Barbershops opened back up today and I couldn't wait to get in and see my man Kevin at Niko's. As always, he did a great job. More importantly, during this crazy time it was great to see all the staff wearing masks, making sure the place was spotless (it always is but they were putting in the extra effort), and adjusting to social distance protocols. I first went to Niko all the way back 2011 when his was in his smaller shop on Thurman's. This was always my go to place for a good haircut. Then I moved further east and the drive coupled with German Village parking I stopped going regularly. That was stupid on my part. I scheduled an online appointment today (check out their website). Over the years, Niko been consistent and does a good job every single time he's cut my hair. Today though, he went above and beyond. The word of the day: gratitude. I'm always happy with my cut, but today, I was just happy. Like many businesses, COVID really left a huge impact, and while it did impact Niko, he had a lot to grateful for- and hearing that reminded me to think about what I am grateful for. Recently moved from Pennsylvania and found Niko's shop on google and yelp. Just coming back from my first hair cut with Niko himself. The atmosphere and conversation were great. It looked busy on a Saturday morning with 6 people ahead of me but they had 5 barbers going and my wait was minimal. Niko did a fantastic job and made suggestions on what to do with my hair as well. Everyone else who came out looked pretty fresh with their cuts too. I'll be coming back here for all of my haircuts. You will see some negative reviews because there is no sign in sheet but people walk-in and go when it is their turn unless they are waiting for someone in particular and the system seems to work out quite well. It looks like appointments are getting in (I assume this is the case, but not sure) no one bothers telling you if they are booked or not so you may well wait for 4 hours sitting there watching people who just got in pass ahead of you. I've been here multiple times now with niko, extremely personable guy with a really cool story behind his shop. I have a difficult texture to my hair and he cut it with no issues at all... and the cut turned out even better than the photo I showed him. Disappointed when in for a cut I guess they just want to get you through as soon as possible. Cut it way shorter then I wanted and when I said something they oh well. There are plenty of other places downtown to overpay for a simple haircut which isn't that good anyway. Really bad experience here. These people are not polite. Apparently the high tech concept of "take a number" and "wait your turn" has not reached the management of Niko's. I sat forever waiting my turn on a mildly busy day. Barbers were taking their (apparent) friends out of order and making several of us wait. When I complained, I was treated rudely. I walked out won't be back. read more

I stopped in for a shave before a photo session and really enjoyed my relaxing noon retreat. The shave is expensive, but it takes about 40 minutes. Multiple hot towel treatments, tonics, etc., are applied, and I left feel refreshed and relaxed. And clean shaven. Love the bulldog that wanders around the middle of the shop and the generally dude-centric feel. The only con is that it's hard to get an appointment. read more

I was in search of a barber after returning to Columbus and Niko's was recommended to me by a friend, and I saw great reviews here on Yelp. So, I decided to give it a shot. Man, I am wishing I wouldn't have. I was on a tight schedule and so I called ahead to schedule an appointment with Niko. Both individuals I spoke with on the phone sounded like they were completely inconvenienced by having to talk with me on the phone--very, very short and frankly, rude. But, it's a busy shop, I get it. Stopping a haircut to answer the phone is annoying, so I decided to let it go and come in for a haircut anyways. I showed up 10 minutes before my appointment and waited 15 minutes after my appointment. During that time, no one said a word to me--not a single "do you have an appointment?" "Can I help you?" All the while, I sat for 25 minutes before giving up and walking out. Never received a call about my appointment. So, if your requirements for a barber are rude and not at all respectful of your time, you've found the right place. Otherwise, go somewhere else. I sure am. read more

Let me start by saying I didn't grow up in barbershops. Rather my mother would buzz my hair on the back porch and I then progressed to Mastercuts in my teen years to get a simple fade. After moving to the South Side in 2013, my realtor had mentioned a good barbershop in the area called Niko's. So I decided to head over one day and check it out. As soon as I walked through the door I was greeted by the owner, Niko, and told I could have a seat in his chair immediately. I told him I wanted to try something new like a side part with the part cut in with a razor. We briefly talked about the length I wanted and how I would wear it before he began clipping. I had always went to the big chain discount salons like Mastercuts and Great Clips before Niko's. It usually took the stylists there about 10-15 min to finish a haircut. And when I went home I was always disappointed and would tell myself it'd look better in a few days. At Niko's, they take their time and get the cut right every time. Never have I left and been disappointed. The atmosphere is great as well. A lone tv on the wall usually playing Sportscenter. Hip hop beats that aren't found on the local radio from years past pumping out of the house speakers. There's even an old school Nintendo with a respectable library of the classic titles if you choose to partake. And the conversation topics floating around the shop range from music to sports and life in general. This is not a pretentious "boys club" type of place. I started to going here after I could no longer get an appointment at Old Familiar with less than 3 weeks notice. I was pleasantly surprised by the overall experience. Niko does a great cut. Prices are very reasonable. I've only had a long wait (45min) once, but I went at 5:15 PM on a Thursday, which is a prime haircut time. I'll definitely keep going back. read more

