They suggested I go to the emergency room for further evaluation. My first thought I told Patient First and my wife was Holy Cross. My mother is out of state but has a good friend whose parents live in the area so asked for her reccomendation which was Suburban. Hence I went here for my first adult ER visit. It really isn't far from home in Downtown Silver Spring by Uber at all, especially with no traffic. Upon arriving at the emergency room the staff checks me in and gets me taken care of right away with the EKG, bloodwork, virus/infection swab, and went to room. The response here was rapid given it was a heart concern. ERs are not supposed to be a place anyone is a fan of going but this was an amazing experience. Everything they did was state of the art including the swab and CT scan that found the bacteria causing both a sinus infection and pneumonia. My doctor was amazing, Matthew Leonard. The nurses were all great too. They gave me two forms of antibiotics there that they called into the pharmacy which my wife got the next morning. This allowed me per the doctor's directions to be able to fly out and see my mother and family for a wedding as long as I initially mask around others. Hard to believe they and I pulled that off but we did. It is a Hopkins hospital right across from NIH and near Walter Reed as well so this may be the best of the best. I definitely have a preferred hospital now.

I was equally impressed by the dedication of the janitorial staff, whose efforts did not go unnoticed, and the dietary team, who provided good meal options tailored to a low-sodium, fluid-restriction diet. I credit my ability to get through nine days and eight nights to the incredible team of doctors and physician assistants--Stephanie, Judy, and Jezli--whose collaborative and proactive approach made a meaningful difference in improving my quality of life. I am forever grateful for the care, professionalism, and compassion shown to me during my stay and by the Billing Department (Karen).

Today, I got the chance to experience what the nation's top medical research agency had to offer. First & foremost, if you do not have to drive, PLEASE take Metro...hindsight regarding parking is most absolutely 20/20. Plus a little exercise doesn't hurt anybody. I had an interview today, yet not before the 'screening for access' took place: Pull vehicle forward. Turn off engine. Leave door open. & then take all of your belongings, including every piece of computer & or electronic devices on your person. While the vehicle was getting screened, so was I. After a few minutes of having my ID scanned more ways than one, providing the small piece of paper from the initial license plate log in, I was giving a temporary visitor pass with a full headshot & my name displayed. I was then allowed to go on my way. A way that took 30 minutes of following the map to the dedicated building. Actually, locating the building only took 10 minutes with a couple of u-turns here & there, yet finding parking was the most time consumption. Kudos to the NIH police officer off the Old G-Town Road gateway entry for pointing me in the right direction to a MLP (Multi-Level Parking garage) that had spaces available. I'm sure if I passed him one more time, he would not have been as friendly. :-) Although I arrived 45 minutes early, I was now against the clock from finding the building & a parking space. & in clutch mode, the kind spirited parking attendant MLP-6 heard my internal plea & told me to leave my keys with her & to be on my way...THANK YOU Ms. T -working the AM shift! After a few more friendly fingers pointing me in the right direction, I arrived to the laboratory, one of many massive laboratories housed in one building. Well perhaps I knocked on the wrong door at first, yet the Lab Techs & eventually the Lab Manager were all very nice turning me around to the appropriate laboratory. Every facet of a person I crossed paths with today, whether maintenance, law enforcement-security check in, clinical, scientific, & even an Educator, was simply pleasant & helpful. I can only imagine the camaraderie amongst everyone within these 27 different institutes that makes up NIH. & their own personal stamp in discovering innovations to improve health & or save lives. What an amazing & well manicured campus of greenery, LEED buildings, handicap parking spaces, parking buildings (mostly for permit holders), LED crosswalks, & of course the never ending maze of getting around.

