Doordashed burgers from here late night since there weren't many restaurants open after 10:00pm here. The burgers were pretty good and topped with a lot of caramelized onions. We also ordered a side of french fries. They were a bit soggy and bottom of the barrel fries but I'm assuming it's because it got delivered and it was late at night. Came for the karaoke Friday and Saturday. KJ is excellent, keeps in between music lively and fun. Great sound system, lots of good singers, some not so, but all applaud anyhow! All good fun. That is until the drunk group comes in and are obnoxious, rude and ruin the nice vibe. That is when we leave. It's too bad that this seems to be a regular thing. Will definitely be back, but hoping something will be done about checking at the door turning away extremely drunk groups. Gord and I had a late lunch today at La Ninkasi du Faubourg ... we were walking up rue St.-Jean and it looked cute. The food menu isn't very extensive ... wings, pizza, French fries and nachos. We both ordered wings and a beer. When they came, they were spicy ... too spicy for Gord. They were okay, nothing special. .. baked with Franks Red Hot Sauce for dipping if you wanted them spicier. Overall I really like this place though I'm not completely sure why. The very limited food options are highly average at most. They do have my favorite québécois beers at the right price as well as some other solid options. The space is quite nice and very very large. You can choose to sit on one of two patios, the second I didn't discover until late at night which wraps above the side of the building overlooking a lively ruelle. The daytime life here is relaxed and chill. The evenings have nice vibe but are still a bit relaxed. This is a great place to take a group of friends of any size to meet up early and game-plan the day/night over drinks, or to stop in to end your night well. I'd check this spot out again on my next Québec trip. read more

An absolute beer haven for Unibroue geeks! Seriously, they had more Unibroue beers on draft than Unibroue's very-own restaurant in Chambly! My wife and I stayed within the walls of Quebec City for three nights but this was just a short walk outside the walls and well worth it! I thought we would only go here once and then try some other places but we ended up spending every night here! We never had any food. In fact, I don't even recall seeing a menu at night, nor people eating, but whatever... we were here for beer and beer they had! Keep in mind that there are different areas to visit inside Ninkasi. We often perched on a couch at the top of the stairs in the back and watched the Canadiens game on the wall. Downstairs was open and spacious for larger groups, but a couch was ample for us. There is also a staircase near the entrance that you can walk up that takes you directly to a smaller bar area upstairs. It feels more like a lively bar, which was fun for watching a bit of hockey, but I'd say the couch was our favorite area. Servers checked on us from time to time and we never had an issue getting a drink. I was concerned about the prices but they were perfectly acceptable for the beers we were getting. While there were some perfectly decent bars within the old city, they were often overpriced and lacked a great selection. Definitely make the trip out here if you're a Unibroue fan! read more

Alcohol and Karaoke? Sounds like a fun time. Unfortunately, nobody was singing during the time we got in, I guess still too early. At first, we sat down at a table downstairs and ordered a round of drinks from the cocktail waitress. Then our friend said the pool table area upstairs was empty. So we downed our drinks and paid for the table to migrate upstairs. Let me tell you, DAMN are their drinks STRONG here! My friend and I got a Kamikaze shot and gaaaaahd...it tasted like cleaning alcohol! It burned so bad. Normally, strong drinks are a good thing, but this...this was NOT good tasting at all. Luckily, we had better luck upstairs. Not only was the bar empty, but we had like the entire pool room to ourselves! Bar upstairs is CASH ONLY FYI! Good news, drinks are cheap! My friend and I went with the Sangria upstairs to be safe, and they serve it in a Pint glass! Yum! All that for only $9 too! Since we weren't sure how it would taste (thanks to the kamikaze downstairs), we asked if the bartender could split it into 2 glasses for us. She was glad to and still only charged us for one! It actually turned out good so we ended up getting a pint each for the 2nd round teehee. Upstairs also has a nice outdoor patio for smokers and you can also bring your drinks out up there. The home of many brews from Unibroue, this pub has a casual and relaxed atmosphere with a good mix of indie tunes of both French and English. We came on a quiet Christmas evening and enjoyed our craft beers while playing Pool and Foosball upstairs. The most memorable craft I tried there was Lune de Miel which is a honey amber ale. From the tap it's very easy drinking, floral and crisp with sweetness of honey. It's a little different from the bottle, not as clean tasting. Also try Maudite if you want something more robust. We ended up here twice during our 4 day stay in Quebec. The first time because it was across from the place we had a late dinner after arriving. The second because we were wandering around, wanting to have a drink and there were no other just bars (not restaurant bars) open on St. Jean. On both occasions we had a good time. There was lots of karaoke going on. Some good singers. Some not. But everyone claps and is supportive. We are from the states and the karaoke DJ made us feel very welcome and encouraged us to sing. Great little bar with karaoke. Bartender with the mustache was very friendly, and so were all the patrons. Made a bunch of new friends from all over. I'm American, and it was very obvious; however I didn't feel like I was treated differently. They did say they only take cash, but I didn't see if anyone else used card or not. Not sure if I was being "taken advantage of," but the ATM's fee is only like $1.25 anyway. The panini dinde chutney was delicious. The charcuterie was good. Really liked the pita bread and the fish thing. Not a fan of pickles or the onion thing. Probably wouldn't get the charcuterie again. Their version of a kamikaze shot is strong and pretty good. The wine (Le Batonnier) was enjoyable. Nice selection of local liquor and beers along with some beers from around the world. Apparently there's karaoke every night. Keep that in mind. One of the better local beer options on this touristy strip. Trou du Diable and Unibroue stuff on tap plus some rotating special guests. There are 3 or 4 high tops outside on the street which are perfect for a sunny pint and people watching. The inside has two floors, just a black box really, with a stage hosting some improv, some good bands, some not so good depending on who's rented the space that night I guess. But head upstairs and around the corner and you'll discover a lovely leafy tucked away terrasse with more room for friends. Definitely worth checking out, and not visible from the street so not so touristy. The staff each time I came here was kind and helpful with varying degrees of actually knowing anything about the beer they were serving. Still, I liked them a lot and voluntarily spent several different afternoons here reading or writing or chatting over a delicious local Quebec beer. read more

