Look at all the other 1 star reviews for similar predatory prices. I have a simple shower valve replacement, the wall is already cut open in the room behind the shower. It's a matter of using wrenches to remove the old valve (4 pipes attached) and using wrenches and plumbers tape to put the new one on. Simple, but still not something I am confident enough to do myself (yet). Nixco sends a tech out, and quotes me over $1200. Let that sink in... $1200. No cutting, no drywall, should take maybe 30 minutes tops, unless some 'problem' is discovered. $1200 I think the tech knew as well, because as soon as I saw that, I chuckled and asked "What's involved in getting to that price?". He looked at the floor and quietly said "well, uh, that's just what the labor involved, uh..." I said, you can stop there, no thanks. I called Nixco just to half complain but also half give them a chance, like are you standing behind this quote? To which they gave me the typical "we'll pass it on to the service manager". I'm not using them again. I ran in to this kind of set up with Apollo. The quotes seem absurdly high, but also the tactics seem like that of old school used car salesmanship. He looks at the project, goes to his van for like 10 minutes, then comes back. He's likely calling in to someone that's guiding him on the price, and they are seeing what they can get away with. Or, and I'm just speculating here, the techs are getting some kind of commission on the overall price. There doesn't seem to be any drive to get the job done quick and efficient. I'm just scared for people that don't know any better that fall for this. I used Nixco on one other project, where the tech had to cut in to the wall, saw pipes, weld new pipes, and attach valves. So much more involved than this, and that job was under $900. he rationalized it to me that having to cut in to the drywall, cut/weld pipes, is more labor intensive and more complex, so I went with that. Compare to this job, which involves none of that, and it's $1200?! Don't use this company. ----- UPDATED ------ So, i'm responding to the response I got with the cost breakdown, and follow up from another local Cincinnati service below. "licensed and trained technicians": sure, goes in to the hourly rate, right? That's $400 per hour, correct? "quality materials designed for long-term reliability": what materials? Maybe a foot of copper and some solder? "proper installation methods (not temporary or shortcut fittings)": you charge extra for install things properly? what's a temporary install? duct tape? "warranty coverage": warranty on what? I bought the valve at another store, you're just installing it. if it's defective, that's not under your warranty is it? "insurance": sure, cost of doing business, but am i paying the whole monthly premium for this one job? "and the accountability of standing behind our work": Customers have to pay extra for this? How about, do a good job, and make people happy. If you made a mistake that requires follow up, do that, at no cost. Don't heavily pad the bill in case you make a mistake and have to fix it. FOLLOW UP on the project: I found Russell Plumbing Inc. (513-561-2804), and they were great. It wasn't an emergency, but they said it's a relatively small job, and could squeeze me in early. Came out about 830am the next day, done by around 1030am. $275. Nice people, didn't disappear in their truck for 20 minutes to work up a quote like a used-car salesman, got it installed, cleaned up, and moved on. Give them a call! beware! charged $175 to connect one hose to toilet, then days later my toilet was leaking and wobbling. they came back out and reseated toilet. a few days later sewage was dripping into room below. they came back and told me the flange was cut and a bolt was broken. how can this be? they just reseated the toilet days prior. all told, they charged me over $1000 for what should have been a no chargd job or a minimal charge for gas. after telling fhem off they agreed to refundd $500 although i havent seen it yet. there were zero problems with this toilet until they showed up! read more

I've had reasonable work done by Nixco in the past so I had no reason to not trust them when they recently installed two hot water heaters in my home. Then I got the bill - it was twice what I was expecting. I asked for a breakdown of the charges but they were unwilling to provide that so I looked up the cost of the exact water heaters they installed. I could purchase the exact same water heaters for $3500 combined and Nixco charged me over $8500 which means they charged me $5000 for labor for routine installation of two water heaters. That computes to over $500/hr for labor per person!!! I asked repeatedly for someone at Nixco to explain that to me but was told it is what it is.....and what it is is a huge rip off!!! Do your homework or these guys will overcharge you outrageously!!! read more

You think, wow that's seem really HIGH but you are here in my home and you want it fixed. I feel compelled to write a review so other homeowners are not taken advantage of as my family was. In the process of selling our home, we needed to have our showers adjusted to increase hot water. We were out of town and our realtor gave the plumber access to our home. We were given a quote that was a range, around $300....once the work was completed the plumber randomly had a bill of over $700. When pressed for what he did to complete the work, he simply took his screw driver and adjusted a valve. No parts were needed, and labor was approximately 15 minutes! When asked for an invoice and a breakdown, he refused to provide one and refused to leave my home. CROOKS. We negotiated the price down, after yelling and screaming, but I would avoid this company at all costs. read more

I am rather undecided about what to think about this service. I leave it to readers to form their own opinions. I booked a non-emergency service to replace the pressure reducing valve in the basement. The technician was very nice and professional. The work was done in one hour of work. The valve and a ball valve were replaced. Retail cost of materials on line $100-150. Total service cost of $1,140.75. I had to do the repair so I agreed to it, I don't dispute that. When I asked for an explanation of the hourly cost of this service, it was politely explained to me that the cost is not time dependent. About this, personally, I have some doubts. How much can be the hourly rate of a plumbing job ? 600-700 dollars per hour ? Again, I do not dispute the intervention and the repair works. It does seem a little expensive relative to the time spent, though. read more

