They have genuine American style hot wings. The servers were friendly, and fast. I recommend the Ward's Hot Wings.

Visiting London from California, I was missing the food back home. So I searched wings on good reliable yelp. and this place came out within the results. What even drew me to the place was on Tuesday & Wednesday they have ALL YOU CAN EAT WINGS. so I was like I'm going. When I got there no one greeted me and my party. So we self seated waited about 5 minutes and no one had came to our table I got up looking for a menu. It's really dark in there. But the food was good. Nothing special. read more

Perfect blend of sexy and a pirate's ship. It's relaxed and offers a lot of craft beers (mostly IPAs, APAs, and Sours). Also, if you get the right server, they can make you mocktails. On the same night I had some server state that they did not make virgin cocktails while another happily whipped them up. The interesting thing to me is that on Tuesdays and Wednesdays they have all you can eat chicken wings in buffalo sauce and BBQ. The buffalo sauce is pretty good. I'd pass on the BBQ. Great place to hang out in a group, especially if you reserve a large table for the night. read more

This american style diner is right around the corner from my office, so convenient for lunch or grabbing a drink and light snacks after work. Decor is fantastic. It's a little dark, but you still get people doing..seriously...work in there with their MacBooks and files of notes. Very rustic. There is a wealth of drink according to the website and the blackboard, but annoyingly no drinks menus at all on the tables. So you have to get to the bar or ask the few staff in the venue what drinks are available. Food is a bit average, but it's good value and you're served a lot of it, so in my book, that cancels out the quality thing :). I love the fried olives, which may be an acquired taste due to the slightly fish anchovy taste (I love anchovies and anchovy pizza!). The fried chicken is excellent. Lots of breadcrumb which is what you're looking for in fried chicken, and if anything could do with more salt, so arguably it's healthy fried chicken! Come on a monday and all burgers are £5, on Tuesday it's bottomless wings for £10, which I must come back for. It might sound like the place is a mixed bag, but the food, value and deals make it a winner. Service could be improved, like staff stopping by tables more often so you don't have to order at the bar, but given the prices it's understandable. read more

I'm surprised The Ninth Ward has not received much recognition seeing how popular and in trend American foods are these days and people will die for a good burger. Unlike most American burger joints in London, The Ninth ward specialises in Louisiana's food. Being owned by the Church Group it's the first time they ventured out of New York and opened up their first eatery in London. I thought that fact alone will have people rushing in to fill up this new bar concept. But if it wasn't for my friend Jing who introduced me to this place it would still have been kept a secret from me. Sadly over many changes of their menu a lot of their Louisiana's dishes have been taken off the menu such as the Jambalaya and only one dish left that makes coming here worthwhile and there's for their chocolate burger. The rest of their dishes lack any enthusiasm and attention to detail. More set like a bar than a restaurant the place is beautiful. It is decorated like a rustic old factory using reclaimed wood as floorboards and only enough light to light your table and the bar area, creating a very dark and mysterious feel to it. Nawlins fried olives Very unique and interesting flavours of olives being stuffed with anchovies and then deep fried. Sharp tasting, very moreish with the herby vinegary dip but that's all before the salt kicks in. Okra fries Sounds new and exciting but tasted more of batter than anything else until it starts to feel stringy and then you actually feel the okra. To be fair the batter was very well done, being very light, so light in fact that the okra kept slipping out. Braised beef brisket burger with added blue cheese. The beef brisket was a bit tough at times but still chewable with a little effort. It helped that they were juicy being braised in some nice savoury sauce. The patty was also surprisingly good! Pink inside and packed full of moisture. Everything was quite one noted though at this point. I was so glad I got it with blue cheese as that was what added depth and a contrast in flavour making it more of an interesting burger. Chocolate bacon burger Best dish of the night. We're not talking about the synthetic overly sickly sugary chocolate here but real dark thick chocolate that taste of real chocolate with a high percentage of cocoa. Have that against the salty bacon and juicy burger is the ultimate combination and balance in flavour. If you can do with maple syrup on bacon then why not stepped up to the next game and have chocolate instead. It was incredible just to taste something so delicious and so new. No regrets! Ward hot wings These were so overcooked they became dense and tough. The meat was pretty tasteless with all the flavours coming from the overpowering generic tasting buffalo sauce. I'm guessing they parboiled the chicken first or used a low grade of chicken. It was sadly left unfinished. Fried chicken. They were okay. The coating of batter was way too thick and crunchy which overtook the texture and moisture away from the tender chicken inside. The batter itself could have done with some seasoning but instead I found myself relying on the addictive spicy garlic dip that it came with. Do you want dip with your chicken or chicken with your dip? I think it was more the latter. Onion rings These were pretty fine. The batter was light and airy and seasoned nicely. Salted squid and dip As so many things became a let down this dish became a better dish to have and finished within minutes of arriving. They were pretty good to eat on its own. The batter was incredibly light, enough to add some crispness against the soft squid. The chilli garlic dip was so moreish I dipped everything in it. Sweet potatoes fries These were average, although sweet and seasoned, were a bit too limp. House Fries These needed more seasoning and were also limp. Without that crispy exterior they became stodgy. Luckily they weren't too awful that ketchup and mayonnaise couldn't save them. I was greatly disappointed with The Ninth Ward in relations to food and service. Food was uninspiring, lacking enthusiasm and dishes that are more unique to their cuisine. If it wasn't for they're one unique chocolate bacon burger that is alone worth coming for then it might as well just be a bar. The rest of their burgers aren't bad though if you are feeling peckish. Service was slow and somewhat unwelcoming. We came in to an empty place which did ruin the atmosphere a little but to make it worse there were no signs of greeting or acknowledgment. Food was slow to arrive too. With such a beautiful venue, great initial concept for food why waste such a fantastic opportunity to strive to be London's best southern American diner? Sadly I'm giving this place two stars for now. read more

