Nina is a true professional piano instructor! My daughter, Janet, used to learn piano with another teacher. At that time, budget is one of the things I value more. I initially took my 5 year old to a piano class closer to home. The poor thing was so terrified by the old Russian lady who yelled at him and left the classroom crying. He never wanted to go to any piano classes anymore until I found Nina on yelp. I showed him the pictures and reviews online and he finally agreed to give it a try since Nina looked so sweet:) which later turns out to be true in person! My 6 yo twin boys have been going to Nina for about 4 months, since October 2017. I actually tried taking them to Nina in January of 2017, or something like that, but it was clear that they were not quite ready. Nina is great for my sons because she makes it clear that she expects a certain level of accomplishment week by week, but she still makes it fun for them. Between the two boys, one of them has a much shorter attention span, and I personally lose patience with him when I practice with him sometimes. During lesson, however, no matter how distracted he gets, Nina never loses her patience while still remaining firm. I can tell how much they love going to Nina because at home, sometimes I will threaten that if they do not behave they won't get to go to piano lesson again and it always works because they just both adore her and look forward to showing her what they have practiced over the week. My son started lessons with Nina since this May, I always think we are so lucky to have her mentoring him! We were referred by a well respected but retired piano artist Dingyi Cheng, actually she is one of his best students. My son has learned piano for a few months with another teacher when he was in China, he built some bad habit in gestures etc, on the other hand, he can not focus well at his age of five.
