. Some doctors works only certain days (very inconvenient), other offices front desk were terrible, "rude" over phone. Finally I discover Andrew B. Nightingale (Emblem Health website, he is listed as Jeffrey Nightingale, just for your knowledge) . On first call to office I got impress, lady put me on hold, 7 mins later she return to me, apologies to keep me on hold, ask me to wait a few more minutes. A few minutes later she answer all my questions, advice me regarding referral and possible fees not cover by my insurance. (Wow, usually other places I received that info regarding "surprise" fees after). From past experience I remember, if receptionist nice, doctor usually terrible, or vice versa. But Dr. Nightingale are exception. Waiting time between registration, test made by staff and contact with doctor were short. Friendly, professional, attentive listener. He help me with my problem. Not every person but two women in particular, biggest offender being Stephanie, are a detriment to the practice. I have waited hours in the waiting room, and that hasn't been a deal-breaker because I do feel the doctors are great, but the front office staff are rude and dismissive. Had a very good doctor appointment. The problem is the billing and honoring of health insurance. 10 months after my appointment for a regular first-time eye exam I get a bill for $516 or so. I call Nightingale Eye Associates to ask why they didn't get paid by my insurance (one of the 3 biggest companies that referred me to Nightingale and they accept). The person immediately tells me that I did not give them a referral and it was a requirement. While they are correct that I forgot to do that, at NO point when I presented my insurance card and confirmed that we are set for the visit to be covered by my insurance did they ask for a referral. That has NEVER been the case for any other specialist appointment I have had. Others require me to provide the referral before the appointment to ensure payment is arranged. The way the Nightingale person responded that "all I can do is cut your bill in half" was suspicious. Is that amount more than they would have received if they submitted the invoice to the payor? All concerning and NOT patient friendly. Will work with my insurance company to clean up the situation. Just find the events problematic and thought others should know. read more

I've been to this office twice. I was examined the first time by the son and the second time by the father. My first visit went so well that I was thinking about giving the practice a glowing five star review. Everyone was friendly, polite, and professional during the visit. The phone call I received to confirm was by some girl who called me, "Janine" instead of, "Jeannie". I corrected her but I guess that didn't stick. One morning I received a call regarding my second appointment (this was a follow up) by the same girl who made the same mistake AGAIN. Now, I don't know about you but I think it's inexcusable to call a patient by a completely different name. That infuriated me. I said my peace while pounding on the wall. Keep in mind this was somewhere between 10 and 10:30 in the morning so it wasn't like her eyes should be tired. I went for my follow up and was heated. I was called to the back by a female employee who had been very pleasant on my prior exam and told me to sit in a chair that had a used tissue on it. Why didn't she notice this and why did she give me a dirty look when I mentioned it? I am not the office cleaning person. I will not move a filthy tissue that someone left behind because they were a lazy pig and I'm sure not going to sit on it. She sensed that I was not in a good mood and asked if I wanted to reschedule. Rescheduling was not an option. I told her what happened and when I told her that I thought that the girl who called was an illiterate moron (if I didn't say, "moron" I may have said, "idiot") she made a veiled threat and then tried to put me in check. She said that she wasn't "going to allow" me to say what I experienced on the phone? Really? Was she going to hit me? She kept telling me to calm down as she continued to get an increasingly menacing attitude when I told her she should. Talk about professionalism! Evidently she told Dr. Nightingale because when he came in he was angry and said that I prevented his staff from doing their job. Let's see, I was told to sit in a chair with a dirty tissue left by someone other than myself and dealt with an employee who couldn't control her anger issues because she supposedly wasn't having a good day so I guess that's how I prevented anyone from doing their job. Okay, I don't think so. Dr. Nightingale listened to my side of the interactions I had and despite him trying to justify things it seemed for the most part he finally saw the light. However, he still did not seem to understand the importance of the staff knowing the pronunciation of patients' names. I said the girl could call my husband in the future to confirm but he wouldn't allow that. However, he wrote on my file to call me by my actual name, "Jeannie" and not "Janine". I was highly considering having him do LASIK on me but I don't want to worry about retaliation or corners being cut. If patients' names and safety aren't important, why would I trust that person to perform such a surgery? Now keep in mind that was my second visit. It was the COMPLETE opposite of my first. I felt like I was in the Twilight Zone. I thought long and hard about this but I am NOT going back. I don't want to worry about my safety. read more