I called to see how much it would cost to install a toilet and the operator told me they have to come out to give a quote $40. When the plumber got here, without even looking at it he told me $400. If the operator would have just told me that over the phone I wouldn't have made the service call. I guess it's just a quick way for them to make $40 read more

Called to get estimate on several plumbing projects. Tried to get a ball park estimate, but was told that someone would need to come out. Representative came out and briefly looked at project, saying that their pricing process is based on standard pricing for projects and not hourly rates. Which seems to me they could have given a ball park estimate over phone. Received quote and the pricing extremely high.'I already received additional quotes and the pricing no where near their pricing. $400.00 to replace a bathroom sink faucet. So the $40.00 service fee was a waste of money. By the way the other quote much cheaper, no service fee! read more

Never, never, never will I do business with this company again. They sold and installed a hot water heater 4 years ago. Last month, it died already. I called them and they said we'll come out and look at it for a small service fee (I think it was $39). They informed me on the phone that it may still be under warranty, and if so, they would replace it for just the cost of the install. I said great! They came out and told me good news, it's under warranty and all you have to do is pay for the installation. The tech said let me check availability and get the install price. He came back in and said I can get one tomorrow and the installation cost is $1,200!!! I told him that was a ridiculous price for installing a water heater. He shrugged his shoulders and said "don't shoot me, I'm just the messenger." So, that's how they stand behind selling me a defective water heater-try to screw me on the installation to replace the bad unit. I immediately called another company, Joe's Professional plumbing, who came out the next day, pulled the old water heater, got me a brand new one (warranty replacement) and installed it for $350. Called to replace an outdoor spigot. After cutting a hole in the drywall, he cut the copper pipe and replaced the spigot leaving a mess on the floor and the garbage from his work. According to the garbage he left the new spigot was about $50.00. Total cost of the job which took about one hour $450.00!!!! I called the office to complain about the charges and the work and never even got a call back from the manager. Wow do I feel stupid for hiring this company. Main sump pump failed and backup was not keeping up. We bailed for 2 1/2 hours until the plumber showed up. We had managed to keep the water out of the basement and our carpet was dry. When the plumber showed up we asked if he had a portable pump to get the level down further before installing the new pump. He said that wouldn't be necessary - that he would have the new pump installed before there was any problem. Ha! That didn't happen. By the time he was done, our carpet was soaked. We had to call in a restoration company, make an insurance claim and pay our deductible. We called Nixco and gave them the opportunity to make it right. Their answer: Sorry, not our fault! read more

This is an update to a previous rating. Nixco installed a gas line for us and we had some gas leak issues that came up. Nixco made good on their warrantee and fixed the issues with the work. They were honest and up front about the problem, and resolved it beyond what they had to do. They were very professional and apologetic. I wasn't happy that the issue came up, but was pleased with the end result. You can trust that if any issues come up with their work, Nixco will take care of them. read more

I had two repairs -- one was to fix a sewer leak next to the house and the other was to replace galvanized pipe in the basement because the pipe had a lot of buildup in it from years of use. Todd did the work. He was very pleasant and diligent. I am very pleased with his work and I highly recommend him. I unfortunately did not catch the name of the apprentice who helped Todd with the sewer repair work but the apprentice was also very pleasant and worked well with Todd. Was charged $250 for an hour's worth of work to attach the toilet bowl to the tank with some new bolts. They said this was "a discounted price" and that "$200/hour is the industry standard." My neurologist doesn't make that much an hour! Industry standard as I've since been told by other home owners is $65-$100/hour. If you can afford to spend $200/hour for very BASIC plumbing then go for it otherwise stay away -these guys will rip you off! read more

I had a service contract with Nixco so when the garbage disposall in my kitchen sink stopped working I called them in to fix it. Their guy came to the house, looked the situation over and said that there was nothing wrong with the garbage disposall. That it had to be a bad switch in the wall that turns it on and off. I said, "Okay, go ahead and fix it". He replied that they only did plumbing work and that I would need to call an electrician to replace the switch. He then charged me $90 just for looking at it. I will NEVER do business with Nixco ever again. read more

We had to have a water pressure regulator replaced just above our meter inside our home. I saw some good reviews for Nixco and decided to give them a try. As other reviews have stated, their service was excellent. Our tech's name was Todd. When he came in the door, I quickly explained to him exactly what was needed and he immediately confirmed this. His work was quick, clean, and thus far is holding up well. My disappointment in Nixco is the exorbitant, seemingly way-over-the-top cost of this repair. I purposefully watched the clock on Todd: from the time he began the actual repair to the time he finished it was no more than 30 minutes. That's fast! But the cost for this repair was a whopping $440. I asked him for a breakdown of parts and labor, but he said they do not price this way. The price quoted is a "job price". Well, I got online and saw that a water pressure regulator can be bought for no more than $100. If you throw in a couple of other parts he pro-actively replaced as well, the total parts cost should exceed no more than $150. Yet I was charged $880 an hour for this job. As a first time customer I was able to print off a $35 coupon, but that was little help in the face of such a large bill and I will not likely ever be a second time customer. Can you imagine the cost of a job that took an actual hour or more? No complaints at all with the excellent service of the tech but in total shock and distress over the ridiculous bill charged for this job. Will definitely be trying someone else the next time I need any plumbing repair. read more