We stumbled across this pub because of there outdoor billboard advertising pints for $3.50,so we wandered in.My wife was hungry but has food allergies and was told that she could have nothing on the menu.So the waitress offered my wife a substitute of couscous salad which worked out fine for her.We sat on the 2nd floor patio which was great sheltered by awnings.We were so impressed by the price of the pints we went back the next day.The $3.50 price is in effect until 4pm then it changes to $4.75.Again a place that is worth checking out. read more

This place has such an awesome reputation in the city that I couldn't wait to check this place out. It's not a karaoke bar per say, but they do offer a karaoke night on Saturdays, and are well equipped to do so, considering all the live shows they have going on. The sign on the door says Karaoke starts at 10 P.M. Since it's currently 9:20 P.M., we manage to get a great seat with a fantastic view of the stage where people would be singing. We are immediately greeted by an attractive blonde woman with a voluptuous ponytail, and are asked what we'd like to drink. Most of us already knew what we wanted, so we placed our orders, which came out moments later, along with the bill. The server stood around, expectantly. We all started to pull out our cards, but the action was cut short when she stated, quite abruptly: "cash only". We looked around at each other, then around the room, looking for some way we could have possibly known about this beforehand for this woman to be treating us so impatiently. The server rolls her eyes. "There's an ATM upstairs." And then she was off to the next table. My sister decided to get this round, so she heads upstairs to get out some cash. The server returns shortly thereafter. "So, who's paying?" "My sister left literally a second ago to get cash. She'll be back in a bit." She sighs, quite dramatically might I add, before buzzing off to another table. And then she's back again, just as my sister is coming down the stairs. "I'm getting this round" she announces. The server does some quick and pretty impressive mental math to tally up all the bills, and my sister gives her two brand new twenty dollar bills. The server giver her exact change, but doesn't leave the table. "You owe me 15% for the tip, so that's about five dollars." We all look at her like she's nuts. We don't automatically owe her a tip, and her service was definitely not stellar. Timely, yes, but not conducive to a positive experience at this establishment. My sister quietly gives her a five dollar bill, just to get her out of our face, and we never saw her again for the rest of the night. I tried to put this off-putting experience to the back of my mind, because it was almost time for karaoke. Only, at 10 P.M. they hadn't even cleared the stage from the previous show of live music. Instruments littered the stage. There was no music. Around 10:15 P.M. there was still no sign of a karaoke night starting, but patrons were piling in like ants at a picnic. My mom had gone out for a smoke and my youngest sibling had gone to the bathroom, so their chairs were lacking people. Apparently, this was a sign that we did not need the chairs or our tables, as people were trying to take them left and right, despite the fact that their things were still very clearly on them. In this establishment, if anyone leaves at any point, guard those chairs with your life, because they will get taken. The atmosphere was far from festive, despite the fact that a bachelorette party had just walked in, but I still had hope the karaoke would be fun. At 10:40 P.M., I check the stage to see if they've made any progress on getting karaoke night started, only to see that there's a guy singing on stage. We couldn't hear him at all! The words to the song were projected throughout the room, but neither the music nor the singer could be heard from where we were seated... and we were in the center of the room. There was a small group standing by the stage swaying to the music, but the rest of the room was filled with the loud conversations of young people enjoying each others' company. This isn't necessarily a bad thing, but it certainly isn't the karaoke night I was expecting. I asked the male server who happened to walk by if we could have a round of water for the table. He came back with a single glass. I decide to give the karaoke a try. I'm here, I might as well. I make my way to the front of the room to give my name, only to discover that I'm up next. I mentally prepare myself to go on, only to have the guy call out someone else's name. I check the list, my name is at the top. I ask him why I'm not going on, and he tells me: "we're trying this new thing called alternating." WHAT? WHAT? ALTERNATING WHAT? He didn't clarify, and I was officially fed up with the place. I head back to my table to tell everyone that we're getting out of here. As I get my coat on, it becomes apparent that the person I had been "alternated" with didn't show up, and the guy called my name. My mother excitedly exclaims: "That's you, you're on!" My response? F*ck them. Bad service, a cutthroat atmosphere, horrible acoustics (or just really low mic volume), and ALTERNATING (whatever that even means)? Nope. Karaoke, true karaoke, is not the aim of this particular bar. "Karaoke Night" is a catchy title to get people's attention much more than it is people living out their fantasies of singing their hearts out in front of a crowd. Don't go here if you're American. They try to take American money at par, telling you that it costs them to exchange it at their bank. They "supposedly" don't take credit, which they do downstairs... They just try to take advantage of you. I had to go to the currency exchange and go back to pay. Very bad experience, won't be back again. read more

The place is very simple and welcoming. On the 2nd floor, your can see local art (on your way to the restrooms) and you can seat on the terace. The personnel is very welcoming. The food is nothing special but way good enough for that type of place.