Driving and parking can be tricky as its right off 355, I'd encourage you to take public transit if you can. There are many, many buildings including a hospital onsite as well as many other offices. When arriving if you're not a staff member you'll need to go in through one of the main entry buildings. There is one literally steps from the Medical Center Station, be sure to bring a government issued photo ID, and the security screening process is similar to what you'd encounter at the airport. Depending on the time of day the lines can be pretty long. Once through the security area you head out the door and there are various shuttle buses that will take you around campus, just be sure to take the correct bus as some buses make stops to other NIH buildings not on the main campus. This place is pretty self contained, there's cafeterias in some of the buildings, a credit union on-site, and plenty of nice paths to walk around. On the campus you'll find a unique mix of really old buildings, mid-century buildings, and newer modern buildings. I was in one of the mid-century buildings and it needed some refreshing. I was here for a meeting and the meeting facilities were nice although basic which is what I've come to expect at a government facility. Although the room was spacious and accommodated the group that was in attendance. Overall a nice place, people who worked there were approachable as I wasn't quite sure where I was headed. Although if you're there for an event or meeting, I'd advise getting there at least 45 minutes ahead of time if you want to be on time.

It is a huge hospital and they have done a great job on modernizing the hospital and adding new buildings to increase the hospital size. First, let me say that trying to get in the right parking lot area was a challenge. One entrance was closed and that left the other parking area extremely crowded. The staff and people who work there are angels. I ended up in the wrong area of the hospital for my test, so the nurse at the desk actually took me to the right area. That was so nice. That was so kind and above and beyond her job description. I did wait for about 30 minutes, but once I got in, the test was completed in a timely manner and I could go home. The technician who completed the test was very nice and professional. Parking was a bit expensive, but I think all hospital parking lots are. I would recommend Sibley Memorial Hospital to anyone who needs medical care. They are a John's Hopkins Hospital and their doctors and nurses are excellent.

I was impressed, most doctors, I encounter are always in a hurry and want you to get on board with their rush rush rush attitudes. Dr. Baker was patient, kind, and very focused on my needs and how he could help me. I went to Urgent Care the night before I went to Holy Cross Hospital ER the wait was, like 3 minutes and I was back in pain before I even got home. Now I know why the wait was so long at Holy Cross Hospital's ER, everybody's bypassing Urgent Care (bandage care) and going to the ER. I know I am done with Urgent Care, it was a waste of my time.

Probably more like 3.5 stars, but can't commit to justifying rounding up to 4…read more WRNMMC is my primary care facility, so I have seen MANY of the clinics/specialties/departments within the hospital (to include the ER). I like that the hospital has essentially any care that you might need, but many of the clinics have long waits to get seen for referrals (3+ weeks, oftentimes). Furthermore, some of the departments are generally unresponsive unless you physically go to the desk in person to talk to them (ortho is an example of this -at least in my experience). Overall, I have had generally good experiences (physical therapy, active duty sick call, podiatry, outpatient behavioral health, and medical readiness are the departments I think I've seen the most), and the few times I had not so great experiences, they were at the level that I contacted Patient Advocacy. OH, I have seen Comprehensive Dentistry recently - specifically Dr. Martini, and he's GREAT! Also, Dr. Smith (orofacial pain doc working in Primary Care Dentistry). Both 11/10. Otherwise, the parking here can be debatable depending on what time of day you come to the hospital and which garage or location you park in. Now that they have reopened the Arrowhead garage, hopefully the parking situation improves in the America garage. There are also some food places - particularly a little row in the basement/bottom floor that has some places to eat and a Navy Federal branch. There is also a small coffee shop situation if you park in the America garage and you're walking inside heading to the America zone, as well as a small shoppette situation right after that.