The best cut I've ever had. I didn't catch my barbers name, but he was all the way in the back on the right. After a few questions he knew exactly what I wanted. I will say I was a little intimidated when I went in because it was packed, but with 5 barbers humming they were knocking out the walk-ins. A few folks had appointments or were waiting on a specific barber and had been waiting there for a while. I walked in, sat down, and got a seat after about 20 minutes. The cut took about 30 but I've never experienced a barber who was so detail oriented. I'm not going anywhere else, and I'm recommending this place to everyone. One suggestion I would have is make it a little more easy to figure out what to do for first timers, and make it easier to schedule with a certain barber if you know you want to go to them. read more

I am Pissed off with there service, my barber( Tall, bald head with beard, looks handsome) but he is an asshole, he did cut my hair as if he is chopping grass, what an ass, no greetings for sure, very rude, no credit card system, my hair looks good but not great, no gel, no blow dryer, he won't even communicate with you, complete rip-off..... I gave him 4$ tip apart from 25$ hair cut, he is like whatever...F****** I am not conveying barber to please everyone who walks in, but minimal respect should be nice. read more

I just came back after a haircut at this place. The reason I went there were the yelp feedback. I had the worst haircut of my life here. I literally have no hair left on my head now. My hair was cut by a woman who has been working there since last four months. I went in for a traditional crew cut with little fades on the sides. I was not even asked what clipper number to use. And when I asked, I was told she is using number 2. I am no barber. But I do know what is the customer is new, barbers asks what clipper number to use. I was still hoping something good to come out, until I got a peek of the mirror. I literally went f**k. In the end I felt that rather than me paying them 20 bucks, they should have paid me for wasting my time and hairs. I am really very furious. You go to a barber for a good experience. The haircut I got here was worse than those done by super cuts or similar stylist shops. Niko might be a good barber. Not sure same is true for other barbers in the shop. I feel like kicking myself for going there. I could have done a single blade buzz cut myself and would have been happier. read more

As someone who has fond memories of going to the barber as a kid, this place is awesome! A great alternative to Super Cuts or Great Clips. The staff is always friendly and welcoming and there are drinks in a cooler if you get thirsty. The shop itself is very old fashioned, which I love. If I'm not mistaken, I think I remember reading the floor wood came from an old bowling alley and there's an old motorcycle in the window. The place itself is always busy and there is usually a wait depending on when you come in. This is the only reason I dock a star, I understand that there is no receptionist and that you can't stop a haircut to talk to someone who just walked in the door but there has to be something that can be done to make sure those who have appointments get their scheduled time in. As others have posted, there can be a wait depending on time of day and how many people are ahead of you but trust me when I say it's worth it. The attention to detail on the cut is superb and they really work with you to make sure you're getting what you want and what you need. I'd recommend this place to anyone. read more

Niko's is one of, if not THE the best barber shop in the downtown area IMHO. I moved over to Niko's after getting tired of appointments at Old Familiar. This is a walk-in shop (like it should be) and Niko makes sure to take care of everyone before bouncing at the end of the day. The new shop is awesome. The design is clean, and gives a nod to old school barber shops while still keeping everything fresh and youthful. Leather chairs, wood floors, and countertops made from refurbished bowling alley floors, what's not to like? Did I mention there's a wagon wheel coffee table and local art on the walls? The prices are straightforward and fair, though you have to pay in cash. (There's an ATM in the shop if you forget.) I plan to keep coming here for a good while, and so should you! read more

These guys accommodated a fairly last minute Groomsmen party with no hassle and provided a neat experience for everyone involved. The haircut and shave I received from here is thoroughly on point. The precision and time taken for every line is way better service than you would get from a chain place. Most importantly they have five people working so you don't wait like you do at other special barbers. For $30 bucks I got a cut, shave and eyebrow trim. Really impressed. I wanted to wait to leave my review until I'd been here a few times. I've now been to Niko's three times to get my hair did. Each time I've been in, I've had to wait, but the wait has always been reasonable for being a walk-in at a popular spot, 20-30 min. They are cash only! Each time, I've came out with a cut that I like, and I can be pretty picky. They certainly take their time and make sure you're happy with it before you leave. I've not really noticed any of the barber's being overly friendly/chatty, but certainly not rude either. I'm fine with this, but I know some people might prefer some friendly banter.