Well, what do we have here? I love it when you stumble across a bar and it ends up being great! It was a Saturday, and as many of us know, The City of London is pretty much dead and the majority of bars are such over the weekend. We'd intended to go elsewhere but it was shut and we ended up in Ninth Ward. It's a dark, almost dive bar-esque venue which is deceivingly large. One warning, if you don't like incense I wouldn't recommend as it's very heavily used here but it really does smell heavenly in there. They have a great happy hour: 3-7pm - 2 cocktails for £10 and £3.50 for a glass of good prosecco. We opted for Holy (something) cocktail which was vodka, cranberry, tropical red bull and lime. It was DELICIOUS. I am a fussy drinker but I loved this cocktail - re-freshing with a subtle fizz and very drinkable. Luckily for me, this bar is just down the road from my office - hello new work local! read more

I haven't eaten here but is a great place open until 3am for drinks every day apart from a Monday. A really nice bar all round - nicely set up with loads of tables and different rooms/areas. We went there late on long after they'd stopped serving food but the barman told us about a few places we could get food nearby then drew a map on the back of the receipt for us to find. Nice music too - country/folk kind of thing when we were there. All very chilled and friendly. Could sit and drink there until the early hours. read more

Went on a Monday around 5pm. I was one of 4 people in there. Was hoping to experience some New Orleans food since that's where the name Ninth Ward comes from. Since I'm in London my expectation on being authentic weren't that high But they even failed my low expectations. Had terrible service and terrible food. I got the fried chicken and it came as nuggets that looked more like slices of fried fish. This is not how you do fried chicken and if so it should state that on the menu. (Drinks only) Went here on a Thursday night around 1am. It was surprisingly crowded but the bartenders were on top of their game and very friendly. The interior is beautiful, mostly wooden, had a homey but distinguished ambiance. I had the cider on tap, which was delicious. Pints were generally £5-7 which seems pretty standard. The music was super fun, mostly American pop punk tunes from the 2000s. I will certainly be coming back, maybe even for happy hour or for a meal! read more

Ninth Ward is a newly launched American themed restaurant in Clerkenwell offering casual American cuisine in a lively setting. A lot of thought went into the interior design with stain glass windows, old fashioned ceiling fans and furniture specially designed and imported from America to create one of a kind New Orleans experience in the City. The cocktails at Ninth Ward, sticks to New Orleans styles with classics such as the Hurricane and Mint Julep with an interesting twist, such as containing cognac in the mix. The cocktails here generally are top notch and can rival cocktail bars nearby. The place also offers a good selection of beer with some fine local British craft brews and American style pale ales. The food menu is pretty straight forward with some seafood and pickle starters and mains such as burger, steak and chicken. Special on the day was the half lobster and it tasted refined and cooked to the right level, the meat was very sweet and moist and it worked so well with the punchy and yet settled spiced yoghurt sauce. The house special whole chicken was a rather interesting concept, instead of serving a whole bird, it came in 5 difference formats: fried, wings, sliders, gumbo and roasted. The clear winner was the buttermilk fried chicken, it had a crispy light batter and very tender meat. The sliders were very pleasant with finely seasoned chopped up chicken breast and legs in a very mild spicy dressing. Overall it was a great evening at Ninth Ward, solid cocktails and humble American food at a very affordable price. Clerkenwell is lacking a solid American restaurant and Ninth Ward fits in that missing gap wonderfully so it was no wonder why it was so popular on the day I was visiting, it was extremely busy, buzzing with both locals and workers.