It's a pleasure to write this review about Dr. Nightingale. He came highly recommended by a friend who had LASIK. I went for a free consultation and found him to be very warm, personable and attentive. Most important for me was that he projects a real sense of concern, experience and confidence. His Central Park West office is modern, high tech, and warm. This is not a clinic like so many of the LASIK Centers I have heard about. The Staff are friendly and informative. They told me about the different payment plans that are available. I have to admit, the day I had the procedure, I was a little nervous, but Dr. Nightingale was so reassuring that I felt very comfortable. Best of all, within 15 minutes, I was done! I don't believe there are enough superlatives to describe my experiences with Dr. Andrew Nightingale at Nightingale Eye Associates. My primary physician had referred me to Dr. Nightingale when I was having some odd flashing and blurring in my right eye. Although he diagnosed me correctly, assuring me that the symptoms were temporary, he also discovered a cataract forming on my right eye. We put a watch on it and, after a year, I returned for a check-up. At that point, the cataract had progressed to the point that it was necessary to address the problem and, as it happened, a new cataract had developed in my left eye. Throughout the process, the doctor and his entire staff were warm, welcoming, informative, reassuring and, most importantly, the epitome of professionalism. I cannot begin to thank everyone at Nightingale Eye Associates enough and I have to admit, I would never have believed the stunning results I've had since the surgeries. I thought Dr. Nightingale was lovely until I said that the glasses prescription he gave me wasn't quite right, as I was still having sight issues. After leaving work early and then having to wait two hours for an appointment (I wish I was exaggerating), I talked with him about my issues and he gave me a hard time, wrote another prescription (which he made me pay for) and moved me out of the office. I was embarrassed and still experiencing a serious vision issue that gave me serious headaches. I learned later, from a different doctor, that it was a vision issue that therapy would fix -- and did fix. Maybe he was just having a bad day, or thought I was someone who liked to complain, or is not familiar with the issue I had, but regardless, I didn't feel anything he did that day was professional or caring. read more

I can't recommend dr. Nightingale enough to anyone who is considering laser eye surgery. I met with at least 3 other eye doctors who were offering lasik, performed my free eye examination and offered free first time consultation appointments, before I made my decision. It was only Dr nightingale who had patient answers to all my questions and concerns and made me feel at ease about the procedure. He knows what he is doing and you feel comfortable discussing everything that concerns you from what you have heard from online on social media to what other people with previous lasik experience have to say. Here are a few points that may help you make your decision -flexible dates -knowledgeable doctor -over 16 years+ experience. -he uses latest technology. I don't remember what it's called now but at the time I was doing my research, it was the most up to date one in the world of lasik (I had been researching on the internet about the types of machines they use and the kind of laser cutting tools and their post op effects and accuracy etc.. ) -short procedure (but I do recommend you bring a family member for support on the day of the surgery because of the Xanax) -surgery is not performed at the central park west and 81st location. There's another office that he tells you to visit for the actual procedure. -total cost for me $4500. That includes pre and post op appointments, free unlimited touch ups (which the doctor reassures you you won't ever need) -easy to reach the doctor personally after the surgery. -staff is extremely friendly and respectful. I didn't pay until the day before my surgery due to laziness. They accept all forms of payment methods so there's no problem there. -he walks you through the whole procedure and during the procedure he tells you exactly what he's doing which,for me, was really comforting. -follow ups: the day after surgery, then 2 days after that, 6 weeks later, then 2 months after that. (Not sure after that since I am not there yet) Please consider that this review is based on my experience. I was the perfect candidate for lasik in terms of age, my eye prescription and my eye's dimensions. If you are skeptical about the surgery, talk to him! He explains things beautifully. Everything good people say about it is true. Lasik surgery really is all that and more. To me the best result of the surgery is that you don't notice anything once you are used to the concept of not having to grab your glasses or wear your contacts everyday. You have no pain and can go back to your regular schedule the day after (except I took a whole weekend sleeping due to the Xanax .. I just don't fair well with prescription meds). read more
