After receiving a notice from school about a lice outbreak, I didn't think too much of it at first until my head started itching. I didn't find any bugs in my own hair initially, but I did find eggs, so I immediately treated it at home. The next morning, I found a bug in my son's hair and treated him as well. To be extra safe, especially since I have long hair, I decided to come here -- and I'm so glad I did. Cloe was absolutely amazing. She made me feel comfortable and gave me so much peace of mind during a situation that honestly had me freaking out. Once there was an outbreak at our site, I was recommended this place instantly and I am glad I came! An excellent spot for customer care and professionalism! I could not have asked for a better experience from Liz. I had a scare so I went in without an appointment. Luckily, she was able to accommodate me so kindly. Although I didn't have an appointment, she was not put offish or rude. She told me to sit down and relax for 15-20 minutes while she tended to another appointment. I just wanted to say how awesome this service is. We got word that a person we stayed with had children that had gotten lice. I put in a request on Sunday evening and they promptly called me right back on Monday before they opened. They got myself and my two teenagers in and took care of us that afternoon. Nitpixies in San Rafael lifted the biggest weight off my shoulders! Coming here to get our heads checked and our daughters' treatment made the whole process of lice so much easier. The staff have been incredibly friendly and helpful, showing us how to find lice and eggs and what we can do to prevent further issues. Our technician, today Daisy, was so patient with my youngest (age 4), who doesn't like people touching her hair. My oldest has very long, thick hair and Daisy worked with her to get her through the treatment. I cannot recommend Nitpixies enough. My kindergartner got lice at school a couple weeks ago. We all had it from letting my daughter sleep in our room. The kids brought home lice and we figured we could handle it- did the whole RID thing and bagging stuffed toys, pillows, everything and washing ALL the sheets EVERY day... it was a total nightmare... and two weeks later? Raging lice infestation. One trip to Nitpixies & they were picked clean and the deal was done. Yes, as another reviewer said, it can get pricey. I got lice from one of the kids I teach.. yeah, kids are snuggly and cute and all that and I love it when they wanna sit in my lap but, JEEZ!!! I think I need to walk around in a pillsbury doughboy costume when lice is going around at the schools. One of the kids I teach stayed home from school a few weeks ago after being quarantined by the school. I imagined him stuck in a cell like Guantanamo being zapped with tea tree oil lazers and shit. Anyhow, I've been checking my hair regularly since then and started itching about a week and a half ago and was hoping it was all psychosomatic but, NOOOOOOOO.. I got it. Oh.. the SHAME. It's like I had a one night stand and went home with something a little extra special.... AARRGGHHH. Nit pixies fit me in last minute and worked with my schedule. Staff is super friendly and accommodating. I paid for the comb through, the treatment and the lice comb, which I've been diligently combing through my serious long, thick locks for the past 4 or 5 days. I combed my own hair out the night before I got the treatment and got rid of most of the live ones (they were still super microscopic at the time). I actually combed my hair out the next morning after the treatment and found over 7 nits, maybe 3 or 4 the next day, 2 yesterday, 4 or 5 today (I combed my hair out twice today. The lady who combed me out didn't spend that much time doing it, and did it when my hair was dry, which I think is the general way they do things there. With a full head of hair, it's super important to do a THOROUGH comb through on your own if they just kind buzz through that process. Otherwise, those little suckers will hatch and you'll have another infestation. I know Lice is a process but, I think for the money I spent they should have at least combed my hair out more thoroughly or offered an additional comb out, as human error accounts for a lot of the additional nits that are still on my head. read more

The staff are incredibly gentle with children and not condescending to parents about lice. They provide complete de-lousing service with a head check, then a thorough manual removal both with a special comb and then basically strand by strand; followed up with a hair solution. A second treatment is also recommended. It can get pricey but they work with non-toxic solutions unlike Rid or Nix. I highly recommend them.. my daughter's case was gone in 4 days after we brought her here and we followed with thorough home treatment. read more

They have a nice waiting area where the kids have toys to play with as well. This place gets particulary busy in the beginning of the school year. I have super long, thick hair, and also a former hair dresser. My 5 year old brought lice home from school, and while I can comb through her hair section by section with the comb, and do the treatment, I cant do my own hair properly. I have seen lice before, but have never got it. Well, guess what, I got it this time. I made an appointment with Nit Pixies to have myself checked. Brianna was so helpful, and kind. She was thorough, informative and knowledgeble. She made me feel comfortable, and its nobody's fault a person get's lice. It only takes one interaction with the wrong person or lean your head on a movie seat, coat, kids backpacks, etc... Yes, it is pricey, but its not a fun job either, is it? I appreciated her work and professionalism. I did buy the comb to use in the future. So, far so good... I do agree one free check a week later would be a nice added bonus, and seem fitting to be included in the price. I don't think $25.00 for an initial check is at all unreasonable, and if you do the treatment its considered part of the $100.00 cost. For peace of mind.. I recommend. read more

My son and I had an appointment at Nit Pixies with Irma. She was not friendly, seemed annoyed and burdened by my questions, and at one point roughly snapped my son's head back into place and sternly told him not to move when he winced in pain from the comb through (he was a total trooper the entire time and did not express his discomfort at all except that ONE wince). Irma did not create a comfortable environment and made my son and I feel like a burden. We were only there for one hour and spent almost $300. The only reason I came to Nit Pixies was because I was referred by a friend who had a great experience (she did not see Irma). The lady who scheduled our appointment over the phone was super nice and helpful so I had high hopes. So, maybe this place is a hit or miss but I would never recommend it. Having lice is a nightmare as it is - having to deal with crappy customer service while spending hundreds of dollars to eradicate it makes it 100x worse. I did call today to speak to a manager and although she offered a free follow up head check she did not seem to care much about my experience. She didn't even ask my name or contact information but said that she would talk to Irma about the incident. I don't expect a follow up which all the more makes me weary of this establishment and their business practices. read more

These gals rock. They are efficient, thorough and well worth the $$. RID and Nix did not work for us. Nit Pixies did. Buy one of their lice combs, and you can keep the critters at bay on our own. My only complaint is that they aren't open on Saturdays and Sundays. read more

We went to the Oakland branch- the woman was great, seemed very thorough. She got a bunch of nits out of my daughters head that I had missed, as well as about 15 out of mine. The "treatment" is a natural tea tree oil blend that smells good (if potent). The only thing that keeps this from being a 5 star review is that they dont offer a free check-up a week later to make sure you are all clear. They offer a service but would not schedule an appointment at my convenience, even during posted business hours. The lady literally said, "we close early if we don't have any appointments." But I was calling to make one. I tried an alternate day which is within their posted hours of business: said "no, only if they have more than one." and I was scheduling 2...
