They started out by gathering food and clothing to help people and today have grown into a large ministry helping thousands of people in the Naples community each year. Operating expenses are covered by their businesses and one hundred percent of public donations goes directly into helping those who need it the most. This ministry takes it's name from bible verse Matthew 25: 35-36, 40 "For I was hungry and you gave Me food; I was thirsty and you gave Me drink; I was a stranger and you took Me in; I was naked and you clothed Me; I was sick and you visited Me; I was in prison and you came to Me. Assuredly, I say to you, inasmuch as you did it to one of the least of these My brethren, you did it to Me." St Matthew's provides programs to help people transition from homelessness to self sufficiency. The Immokalee Friendship House provides shelter to the homeless and over 25,000 meals a year. Justin's Place Feeding Ministry has been serving meals to the hungry for 25 years and more than 20,000 meals are served each year. Wolfe Apartments offers transitional housing to male clients of the Justin's Place Recovery Program which helps men and women fight drug and alcohol abuse. Programs are funded by proceeds from the thrift stores located in Naples, Bonita Springs, Fort Myers, and Immokalee. You can support the worthy mission of helping people at St. Matthew's House by shopping their thrift stores. donating your furniture, hiring their catering company, and using their hand wash and detail center. I have previously visited their Naples location on Airport Road. This was my first visit to the Immokalee store where they sell some very nice furniture, household goods, clothing, and accessories. I found a 1930's Johnson's Bros. Old Britain Castles tea pot for $5. It's currently selling for around $100 on Ebay. I love it and use it every day for a cuppa when I get home from work. I also picked up a candle holder. I love supporting charities like this where you know that your donations are really going to help people. I just wish I lived closer to this store.

First of all, it is…read morecurrently under construction (as of March 2026), so the parking lot is extremely limited with maybe 6 spots, so we parked at the strip mall across the street along with several other patrons. This isn't really a great idea as there is no crosswalk nearby, so proceed at your own risk. There are also signs designating the parking for the strip mall only. I hope their construction includes more parking! This store is jam packed with clothing, books, houseware items, decor, and more. It was super busy when we visited, so everywhere we turned we were in the way or running into people. It was pretty chaotic but I think they must be expanding since it seems very popular. You can find some high-end items here (according to my parents) so if you're on a hunt for something specific you might have fun looking. I didn't really have anything in mind to look for, but I did end up buying an Athleta tank top for yoga, which was only $10 (they retail for $40-$50). Nate got a Columbia shirt for $10 as well. They have a few changing rooms to try things on, and plenty of employees (volunteers?) helping. Checking out was easy and I was able to pay with a credit card. I don't think I need to stop in every time I'm in town, but I would be curious to visit once their construction is done.

We don't have Goodwill stores like this in New England. I walked away with some brand new earring for only a few dollars. I was looking for large white hoops. Score! On top of the great staging, it was clean. Then to top it off, they were selling snack in the checkout line. This is top notch Goodwilling!

The items were then given to the people who worked on them or were resold. Goodwill's philosophy is "a hand up, not a hand out". Today Goodwill has become a $5 billion nonprofit organization that provides job training, employment, and community programs for people who have disabilities that might prevent them from getting a job on their own. Approximately 25,000 people in Southwest Florida are served by Goodwill Southwest Florida thrift stores every year. I discovered this Goodwill in Egret Crossing on a recent thrifting trip to Naples. The store opened in May of 2021 and it still looks brand new. This Goodwill resembles a Home Goods more than a thrift store. There is so much to explore here starting with the Better Brands section of clothing, a boutique area where you can find name brand clothes. The store is filled with not only donated items but brand new items too. They have a ton of clothing for men, women, and children, accessories, furniture, home goods, toys, small appliances, books, and more, all at discounted prices. Everything is organized by type, color, and size so shopping is a breeze. This is easily the nicest Goodwill I have ever been in.

Donated items are given to individuals and families in the community in need and profits are distributed through the church charities. They have also partnered with 30 local Collier County charities including Neighborhood Health Clinic, Healthcare Network of SW Florida, Meals of Hope, Baby Basics, Echo, Dental Outreach, Grace Place, Literacy Volunteers, and Habitat for Humanity. I was pleasantly surprised to see the store was much larger than I thought it would be from the outside. Several rooms are filled with gently used furniture, a ladies boutique with name brand and designer clothing, accessories, men's clothes, children's clothes, jewelry, art, holiday decorations, books, and more. Prices were great and I loved the selection of like new merchandise. The volunteers were so friendly. Furniture prices are negotiable and they were having an additional sale on select items. Hours are rather limited, they are only open Monday, Wednesday, and Friday from 10-3 so it makes it difficult to shop here if you have to work more traditional 9 to 5 weekday work hours. In any case I am glad that I finally got to stop in and support the great work that they do for this community.
