Hey all - so typically this isn't something I'd share but I consider this a public service announcement as it could happen to anybody. After a particularly grueling flight, I took BART home from SFO. Typically, I don't sit, much less put my bag on the seat and fall asleep, but I did this time, I was just way too tired. A few weeks later I noticed an incredibly itchy scalp. My fear was confirmed by what I saw on my pillow. Lice. As a grown-up. My first intuition was to just burn everything and shave my head bald but once reasoning and common sense kicked back in, I went on Yelp and found an organic solution, NitNurses(I'm hyper-sensitive to chemicals). They were also running a 40% off offer so I went with it. As embarrassing as it is for an adult, they were very friendly, understanding and professional and made me feel comfortable. My daughter picked up lice at school. Her cute wavy locks on that little face where suddenly holding one of my biggest fears as a Mom. Lice! My two boys had never had it, and as a kid, I got it once, and my memories of my Mom and the RID she used with the little comb and me crying- I was not prepared and trying not to freak out! I googled and was at a loss at what to do and where to go. I appreciated finding someone who would come to us. AVA was AMAZING!! She was instantly likable, professional, and the first few moments she set foot in our house, we all felt - "ok, we are gonna be ok!" My daughter was very nervous, but she loved her, as did my 9 yr old son and my teenage son, all chatting away with her and laughing, as she checked the whole family. She was very thorough and gentle and super professional. This situation seriously started out as a damn nightmare for us, but we became educated and learned this is very common, we didn't do anything wrong, and it is a problem we can try and avoid in the future with some attention and care from the tips Ava gave us, but feeling like if it does happen again-we know who to call to help! While we hope to never get lice again- we all felt we made a friend in Ava and she will be the FIRST person I will recommend to friends and family, and the relief she has left us with has been totally worth the money spent!!! Service was not good. From my experience this establishment is run down place in SOMA. Maybe the mobile service is better but I would be weary. I was hoping for excellent service given the price but was left disappointed. Do not come here. The salon is not a good or safe environment to have children around while being treated. Update: My review is authentic. Owner has been posting or having people post fake reviews. It is a shame a business in this line of work would be grossly misleading. read more

Safiya was amazing. My kids just adored her, and the time she spent removing their lice was super fun. We had her come back for a precautionary re-check after 6 days, as recommended, and the kids were so excited to have her back! Having this done in your own home is really comfortable and convenient, and she was also very helpful in helping us think through how to clean our house of any lice. We were out of town during the time recommended to do the recheck, so Ava gave us comb out instructions, and said she'd be willing to answer any questions we had, even offering to video chat while we did the comb out. When it came time to do the recheck myself, Ava responded promptly to all texts I sent. She taught me so well that I now feel confidant that I can do a comb out like her (not quite as well and not nearly as fast, but still). She is an amazing conversationalist and lovely person. Nitnurses are definitely my Hero!!! I discovered lice in my daughter's hair late last night and I was mortified! I called Nitnurses Organics first thing the following morning and they answered! Ava was amazing! She was so supportive and helpful. Despite my overall craziness with handling the situation, she was understanding and patience with me. What a lifesaver! I saw something in my daughter's hair right before bed last night and was frantically calling around and trying to find a lice service that was open to do an inspection.