I recently visited the Holy Cross ER and had a mixed experience…read more First, I want to recognize the physicians who cared for me. Every doctor I interacted with was outstanding. They kept me informed about my condition, explained my treatment plan, and made sure I understood what was happening. I truly appreciated their professionalism and compassion. I also want to give special recognition to my night nurse, Victoria. She was exceptional kind, attentive, and caring. She made me feel comfortable and well cared for throughout the night. Unfortunately, my experience with my morning nurse was very disappointing. I did not see him until around 8:30 a.m., after I specifically asked for my RN. I had not eaten anything for more than 24 hours and asked if I could order breakfast. He told me he would come back, but he didn't return. Around 10:00 a.m., I asked another nurse if I could order breakfast. That nurse said he would check with my assigned nurse. About 30 minutes later, my nurse finally came back and told me I could not order food because I was being discharged. This was confusing because no one had informed me that I was being discharged. After receiving a blood transfusion, the doctor had told me I would likely be admitted for 24 to 48 hours for observation. I calmly explained that I had been asking for breakfast all morning, but instead of acknowledging my concern, my nurse became defensive and said there was nothing he could do. He offered to call the charge nurse, but I told him I wasn't trying to argue over food and that I could eat once I got home. He then removed my IVs, placed my discharge papers on my bed, and left without reviewing them with me or explaining any discharge instructions. A short time later, another nurse came in and introduced herself as my nurse. I explained that no one had reviewed my discharge paperwork with me, and she kindly took the time to go over everything. I appreciated her willingness to step in. Finally, no one officially discharged me or assisted me in leaving. I wasn't told where the exit was, whether I needed a wheelchair, or what the discharge process was. I had to figure out on my own how to leave the hospital. Overall, I am grateful for the excellent care I received from the doctors, Victoria, and the nurse who took the time to explain my discharge instructions. However, my experience with my morning nurse and the discharge process fell well below the level of care I expected. I hope this feedback helps improve communication, responsiveness, and the discharge experience for future patients.

Kristin answered, "Yes, but because I hate having this done as a patient, I want to make sure it is done right as a professional." That is exactly the kind of empathy we need in our healthcare system. They administered a large dose of IV antibiotics which just knocked me out. One of at least two Dr. Leonards was very good. I am the first to complain. I am the first to compliment. They are great. Other hospitals should aspire to that.

I have had some faith restored in this facility. Medstar is a giant campus. It is easy to get lost…read moreinside all the buildings. But there are lots of staff at check in desks to direct you. Hubby & I spent time in the ER after an auto accident. The nurses and staff were very nice. I could keep up with my care by receiving updates on my phone. Lab results and X-rays are sent. The check in process seems much more efficient. I still don't like the crowded middle area of the ER. The ER bathrooms get an F. They are gross. We felt lucky to have one of the private rooms. The nurses are the gatekeepers to getting answers. I was able to get details and problem solve because people were willing to help me. Tips: Bring snacks and cleaning wipes. Most offices use media pads to check you in. They don't get cleaned after each patient. Hand sanitizer is provided. Panera is in the main building. You can order from the kiosk. If you are being picked up or dropped off - use the bus circle. Most drivers don't pay attention and will bail, depending where you are. The ER is the worst place to be abandoned. The one exception is physical therapy: National Rehabilitation Network. They have their own physical address and entrance. Parking is now $6. There are two free metro shuttles. The pick up area is by physical therapy at 102 Irving Street & the bus circle. Pay attention to the signs on the bus and ask the driver what the destination is. Otherwise you could be on an employee shuttle. The only places that validate parking: National Rehabilitation Network and the ER. Neuroscience has its own free parking lot. The gift shop has some snacks. It is near the main building, not far from security check in. Kindness matters. You will usually receive the same amount of kindness that you give.

No amount of flailing my feet nor using my free arm to swipe the inside of the machine helped. and as soon as I went in, I wondered why I didn't get the "help ball" to squeeze/alert if needed :( And thennnnn, I go back to my dressing room. The Sign on the door said, in use. I knock and wait. No one responded, so I entered. I get about 90 percent dressed when a Male employee walks in! Wtf. He apologizes and leaves. No knock, nothing! Just walks into a dressing room where the sign still said IN USE. He was wearing a burgundy type of scrub with I think was a long sleeve black shirt underneath MRI parking now has some machine that takes up about 85% of the parking. Apparently, many people were complaining about the white film/dust that was getting on their cars from top of the ER. This happened to me, and I posted on here about it. So that moved whatever issue to this parking lot. Will be there a few years, I was told.
